#168-Next Gen 2
[00:00:00] Can can everyone hear me? Okay. We good? What, what are we? What's the ladder for seat? Oh, sweet. Nah, you'll be, you're a young gun. You'll be right to stand up for an hour then. Dude. I'm ready. I'm ready. Are you guys ready? Geez. Yeah. Yeah. Passes up what? Babe passes the oh, camera there. I don't see no vape next generation.
Oh, recording shit. Wait, am I allowed? No vape was consumed during this podcast. Whatever damn straight. We all know about last time, but that's sad. PAE bash me. Zaja okay. Everyone ready? Any, yeah, we're ready. So, um, I've gotta do a little ad read. Oh, I'm not touching that shit again. Come on, do it again. You did it last time.
No. All right, so this is for Clemen OTI. All right. So, um, get some soft sandals they're made for motor vehicle tires. Um, And help advocate for conscious and ethical fashion, but for fucks sake, it's gonna rain in Australia apparently for the next. How long did you guys hear about that? [00:01:00] No, no. Unaware. It was the third Nia coming.
I did see about the third linear. Yeah. Anyway. So in a couple hours, maybe so INO soul, maybe they should make some fucking gum boots out of repurposed motor vehicle ties. But if you're in Australia, it is coming into summer. So go and get youo souls. There be Corp certified company, which is the certification created by Patagonia.
And today is a bit of a moment to stay because the founder of Patagonia who owns a $3 billion company, Patagonia itself, he just gave the whole company away. To non for profit organizations and trust funds that are dedicated to saving the environment. So Steve is fine. Pretty rad, man. And talk about putting your money where your mouth is $3 billion.
What of mouth fucking legend. So well done. So if you go to INO, so.com that's I N D O S O L e.com. Use code T HT, get a pair of RA slides or sandals for summer. If you're in the, in the Southern hemisphere, if you're in the Northern hemisphere and it's going into winter, [00:02:00] still get a pair and harden the fuck up.
terrible. Happy talks, terrible. Happy talks
go 3, 2, 1, right. Let's do this. Today's guests are returning. They were episode 147. I like to call 'em the next gen. They love to skate. They're on the cusp of. Adulthood. Yeah, I'd say that. Speaking to the microphone, I'm turning 18 soon. I'm turning 18 soon. One of them's turning 18. I'm interested. Happy birthday.
Don't have still got a curfew. Epic. I'm interested in them because these guys are on the cusp of, you know, maybe being the next generation to push the boundaries. Always a pleasure will Toby and Jonah. They're here to share their experiences, challenges, and hopes for the future as the pizzas [00:03:00] delivered.
Welcome gentlemen. Thank you. Thank you. And the pizzas here and glad to be back pizza time. As always, I'd like to introduce this. Week's cohost, Mr. Marlon Roche. Thank you very much. It's always a pleasure to be here now. Listen, man. I've got a few questions for you. Honestly, I get started. Wanna start strong.
I like starting strong. How do you guys feel about the queen passing away last week? Honestly, rest and peace. I got fat cha we, we say that that's so funny. No, it's just, oh, O libs. Yay. Um, I love O libs seems you like olives more than the queen? I didn't know her so didn't know her. No. What about you, Jonah?
How do you feel about the queen passing away? Oh, it's pretty sad. I knew it was gonna happen soon. Yeah. What, what, what gave you that impression? So can you hold the microphone away from the box while you do that? Sorry, it's just script. There we go.
So, no, honestly, how do you feel about it, [00:04:00] Jane? Like what does it mean to you? oh much really, honestly, but I do love the queen. Why she
top, top, much to say about it. What has she done for you lately though? I don't know. I heard she did some pretty bad shit. She's kick back. I heard she, she has some fucked up shit. Where'd you? Where'd you hear that? I'm just curious, uh, news on the news, on the news. Yeah. Yeah. And LA story. Okay. And I'm just curious.
I like, I guess this is like, the reason I asked this is moments in time and I just wanna see where you guys are at with that. And do you understand that? And I'm just curious, just like last episode, I also asked you guys, um, about what climate change is. Oh, okay. So since it's a big question, that episode, it is a big question, Marlin.
I I'm gonna hit 'em hard earlier. You got it right? Because they're the future. Someone's gotta do it. I know. So how have you, do you guys know what climate change is? [00:05:00] Same as last time. I mean, same as last time. I, I now kind of work in an industry where it kind of like works hand in hand. Yeah. Like fossil fuels.
Yeah. Like I work in like coal mines and stuff. Okay. So you got a new job? Yes, I do. Congratulations, man. Thank you. Yeah. So how, when does it, is it something that's concerning for you? Um, to me, no, I feel bad for saying no, but no, don't feel bad. Yeah. It doesn't really, it doesn't affect me personally. Okay.
Doesn't it. Are you sure it does? How, how does it does how well, what, um, are you like aware of what happens to the planet, if that kind of core temperature shifts by even a degree or something? Oh yeah. Yeah. I've heard about that. Listened. Yeah. Like sea levels rise. Mm-hmm mm-hmm go sea levels rise. Like motherfucker studied.
it's something you, you gain an interest in as you get older, because if I have, if I have kids, like I'm 27 now, if I have kids by the time [00:06:00] my kids are 70. Is there gonna be a planet for them to be death? yeah. Well, I mean medical Kia kids. Yeah. I'm just curiously improved. I'm just curious because like, you know, like I said, moments in time, this is part of history at the, in the making what's going on, you know, like we live on this coast of Australia having noticed it hasn't stopped raining in like almost a whole.
Yeah. Yeah. How does that make you feel? It's it's scap. I think we got banned from summer after all those 2020 fires mother nature was like your full band day. So funny. No, you're in the doghouse. You're in the doghouse. You like get more rain, the fire it's good for the garden. Oh, well, yeah. Anyway, win some loose some.
So will what's been going on? You been taking any photos? Not recently. I I've just been taking, um, like gig photography and filming mainly. Oh yeah. Nice. What what's what gigs you been to recently? Um, well was the last one, the last one I went to is pictures with Yuki, which is one of my good friends band.
Um, it was pretty good. It was at seeker. Okay. My dad was there. [00:07:00] Yeah. Oh, he got pretty drunk and then, nah, I'm joking now. No, he is, had a fun time. It was good. I liked it. I liked, ER, never been there before. Okay. Where is that? It's in like the back of Unida. It's just like a shed. Okay. Just like where they're, it's just a brewery where they just have a little stage.
Okay. Nice man. Nice. So have you guys been skating much like Jonah? I noticed like you got a, you got a new job at skate park. How's that working out for her? I've actually been working there for quite a bit like a year, maybe. Okay. But I'm kind of getting bored of it every time. Every time I go, I'm like, oh, should I quit?
wait, wait. Didn't didn't you teach a 30 year old the other day. I'm not saying that's bad. Yeah. Yeah. That's pretty cool. His name was Michael respect to Michael. Yeah. And he wants to start skating at 30 or he was like, he's been skating for a while. I think like he could do drop in all the basic tricks. I think it was just want some help.
Yeah. Like on what? Like what sort of tricks was he trying to learn? Like could he O yeah, he [00:08:00] could Oll. He could kick foot. Oh, maybe just like I was helping him hit a rail dude. I might come for a lesson. I can't do those things. Yeah. I need to learn how to skate handrails. Marlon can't kick foot. Probably dude, I can't dude.
Not honestly. Honestly, I have this weird 90 degree disease where I can shift it or nothing at all. Really. So I just, but I can't land a shifty kick flip, so it doesn't matter. I'll show you how to rocket flip dude. I've heard of the rockets. So what what's that mean? Like you do a kick flip. The board's going straight up.
Yeah. Yeah. Toby love S isn't that what they call like a Toby loves a rocket flip. Toby loves a rocket flip. Yeah. I love them. They're bad. Is it like a mob flip? Yes. Mob mob is hell I, but I like, you know, as there is like, you. Anti fashion. I'm into anti Ste. What do you mean anti Ste? So you just, you just Ste your tricks out, grabs as little as possible.
Grabs these touch. There are some STS and pre grabs out there, but I'm talking, I'm talking maximum, like rocket, like, but down a big set of stairs. Yeah. Because that's not easy to do, but like what, what is, what is anti [00:09:00] Steves? Oh, Shannon here. I am complaining about the noise and then I'm doing goodness, sorry, everyones.
You could like, think of like anti Ste is like, you could do it like no effort at all, but that's Ste exactly. Or you could do it with like heaps aggressive and people could think that's Ste that's. So, so you are talking about a subjective approach. It kind of is. I quite like that Toby?
Again, like I've got a whole bunch of random questions. Are you guys ready? Like, yeah. Do you feel a bit more warmed up now?
Like I'm ready. Are you nervous? Psyched up. I'm nervous. All right. This is just some random stuff that came into my head. Okay. What's one thing you like about your parents supportive. They've always supported me during whatever. Yeah. Well, they they're proud of me cause of all the stuff I've done. All the art shows like the art shows I've had the stuff I've done with photography and stuff. That's led me to this point. They're proud of me, dude. They should be. I'm proud of you. I don't even, you're not even my son.
