Pat

Welcome to the Hudson valley disc golf podcast. I'm Pat Keenan and I've been waiting patiently avoiding your Facebook posts for two weeks in order to get this story fresh for the first time right now. No pressure. Kenji, tell me about Louie. The lover.

Kenji

Oh, he's our new puppy. he's our new French bulldog. We just got him.

Pat

Do you have any other dogs?

Kenji

We had a dog that was 15 passed away in the fall.

Pat

Okay.

Kenji

So this is the new dog. My wife has wanted a French bulldog forever, so we finally bit the bullet and we drove down to Ryan's neighborhood.

Pat

Oh, wow.

Kenji

Down by Philadelphia, Pennsylvania, picked up the dog and, yeah, he's great. He's cute but he's a puppy going through potty training and don't chew this. Don't chew that. He's only nine weeks. He was born January 2nd, nine weeks.

Pat

How big do they get?

Kenji

They get like 20, 25 pounds.

Pat

Do you have any other pets?

Kenji

I have a cat. A Maine Coon. He's 20 pounds. He's huge

Pat

How old?

Kenji

Oh, Fuzz is ooh 11, 10-11

Pat

That's like adolescents for cats. Jaimen you got any pets?

Jaimen

No, not right now.

Pat

Jason?

Jasan

Yeah, a dog Sasha and like 30 chickens.

Pat

Nice. Mystery Guest, write it down. I'll read it out loud. If you have any pets.

Kenji

Type it, use the chat.

Pat

Maybe he's got a lot of pets. No pets. All right. Congratulations on your new edition.

Kenji

He's a very cute dog.

Pat

Jaimen your writing is a major topic for tonight. I don't know if you know that, so I'm just going to say, Hey how was your week?

Jaimen

My week was pretty good. Got a little disc golf in on Saturday. Which was awesome. And besides that, nothing too bad happened

Pat

Okay Jasan, sorry for the delay in getting your tags announced, but blame those guys. They never picked those holes. They never picked them It's Kenji's fault

Jasan

oh, okay.

Pat

well, I do have a Mine Kill question for you real quick. It's two events over two days, right?

Jasan

Correct.

Pat

That's just temporary. Is that permanent or is that something you're open to being permanent?

Jasan

Haven't fully committed to either. It has its advantages. I miss the old format of it being all weekend for 72 players being a destination tournament, playing all 4 layouts. There's a lot of cool stuff about that, but there's also a lot of advantages to splitting it up, especially for Jess and myself with two kids and being able to each play different day. But also we can accommodate a lot more people and with the boom in the sport right now, it seems like that's the thing to do until you figure out how to better serve the community.

Pat

Absolutely. just out of curiosity, what is the nearest course to there? Would you say?

Jasan

That's a good question.

Pat

I was just thinking if people wanted to go the weekend, they play Saturday, maybe on Sunday you still do the camping or whatever and on Sunday play a different course on the way back.

Kenji

J Parks not too far from there.

Jasan

Yeah. I think the closest course would be Hunter mountain or Tannersville

Jaimen

What about Burbine?

Jasan

Burbine's still pretty far.

Jaimen

Yeah. Everythings far

Kenji

The course I'm gonna put in will be close in Duanesburg

Jaimen

That would still be far

Kenji

I think it would still be J Park, right. Hunters closer than J Park?

Jasan

Yeah. Hunter is definitely closer than J Park. There's like a shortcut. You can go over the mountain to get there. But yeah, there's not a lot near Mine Kill

Pat

All right. I don't want to ask about your tag, cause that is a potential hole. But there was some movement this week in the top 10 Kenji could tell us about it. Cause I think he was on the card with them. But there may be more, cause I don't know if you know this Kenji, but there's four updates that need to be verified. Probably from the tournament today.

Kenji

Oh, I can look right now. I'll tell you I'll update it. How do you know?

Pat

It says it at the top. It says four.

Kenji

Oh, everybody gets to see that.

Pat

Just that part, yeah. You can't see what the matches are or anything. Trust me. I tried Kenji while you're doing that. Do you have any idea who the mystery guests might be?

Kenji

I have no idea who the Mystery Guest might be.

Pat

Just take a guess.

Kenji

Out of anybody,

Pat

Anybody in the world,

Kenji

Let's say it's... Adam Gutman, little WeDGe guy?

Pat

He's probably the only person who's been on more than you.

Kenji

Who's been on more than me. Jack. It's gotta be Jack.

Pat

All right, Mystery Guest say,"Hey!"

Andrew

Emerging from the green room. How's it going, Kenji.

Kenji

What's up Andrew, it's been so long, that's right.

Pat

I figured you needed a partner for any point related. And since he didn't pick you, you don't get any points. Now your partners but how you doing, how you been?

Andrew

Been doing good, man. Been doing good. I'm excited that the get some more daylight now I can get some more rounds in during the week.

Pat

Yeah. Cause you've always had that issue. Half the time you can't even do dubs. Cause you got to zip through.

Andrew

Yeah. Sometimes at dubs. It'll start at 4:30 and Aw man come on guys or I'll start at five or I'm like, wait for me on Hole 2 I'll be there in 20 minutes. But but yeah, I'm excited that it's warming up that the sun's coming out get some more rounds in for sure.

Pat

Heck Yeah, Why don't you start us off? Pick a hole.

Andrew

How about Hole 9?

Pat

What were you doing one year ago today?

Andrew

I remember, like I went home early and then I didn't go back to work for like maybe 15 days. And in that time, I started playing call of duty and all of the rest of the 15 days where like a blur, it was pretty much just go to the couch. And then like when you're tired, it's time to go to bed. I'm ashamed of myself

Kenji

I remember I was at work that Monday was the last day we worked and I remember somebody saying, Oh yeah, they're going to closing the state tomorrow. I'm like, wow. I heard the governor said it, wow. Then we were told to bring your laptops home. We might be working home for a little while. And yeah, I haven't spent a whole day in the office since.

Pat

Wow. Jaimen?

Jaimen

That Sunday I was freaking out about school because we knew that the next day we were going in as emergency planning, but we didn't know what was happening after that. At that time, everybody was like, Oh we're going to be out for two weeks this is going to be crazy. But the Saturday before the 14th, that was our last team challenge match. So we had a team from New Hampshire come to Albany, play us in team challenge. That was a disaster, cause I was trying to do CTPs and I could not figure out the J park Hole numbers. And I was like, freaking out,

Kenji

Oh, I remember that meltdown.

Jaimen

Yeah. Sorry. Kenji.

Pat

Let me help you, Jaimen.

Jaimen

Now knowing everything that was going on, it's definitely, I wasn't mad at the holes. I was just mad at everything that was going on and I couldn't handle it, figuring out the J Park hole numbers instead of doing lunch, because we knew what was going on. We didn't have lunch. So instead we, we did CTP's is for everybody, everybody from the disc captains donated CTPs rather than making lunch. And I couldn't figure out the Hole numbers and I was like freaking out about it. That's my story.

Pat

All right, Jasan,

Jasan

A year ago I was hiking Mine Kill with Jess and the kids.

Pat

All right.

Andrew

Good memory.

Jasan

I cheated. I looked back on my phone a year ago.

Pat

Jason what Hole?

Jasan

Since we started nine, let's go to 10.

Pat

Oh, we're sticking with the front nine. I'm sorry.

Jasan

Oh, alright, then we got to go to one.

Pat

All right. Hole one. That is a okay. New this new thing already. It's glitching on me. Let me try this one more time.

Noise

DisCap Tag Update DisCap Tag Update DisCap Tag Update

Kenji

I approved those matches

Pat

Oh good. I thought before we even did that, what tags do you have? I just, I thought we'd go around real quick. You don't even have to tell me the number. Just what clubs, like how many tags you got? Jasan, we'll start with you.

Jasan

This year. I think I just have DisCap.

Pat

Jaimen

Jaimen

Yeah. I just have DisCap. I just pulled last. Year's wedge tag out of my trunk, though. If that counts for anything.

Pat

Kenji,

Kenji

I have a lifetime NEFA, tag. I have a lifetime pro Hyzer tag, and I have a DisCap tag this year. And last year I had Stony kill and. I think somewhere else too, but right now, just again, DisCap Tag besides a lifetime.

Pat

Okay. And Andrew?

Andrew

Got my Beacon tag. I've got my Hudson Valley Disc Golf tag. I just got tag my Phatty tag Jay Phatt's tag. I've got my pro Hyzer tag and then I have a bunch of tags that are on my bag from like last year that I'm like, Oh yeah, it's not 2020.

Kenji

Yeah. I haven't taken those off yet either.

Andrew

Like the last round I played, someone was like, Hey, do you have a Wedge tag? I was like, yeah, I do. Then we got there and they were like, we were handing them out. I was like, Oh, this year's tag. Okay, cool. No, don't have that. I'm sorry. Man

Pat

All right. So we were doing a disc cap tag update. Let me pull it back up. Now that it's been approved. A little bit of movement. All right. So looks like number 10 stays the same. Dave Searle. Greg Kurtz drops from five to nine. Josh Weinstock Tyler Calzada Josh Winn they all stay the same, Jeremy Bledsoe. Now Kenji, you, are you on the same card with those guys?

Kenji

Yeah. Yeah. We played the new layout over at the new course by my house in New Scotland and we played to Buckets five gallon buckets that were really low. Like they, they put them in, they should have, put them higher, but it's just for play testing, so it doesn't really matter. But yeah, so muddy, sloppy tees, it was a very rough lines and object golf to five gallon buckets.

Pat

That's awesome.

Kenji

Jeremy's power forehand can do a stand and deliver better than Greg's backhand

Pat

Jaimen is still at fourth. Just just hording it. Is that what's going on?

Jaimen

I don't actually play disc golf anymore.

Pat

Just build courses? Number three, Tim Jiardini Joe Jaskolka with four rounds, the most played of anybody in the whatever numbers I can see with number two tag and Jason still with the number one you're going to hoard that thing to Mine Kill.

Jasan

Jaimen will probably take it at FDR, but.

Noise

And this has been your discount tag update.

Pat

All right, Kenji pick a Hole not one, not nine.

Kenji

Let's keep going in order, number 2.

Pat

Hole 2. I have a couple of questions on the PDGA. Kenji, should people in our area start playing their proper division. Do you think that would help things.

Kenji

Do you want me to play Rec? I'll play rec, Yeah, I think in the Northeast we tend to play up one division. I play AM2. I dunno. Rating is just bad right now. I think I play where I belong. I belong in AM2. I play advanced masters occasionally, but I do NEFA for points every year so, you get better NEFA points by playing AM2 then you do in AM Masters.

Pat

Should a PDGA membership be required to play in a PDGA tournament?

Kenji

No.

Pat

Anybody have any thoughts?

Andrew

Maybe the question is like, why not?

Pat

As an answer to the amount of people signing up.

Andrew

Yeah,

Kenji

No because then you get exclusive. We should be inclusive. Tournaments shouldn't offer all divisions that NEFA makes you offer.

Jaimen

Yeah. I wouldn't mind seeing the membership requirement brought down a tier. So I think for A- tiers you have to be a member or maybe it's just NT's but I wouldn't mind it.

Kenji

It's A-Tiers. You have to be a member for A-Tiers and up. I agree with that. The first step still doesn't require you, but just got a little bit of added cash on the B-Tier. And then if you want to get serious A-Tiers you gotta put them in a year ahead of time, and then you're required to be a certified official and a PDGA member

Andrew

I would like to think that money is going towards like the growth of the sport and the growth of the PDGA which has grown significantly, I think over the past year and maybe like more that would make it grow more.

Pat

Can anybody describe efficiently the difference between an A, B and C tier?

Kenji

The added cash and the percent paid out.

Jasan

Yeah and per player costs. And there's a chart of all different stuff, but the big ones added cash

Kenji

$750 for a B-Tier. And what is it? 1500 for an A-Tier?

Jasan

It's three grand.

Kenji

Is it a three grand now. Wow. Yeah.

Jaimen

Also the higher tier you go the more stringent the requirements are for different things. There's only certain baskets you can use for A-Tiers. That kind of thing.

Kenji

Yeah.

Jasan

Yeah. And also that how quickly you have to get the reports in, I think like a C tier, you got a couple of weeks, but A-Tier you got to have it in 48 hours, right? Yeah. It's quick. And if you have amateur tournaments, then it's the value that the AM's get compared to their entry fee. So I think it's 125% for B tier.

Kenji

Which is weird because that's like. Not a hundred net, not gross entry after all, whatever fees gets taken out.

Jasan

Yeah. And it's retail. So technically Mine Kill is the AM side has met all their criteria for A-Tier ever since I started it, I've kept it with the pro side because all I'd be doing is increasing the per player costs and it really wouldn't be benefiting anybody.

Kenji

No one here chasing world invites.

Jasan

Yeah. You're going to get a few more points to go to worlds or whatever, but

Pat

So, the benefit for having a C tier is just the ratings, right? Basically.

Kenji

The insurance.

Pat

And the insurance. Yes. Okay.

Kenji

Cheaper insurance.

Pat

Okay. I'm just trying to think, why would I want to do a B tier, like for the club? Why would a club just to draw more pros, more points. Okay. Yeah.

Kenji

You get the$750 that has to go to the pro

Andrew

Just like liability insurance

Kenji

Yeah, covers the event and all the players.

Andrew

Okay.

Kenji

And it's usually required by most municipalities. If you try and get it without the PDGA it's hundreds more.

Andrew

Wow. Okay.

Pat

All right. Jaimen did you pick a Hole yet?

Jaimen

I have not.

Pat

Why not try now?

Jaimen

Let's go to 8, Pat

Pat

Do. You use UDisc and if yes, do you put in more than just, your score

Jaimen

Oh you mean like a fairway off the fairway? That kind of stuff.

Pat

Yeah,

Jaimen

I do. I do that because I'm optimistically thinking someday, I'm going to look back at those in garner, some kind of information off of them. And I have not yet. So I shouldn't,

Pat

There's something to be said though, the idea of writing it down you'll you might remember it a little better, but does anybody else put any more than just the score?

Kenji

I have a once or twice. I haven't really got into keeping track of everything on there.

Jasan

If I'm confident I have enough battery on my phone. I'll go for it. That's usually the deciding factor.

Pat

That's a good point. Andrew. I know it was accusing and no, Andrew, I wanted to ask you because you used to keep track. You were just keeping score, right? You had a, like a score book.

Andrew

Yeah. I usually keep like pencil and paper kind of stuff. And my brother turned me on to UDisc. And at first I was like, no, man. I like to like the analog way. And then he like bought it for me. I was like, all right, I'll try it. And now I, I do all the stats, even when someone else on the card is keeping score. I'll keep my own just so I can get the stats.

Pat

Now, how much extra time does that add? Just putting in whatever stats..

Andrew

It's not too bad. Usually I can get it done on the way to the next hole or what am I like the next hole while other players are teeing off. It's it really doesn't take that much time. And to be honest, I'm not sure how accurate, like I grade myself sometimes I'll throw it in the Bush and be like I can see the basket. So like I'm in the fair way. Or I'm sure my circle two percentages, a little is a little loaded because I'm at, 26 feet. I'm like yeah this is circle 2. I'm far enough

Pat

Now, do you go back and look at all? unlike Jaimen

Andrew

I do there's like the tab that you can look at. Oh, your past five rounds or your past 30 rounds or what it was last year. And I guess my hope is that I can see like some sign of improvement in one of the stats. That would be nice. But mostly it just makes me like, frown.

Kenji

Can you go with and look by like course by hole and

Andrew

yeah. So I can pull up

Kenji

All your Hole 3's at beacon.

Andrew

Oh yeah. Yeah. I can just like click on beacon and it'll tell me how many times I've parred Hole 2 or, you know how many times I birdied hole 10,

Pat

they might blow up your phone

Andrew

A lot less than I would like.

Pat

Yeah. All right. Jaimen you said that you don't actually go back and look, but do you find, you still keep yourself doing it? It's just a habit at this point.

Jaimen

Yeah. I've always paced off my putts anyways, just so I know, generally where I am with my putting. I find that when I have really good putting days, I always think I'm closer than I am. I'm going to have bad putting days, I think I'm farther away. So it keeps me grounded a little bit as to like the distance of pots that I'm actually making. So since I'm already collecting that data, while I'm walking I put it in the phone.

Pat

All right. Jaimen and you're playing Jason 36 holes at Jay park. Who's winning?

Jaimen

Ooh. I think Jason and I were, we don't play very often, so it's probably whoever's played the most recently.

Pat

Or most stamina. Jason who's winning?

Jasan

It's close. I'm close to Jay park. I played a lot.