I wish you were. If I had a son, I hope my son turns out like you , but maybe like, he'll be shorter cuz I'm short and his mum's shorter. [00:10:00] Short. Yeah. True then probably. I dunno, just shorter and I dunno, probably powerful. Won't have the same hair. Ain't got those curl. What about you guys? What's one thing you like about your parents?
Oh, you want me to get fit? Um, One thing I like about my parents. They're like, they've always been like real with me. Like they've always just like cut and dry. Yeah. Like always kept like, like if I need, if they needed to tell me something, if they need, if I needed to know something, they'd tell me. Okay.
And always, they'll just always strict. Fair. Wait, can I hop in for one second? Strict there? Wait, can I hop in? Hop in. Okay. The one thing that I love about my dad is he knows every single person I like, he'll be like, oh, like one of, like one of my mates, like, like, oh, he wants stuff. You a photography course.
And I'm like, how do you know him? He's like, oh, just like do uni or just like, oh, I met him at a bar 20 years ago. Like he just knows everyone. And it's just like, that's, what's so good about like my dad, cuz he like, like as much as like as [00:11:00] much he's pushed me to do stuff, half the stuff that I. like done is because of him, like, I'm the, like, he's the reason cuz he bought me a camera because like his mate is like, like owns like a camera shop or used to own a camera shop.
Yeah. And he bought that camera for me. And like he's always like supported me, but he's also always been pushing me as well. In what way? To just like post and like, not even like that, just to just do stuff in general with photography. That's cool. Yeah. He's always pushed me and my mom's always been supportive.
He's mama Jane. Oh, that's cool man. And so nice to hear these guys are slightly older than you like you're on that. You said you're seven in about to turn 18. Yeah. You know, traditionally, a lot of parents, when you're this age, you're like you're pushing, saying, go and get a, you need to get a job and you need to make your own way and you need, turn a living.
Like, are they doing that as well? Or are they actually encouraging you to follow your dream? Well, yeah, because as well as well, I said before, my dad knows everyone and he's like, he's like, he's like, he's like said to me the other day, he's like, Hey, I've got this guy. Who who's [00:12:00] like, who does work and like with photography and he does, he will offer you a, like a cert for on photography in business.
If you work with you. That's cool. Yeah. And then he was just like, yeah, by the way, also, you've got this other guy in Sydney who wants to work for you, like wants me to work for him. And that will be like fully paying. Yeah. In what realm though? What do you mean by that said this last time, what do you mean.
He he'll he'll work from him. What, in what realm? Like, you know, nine to five gig photography, like a gig photography. Okay. Gotcha. Yeah. Like, and he's always just like, he's always just found stuff. That's really helpful to me. Yeah. And he's always like recommended stuff cuz like he's in the business world as well.
Okay. Like with brewing and stuff. So like he's always he's he knows his, he knows his shit. Yeah. It's nice. And it's nice to know that like he wants to support your creativity in terms of like following your dream, because I think you only have, you know, you get to a certain age where, you know, you're gonna get pushed more and more to like want to, you know, like provide for yourself and be independent and things like that.[00:13:00]
I mean, that's where you guys are at. Like, do you feel like you're still chasing, chasing a dream? Um, yeah, of course. Like I've like, I always want something to look forward to. Yeah. Okay. Like I, I, yeah, I've always got something to look forward to. So like with me, I mean obviously my plans have changed since last time.
Yeah. Um, I wasn't working in the job that I am right now. Okay. And it's very, um, I work for, um, I work for FNA conveyors. We, um, work on conveyor belts in like, um, the steelworks, um, bunch of mines. We just, we got a job in, um, snowy, hydro. Yeah. Like, um, but, uh, it's very, um, a lot of long hours. Okay. A lot of long hours, like I need to be like fit for work.
So, um, skating is kind of like take, like I've like kind of had a bit of a break of skating. Okay. And I've kind of stopped from my, um, like ambition of just like wanting to skate, move to [00:14:00] Melbourne, like, and just like progress more. But I mean, I'm fine to work around it. Yeah. Okay. Like, but, um, I mean, right now the Dr, like the, a dream you'd say is like, Because my money is a very, fairly paying job.
Okay. So make a bunch of money. Um, get a lot of good tickets under my belt. Like a lot of experience. And then just, hopefully just skate more. Like what's your and say, I'm gonna ask Jonie this first, like at, like, at your age, at the moment. So how old are you? 19? I'm 18. 18. I'm 19. You're 19. Like, what's your major concern in life right now?
What are you most worried about? Probably for me, just like being stuck in the same spot, doing the same thing every day. Like, I don't want to be stuck in this spot. Just getting up, doing the same thing long gone bubble. Yeah. Just like the Wollongong bubble stuck in the Wollongong bubble. [00:15:00] I'd always like wanna move somewhere, travel around, do my own thing.
Yeah. Sweet. Okay. What about you? What, what's your major concern in life at the moment? My major concern and I reckon this, this has been my concern and this will always been my concern. is to be that one gong skater that people look at and go, damn, why'd he quit? Right. I don't wanna be that. Don't be that guy.
So many people. Interesting. Darcy Corbett is one of one that, especially because people think I skate like him, I don't he's switch he in a 10, never. Um, but yeah, I just don't wanna be that guy that people look at, like, like, because I look at people and like, damn, they were so good. Like R Lawson is a great example as well as a good friend of mine.
And, um, he was. Gonna be like a top pro like, um, had some really good sponsors under his belt and then just stopped because of work. And that's pretty much my concern. Okay. No, it's cool. No, it's really interesting. I, I'm just curious and you know, I'm [00:16:00] just, I sort of keep thinking like the, the angle I'm sort of coming from with these questions is kind of like, if you were to reflect on this interview in like 5, 10, 15 years time, I think it might be interesting to hear back, you know?
Like, so that's sort of why I'm asking now I got some, some other questions now, this one, do you guys know Tim koan? That's skater from long Kong? Is he a bit older of, of course. Yeah. He's rad. I love him. Yeah. Who do you reckons older? Me or Tim? Tim. Tim dude. I'm older than that guy. Really? I know I was gonna say you, but everyone jumped in Tim.
Oh, but you're too young. Thanks. Don't look a day over, dude. Thanks 12 years old, but Tim's gotta get, I was wondering what you were gonna say there. Tim's gotta get shit together. Anyways. He looks too old, you know but listen, he, he question was like his question. Do you guys ever shave your bum fluff and then stick it around your genitals to look like pubes no, that question I do that every day.
No, no, [00:17:00] no. That's I thought that was standard procedure. No, I can't believe you said that. I love that question. Good. No comment. I can't wait, what, what a, that's a bit of a crazy question. It's just an honest question. Yeah. Move next one. Well, the man knows what he wants. Applying with that Marlin that he, that you, that you could want a more, um, that they need to grow up a more prominent, um, feature of masculinity.
Maybe we should ask this to the artist in artist in no, don't even joke about this. The question. Come on, man. The question, the answer is no for me at least. Okay. Yeah. I didn't think so. I can't believe you asked that question. You creepy? I love it. Yes. For me. Anyway, have any okays, another question. Have any of you guys ever seen Joey lions skate?
I RL. Yes. Yes. Saw him. I saw him do a Nolly kick flip right here. Rolling. No, that doesn't count. No with bored. It was with a board with no trucks. Yeah. It was just a dance doesn't count. I've seen him actually. You know what? [00:18:00] I've seen him switch hard. Flip my board three times in a row, first try. But he was holding onto the desk.
He hold onto the deck because like why, why is he doing that? Like, he's, he's an old man needs a walking stick. I, I was actually talking to Joey today. He says he doesn't like skating around other people. Yeah. Cause he's not as good. Yeah. He likes skating by himself. Like, do you think that's like, why? Why though?
In maybe I think maybe cause of expectation. Yeah. I think maybe people like look up to him. Mm. Ever since he release, maybe he is just, he's been turning off. He wants to just cruise around by himself. Yeah. I'm saying he doesn't. Yeah. Okay. So what were you saying will ever since he released still city he's kind of fed off well, no, I was just joking.
Joking. I'm joking. Do you know how long ago still sitting my mate? I can't talk. I can't talk. Were you even born? No. It's interesting. No, Joe is too busy trainer for the UCI, but I thought such SLS actually. How do you guys feel about that? UCI bike race coming to [00:19:00] Wollongong, man. Ah, dude, I got anxiety about it.
It's all thumbs down. Yeah, because you know, like it's why everything's closed. You cannot park anywhere. You cannot get trains in. Yeah. You can like, um, what was it like Mount Kira roads closed off. Let let this man he's he's investigated this. Okay. Give us the rundown on the, well, actually get into the camera will get into the camera.
Wait. That's alright. My main concern with the whole thing is the south coast roads close for up to like 10 hours at a time. And it's one way traffic, the whole way. There's people that are gonna be living out at coal cliff that have no way to get in or out to their house. They won't be able to access their car cuz your car has to be parked outside of the actual event.
So there's people around there, like those areas along the, um, coast road that won't be able to get in or out of their houses. Mm, like, and people that live in a, um, sorry, coal cliff. Yeah. They're gonna have to be like park in their car. Like, does anyone have concerns about the abundance of middle aged men in Lyra [00:20:00] though?
Yes. That's a nice, what do you mean? Dun dun do you, I heaps into that. Dun dun has a Doune has a really nice picture up in the mall at the moment of him with his bike out the front of goodies in case you guys didn't know you should. He's the only one that makes it look cool. I reckon. Yeah, he's got some style.
My dad used to rode bike and then, um, one of rode bike, whatever. Fuck is English, whatever you call. Um, like, and then one of his, like mates was just, as I said, he knows fucking everyone. Um, one of his mates just gave him mountain bike and then yeah, since then he hasn't touched it. That's fucking thing.
Thank. isn't touched to the fucking what's that called again? Is a road bike or? Yeah. Am I right? Yeah, I'm a road bike. Okay. I wanna see Joey and Lara. It's a good look. That'd be great. Should we? That's so good. He would suit it. He would suit it. I could see. Do you know how they, they do that thing where they unzip it at the front?
I could totally see. Yeah, I could totally see Joey doing that. We like speed. Like where, where the sunglasses, the sweaty chest hair popping out micro. How do we, you get that? How do you reckon we could make that happen? He would be [00:21:00] wearing these, not like it could enough money, like it go fun enough red wine and like spaghetti.
He would be wearing them happy hour and whatever Joey does speed dealers. And then he would probably put it on his Instagram, like road bike today. I'm gonna citizen with, with the, yeah, with the, with like very filter at two. AM's love Joey though. Yeah. The who I am most are the best. Yeah. Where you just like who?
I Kebas are like Kebas people owe me. Oh, wait. Other way around people that owe me Kebas and it's just like list. It's a massive list. Kebas that owe me. Yeah. At Omar lad. Do you guys ever have Burack oh, massive loves that stuff. Very good. Yeah, man. Brenda eats things. That'll get Joey and some light. Like he just, no render, just doesn't eat chocolate milk.
He eats all he has is chalk milk. I did hear that render was trying to orientate his living position in Melbourne over where had Oak chocolate milk as it being full cream versus moved chocolate milk being light cream. I mean, light [00:22:00] milk. He was mad. Interesting. No, he just wanted to figure out. It's like I would rather live here because they sell Oak where I wouldn't wanna live here because they only sell move, which I think is a really legitimate way of living.
Okay. Interesting. Yeah. I'm just curious. Um, but I think we could get Joey in Lira. If we promised to buy him like a year's worth of Burack, there is, um, or Kebas in Cilla there's a B shop it's called, um, yeah. Calendar. Can you take those things off now? PC? Yeah, no, these are staying on. Keep going. Um, they suit.
Yeah, but if I'm working at the workshop and it's like a, it's like a slow day, um, Me, my mate, like I just look at my mate and go, what do you B reckon? And then we, we it's on what do you boo reckon? I, I see what we did there. Spinach meat and cheese. it's the best. Do you get the garlic, salt and chili as well?
Extra, extra. It makes it a hundred extra chili. Does it make it better? Yeah. Does it make it a hundred percent butter? 200. [00:23:00] Okay. Let's just, I got another question. This is, so come on. What's that will, this is pain. If you had extra chili bear, like, ah, it's good for you. The 3:00 AM hitting different. All right.
So listen, um, next question. Do you guys think you'll still be skating in 20 years time? Yes. Yeah. Tough one. Why is that tough one? Cause like you don't know what you expect. I'm I'm already getting sore. I skate a, like a set of stairs all day. Then the next day, I'm just can't even walk. It's the best part of it, mate.
All I'm saying is you dunno, what's happening in the future and you can never expect what's gonna happen next. Thanks will. So one minute you could be skating next minute truck. Oh wait. Never mind. the Jonah special. Thanks for bringing that up. Will, um, got a question about, so Jonah Shannon. Tell us about the time that you got hit by a bus again.
And I, again, just because I want to cross, cross reference and make sure the [00:24:00] story's legit and you're telling it right. And then I'm gonna ask you again in five years, 10 years, and then if, and see if the story stays the same or unless you change it, let's go it's photo proof. I feel bad. Cuz last time I didn't mention netball was a, they did.
I don't. Okay. Well I didn't didn't so shout out to Matt ball. Yeah. Matt ball. So right up. So you lied the first time. Not I didn I just forgot Jonah. Can't you anyway. So tell us there's a, there was a fair few people. So what, what happened again? Tell everyone just for, just for the record. So you were skating.
I've actually got the VI, not the video. Could I show the camera? No. Just tell this story. You've gotta be descriptives hard. You gotta create a, well, I was skating this spot. People might know. It's like alleged on a tram stop. Yeah. And I was going over gutted to fakey. Yeah. Okay. And then a truck was coming behind me when I was going the same way as a truck.
And I did the trick over and the truck just wiped me out. That sounds different to the last time. Say [00:25:00] that last time. It's just in different words. No, I do say that last time you said you were a man of your word, Jon. So she says it was that's to that's. Toby's the man of his, I don't know, Toby. Is he telling the truth or is he lying?
Because I've actually, I actually listened to our first episode. Yeah. Recently. Okay. And it's the same, it's the same thing, but just, he just worded it different. Oh, he can. Doesn't summarize. Toby's got my back. I got you. Toby's a real one. Has it? He's I like you, Shannon. I'm not having puts you on his podcast.
Have you got like residual? Like, has there been any like long term effects from it though? You feeling? No, I've got like, I've had this scar in my hand for ages. Like I was skating and I always fell on it the same hand. Okay. But it's kind of going away now still. There's like, he's you see a bump there actually.
Yeah. Too. A bit of calcification, but that was like ripped open when it happened. Yeah. I had like a tire mark on my leg. Okay. Like, so the actual wheel, oh, you bounced [00:26:00] off the wheel though. You didn't didn't get under, uh, I don't, I was close to going under okay. Like crawled myself from going under it. Oh dude.
Yeah. I feel like actually, man, that's terrifying. I'm so glad you're here. Thank God for that. Sorry. Can I tell my side of this story? Yeah, no. So I, so I was in bong at the time I was filming my ENDR for pack lunch two, which I said was coming out, but it's still coming out, but okay. Because like our when's it coming out?
I dunno. Okay. Couldn't tell you. But Toby gets ask questions when I get clip. Come on, Toby. Um, Toby's lacking. He's slacking. Isn't he? I've, I've got a bun shoulder work and I'm working right. Our work alone. Leave me alone now working loud. But, um, so. I always, I kept in touch with Jonah. Um, like while he was in Melbourne, I didn't.
And um, I got a Snapchat from him and it was just, um, oh, I've got so to tell you, after I get outta hospital, that's it didn't respond. I thought this kid was dead. I like, I don't know. I thought he just, I thought he [00:27:00] smacked his, I cracked his head open or something. I don't know what happened. Sorry. I keep moving.
I'm trying to look at you. That's fine. No, no, that's fine. But, um, you're doing good, but, um, yeah, he just didn't respond for like two hours. And then, um, I called him, I, I called, I called everyone in Melbourne. I called I called Brandon tire render Matt. Um, and then finally, for some reason render answers and it goes, oh man, it's, it's crazy, bro.
It's so crazy. I'm like, bro, just tell me what ha I still had no idea. I was like, please just tell me what happened. He goes, yeah, trying to go hit by a bus. And I was like, oh, was a truck, a truck. He got hit by a truck. and then, whoa, whoa, whoa, whoa. You said bus last time? No, I didn't just, I heard it was a semitrailer.
I missed one thing. Last time I heard it was tee. It still gets better. So when it happened, I like sat down on the curb and I, I was shaking so much and I just remember. [00:28:00] Yeah, I just, I just remember hat Matt handing me a cigarette, but I couldn't smoke it cause I was just shaking I couldn't my breathing pattern was just, that's what they all say.
Yeah. That's what they all say. You were in shock. Yeah, there was this old guy that was really nice to me and helped me out. He called an ambulance. Keep going. Randall was just came down to the shop to get a chalk of milk. Nah, that's not true. That's not true. he probably was. He probably was on his way maybe wouldn't and it was like, oh, oh fuck.
Oh, oh fuck Jonah got hit by a truck. No, he can't do that. Hard flip down pack. No. I got it first. No, this is fun. This is interesting. I've got some other random questions. All right. So, um, okay, well, thanks for telling that story again and yeah. Let's see if you can, if you let's see if you can tell the truth next time.
oh, it actually never happened. It's all conspiracy theory. I love you, Jonah. Listen about I do. I think you're a legend. I love how you skate and all that, but tell us about the new tattoo. [00:29:00] What happened? Where'd you get it? Which one? The one you got on your chest. Oh yeah. Um, when's that, when that news that I got that two days ago.
Congrats, man. Yeah. What prompt? What prompted it? What inspired it? Um, wait, can I jump in? Did you get it yesterday? You, we were in the car together and you're like, oh, look at the tattoo I just got. And then you showed me. Was that yesterday? That was yesterday. Oh, yesterday then. Sorry. that's right, dude.