Jaimen

Oh, see, there you go. He wins. I also have a really frustrating thing where I can't get under a certain score at Jay park for whatever reason. Like at least on 27 holes, I'm shooting an 82, probably seven out of 10 times just 4under all the time. And I don't know what to do to stop shooting that score.

Pat

Trade you.

Andrew

Pretty good problem.

Jaimen

That's fair. I feel like at J park I could shoot like 77 or 76 pretty easily. Cause there's so many birdiable holes. I'm just never there.

Jasan

Yeah, if Jaimen's shooting 82. Maybe I'll change my answer. I dunno. Say 84, but I feel like it should be in the seventies. Cause par is 86. So after 27 holes, you feel like you should be more than two or three under?

Jaimen

Yeah, totally.

Pat

Yeah. I go 84 to 87, but that's how I get to Jay park, so... Wait, wait, Wait. It's the one they put in there. It's like an auto thing. Jaimen what hole? Oh, you just picked one, right? We'll go back the same way. Snake draft Jaimen what you got?

Jaimen

Okay. Let's go with three.

Pat

What would you like to talk about?

Jaimen

What would I like to talk about? A couple of things quick. One is that Me, Mike Schwartz and Kathleen Beamis are going to be running a women's global event on May 8th, and then we're going to be having a one round Flexstart C-Tier the next day on mother's day. It's one round flex start because it's on mother's day. So you still get to go hang out with your mothers, but registration is open on Disc golf scene. It's going to be awesome. There's going to be a great players back. We have two people under the age of 10 signed up right now, and I'm super excited about that. So that's that.

Pat

What is a women's global event?

Jaimen

So the women's global event is a worldwide tournament where everybody plays on the same weekend and it's all factored in through some additional piece of math besides figuring out your rating and then you're competing against everybody else in the nation or in the world in that division for that weekend. So even though we've only got one person in F A 50, there's probably close to 60 in the division worldwide. So they're only competing against themselves on the course, but they're competing against all other FA 60's in the world. That are playing.

Pat

That takes place over the weekend or is it just one day?

Jaimen

Over the weekend. So an event can be either Saturday or Sunday.

Kenji

That's been going on quite awhile.

Jaimen

Yeah.

Kenji

Every other year they do it annually.

Jaimen

I'm pretty sure it's every other year. There's some weird things about it. I don't think that running it on mother's day is a really a great idea. It's making statistically speaking, the mothers choose whether they're going to play a tournament.

Pat

It's just a, women's only tournament, correct?

Jaimen

Yeah. You can include men in them, but only the women's divisions and the tournaments count towards it. And you need two rounds unless you're under the age of 12.

Pat

That's cool. Jason, any, what do you want to talk about? Anything?

Jasan

How about a Monday tournament selling out?

Pat

You're talking about Craig's Tournament?

Jasan

Or is that another question or

Pat

No, that's fine. I didn't realize that it was today until late. So I'm glad that you brought this up.

Kenji

Greg Kurtz won!

Pat

Weekday Shorts presented by craig's disc.

Jaimen

Now what about that? No-show in that division. What's that guy about bum!

Kenji

You want to read why he hurt his thumb? Getting undressed last night?

Pat

Who was that?

Jaimen

Tim Giardini.

Jasan

Currently the highest rated MP50 player in New York. I think

Jaimen

He's also the highest tag person at that event. I'm sure that had nothing to do with it.

Pat

That's crazy.

Jasan

Good job, Greg. Yeah, beating Weinstock's good too. That was a good match between those guys.

Jaimen

Yeah, absolutely.

Kenji

You know why? Because Josh was out helping us work yesterday. Probably all tired.

Jasan

That'll do it.

Jaimen

Yeah. But Greg was out there on Saturday.

Pat

Greg, doesn't get tired.

Jaimen

That's fair. Give him some chocolate milk and I know he's good,

Kenji

He'll go and then crash.

Jasan

Oh, you guys did the prospect work, right? Saw the photos. That was pretty cool.

Kenji

Oh yeah. I saw the film of the drone footage of the Troy sign. You can see it from 87 now.

Jaimen

That was super cool.

Jasan

Yeah. I just got to play prospect last week for the first time. It's fun course.

Kenji

Yeah. It's a nice little fun back nine. It'll be fun, but be more up and through the woods and everything

Jasan

Cool.

Pat

The results for weekday shorts presented by Craig's disc. Pro, MA1 and FA1 played today. Alexandra Dennis came in fourth, Caitlin Clay in third Megan Mercier in second place. And Hudson Valley, disc golf podcasts. Andy Romanski, won by four strokes in the advanced division. heck yeah. Advanced division Gabriel Galveo came in third. There was a tie up first between Antonio Albert and Jake Bardales. And apparently Jake won it. Cause he's on top on this list here. Do anybody know any of these people?

Andrew

I've played in one tournament with Antonio before really good player. He's always like a couple of strokes. Beats me at every single tournament and he's a sweet dude. So shout out to Antonio. What's up, man?

Pat

All right. So pro masters 50 Johnny Simpson in third Josh Weinstock, in second Greg Kurtz in first I'll edit all your enjoyment there. Timothy Jiardini we know he started on hole 8. Yeah. 9:00 AM Pro Masters 40-4th place. Dan Tressler tie for second between Craig Smolan and Nick Smizac, Yeah. Nick's in second and Jason Kwap with a minus four, which was the same score as Greg Kurtz. Pro division third place, Chris Scofield, second place. Reva's Mark ons, Craig. And in first place, Todd Springer. Do you guys know any of those people?

Jaimen

Yeah, absolutely.

Pat

Who do you know?

Jaimen

All of them. So Chris is a pro from Connecticut. I believe his home course is cranberry. Ravis is a player out of borderlands who that guy's everywhere all the time. He's constantly posting stuff from just about every state within driving distance. Really awesome, dude. And Todd is another player from Connecticut. I believe sometimes he calls Bridgeport his home course and Todd lit it up averaging over 1030 golf. That's a really impressive

Pat

Damn, 1047 in the first round. And slacking in a second at 1023, man. I'll do my old joke, man. 95 strokes. I ain't getting up for, less than a hundred.

Kenji

1047, 1023. Nice!.

Noise

Hell yeah. Some Good Golf Yeah,

Kenji

I like that you can see the Hole scores now. You can see everybody's how they shot every hole.

Pat

Oh, view hole scores, I see that the new options. Oh, this brings, you to the live page.

Kenji

I do not see any ACEs and

Pat

I'm not going to say nothing to Danny McCormick ahh it's Hole 10, nevermind.

Jaimen

I really thought about going to this event, but the fact that there's going to be evidence about it on the internet.

Pat

What do you think of the split How they're divided like that?

Kenji

What is it, AM1 played today?

Pat

AM1, Pro, FA1, MP 50 and 40.

Kenji

I like that split

Pat

Basically all the pro divisions with advanced and then everything else.

Kenji

The only one I think that could have moved with the upper one would have been the advanced masters, but that's the one that's on the line.

Jaimen

Yeah. I would personally like to see tournaments and this is something I will do, I'm not just asking people to do it. I want to see intermediate with the pro day. And the reason for that is if intermediate played on the pro day, then every single division would have an opportunity to play their division and the higher division.

Pat

Yeah.

Jasan

Interesting.

Jaimen

So that would allow people to, to test the waters a lot more, especially on those two day events. That's like the perfect thing. That's the perfect time to do it.

Jasan

Yeah. Then you could have a combined division if you play both days. Like all the people that qualify by playing Saturday and Sunday could have some kind of ranking too. Like like totals.

Jaimen

You could do event tags. There's all sorts of things you could do.

Pat

Andrew, what do you want to talk about?

Andrew

So I think one of the last times I was on we were talking to Jason. It was like right after Jason, toned down the Mine Kill Tournament of last year. And I just wanted to say, Jason, I'm signed up for this year's tournament. I'm stoked. to play it.

Jasan

It's going to be great. Yeah, so the AM side I can't do the pro AM1 split because since a lot of the funds for Mine Kill go to this Saturday night throw off. And so I want all the AMS available to do that. So all the AMS on Saturday for the throw off.

Pat

Good point because everybody's Sunday, you can't do anything like that on Sunday.

Jasan

No, and the pros, they don't need to win more merchandise. So

Jaimen

Agree to disagree.

Kenji

Jaimen likes the baskets.

Jaimen

Yeah, absolutely. Actually one of my colleagues texted me today and said, Hey, somebody in the neighborhood has a disc golf basket out. You should get one. And I said, Oh, they only have one amateurs.

Andrew

I remember on registration night, I was on like dinner duty. My job was like, cut the onions, grate the cheese, whatever. And I had to stop at 7:55 and I'm like, went over and my girlfriend was like if the signups at eight, like what's the big deal. I was like, I'm going to be refreshing this for the next five minutes until I get in. Cause I'm not missing this tournament. Up.

Jasan

We did sell all the AM Holesponsors which is nice because that actually lowered the am costs$10 this year. So basically all the Hole sponsors just lowered the entry fee.

Andrew

Sweet.

Jasan

Yeah. I think that worked out well. And the tiered registration with ladies first and staggering. It really got all the people that I wanted to see in the tournament, maybe aside from a few, but I'm really happy with how the registration went.

Kenji

The opportunity to get in when they

Jasan

Cause it, the worst thing is being a TD. And if you have registration and it fills up really quick and you get a long wait list and it's depressing to see some of your friends or some or people that you really like to play on the pro side on the wait list. And this year with the pro basically having its own day. There's no worry about that filling up. So I get to see all the pros play and then I also get to see basically all of our friends on the AM day too hoping Liam Doyle gets into, but that'd be fun.

Kenji

What's your pro day number?

Jasan

37. And there's a few ladies that They said they were going to play FPO too. So I think actually this year is pretty crazy with the amount of female pros we have seven female pros and an FP 40 division with three ladies.

Jaimen

That's awesome.

Jasan

Yeah. That's seven times more female pros than we've had any other year.

Jaimen

Chelsea.

Jasan

Yeah. And she's not here this year to defend it. But yeah, I'm really glad to see that. And 37 is not a full tournament. It's not like FDR or Warwick, anything like that. But I think for our area, it's probably...

Kenji

That's pretty good for Mine Kill on just a Pro only.

Jasan

Can't think of any other local tournaments that have that many pros, so it's good. And the AM1 field is huge too this year. Usually for some reason, Mine Kill we don't get a lot of AM1's and this year we have quite a few.

Pat

What about the idea of Monday registration opens for pro and women Tuesday's advanced and then each day? What about that? Or is that crazy?

Kenji

I don't think that's a bad idea. That'd be a good trial run to see how it goes.

Jasan

That's interesting idea.

Jaimen

I like that for bigger events. I think that would be a good way to do it.

Kenji

It depends on what your event, you're trying to accomplish with it.

Pat

Like if you're doing a Mine Kill Championship, because it's a championship, like to what Jack was saying repeatedly...

Jasan

We need a mission statement.

Pat

But yeah, for a championship like that, I could definitely see that. And as long as they have that extra paying sponsorship, I'm all for it too.

Jasan

Yeah, to what Jack said. I agree with them that tournaments should have a mission statement. And I thought about what mine kills is. And I think the pro side, the mission is to have the best pros that we can at the event, play it and shoot the lowest score that they can. And on the AM's side, it's more about getting exposure to the course, to amateurs in the area. So there's two different mission statements, but I think having focused definitely is important and like how he brought that up.

Jaimen

Yeah. I think everything should have that focus, not just tournaments. A course should have that focus leagues should have that focus. Anything that anybody's doing to organize stuff they should be making sure that they have a set goal somewhere along the line that they're trying to achieve. I think.

Kenji

You can get a little more niche with the focus of what you're trying to do. You're trying to reach the area instead of just trying to accommodate everybody.

Jaimen

That's where Crandall came from going. Okay. We need a totally beginner course where that is. So let's make this totally beginning. I could have done nine holes with four tees on each one of them, but I don't think that would have served anybody as well.

Jasan

That's a good point. Yeah. Can you imagine how many different directions DisCap would be without a mission statement?

Kenji

The quote for another nine for Skidmore college new Scotland shortly, probably this week.

Jaimen

I'm going to need nine more in the next couple of months too.

Kenji

So there you go, we're up to 36 already.

Jasan

Wow.

Pat

That's crazy. Who hasn't picked? I dunno, everybody's picked Kenji pick a hole?

Kenji

Let's go whole six.

Pat

All right. Do I have anything? Let's see,[Charge Sound Effect] that's another default one. No, you got yeah, you got a home run. It's a quiz. You got a quiz, a Disc or No Disc. Got 12 questions here,

Jaimen

And who's partners?

Pat

It's going to be pros versus schmoes. So it's Jamien and Jasan and Kendrew.

Andrew

Kenji, I apologize. This is not my forte, so going to rely on you.

Kenji

Just say Discraft where it's proper.

Pat

So it's been awhile. Andrew. You're probably rusty, but in this one, you're going to answer the question and just tell me, is it a disc or is it not a disc?

Andrew

Cool.

Pat

Question one, what term for magician comes from middle English for wise? What term for a magician comes from middle English for wise?

Kenji

Do you know what I'm talking about Andrew, prestidigitator?

Andrew

I've never heard that word before.

Kenji

Is that the right word?

Andrew

If you feel good about it, I trust you.

Pat

We'll accept that as prestidigitator. Is that what you were going for? Is the prestidigitator no, it's not a disc. So, Jaimen and Jason, do you guys have a guess? What term for a magician comes from middle English for wise?

Jaimen

Going off of Kenji's answer, I want to say prestige which, sounds like a Discmania disc, but I don't know.

Jasan

I have no idea, Jaimen.

Jaimen

You want to just go with prestige? I do want to say Maestro, cause I know that Maestro's a disc.

Jasan

Oh, Maestro. I like that better.

Jaimen

Okay. Let's do that.

Pat

What was that? Maestro. We were looking for wizard. Wise Wizard.

Andrew

It's so simple.

Pat

And wizard is a disc.

Jaimen

Is it?

Kenji

We're thinking way too into that

Andrew

I thought wizard, but I was like, that's too simple.

Pat

It's question 1 guys. Jaimen and Jasan. What word used to describe the oldest profession comes from the civil war general who believed they raised troops morale.? What word used to describe the oldest profession comes from the civil war general who believed they raised troops morale?

Jaimen

So what's another word for prostitute?

Jasan

Is it like Hooker?

Pat

What word used to describe the oldest profession come from the civil war general who believed they've raised troops morale?

Jasan

So it's a civil war General, Hooker sounds like a general, right?

Jaimen

It does. Now my question is it the name of a general or did he name it?

Pat

It's his name.

Jaimen

Ok.

Jasan

Isn't that like one of those lightening discs?

Jaimen

I've never heard of that, but if you want to say hooker and it's a disc, I'm all for it.

Jasan

I'm second guessing myself now, but somebody really named a disc a Hooker?

Pat

You good with that?

Jaimen

Yeah. I almost just want to list off as many different names for prostitute as I can, but I'm stuck at hooker, so.

Andrew

Keep it classy.

Jaimen

I Didn't ask the question.

Pat

Is the hooker a disc? Is the hooker. Oh, you said hooker and yes, I'm sorry. Disc golf association. January 1st, 1982.

Jasan

Hey, I knew it would be one of those old companies.

Pat

And I don't believe it was named after the profession. It was probably named after what it does. Yeah.

Jaimen

DGA has a lot of nautical themes.

Jasan

I could just see the hooker on the old stamp.

Pat

That was question two. And there was two points to the Pros. Pros up 2-0. Question three for Kendrew: By leaving his cows unbranded, a Texas cattle rancher gave us what term for an independent loner? By leaving his cows unbranded, a Texas cattle rancher gave us what term for an independent loner?

Kenji

Lone ranger? Andrew, any ideas?

Andrew

Ranger sounds good. It's probably not like Cow related.

Kenji

That's what I was thinking is Cow related.

Andrew

Like a lone cow. Yeah. That makes sense. Texas, Ranger...

Kenji

Lone Star State, Lone Ranger, Ranger. Repeat the question one more time, Pat.

Pat

Certainly. By leaving his cows unbranded, a Texas cattle rancher gave us what term for an independent loner?

Kenji

Ranger. It doesn't sound right. Lone ranger.

Pat

Ranger?

Kenji

Yeah.

Pat

Pros, what do you guys think?

Jaimen

Can you spell a word for me?

Pat

Yeah.

Jaimen

Loner.

Pat

L O N E R.

Jaimen

All right. I wasn't sure if it was L O A N E R. I was like, Loan Shark! Okay I've been thinking in the wrong direction for three minutes, Jasan, sorry. So, an independent loner. Yeah. The only thing I can think of is lone ranger, which is already not right.