That's right. When did you get it? Like, so what, like what prompted it? Like why'd you wanna get it? Just it? Um, I just like the style of the tattoos, you know? Yeah. I know. It's not that unique, but that's cool. Yeah. I don't know. It's so it's not, I like, I wanna get unique tattoos, like some of my ones, I don't know.
Yeah. Try to make 'em more unique's D to you, you guys are chat. I know. Just you guys have tatted up a little bit. Is this something you want pursue more? Both of you like? Yeah, for sure. I've got my, um, parents' birthdays on my arms. Nice. Where'd you get that? It's nice. Yesterday. Yesterday. Oh. [00:30:00] Did you been in this?
You've been in this, in this, all I'm saying is if my mum listens to this, all I'm getting is mum in the love heart, cuz she's been want, she's been telling me to get that for like five years now. that's so sweet. It's an OG. Would you do that? Yeah, I think I'd almost, I always say no, but like, oh, I think about it.
Like actually that's kind of cool dude. Like it's cool. Mum's are the big, all the tough clients have, have that. Tough cut. That's exactly right. Yeah. Tough. What? Sorry. Tough. Who you said first? Oh my God. Tough guys. That's right. Yeah. Good man. We have learnt. Yeah. How good are mums? No. C words. No, I it's funny.
I was here earlier, earlier setting up and I forget who it was and I talked to their mom on the phone. Oh. And they said, bye you're right there. Yeah. They said, bye, mom, love you. And I was like, dude, respect because I know. At, if I was at your age, man, I would've been like, oh, trying to be cool. And I'd never do that in front of my mates, but I just think it's rad that you did it cuz say, well done, cuz mums are the best.
So she shout up Brandy boys, shout out to other mums. If you're out there and you're listening, hit me up. We love your mums. Yeah, mum's cool. [00:31:00] Okay. I got a bit of a skate question. A bit of skate trivia. All right. Now this is for you three guys. Alright. So whoever gets it first gets dun dun we'll play some music, all.
It's not Marlin's trivia corner. Sorry. Marlin. Do you want, do you wanna do trivia? Yeah. Why don't you give him the, give him the phone trivia. Give him the phone. You want me to? You want me to read it upon the questions? No. So whichever one of you three, get this question. You get the trait and tht carry lab.
T-shirt by Kane hospital street artist, the street artist known as trade. He's. Just an epic artist has done a lot of murals around, uh, Wollongong and also various parts of Australia. I love him and he just the best bloke and he's been skating for about 30 years and he still rips. And couldn't ask for a better dude.
So he's the question. Are you ready? So this is for will Toby and Jonah. All right. So what [00:32:00] are in terms of skateboarding? What are copes. They can answer that up. That's a COPPA, even Marlin doesn't know. And I guarantee any, all the old skate crew, anyone that started skating in the late eighties, early nineties will know what this is.
Co what is a cop? I'm anyone? Could you spell it for us please? C O P E R. Can you use it in sentence? It's in a it's it's for a skateboard. It's used on a, it was used on a skateboard. What is a cop? Ooh. Oh, wait, is that the, is that the wait? Is that the things that like, um, wait, wait, wait, gimme a second.
Gimme a second. Okay. Is that the stuff that like people used to put in their towels as like a tail guard and like the nose guard that's incorrect, but you're on the rock. Ah, so it is, is a guard. Is it guard grip take, grab, or I think I might know what it is. Is it like a, a thing that goes like around like here and it stops your board from getting chips, getting closer up it, you both right?
Shouldn't that make you not like your group tape? [00:33:00] Not that's you're showing me a truck. B that's just a truck. Don't Google it. You fucking make it just says copper aluminum don't show aluminum. That's one, anything so typical, like, like someone just Googles it. No, come on. Does anyone know you? You were getting close.
That's not right. It says it's an alcoholic beer. That's a, well, you know what that's no, no, no. Okay. The Google definition states it as someone who deals horses.
Oh, shit word. What is it? What is it? What does that mean? In British means means a police officer in Bri, uh, in British it's like copper, a copper. This is, this is why you dealer trust what's on the internet. Oh, man, just the co you know what? All right, so you'll have to reveal this one. Gonna have to throw it to the crowd and whoever gets it in the crowd in the purple be whoever gets it in the crowd, they Googled it.
They Googled it. Why don't we get, they Googled it. They Googled it. These guys [00:34:00] Googled it, but I know this is it like a rail for your trucks? Incorrect. You wanna have a go given the mic? What is it? Protect your bearings. No, no incorrect. It's not to protect your bearings. It's to make your grinds a bit easier.
I've actually only heard of it. Heard about this one time in my life. Yeah, they go over your trucks. Uh, yes. Oh yeah. Go over your trucks. Yes, they do go over your shirt. I don't know how to make them, but I don't know. Can you buy them? Yeah, you should. I don't know. I tell you what, like you used to be able to buy 'em.
If anyone can buy em, now that'd be like a vintage item and you'd probably play a lot, but your dad has them, your dad to make your grinds smoother and faster. How, how. Well, it's the, it's the same way that a rail, you know how you put rails on your board to make your board size easier? Yes. It's the same sort of way material.
Material.
Yeah. Ricky, what's the made out and the winner plastic. I plastic boys. I'm really sorry. Like I wanted to give one of you guys a tip. I'm gonna have [00:35:00] to give the t-shirt to Rick Ricardo.
Actually. You know what I'm I'm gonna say this. There it is. I didn't get my t-shirt from last time it's been sent in the mail. I didn't promise you a t-shirt from last time. Did you want one? Because you didn't, you didn't have one. You didn't have one here. Did I? Oh, I know you did, but it was like a medium 10 pushups, please for a t-shirt.
Did I say, do I have a quick question? Shannon? How are you gonna describe this interview in the, in the comments? Because it's quite chaotic so far. Oh, I won't lie. Now this might be one of the hardest podcasts ever. like we've, we've gone from like horse dealers. So Jonah, like, no, it's good doing Jonah. I just want, I just want you and like, do you, do you love your parents, dude?
Don't do I? Well, yeah, no ones. You, the questions. That's a hard it's. Let me ask you a question. So can I, can I just say, I just want you guys to be yourselves and it's annoying as fuck, but well done. I like it. And I'm happy. Can I ask you one question? Go, man, you ask, how are you go? [00:36:00] How are you? I'm good.
Thank you, brother. Shit. I don't like being asked questions. I ask the questions. That's why I started podcast. I am the one who asks thanks for asking will. You're a good man. Thank you. It's an important, there's a level of maturity about your will that I, I like about your, I just, I think it just comes with the narrator voice.
Yeah. Brad. Yeah. So, Hey, here's a question, right? And, and I'll shout this out to the crowd as well. The crowd you guys. Yeah, our live audience. Quick question. So like, what do you guys listen to podcasts? Yes. And I know you're about to ask, do you listen to mine? Cause I no, no, no, no, no. But like what other, like what, what podcast do you listen to?
Like give, gimme, I'll be honest with you. Is what Joe Rogan, Joe Rogan, Joe Rogan. It's so funny. I'm gonna, I love it. So, so interesting. Give me another one. I'm gonna put this out here. Oh, I was the first person to notice that these mics are what Joe Rogan uses. They are. Thank you. And I, I appreciated that.
They're called the sure. SM 78. So thank you. Damn straight. I also there's one. [00:37:00] I tackling, I don't listen to it, but my mum does. It's called mum, me out loud. Okay. That shit goes off. Okay. That shit goes off. Yeah, no, it's like you it's just like three mums talking and like, they're just talking about whatever you like that.
Yeah. It's actually kind of cool. They mean, I think they only go for like 30. I'm trying really, really hard not to make a mul joke here, man. go for it. Go for it. Be yourself. I mean, if you wanna deal with that, if you wanna deal with that, controversy yourself, if you wanna deal with that controversy, it's, it's your problem.
So the problem I've got it's, it's the problem I've got mentally. I feel like you guys, but I know that I'm older and I have to be mature and, and I've got responsibilities and shit. So you're saying your mental age is young. I don't know. Which is a good thing, which is a good thing, but no, but that can be creepy as well.
Like why is that old audible thumbs down these young, ah, like you Shannon. No, I'm just kidding. But you get old cuz you decide. The reason I asked is like, cuz there's I found this rad podcast who's ever heard of kill Tony. No, I haven't. Oh man, kill Tony. Look it up on YouTube. It's it's probably like my favorite podcast ever.
So I [00:38:00] don't know why I'm plugging it, but I'm plugging it. It's amazing. Also, I didn't mention what podcast I listen to with love. Oh, no. Yeah. I love to hear, I mean, I love, um, terrible happy talks as obviously. Thank you, sir. I shout out. Thank you. Um, Joe Rogan love, um, I kind of just like picked just people that like, I think I'd like he's celebrities.
Yes. Okay. But also it's um, called the basement yard. Okay. What's that about? It's like a, it's like a comedy podcast type of thing. Okay. It's this guy, Joe Santa Garo. Yeah. Um, he's he he's really, really. um, and he is, got his best friend on there. Name's Frankie. Mm. But they, they just talk absolute nonsense.
Like it's just bullshit, but it's all just, it's just hilarious. Okay, cool. So, yeah, that's why I like kill Tony. So it's like, they've got a panel of comedians, Joe Rogan, sometimes one of the, one of the guests, and then they get a random say random from the crowd. Like they picked one of you guys and they got, they get up and they've got one minute of standup comedy and then the other comedians just roast them [00:39:00] for 10 minutes after that.
It's the best. That's hilarious going. That sounds amazing. But listen, I've got another question from Tim Conan. Alright. And his question is what is the, what is the correct time of day to go skating? 4:00 AM whoa, anytime, anytime I reckon, anytime I reckon in the, you can skate in the morning. I can skate in the morning.
I do love a good over. Trip. Yeah. Overnights are fun. I mean, in terms, overnights a day in, when do you skate? What's your favorite time of day to skate? I, well, if I go skating in the morning, I can't skate. See bro. Like I have to wait till two, two o'clock maybe. Okay. Till I'm actually warmed up, warmed up.
Okay. That's interesting. It's interesting. No shining is before like come what's McCoy, like for an example, like we, me Jonah, Toby of our good mates rush went up to Canberra. And um, in early in the morning we like left at like eight got up there. And I think we, we did not touch a single [00:40:00] thing until around like three, three o'clock and most stuff that was done was like one rail.
No, not even like a Manny. And that was it. And that was the whole thing that was about it. Actually the other week I went to Sydney with re to get, um, to film and the first spot I hit, it was like 11:00 AM, was a central rail, the gap over the rail. And I was trying and I was feeling fine actually, so. Okay.
No, that's interesting. It kind of, it kind of depends like what you're feeling. It was like, if you want like a good morning skate, like to like skate throughout the day. I reckon in my head, it's like, it's like 10:00 AM. There's like you get out. It's like, you feel warm, probably get some to eat. Yeah. And then by like 11, 12, it's just like middle of the day.
But it's like, I hate that awkward hour. It's like stunned get dark. And it's like, I hate that. Well, you remember when we, um, we went, we went for that morning skate. That was really good. Yeah. We went to we, me and Toby when I first got my fish high. [00:41:00] We went and just like skated feds at like 7:00 AM. It was in COVID like I had classes the morning.
I didn't go to him, but like had CLA like, whoa, whoa, whoa. It was, it was math. I'm it's okay. It's not, absconds good drew in something. No, I, I did, I did it. I did all the work. I did all the work. I, I don't have any more at sometimes Marlin. Absconding is like, when you like run away from it's called wagging prison and stuff.
no, that that's work. They're wagging truing. Wagging. Do your parents know you Truet? Yeah. During COVID because I used to just, I used to not, so I used to, so basically what my daily routine used to be was get up, um, like, like just do nothing for like the whole day kind of, and then just pump out the work of the night.
Okay. That was your COVID routine. Yeah. Did you like it better than actually going to school as normal? Yeah. Cause I like dealing with stuff with like the last minute. Okay. It's way better. Like I actually get it done and got it. Like done. Good. Cool. Yeah. I don't know. Like, I think there's a lot of benefits to COVID in that respect in terms of, and also, I just want to mention, I'm not very much a skater.
I [00:42:00] reckon cuz as a filming perspective and taking photos perspective, the kind of best time I reckon for filming and taking photos is around at three o'clock why three, three, like 3:00 PM. Because like, sounds like kind of going down, it's like kind of, it's still warm. Like, you know, you, you're still waiting on like, like it's still like a dead limit as well.
That's a good thing cuz like people wanna get that trick done. Gotcha. Which is a good thing. And then it's another thing as well. It's just like, it's just so bright and warm cuz usually like sun, like sun climbing goes down, you know what I mean? Like gotcha. You know, it's just like, everything looks nice.
It's all nice. Like I can like everything's open so I can like go get a, like I can just go do anything. Like that's like the kind of good ands also like cafes close and a lot of spots are cafes and like all that stuff. Yeah. So that's when they close. Yeah. Yeah. Cool. Okay. No good. And that's also also that's my three.
PM's my favorite cuz that's when Jonah finishes work. Most times, and then I I'm on the dot. Yeah. Well, not usually, but, well, actually it depends how quickly I close. Yeah. It's usually, which [00:43:00] is pretty fast. Yeah. Like three 15. I'm a fast, closer three, 15 and 52 seconds. What's it like growing up in a family where you own a cafe?
I actually like, it it's like it's long hours to, I feel like, um, when I was a kid, I was heap shy. Like it's really got me, like out of what's the word comfort zone out of the comfort zone, like talking to people. Yeah. And, and everything like that. No, that's cool. Yeah. Like in, was it as a little kid, like, you know, going to the cafe and stuff, like, you know, did you cuz it's a busy cafe it's oh yes.
Busy. It's it's awesome. Like would it be cool? Um, being able to go in and just get food and stuff for free. um, what did your parents make? Yeah. As a no, no. Make you pay for it. all the dishes. All I'm saying is I have like mad, like mad respect for you working with your family. Cuz I've always like lived by this quote and it says don't shit in your own backyard.
yeah. No, [00:44:00] if you think about it, it's actually true. Don't work for your family. Don't don't work like, or don't do anything that's like related to money with your family, but you've actually made like, it's gone like amazing. And like you've got something out of it. You've gotta home. No job, basically going back to that question.
Shannon. That is one thing I'm I love about my parents are they really supported me and like helped me with my money cuz I left school early. Yeah. Cause they, uh, I didn't want to go to uni cuz I'm not like that smart. Well, it's not bad. It's no, you don't wanna go to uni because it's not for you. Yeah.
Well everyone to go to uni, you haven't found your field. Yeah, I didn't. Um, I didn't want to be stuck doing a trade. So I just left. So I was working full time and they really helped me save my money. Yeah. Oh, that's cool. Also, I have to say a cafe job for you is such a perfect job. I could not imagine you waking up at six.
Well, you already do wake up really early, but I could not imagine you waking up putting on work boots and going out and getting in [00:45:00] your car and driving some spot and like working and like doing trades, doing my job pretty much. Yeah. Doing Toby, like Toby, like Toby can be a tradesman sometimes, but like I, no, I'm joking.
I reckon, I reckon it's just trade. I reckon like baristing like brewing is such a perfect job for you because you're like, you're so good at it as well. So I's I do. I do love coffee as well. Yeah. Yeah. Red bulls. No, it's good. Like, yeah. And then I think we'll hit the nail on the head there. Like everyone's got their own path in their own direction and also you tap into what your interest and your skill sets are and you follow those things.
And you've also found out what you're good in and just skateboarding and brewing and. Good homies with everyone. So that's all I'm saying. Aw, what, what a great friend. just going back to the, going back to the money thing. You said, like you don't like to, you know, shit in your own backyard and stuff and, and like get involved with money with your family stuff.
Do you ever borrow money off your parents? Oh, fuck yard. Do I didn't like I used to work at Macers. I quit [00:46:00] that. Cuz I work six. I work six siren. No, no, no. It's just curious. No, like, like my mom's my mom and dad have always supported. Yeah. My mom and dad's always supported me. Like when you're like, like what, when did I work at Macers?
I, I used to work at Macers and I did, I used to, I did a six hour shift on Christmas. Only got a hundred dollars, no break. And after that I quit the job. And then so basically ever since then, like basically for two year, like a year or two, like my mom and dad had supported me through. Phase. I was like trying to get me to your job.
And that's when I finally pulled my head in and finally got a job. Yeah. And I can see what they're trying to doing, which is great. Yeah. And like getting them, like letting me borrow some of their money was like, honestly, like, that's what they're there for too. That's what they're there for. Like, that's what your parents are there for.
They're always there for you. Yeah. A hundred percent like, yeah. Yeah. And I'm not saying it's a bad thing. Like, I'm just sort of just curious, like, I mean, I did it, I still, you know, I don't know. Sorry. I don't do it anymore. but I know like, I just, it's what I think too, like your parents, [00:47:00] they work hard for you and they, yeah.
It's, it's actually, I also know plenty of stories that I've heard, like through other people's where the person's still, the person's still borrowing money off their parents, but like still knew like a healthy way. Not just like, oh, can I borrow 20? Like, can I borrow like two grand every weekend? No, like, it's just like, can you like, can you help me out here?
And that's. That's what people need is need. They need a helping hand and that's what parents support and do some people don't have that too. So, oh yeah. Yeah. That's the bad thing is because like not a lot of people have that moral, like moral support, not, is it moral support? It, it can be a form. Yeah.
They don't have their moral support and they don't have the support and their needs. They need like they, they need and want. Yeah. So like it's quite bad, but like, no, that's good point. It's it's a good point. Like I see where you're going with that and yeah. Yeah. I don't know. Oh, look at home home. He left his t-shirt down there.