Jasan

What is the lone star? That's the Texas motto. Is that have anything to do with it?

Jaimen

Could, yeah. What's the Desperado song that doesn't have anything to do with anything, does it? Isn't that about a loner?

Jasan

Hold on, going through the lyrics in my head right now... not helping.

Jaimen

Yeah. It's definitely about a loner, but it's not a disc, but I don't know. That's another word that talks about a lone cowboy.

Jasan

I like that, let's go with Desperado.

Pat

We were looking for Maverick, Maverick.

Jasan

Did not know that.

Pat

He was the only one who didn't brand them, so he was considered a Maverick. Question four. Back to the pros, still up 2 nothing. In the 1984 film Ghostbusters, Rick Moranis plays Louis Tully, who is possessed by the demon VINs Clortho, and becomes the key master. Sigourney Weaver plays Dana Barrett, who was possessed by the demon Zuul and becomes what?

Jasan

Can you say that one more time?

Pat

Certainly, in the 1984, film Ghostbusters, Rick Moranis plays Louis Tully, who was possessed by the demon VINs Clortho, and becomes the key master. Sigourney Weaver plays Dana Barrett, who was possessed by the demon Zuul and becomes what?

Jaimen

Um! knew I should have watched Ghostbusters this week. I don't remember her turning into anything. Does she like turn into a hell hound or something? I feel like I remember Hellhounds in that movie at some point.

Jasan

You want to go with Hellhound?

Jaimen

Sure, the only other remarkable thing is the Stay Puft marshmallow man or something. And I know that's not a disc.

Andrew

Or is it. I've thrown that disc.

Jaimen

Yeah, I'm good with Hellhound.

Pat

You're both good with that?

Jasan

Yeah.

Pat

What about you guys, Kendrew? Got a chance for steal.

Kenji

I know she's called something.

Pat

In then 1984, film Ghostbusters, Rick Moranis plays Louis Tully, who is possessed by the demon Vhins Clortho, and becomes the key master. Sigourney Weaver plays Dana Barrett, who was possessed by the demon Zuul and becomes what?

Kenji

He keeps asking him around, are you the blah, blah, blah. I don't remember what it is, Andrew.

Andrew

It's not some like mythological person. It's not like a, like Medusa or anything like that, right?

Kenji

No. He's the key master. And she's the something, what is it?

Andrew

Gate Keeper?

Kenji

I don't think it's gatekeeper. Is it Gate Keeper? It might be gatekeeper that doesn't, I'm not thrilled about that one, but I can't come up with a better one.

Andrew

I'm just thinking it's like a key master.

Kenji

Let's go gatekeeper, Pat.

Pat

You good with that? Is the gatekeeper a disc?

Andrew

No Way!!

Pat

He was the key master. She was the gatekeeper. Exactly what you were saying. Is the gatekeeper a disc?

Kenji

Yeah, the Gate Keepers one of those West Side Discs, right? For some reason, I have a picture of a guy in front of a gate, on one of those West side discs. I don't know all of them, but.

Andrew

If you feel like you've seen it.

Kenji

I feel like I seen the picture of a gatekeeper I say Yes, Pat Positivity! Yes!

Pat

Are you positive enough to say that it's from West side? Are you willing to wager that point?

Kenji

Yes, It's West side, Gate Keeper.

Pat

Yeah, it is. It's the West side. Sorry, Andrew. I was trying to get some wagering going there.

Andrew

I would have taken it.

Pat

We're back to tie. Kendrew, like native Americans, many Mongolians follow what type of Mystic Healer, whose name means'he who knows'? Like native Americans, many Mongolians follow. What type of mystic healer, whose name means'he who knows'?

Kenji

That's gotta be Shaman, right? And the Shaman is a gate Gateway Disc.

Andrew

I love it.

Kenji

Yeah.

Pat

You agree with that, Andrew?

Andrew

Yep.

Pat

You are correct. Now you're in the lead. Question six, this is for the pros. Because they stole people's food, the word mouse gets its name from a Sanskrit word for what? Because they stole people's food, the word mouse gets its name from a Sanskrit word for what?

Jaimen

The Thief? The Thief is a disc.

Jasan

Yeah, That's what I was thinking.

Pat

Final Answer?

Noise

Yeah/Sure.

Pat

Is the thief a disc?

Noise

Yes. Yeah.

Pat

You want to wager a point on the company, you said who?

Jaimen

It's dynamic?

Jasan

Yeah.

Pat

All right. Halfway through four-four. Question seven, Ken Kandrew. The name of what Greek goddess of vengeance is now used to mean an unbeatable rival? The name of what Greek Goddess of vengeance is now used to mean an unbeatable rival?

Kenji

Unbeatable Rival? It's not a nemesis is it? Have any ideas, andrew?

Andrew

It's like I'm racking my brain for what's an unbeatable rival.

Pat

Yeah. We haven't played in a match in a while, so.

Kenji

The Valkyrie is the Valkyrie Greek goddess of vengeance. I don't think so,

Pat

10 seconds.

Kenji

What do you think Valkyrie? Nemesis? Any ideas?

Andrew

I feel like nemesis is closer. I'm kinda on the fence.

Kenji

Let's go nemesis, Pat.

Pat

Is the nemesis a disc?

Kenji

Yeah. Yes. Yes. It's a disc, Pat.

Pat

Legacy discs, February, 2015 pros, question 8, what title character joins snow white against her evil stepmother Queen Ravina in a 2012 film?

Jaimen

What's that called?

Pat

What title character joined snow white against her evil stepmother Queen Ravina in a 2012 film?

Jaimen

Trying to think what the name of that movie was. Do you remember Jason? Oh, wait. Malifacent.

Jasan

Yeah, I think you're right,

Jaimen

I don't know.

Jasan

That sounds, yeah. That's what I was thinking of.

Jaimen

All right. I'm all right with that. Unless it's a dwarf.

Pat

You guys good?

Jaimen

Malifacent, I don't even know if I'm saying it right.

Jasan

That was the movie, right?

Jaimen

That was the name of the movie. Yeah.

Jasan

I didn't see it though, so.

Jaimen

I didn't either, but that would be the title character, but wouldn't that be like the step mother was that I don't know. I could be talking about the wrong movie completely.

Jasan

Unless I can phone a friend. I got nothing better.

Jaimen

Yeah. I don't either.

Jasan

Let's go with that, Pat.

Pat

Kandrew?

Kenji

Oh, I know. It's the Woodsman.

Pat

What title character joined snow white against her evil stepmother Queen Ravina in a 2012 film?

Kenji

Andrew, It's the woodsman, It's a disc.

Andrew

I believe it.

Kenji

Westside, right? Another Westside disc..

Andrew

It's definitely the West side

Kenji

Final Answer, Pat.

Pat

What was your final answer?

Kenji

Woodsman, woodsman.

Pat

I'm sorry. It's the Huntsman. Snow White and the Huntsman.

Kenji

So close. I thought I had that.

Andrew

So close.

Pat

Kenji, is the Huntsman a disc?

Kenji

I don't know. The Woodsman's a disc, right? Isn't that a Westside disc?

Jaimen

The Boatman's a disc.

Pat

The Huntsman. March 10th, 20 21. 4th circle discs

Jasan

What? Last week?

Kenji

I thought I had that, Andrew. Sorry.

Andrew

I think you did it. You had it in my heart for sure.

Kenji

I knew exactly. What's his name, Thor Chris Hemsworth

Pat

So, we got four questions left. I got Andrew at six pro's at four. And this is for Kendrew right?

Kenji

Yeah.

Pat

Question nine. St. Joseph of Aramathia, who requested Jesus's body from Pontius Pilot, is the patron Saint of what workers? Saint Joseph of Aramathea, who requested Jesus's body from Pontius Pilot is the patron Saint of what workers?

Kenji

I am not at all religious. Slave, is the slave a disc? It's the only thing that kind of, patrons Saint of what? Repeat that question one more time, Pat.

Pat

Certainly, St. Joseph of Aramathea, who requested Jesus's body from Pontius Pilot, is the patron Saint of what workers?

Andrew

Coroner, Mortician.

Kenji

What workers are going to be back then. Really?

Andrew

Grave diggers.

Pat

Got About 10 seconds.

Andrew

Is a grave Digger a disc?

Kenji

Is a grave Digger a disc? I have no idea. It's a Monster car. I drive by when to go out to the outer banks. Is that your feeling is it grave Digger? In Jesus' time?

Andrew

If my mom could not listen to this.