Dis bad. He left. I just, my parents would lend me money because they wanted me to eat lots of food. [00:48:00] Because when you eat lots of food, you're usually full and happy and they just want you to be happy. So Mylan's always a happy place. So that was that. That was a function for them to gimme money. Cuz they knew I loved like going out for a eggs Benedict, say at Lee and me.
Really, you know, so Benny. Yeah. I mean, I would do plenty of dishes and vacuuming and mopping for that, for that. Yeah. He worked for it for that takeaway food money though. It was a good exchange. Yeah. So you can find a dynamic where it functions beautifully. Yeah. Interesting. And not abusing it and be like, Hey mom, can I borrow $50 Don?
For my, yeah. Hey mom, can I borrow $50 to go to the movies, by the way, I'm not going to the movies. . Have you ever had that conversation? Have you ever done that? Uh, no, actually that's good. I think I've, I think I've borrowed. I borrowed money off mom that I said I was gonna use it for something. Cause I didn't use it for that thing.
so what, what I used to do, honest, what, what I used to do is I, I never, when I was [00:49:00] younger, I really never really asked for money. I hated it. I just, I just hated bringing that up. Just being like, okay, can I. Have like actually yeah, no, no, daddy is true. I hate it. So I hate, hate, I hate borrowing stuff for people and having to use people.
So what I, what used to happen is like, I used to like weekly, used to ask dad like, Hey, can I borrow like 20 bucks? Like 10 bucks? Yeah. Just a week. So what ended up happen? And he just used to send me $20 every week. And like that got to the like, and that helped me a lot. Cuz like if I was out during skating and I had no money, but oh dad sent me $20, like, oh, I'll go get like a feed or something eggs Benedict me and me go get a KFC go bucket.
No, you don't need something more sustaining. Yeah. Bolt. What I used to do is um, cuz my brother, cuz me and my brother shared a room when at our old house in FIIG tree, we used to share a room and he would come back from a night out and he'd have like, like, you know, you [00:50:00] go out and like you're using cash and you end up with a bunch of coins.
Gotcha. Gotcha. He would just sit his coins on his, on his cupboard. I'd wake up, just raid it and then just go skate. I'd just raid all of his coins really. And, um, I would also clean my brother's car and he goes, you clean my car, whatever money you find, you keep really, unless it's, if it's over $20, you can't keep it.
Okay. But that was great as well. Oh, that's pretty cool of him. Yeah. Nice of him even. And also I buy you a lot of stuff too. Well, yeah, I know you like a brother. You're like a brother to, you're close with your brother. Love your Bo Morgans too. Me. Um, I, I work with my brother. Okay. And that's the, the best thing ever.
I, I reckon it's the greatest thing ever welcome with my brother. Okay. Yeah. Me and my brother were, were very, very, very close. Even that he's moved. He's moved outta home now, but we're still in extremely close. Can tell by the tattoo tattoo. Oh yeah. I've got his name tattooed on my arm. That's so rad, man.
That's and I've got my sister. That's so sweet. My [00:51:00] cousin and. MF do so family means a lot to you? Yes. I've always had a very tight knit family. Okay. Like every, every big one as well. So like for if we just have like a, like, like your family comes over for dinner. Yeah. 20 people nice at my house. Yeah.
That's like, just like a small bit, like my family's massive. Yeah. And, um, yeah, everything, my whole life has just been like, family is everything. Family is like, we like, we always stay close and nice. So yeah. Oh man. It's really sweet to hear. It's awesome. Yeah. It's not everyone again. Not everyone has that.
So like, it is a special thing. So congrats, man. It's some stoked for you. Thank you. Hey, um, just, you know, sort of getting towards the end a little bit here, and I just wanna go around the room around the panel. Um, who are your favorite skaters right now in the. It can be anyone Australian. Excellent question.
An international, just again, moments in time. You know, it'd be interesting to look back on. So what do you, I'll start with [00:52:00] you, Jonah. Who's your current favorite skater? Um, tough question. I've always been a huge fan of eye shot. Yes, it's good. Good. Always like he's probably top my top, um, skater or time, but I actually really, you probably don't know him, but this, uh, skater name, I should forget his name.
oh, what's he look like? What's he look like? What's he look, come back. Who's he skate for? Um, he actually recently dropped a new part. Okay. But what, what is it a Melbourne dude? No, no, we'll come back to you. Is it come back to me? Is it Ricky Glazer? Oh, Andy, that's the one that's Andy Anderson. Andy Anderson, Aaron KIRO Anderson.
I swear to God. I. Um, um, what's his name? Um, Ricky glads I swear, I saw his brother at MAs. I swear. Interesting. He, he is full talking [00:53:00] about him and like him moving to America and doing all that stuff. A braille, whatever it is. Oh, I thought he's from Australia. Hey. Yeah. I completely forgot that. Like he has that really.
I like, he has a really insane clip at Chile where he does the click flips over the two wooden fuck. What's what are they? Just the bench, the bench, the, the benches. Yeah. He kick flips over them. Both of them at Chile towers in Sydney. That that's considerable. Yeah. It's interesting. What about you will is your who's who's a go-to favorite skater right now.
Who's Baro Baro Baro Bario, Bario, sorry. Yes, fuck up. Do you know a fun fact about Nick pres? no. Did you watch the Olympics? No. Or like a little bit, but comment commentator. He was a commentator. No. Oh really? Yeah. No, he's only, only recently just came my favorite skateboarder because I don't know. I just love how, um, I really fell in love with how he just enjoys every minute of it.
Like if you does legit videos, even when he count where he's just like, he's filming clip for his mate and he's just like laughing [00:54:00] so much. Cause he's just having fun. Yeah. And like, he just, he just seems like a really nice guy. Like I love his video. He banded this video part for OJ, for his, his wheels.
Yeah. As he bright orange soft wheels. And there's just like, it's just Nelly, like in the last clip, I think he does. Like, he just O these over this massive thing and just goes straight into grass. And then next minute he's like traveling through the whole of America. Wow. It's insane. Like, I love his skateboarding.
I love how he skates so fast. That's what I love about like his skating and like the dedicate, like, and it was he's, he's a Melbourne skate, like he's from Melbourne. Okay. Which is really good. Like he's like. Like you should see what his sponsors are like polar what's he on polar, Nike? Um, what's the other one?
I don't know. I don't know, but all I know doing polar and Nike and he is just, he's just amaz. He's just amazing too. Like, he's just having fun with it. You can tell. Yeah. Like you can tell he just really loves skateboarding. No, you know, that's the best part about man. I've got, I have to say my number one all time.
Favorite is Mark Johnson. Oh yes, man. Mario, you remind me Mark Johnson. I'm sure [00:55:00] I appreciate that. I'd like that, but give me, yeah. As a collective little crew, man, the alien workshop in quasi dudes, like Jake Johnson, Tyler Bledso, Gilbert Crockett, Bobby Deza, Bobby Deezer in particular is like, I remember his blue tile lounge part and it's got the Mac DeMar song, passing out pieces.
That part, he he's a younger there. And like, man, his control and power and style is just off the charts. Like I think he does a line in one of the newer Quai videos and I think it ends his part. And it's a, I don't know what the first trick is. It could be like. fakey, Oli back blunt to fakey. And then he does, um, backside, fakey, Oli switch, nose grind, front side, half cab flip out.
Yeah. Okay. He just does particular combinations that I do not see, and that are very like similar to mark SU how he contorts his body. Like, obviously Suu is amazing, but I love the flavor of those quasi and alien workshop dudes. Yeah. I think I like their Ste as well. You guys gonna ask me [00:56:00] also wait. No, no, no, wait, no.
Haven't can I put one thing and can I wait, wait, can I put one more thing in or wait, Nick. He is one of my favorite skaters, but my all time, favorite skater of all time is Evan Smith. He is so he's fucking good. And like, I like how the fact he just micro doses on everyth. To does he? Yeah, he, he micro doses on TRUS, um, for SLS.
Okay. Yeah. And he got caught apparently. I don't know. Okay. Yeah. Interesting. He enhancing, I just like it because he kind of looks like me got like the curly hair. Very likey tall. Yeah. You could say, yeah, I get it. He's gotta stop playing really tall. Well heard. He's like very handsome. Who is very favorite skate.
Did I ask you? He told me I should. No, that was sorry. I think Jonah, Joan said Ricky GLA I didn't, I didn't say what no. She said Marlon. Oh, I'll take that right. It's penciled in. There's no change in that answer, dude. Nah, jokes. No Lloyd Lloyd. My favorite. You're my favorite. Marlon. I appreciate that. No, Marlon's one of my favorite just cuz also he vibrant escape park.
It just brings it. It's the best, like just makes skating [00:57:00] fun. Uh, aside from the fact that you ripped too brother. Thank you bro. I'll take that. What about you, man? Let's go toes all time. Favorite. Pee without nine knew. Nice. I knew that he's pretty without, without question my time to pee rod. Yeah. He's kid.
Um, or wait, I've watched him. I've watched him skate since I was like, since I started skating was like nine. Yeah. Um, I had his like, right just before he met, like he got off plan B, like he's like, like the green one, like the green pro model I had. That was my first ever like, oh, besides the kingpin board.
That was my first ever like pro board. Is kingpin board. Your first ever board? No, I had a vision streetwear board. Whoa, you should ask everyone. Remember that? You should, you should ask everyone. You should ask everyone what their first board was. You you'll be interested in cheese. Like it was like a Kmart board, but it was like vision street wear.
Yeah, it was a purple one. And then, um, after that got a kingpin board and then, um, [00:58:00] like just like the OG yeah, normal kingpin board. And then, um, that P board, but recently. Yeah. My favorite skater has been his name's ha tour de silver. Yes. Okay. I was gonna say that actually. I was thinking if that was your, he just, he just won.
Um, not amazing. Okay. The prince of Copenhagen, the Copenhagen open. Oh, that's a good title. That's the prince of Copenhagen. He's so good. Okay. Princess Toby. No, they they're good. Who is? Who's your favorite skater? Thanks for asking. No, it's always gonna be guy Mariano, but then it's it's guy Mariano, Heath Kuchar, Andrew Reynolds.
They're the older ones. Kuchar Heath Kuhar man. But uh, in recent times, It is. I like Jamie Foy. Oh, nice. Just boy, boy. Did you see, you see the new video? Whoa, whoa, whoa. I'm not finished. Oh, okay. They, um, they call him big boy Foy, you know, cuz he doesn't look like he should be good at skating, but he is. He's amazing tone.
Well, he's kinda like of [00:59:00] round and I thought he was round. I love him. He's he's like quite toned actually. He's a full quarterback. He ever since king of the road, he just slimed down so hard. We don't want him to slim down though. We no, no, but like, but like on king of the road, like he was like, he was, he was chunky.
He was a bit chunky. It's powerful. But um, yeah, after king of the road he just like just got heaps. Toed. Yeah. He's trim down. I liked it. Betty. When he was big boy for you I'm with anyway, they might, they might, you know, no, you see the new video part of the new video he released. He went on on tour with Evan Smith, Jacko Grady.
Who else? Uh, Jacko Grady. He just went with a massive crew and he just like every, he just cook tool. Yeah. He just crooked every rail. Oh, did he? Yeah, he just every rail. Yeah. He just got that. Just switched crooks back, run back or front crook run. Well, he was signature. I was SAS. You where? Yeah, he front cooked the test front cooked El Toro.
First try. No, [01:00:00] no. Have you seen like Thra? I didn't know that first. Try Thrasher did the heed. It like heed it a million times. That's what I'm sussing out when I get home. And then he front cooked. He, um, he's got a, my war on it and he front cooked it first try. Yeah. That's our boy, my war a, my war for a first try trick.
Yeah, they do it. It's like an anti my war, my war. If that makes sense. They're like, it was supposed to be a war, but then it wasn't, but he's just too damn good. But he talked about the mental war that he went through leading up to. And then just did it. Like, it was pretty cool, man. Cause like, as, as a pro having to like, cuz he'd have to maybe say travel a considerable amount of time to get to that spot.
He's got all these people who are ready to photograph him, film him, document that for particular things that, you know, there's probably a bit of money involved. There would be an interesting pressure as a pro to perform at that kind of level. I've always wondered what kind of anxiety that would be like, you know, like, especially when they organize filmers, like they've told a film I'm gonna El to front crook it and they'll turn up and they've got like three or four [01:01:00] filmers there and they've all Papas.
They've all driven through LA traffic for two hours apparently. Yeah. Yeah. You know like pressure you hear about it. Anyway, listen, real quick. Let's keep this quick. Um, first ever skateboard go. Mine was a real complete nice from kingpin real complete from kingpin. Shout out from pin right behind me. The kingpin legacy far out.
Does you go, um, first proper skateboard? Yeah. Um, you, how oldest didn't you? Yeah, kingpin board. Um, what sort in trucks? Indie trucks. Yeah. When indie was good. Bad. Now ACE trucks, ACE trucks are the best now. Yeah. I had element bam wheels. Interesting bear Mar JIRA wheels. I had like, I had like bats and stuff on him.
Yeah. And, um, And just, I think just plain black group, crazy one, a power par Alto, Lance mountain Bonight board, um, with ING trucks that had cos on em and OJ wheels. God damn shout [01:02:00] out. Ki wooey ki wooey fucks are gonna hate me on this, but OJ park. Yeah. Yeah. Board. Someone's gonna, someone's gonna attack me.
Surf escape. Uh, alright. Uh, it's October, 2018. Revived just dropped a October like a Halloween thing. The Doug DESA tells Nu no TMB pro model. No Aaron carro pro model hu point a 0.25 with, I don't know the truck company. That's honest size and revive wheels. I love that board. I still have it. It's still my room.
Could you photo I've photo? Do you wanna see a photo of it? Could you potentially revive the wheels? Yeah, I've got, I've got a revive shirt as well. I gave this to my mate though, so I I'll find me a photo actually. Now I can back. Well, I actually had a, um, yeah. What do you have? I had a Tony Hawk, single kick Bon Aite with pink rails and a pink tailbone.
No way I got it from a garage sale in bull eye. No way. Yeah. That's classic. And I'll actually never forget that, but that was the first thing. And then I had a little fiberglass cruiser. Yeah. And then the first setup I ever got was off [01:03:00] eBay and it was like some weird pink board with a, with a girl and a pole dancing and it had yellow transparent software.
Okay. I'm not embarrassed anymore. That's flame. That's pretty freaking sweet, man. That's pretty fucking cool. Pretty freaking sweet, but as cool as my revive, Aaron carro, that is model 2018. I respect that. Well, it would be cool if it was Ricky Glazer. He wasn't on the team. He's still not on the team. He's on braille actually.
Mike brail. Yeah. Braille. I know myself. It's interesting. How you guys feeling ready to wrap it up? I got actually I got one more last question about vaping. So have you guys ever heard about passive smoking? Yes. Yes. Yes. Can you passive vape? Marlon? I dunno. Passive smoking went like, because there's all this vape cloud in here and I'm like, am I getting vaped out?
I'm trying so hard to like, is it like I've smoked the vape? Ask? What, what do you reckon? Ricky, Ricky giving the mic. Give that kid the mic. Uh, so with smoke, right? If you inhale smoke. Okay. Yeah, because of the way, [01:04:00] because of the, how different it is to vaporizing a liquid, right? When you, when you smoke something and then you exhale.
Yeah. Right. Passive smoking is still less is obviously not as bad as actually inhaling the cigarette right. With vaping it's even less. So, so with passive vaping, Because of the way cause of how quickly it dissipates. Yes. Because it's vapor, it's not actually like smoke fire alarms. No, actually it actually can't it for fire, fire alarms.
Yeah. The only way that they can detect it is armed by moisture detectors or something like that. Exactly. Vape detectors is because, because vapes are just, yeah, they actually installed them the other day at my school. Actually, most fire detectors actually detect carbon monoxide. Exactly. That is induced.
Exactly. Carbon monoxide is bike product. Anything that is incinerated. Right. And because vape like quote [01:05:00] unquote, vape, anything that's in like a vape is vaporized and is actually like, it's not it's no, there's no combustion that is involved in a vaporizer quote, unquote vaporizer. Right? There's no combustion, right.
It is just a straight. Oil that is being burnt, burnt and electrified to a point of which that it is reaches a gas point as a, as opposed to like a solid, that is reaching a particular temperature for which it is required to for Ricky man gets the, he's not done. He's not that wait, AO AO. No. Okay. So, so passive vaping, do you know?
That's actually, can't really, it's not a thing. It's not a thing. That's good. Of course. If you were to literally blow, exhale, your yes. Vape vapor into someone else's mouth. Yes. That would work. But sounds hard because of how quickly it dissipates. [01:06:00] It's not really. I like a vape jam, although to be said that isn't me advocating for vapes.
Cuz vapes sounds like you are. Oh no, no, no, no, no, no, no, no, no. In fi look, it took us 50 years to realize that cigarettes were bad for us. Right. It'll probably take us less than that to realize that vapes bad for us. Yes. Cause vapes, I'm not agreeing. I have heard have been around for a lot less than cigarettes have been around.
I like you, Ricky. We were smoking. I like you too. We need you on this. We were smoking cigarettes. What for the past a hundred years? Yes. Yeah. Were you more than that? 1920s? No, man. Yeah. I mean, they've been before that they were doing tobacco ceremony. Yeah. Tobacco tobacco, the, we first discovered that tobacco leaf could give us some sort of stimulant high.
This is tobacco when we were, this is so good. Having jewels with people with revolvers, right. Like shoot out smoking a D. Yeah, exactly, exactly. Like we even had chewing [01:07:00] tobacco cuz we thought if we chewed on it, it'd still be okay for us, which is not the case. Gotcha. But, but, but this is, but, but vapes have only been around.
We have only vaporized oils for like the past, probably 20, not even 20 years, not even less. I think it's. Exactly. Less than 10 years, right? Yeah. And if it took us 50 years to realize that tobacco was bad for us, for us to combust it and inhale it straight into our lungs liquid version, then it's probably gonna take us a lot less longer to realize that vapes are bad for us.