Kenji

I don't think that sounds right. I don't know. I'm clueless, the only thing I thought was Slave but I don't even know if the slave is a disc.

Andrew

I hope not.

Kenji

Your call.

Pat

The final answer grave digger?

Andrew

Yeah.

Pat

Pros, what do you guys think?

Jaimen

All right. Jason, I think I got it.

Pat

St. Joseph of Aramathea, who requested Jesus's body from Pontius Pilot is the patron Saint of what workers?

Jasan

What you got, Jaimen?

Jaimen

Undertaker.

Jasan

That's what I was thinking too.

Pat

Is the Undertaker a disc?

Jaimen

Yes.

Jasan

Oh yeah.

Kenji

Oh, we were so closed.

Pat

You are Correct.

Jaimen

I had no idea until you said grave Digger. I was like, oh.

Andrew

Besides the word. Do they have a different job?

Pat

What's that? Is the Grave Digger a disc?

Andrew

Is a grave Digger, a undertaker, are they like the same person?

Kenji

No.

Andrew

Okay, Cool.

Pat

Question 10 for the pros. Each year, Marines must score 250 at a 350 on a point scale to qualify for what title? Each year Marines must score 250 out of 350 on a point scale to qualify for what title?

Jaimen

I know nothing about the army or more specifically the Marines.

Jasan

Trying to think of anything specific to Marines.

Jaimen

Is the cadet a Marine thing?

Jasan

Maybe Sergeant or.

Jaimen

Oh that might be. That's a disc, yeah.

Jasan

Can you repeat the question one more time, Pat?

Pat

Each year Marines must score 250 out of 350 on a point scale to qualify for what title?

Jaimen

I wonder do they have to do that every year

Pat

Yes.

Jaimen

So it's not officer or anything like that, that would be a one-time test.

Jasan

Yeah. I don't think a title would be, although I really don't know. No idea.

Jaimen

Yeah. Sergeant sounds good. I don't think it's right, but it's more than I've got.

Pat

Candrew, what do you guys think?

Kenji

I'm in the same boat as they are Andrew?

Andrew

Yeah.

Kenji

It's not like a rank. It's gotta be something different.

Andrew

Isn't like the term, Leatherneck in the military? I don't think it's that but it's something like that.

Kenji

A leatherneck is another term for Marine, but is that a title? A Leatherneck?

Andrew

Maybe in like Marine world?

Kenji

Sure. We'll go with Leatherneck.

Andrew

I don't know if it, I don't know if that's it, but I think it might be something like that.

Kenji

Pat, let's go Leatherneck.

Pat

We were looking for marksman millennium discs October 1st, 2018. Going into the last two questions. Kendrew is at six. The pros are at six.

Kenji

All right.

Jasan

Close match.

Pat

Question 11. This is for Kandrew, Kendrew. Which chess piece is Der springer in German? Which chess piece is Der springer in German?

Kenji

That's a guess to me Andrew. I have No idea.

Andrew

Maybe we can narrow it down.

Pat

Der Springer just won a tournament today.

Jaimen

Where's Springer?

Pat

Der Springer.

Andrew

I'm thinking like knight, maybe. I don't think it's pawn,

Kenji

I was thinking knight or pawn. I don't know Is that something like a horse?

Andrew

Yeah. Yeah. That's what, yeah. That's what came to my mind.

Pat

Is the Knight a disc?

Kenji

Alright, I don't know.

Andrew

I've never heard of the night as a disc, but that's not saying very much.

Kenji

There's so many weird companies out there. You'd think that someone would name a Knight. There's a night stalker, right? But is there a night like K I N G H T? What do you think? No, Andrew?

Andrew

I'm thinking, No, but.

Kenji

No? Alright Pat. No it's not a disc

Jaimen

Yes it is

Pat

Latitude 64, February 25th, 2016.

Andrew

It's certainly not a Discraft disc, that's for sure.

Jaimen

It's a Superfast, understable driver.

Pat

Alright, Final Question. Kendrew is at 7 The pros are at six. Producer, Phil Spector played the guitar solo on what R and B vocal groups, 1963, top 10 hit, On Broadway? Producer Phil Spector played the guitar solo on what R and B vocal groups, 1963, top 10 hit, On Broadway?

Jaimen

Yikes. All right, Jason, 1960s, R and B groups go...

Jasan

Jaimen you're the music guy. Come on.

Jaimen

No, I'm not. I play an instrument. I don't listen to music.

Jasan

So 63 R&B it's before my time.

Pat

Producer, Phil Spector played the guitar solo on what R and B vocal groups, 1963, top 10 hit,On Broadway.

Jasan

It's on Broadway. Does that help?

Jaimen

Is that the name of the song?

Pat

Yes. The name of the song is. On Broadway.

Jasan

Oh.

Jaimen

Thinking of discs.

Jasan

Wait, what was the question?

Pat

Producer. Phil Spector played the guitar solo on what R and B vocal groups. 1963, top 10 hit comma on Broadway. Worded it poorly, I'm sorry.

Jasan

We're looking for the name of the song? The name of the RNB group.

Pat

We're looking at the name of the RNB group that sang the song. On Broadway.

Jaimen

I don't know any RNB group names.

Jasan

I think it was like sixties. The Supremes?

Jaimen

As good of a guess as I could have

Jasan

Not really R&B but I guess Diana Ross and the Supremes.

Pat

Final answer.

Jasan

I got nothing better, Jaimen.

Jaimen

No, I got nothing better.

Pat

Kendrew. What do you got?

Kenji

All right. We're winners. I have no idea. Temptations. What other R and B groups of the 60's?

Andrew

Yeah. Supremes, temptations, dramatics, drifters, Four Seasons,

Kenji

Four Tops.

Andrew

Four tops.

Pat

Drifter, the drifter, the drifters technically, but. Is the drifter a disc?

Kenji

I don't know, is it a disc? Is that what we're picking? It doesn't matter. If you wanna write it.

Pat

Full turn discs. March 8th, 2017.

Jaimen

Oh, there's also a drift.

Pat

Oh yeah. Congratulations Kandrew.

Andrew

Ooh.

Jaimen

Last year we saw a huge growth of the sport in DisCapland. The area has seen a lot of courses installed and a ton of new players. While the new courses are playable, many lack signage, and don't have tee pads, let's finish our local courses this year. Finishing them is going to take everyone's help. Get ready to see a ton of work days posted in the coming months. Jeff and I are putting together an invite only event for the fall as a thank you to everyone who helps this year. All you need to do to get an invite is help out. Showing up to any Workday to help us make your courses great will get you on the list. I understand that helping at workdays might not be possible for everyone. So it isn't the only way you can get on that list. You all have skills that can help make the sport better in the region and I couldn't begin to know what all of those skillsets are. If you have a skill set, you think would be helpful, but need to be pointed in the right direction, please reach out and I'll help you make it happen. So that was my post.

Kenji

It's call out the volunteers. We've definitely seen a pickup in people who are coming out and trying to help and whatnot. But for years there was the same small group of people that are out every single time at all the work days.

Jasan

Yeah.

Pat

What kind of event you thinking about?

Jaimen

I don't know exactly how it would run, probably be like a one round trickle start thing you show up whenever you want to. But right now we're planning on doing it Greg's courses. Greg has some land that he owns and he's built two courses on it. One's a really challenging high blue level course. And the other one's a par 54. You can play it like four times in a day type. Of course. And Greg being the patron Saint of volunteers loves the idea of us having it at his place. So basically I'm gonna reach out to a brewery and see if I can get a keg donated. We're gonna have a barbecue and all sorts of CTP prizes and stuff, just to thank everybody for all of the work that they're doing to help us make everything possible. So much of the area is built completely on volunteer support. So I think that we should thank them.

Kenji

It's a great idea.

Jasan

Yeah.

Jaimen

And I got to give Jeff a lot of credit for it. When I first thought of the idea it was a little mean-spirited I guess I wanted to make the volunteer list like privately and then invite everybody at the end of the year and not tell anybody about it. But I realized that was not the right way to do that. As a teacher, one of the things that we focus on a lot is intrinsic versus extrinsic motivation. So whether you're doing something for the reward of it or doing it because you want to do it, you think it's the right thing to do. And at the end of the day, I don't care with disc golf. Yeah, if you helped me build a tee pad I don't care if you're motivated to do it because it's the right thing to do. The bottom line is you're helping a ton of people and you're making everybody else's life easier in the process. Obviously I tend to be a pretty intrinsically motivated person with disc golf, but I understand that's not realistic, with everybody people are playing it for fun. Nobody got into this sport and said, man, I hope that someday somebody lets me build a tee pad. Kind of bait and switch.

Pat

So your Jaimen words of the day are intrinsic extrinsic that is sponsored by Craig's disk. The Jaimen's word of the day. Is there a possibility of donating money instead of time?

Jaimen

Yes, absolutely. That was the last part of it is that I don't know what everybody's great at. Some people are really great at. Graphic design and can design T signs. One person said they had some kind of a plasma cutter and they can cut metal, so they'd be able to do stuff with that. Everybody's got these skills that if somebody without those skills trying to do it, it would take forever and it wouldn't look good. So anybody who can do anything at all is more than welcome, and that will definitely get them on that list.

Pat

I think one of the biggest issues with disc golf is a lack of communication. Kenji you, were you saying that at the last tournament, you relied too much on Facebook?

Kenji

Yeah. And we do cause if you're plugged in you know, you see that stuff, but if you're not, you don't.

Pat

But what's the alternative?

Kenji

I thought the forum was much better than Facebook, but the forums just went out the window. Nobody really uses forums too much anymore. We got a discord. I don't visit it too often, but some people use it, but it's not like it was, I dunno, it's hard to find information on Facebook. It's good to communicate with people that people are paying attention, but hard to find information.

Pat

People basically, yeah, one of two things you got money or your time, and just because you've got time to help at least giving the ability to donate money. Cause that's going to buy your materials too. Sure. And again you just don't have that time.

Jaimen

Know just the practical sense that I can't build a tee pad if I can't buy the stuff to make it first.

Kenji

Yeah. We've put up some new support, new courses like prospects expanding. We see the work that they uncovered the Troy sign out there. We put up like a donation button for that on our website and for the new Scotland course that we're walking in play the other day, that's going to be getting baskets really soon. They need money for tee pads and everything. And I say, it's been, I've been surprised. We've been getting a lot of donations. I literally deposit a$2,500 check today, came in for a. The new Scotland chorus. I was like, wow. That's awesome.

Jaimen

That is awesome.

Pat

Well, It's kind of rainy over there. So I hear the really good on golf.

Kenji

15 minutes outside of colony. Not sure how familiar are with up here, Pat.

Pat

No, I know Ravina

Kenji

No, this is like North of Ravina.

Pat

Only. Cause I get off the exit that says Ravina and I know I'm in Albany County when I go to Jay park. Mine kill. I know I go through Hunter. It's weird mine kill is always different. I go one way and then I full circle coming back. I usually go through a Hunter.

Jasan

Yeah. We're 23 go past Caterskill falls.

Pat

Yeah. Yeah. That's fun. I never really thought about that way. Jaimen with volunteers using their skills. Cause you don't even know have you gotten any weird requests or. Offers yet. I know it's early, but.

Jaimen

So not super weird, but we did have a guy who posted on a DisCap forum that he had said he had played Crandall and was willing to hand paint tee signs for Crandall. Which is, yeah, it was one of those things I was blown away. It was the first time anybody had really reached out with something like that to me. But the unfortunate part of it was we already have somebody making Tee signs. So we have another person donating that.

Pat

Yeah. And that goes back to the communication. Like, one of the biggest things that beacon, especially early on was just people and I'm sure they still do. They just do stuff, and it's like, Oh, that's great. If you had let us know ahead of time, we might've been able to do it better and bigger cause the course might've been able to fund it. You know what I mean? Like you'll show up one day and just be like, wow, there's a new blah, blah blah. It's nice. You're not going to turn it down, but.

Jaimen

A hundred percent. So what I told this guy was that we already have somebody doing the T signs, but I think that might be a really good fundraising thing where we could find some really memorable holes in the area and have you hand paint tee signs for those and then auction them off or something like that.

Pat

I don't know, maybe the dream 18?

Jaimen

This was right around that time. So I don't know exactly which one came first, but yeah, that would, that's a great way to tie that in, but I haven't talked to him in a while, so it has not happened yet, but be on the lookout for raffles in the next one to seven years.

Jasan

Went to Stony Kill yesterday to help out a little bit there's some awesome terrain back there. I never knew existed.

Jaimen

There really is.

Kenji

I haven't walked it in quite a while, but there's a ton of land.

Jasan

Yeah, a little waterfall they're incorporating in. There's these huge ravines that you throw over. I was just, I wasn't expecting it. I was really impressed by the terrain that Jean has to work with.

Jaimen

Yeah. That first par 4 when you go into the woods is going to be a fun hole.

Jasan

Yeah. That needs a bridge.

Jaimen

It does. Were you there when the tree was already down or were they ratchet strapping the tree down when you were there?

Jasan

I was there yesterday around noon.

Jaimen

Okay. So there was this pretty big half dead, I think it was a maple tree, that was maybe 110 hundred and 20 feet off the tee pad. And it made just this perfect four foot wide gap that nobody was ever going to throw through on purpose. And so they, cut it down to make it an, actually a really nice drive, but it got hung up in a tree and we just left it there overnight and hope that when everybody came back the next day it would have been on the ground, but it wasn't. So they hooked up a ratchet strap to another tree and pulled it down that way.

Jasan

Oh, nice. Yeah, I saw that actually a strap on the side of the trail. I don't know, two ton come along or something with it too.

Jaimen

Yeah. Yeah.

Jasan

Yeah. That's one way to get tree down.

Kenji

We got to do that with the tree on J park. Old number 17.

Jaimen

Okay. Yeah. So 24, right?

Kenji

24.

Jaimen

Yeah. I don't know. Yeah, no, that tree needs more than that.

Kenji

That same tree is now leaning and it's like totally diagonal across the fairway.

Jaimen

Oh, I know.

Jasan

What Hole?

Jaimen

Old 17. That tree that's like falling down. The last two times I played that hole I actually hit that tree and I was pretty incensed. It's like leaning directly across the fairway.

Kenji

Yeah, it's right in the line.

Jasan

One lesson learned with come along is this, make sure you wrap around the tree. I made a mistake of putting this long lag into a tree and tried to pull it over and the lag pulled out. And it was like a bullet.

Kenji

Oh yeah. I can imagine. Yeah. big flying Spike.

Jasan

And we were pulling it with a truck. We have a small track. We tried everything and that was on top of that. And it was really hung up behind my house. Where I was cutting some holes and yeah, lesson learned, you gotta wrap a chain around. it and do it. Now, everything I do is with heavy duty chains.

Kenji

Yeah. Be careful of stored tension. I took a log to the face at central park

Jasan

I remember that. Yeah. It was like when I first started playing probably like 2015, 16 got a Shiner from it, right?

Kenji

Yeah. Yeah. I just, I caught a log and I didn't realize how much stored tension in it and it flung a lot further than I thought it would when I caught it.

Jaimen

Yeah, that stuffs no joke. My dad hosts a game of logging course every year on his property. If you ever want to come up and learn how to not kill ourselves,

Kenji

I got to say I'm pretty careful. I know that's probably the biggest mistake I've made.

Jaimen

Except for that one time, the log almost took your head off.

Kenji

It was like a punch in the face. What's going on with beacon?

Pat

I know Dubs are starting up on Wednesday this week and that's really it right.

Andrew

As far as I know, I think yeah.

Pat

They're some other, like less formal there's always the Friday social and all that.

Andrew

I'm not sure, there are more tee pads but a lot of Tee pads got put in. I'm sure y'all have talked about it.

Pat

Hole one though. Got decimated. Did you see that? Behind it?

Andrew

No,

Jaimen

Oh, all those Vine Trees.

Pat

They're gone. You can basically walk through there's it's they're gone. When's the last time you played?

Andrew

Maybe two weeks ago.

Pat

I played once. Earlier this week, I want to say maybe it was last week. Either one. It was within that two weeks and behind hole one. There were trees down and cut, and then there's like nothing behind the basket anymore. Really big empty. Yeah. Yeah.

Andrew

Whoa.

Jaimen

Those were covered in a lot of really big vines..

Pat

If you overshot the basket by 10 feet, you didn't really have a shot.

Jaimen

Yeah, I remember it.

Pat

Now it's wide open.

Jaimen

Yeah, so with vines like that, they'll cause trees even like really healthy ones to fall over a lot faster and break faster than you would expect them to because it's a lot of extra weight up there that the tree isn't built for.

Pat

Less than a year ago, one of them came down and took out the basket. They're these kind of fell over to the side. So they're not even in the way, in fact, it's a little barrier behind to that side, but it's much cleaner. So now if you go along, you just have a, I might have a 20 footer unobstructed though.

Jaimen

I really like Beacon. Last time I went down there, I had to play Jim Coyle on a Match. And I forgot about the Island hole. So I threw my drive. I was like, Oh, that's okay. He's yeah, you might be in what are you talking about? I wasn't in.

Kenji

Trying to be nice.

Pat

Happy St. Paddy's Day!, Sweet Up! Hudson Valley and get well soon Don Bucko. Thank you guys.

Kenji

Did anybody else watch any of the coverage yet? Do you care? If I spoil it? Nico did good. Are you familiar with Waco? The 17th hole is like a dogleg, right with a peninsula kind of green, water left. So he throws a forehand off the tee, way, wide and low. And it skips four times to just get back in bounds, like unbelievably lucky skips to make it back in bounds. And then he's got kale right behind him that's one stroke down. So he got super lucky off the tee. Kale had driven before him and put a drive straight out to the corner so that all he has is a straight, mid range out to the peninsula, which he's super smooth with that straight shot with no problem for him. He threw it far enough not to have to bend it at all. And then Niko throws his upshot and he comes up a hundred feet short because he had to go around the corner. Kale makes a shot, goes past the basket a little bit, maybe 20, 25 feet past. And then doesn't Nico throw like this little short, mid range kind of flex shot from about a hundred, 120 feet into the basket to not let Cale take a stroke off. Unbelievable. How lucky he got.

Jaimen

Excited to see that.

Kenji

Yeah, I was watching Jomez Final 9, was real cool. Nico was on fire. He birdied the first seven holes and then he missed a putt and then he was in his head for the next six holes. He missed four, in the circle putts, after that.

Jaimen

Did you look at the scoring of anybody else?

Kenji

No, I didn't just besides the lead card?

Jaimen

So I was watching the live scoring on UDisc live. The thing that stood out to me was Ricky's round. He started off with double bogey. I'm pulling it up right now, but I want to say, I know for a fact that he had two pars the entire round and they were right next to each other and everything else after that was either a bogey, double bogey, triple bogey, or a birdie or an Eagle. So, he went double bogey.

Kenji

He went Double Bogey on 1?

Jasan

Yeah, he threw a that's where I left off. He threw like a Hyzer went OB, and then he threw a forehand and.

Kenji

Did it roll OB?

Jasan

No then he, I think he putted, and then missed the putt and went OB.

Kenji

Oh!

Jaimen

So yeah, so he went double, single bogey, eight birdies with an Eagle in the middle.

Kenji

That's through all the wooded stuff, that's great.

Jaimen

Yeah, and then double bogey, par, triple bogey birdie, bogey. So he finished at three under and he had a stretch to where he was 10 under.

Kenji

That's wow.

Jaimen

Which is insane.

Jasan

Man, that course looks brutal.

Jaimen

It does. I've heard a lot of conversations about the course in general.

Jasan

Yeah, man, I haven't played it.

Kenji

Just gotta stay on the fairways.

Jasan

Yeah. Hole 4's like that really tight tunnel. Par four, I feel like you're 10 feet left or right where you need to land. You're just cut off.

Jaimen

Yeah. There was a lot of that. I like how mean the rough is. I really liked that natural OB. It reminds me a lot of Beaver State Fling where you're very seldomly getting out and forward in the same shot.

Jasan

You pitching back to the fairway.

Jaimen

Yeah. I liked that aspect of it, but I haven't played the course myself, so I can't say too much. I did see a video of germ bouncing his drive off the basket on hole 18 and having it roll back into the water. Oh yeah.

Jasan

I saw a Macbeth on the first hole skipped off the top of the basket and went OB.

Kenji

Wow.

Jaimen

Kona is, she's really the talk of the event. She finished 12th strokes, clear of second place.

Kenji

Wow.

Jaimen

Yeah. So yeah, she shot 16 down for the weekend and then Ohn Scoggins was four down. Paige Pierce was only one down.

Jasan

Yeah. Not her style course.

Jaimen

It's cool to see so many people from the Northeast in the event though. I saw Casey white was there, nick. Carl was there. Dan Brooks Wells was there. Yeah.

Jasan

Mark

Jaimen

Yep. And then a Pennsylvania guy. I forgot his name, but I'm looking for it. Discmania players. Super nice guy. Mike Carmen was there too.

Kenji

I was just watching Jomez coverage.

Jaimen

I always like watching the tournament because it does lead to a lot of scoring separation. How challenging some of those woods holes are?

Kenji

I started watching Simon's companion feed. That was cool. I like how he did that. He was up in the corner talking about it and stuff.

Jaimen

That's interesting

Jasan

Either you guys do the skip Ace picks.

Kenji

No, I haven't gotten into that yet.

Jaimen

Yeah. I haven't done a league since our win a disc league. Jason.

Jasan

Another reason that I watch coverage, I was like, all right. Rooting for somebody.

Pat

How'd you do?

Jasan

Not too great, Waco. Jess talked me into picking Haley King when I wanted to pick Kona. And I was like, ah, so we've been arguing about it all weekend.

Pat

Wow. He just put that out there for 10 of people to listen to.

Jasan

I've been picking Brody Smith though. He's been doing well. Shooting, pretty hot rounds.

Jaimen

Did you hear his Nate Sexton podcast?

Jasan

No.

Jaimen

He said that he doesn't care about this year just for the future.

Jasan

All right He's off my picks.

Jaimen

His eyes on 2022.

Jasan

The 10 20. Golf's not good enough for him?

Jaimen

I guess not. He thinks that he's really going to be vying for some titles next year, which is going to be my excuse from now on also.

Andrew

Do you think, if he wins a tournament, it's going to be like big news, like it's going to be on ESPN or anything, or is it just going to be like, Hey, another dude, won a tournament?

Jaimen

The PDGA announced three people's ratings, this ratings update. One of them is the highest rated male on the planet. One's the highest rated female ever. And the other one's Brody Smith at 1,002. Yeah. I think they're going to make a huge deal if he wins anything above a B-Tier.

Andrew

Yeah.

Kenji

Do you think he will? I don't think he will this year. I don't know.

Jaimen

I think he might win like an A-Tier.

Kenji

Yeah, maybe an A-Tier, nothing up there. The big events. Pro Tours and NT's.

Jaimen

No, his interview with Nate. Sexton was pretty interesting. He feels that all of the pros are not getting paid enough, basically.

Andrew

Sure.

Jaimen

Which yeah. Being a pro, that makes a lot of sense.

Andrew

Probably makes them more than them just doing.YouTube.

Pat

Who's supposed to pay them?

Jaimen

Well. And that's the question. Should the companies be paying them more or should the purses be more? And I think his answer is yes to both.

Kenji

I don't think we're there yet.

Jaimen

No. I think one of the things with disc golf and Jack could be here to talk for 25 minutes about this one is that disc golf right now is funded by disc golfers. So everything that we tend to do happens because other disc golfers allow it to whether it be payouts for events, all that kind of stuff. And until we're getting money from other places, we're not going to really be able to grow in a sustainable way.

Kenji

Agreed

Andrew

So just like more like sponsorships from.

Jaimen

From Non Disc Golf entities.

Andrew

Yeah. Okay.

Pat

More recognition of the sport.

Jaimen

Absolutely.

Pat

Like Jack was talking about with the skateboarding. And I only realized that after editing. I always have my best follow-up questions during the editing process, but he was talking about skateboards and everybody had a skateboard. So everybody knew skateboard, I don't know how this golf it's just like golf. It'll I think it'll always be a fringe sport.

Kenji

It definitely exploded last year.

Pat

At least regular golf, you can have a gallery, disc golf, you're limited.

Jaimen

Yeah, I don't think it's going to get to golf's level anytime soon. Just the amount of money that they put into the production alone. I think somebody said recently is so significantly higher than anything that the disc golf pro tour does ever that it's going to take a very long time to get anywhere near there if we ever do. But I also think that we're growing in a very different way.

Kenji

We don't have to be golf.

Jaimen

I don't want to be golf.

Kenji

No.

Jaimen

I'd like to have a restaurant on the course, but that's about it.

Kenji

Yeah. Yeah. Me too. Even like golf, I don't even I don't get thrilled about watching the golf course disc golf courses, they're less interesting to me.

Jaimen

Yeah