Apparently they're bad for theam that humans should be smarter and learn from their mistakes. It doesn't really happen. Humans should be smarter because the time that has taken us into until now, right. We, as years go by, we learn more and more, right? Yeah. Yes. We weren't learning as much as we are now. 30 years ago, 20 years ago, probably even 10 years [01:08:00] ago.
We weren't even learning as much as we are right now. Gotcha. Okay. This is good. Are you Indonesian background? Am I Indonesian for Indonesian background? What's your background? There's no way you actually guessed off the bat of your head. That I had a bit, bit of Indonesian in me. I do. I did. Um, I know stuff.
Cause you said, you know what you do, Don. I do have a little bit of Indonesian in me. Yes. Yeah. Cool. Thank you. Wait, wait, can I wait? Can I say Indonesia? Can I say quickly? There's there's so there is so many dumb people in this world that they think they're not, they're just not gonna listen to people like Rico who are smart and be like, if it's taken this long to not like to be, to think, oh fuck, like we're smoking something that's bad for us.
Yeah. Let's turn into a liquid and put in some like some little vape thing. And then it's like, oh, it's ice cream flavored. Like, come on. Yeah, listen. It's the same thing, but I'm gonna get a bit serious here. It's like, do you guys interrupt you? Yeah, go just to vape oil. Isn't a liquid. It's a [01:09:00] colloid. To coy.
It's the same thing. If you were to inhale a milk, milk is a coy. That sounds kind of nice. It's interesting. No, it doesn't sound kind of nice. If you were to vaporized full cream milk and inhale it, would you, would you feel like, okay about, that's pretty much what I do with a coffee. I'm not gonna lie. I'm not gonna lie for, I think the nicotine has a hole over me as much as it's got, it gets all probably 97% of the people that are in this room.
Right. Gets a lot of good men, man. But, and women saying that, I think that every time that you take a hit of your nicotine vaporizer, you aren't like. Yeah, yes, this is good for me. Like if you were doing yoga or if you were exercising, if you were skating even. Yeah. Right? Mm. You're not having this thought in the back of your head.
That's like, oh shit. I sh oh shoot. I shouldn't be doing this. Right. I can't believe you swore on this. Oh fuck. I should Lang not be doing you going so well, and then grated podcast, but. Listen, [01:10:00] thanks for the update on, on that. And it's really interesting, but I'm gonna get a little bit serious. Like we're sort of just talking about like, yeah, people should be smarter.
Humans should be smarter. Like, do you guys feel any sense of responsibility to actually make change in the world and, and be the difference and, and learn from the mistakes of your yes. Of your ancestors and I'm, you are nodding your head and I love that. Thank you. And what are you, how about you guys? I mean, of course.
Great. That's like good. Okay. I'm glad we clear that up. We'll go and fucking change the world what's sake. Cause it sucks right now. I'm telling you if, as much as we try and change stuff, just kidding. There, there is someone, there is a bigger, there's always a bigger fish that have a massive say and don't be like, government's gonna change.
Cause we have no, because if, if one big, if the bigger fish thinks it makes it more, it makes more money off that, that stuff. That's why they've made like weed legal and like America, cuz they finally realize, oh shit, we can tax this and oh shit. Most of the people in America smoke. Can I say, [01:11:00] and they've gone.
Oh, we're done. We've make money. Yeah, go for it. Um, one thing. So, so do you wanna introduce yourself first? Hi, I'm Milani. Hi, Milani. Lilani excuse me. Um, so one thing with what we were saying is like, um, for invasion day, which is Australia day, I'm Aboriginal, um, basically. Oh, sorry. um, basically, um, I started a protest and even though just cause I had a protest doesn't mean like, oh my God, my voice doesn't mean the government's gonna listen to me, but like I'm still trying to make a change, I guess.
Yeah, no, that's what I, I'm still saying, like, go, go for your, go for your life. Like honestly, like I'm, I'm full, supportive on that, but like, as I said, there's always a bigger fish and like you can't because like they're not gonna listen to anyone. Like they're not gonna even listen to their own mums. Even if their mums was like, Hey.
Fuck these off and yeah. Do do this shit, like, come on. No, one's gonna listen to 'em because it makes their money like makes them money. That's true. So, yeah, that's what I have to say. That's cool. You sound a bit defeated though. Will that's such a young lady. That's the thing. No, I'm just like annoyed. I'm just [01:12:00] annoyed.
Cause like that's fair people put in effort to do all that shit and then nothing comes out of it. Like, well, um, so on invasion day, I feel like I made a big difference in a lot of people's minds. Like not trying to change their minds, but educate them on the past and my, um, my people. So even if I can't change the bigger picture of it, I can help some people understand.
So that's what I care about. Yes. Nice. Thank you. I feel like we've gone pretty far. Like from five years back, I feel like everyone, everyone was celebrating Australia day. They're like, oh, Australia day having barbecues and everything. Now, most people like call it invasion day mm-hmm or most people, most people call it like it's it's it's a bad it's you don't call it Australia day.
It's terrible. But like. People still call it Australia day, but they don't do any, they still don't do it. Like they don't celebrate it. Mm-hmm but that's what I think they, people should do. They should change. They just, just change a name and just do like, just like, there's just change it or just not have Australia day.
I know, I know it's bad to say that. And I know it's quite political, but like, [01:13:00] Hmm. We just we've stolen people's lives also. So yeah. One good thing that has changed that there is an Aboriginal group in parliament now, so there are changes happening. Yeah. So that's good. That's good. That's amazing. I'd say it's really great to hear your opinion on it.
So thanks for sharing and like, and same with you guys. Like it's, it's just really interesting. So thanks. And you're in, you know what, you're entitled to your opinion as well, then don't let anyone ever tell you otherwise that's what a democracy is. You can voice it without fear of harm or, or judgment.
Now, Ricky, is it Ricky? Ricky's got the microphone, Rick. It is Ricky. We do have to wrap it up soon. One question. Yeah. How do you spell Ricky? Oh, Ooh. I mean, now this might be a decider. If I ever buy anything from king ping again, now way way in saying that pressure. Think really hard about your answer. Like the Ricky.
How do you spell Ricky? Like your name Ricky. Well, yeah, more specifically. Yes. My name Ricky, [01:14:00] but double C. Okay. Is it R I double C K Y? Yeah. Is that just cuz Mar had said that? Yes. I didn't say nothing, but yes. R I double C Y. Thanks Ricky, man. Well, it's a pleasure. No worries. And thanks for all your interesting information on vaping.
I feel educated and. Um, you know, I needed the education. Not that I'll ever vape, but thanks for asking. Thanks for, I needed to know this. I was curious and you know, there's a lot, I don't know. No, don't even put that thing near me. last, last time I tried it, I thought like my whole esophagus was gonna like, yeah, I wanna bring it back.
That's cuz you don't vape. It's been six months. You gotta start vaping. That's why you gotta get it all hardened up. Yeah, you gotta, you gotta build up a bit of tolerance. Do you vape Marlon? I, I do. And it, it like I have actually got off the, the cigarettes it's to. Marlon vape more than I breathe. You call it that this is Marlon's vape.
Yeah, yeah, yeah. There's a little bit of that sometimes. However, when I go skating, my lungs feel a lot clearer. So if that's a physical indication, [01:15:00] um, that could help. However, I have heard that the fruit flavored vapes are bad for the enamel on your teeth equivalent to a of Coke. I'm gonna scientifically explain that for you once we get off this podcast.
Thank you. No, I'm ready. Thank you. Well, listen, it's been epic. It's been hands down, maybe the weirdest most best. Awesome. I don't know how this tacular, I think because like last, last time we tried to be like heaps, like articulate on like what we said. I think so. I'm glad you cared. I, oh, I definitely cared.
I really liked that last episode. I had a to of listens. It was fun. Yeah, it was too fancy. How many listens did it have? I don't talk numbers on the, come on. You all I'm saying is last bad was the last record time two listens. Last time I came into the mindset of, oh, I've gotta be, I've gotta impress Shannon, but oh really?
Yeah. So you don't wanna impress me anymore? No, I already know that I've already impressed you and I can do better. Oh. But this time, like, if that makes sense, no harm have like more fun. Thank you. It's [01:16:00] yeah, dude. And like, I wanna have more fun too. In fact, I actually want to, I want. I want more comedians on the podcast.
Do you guys know comedians know bloke? I know bloke. I'm a comedian. I know you a comedian, my sister, a pretty good comedian. Is she funny? She's I actually know. Do you wanna, what about you we'll talk about after. Do you have any jokes? Anyone let's? No, I just, I just know a really good, I have a joke. Do you wanna go for a drive?
Oh, Rick's good show. Oh, alright. Oh, drive his heel. You're gonna have to bear with me on this one. Okay. Whoa, Ricky, Ricky, like, I'm just giving you heads up. I know you're smart and stuff, but let's just keep a time cap on it. Okay. Okay. Simple move. Keep it under a minute. My tiny brain. Keep it under a minute.
Go keep it under a minute. Easy under minute. Yeah. So my dad had this butter chicken recipe. Okay. Otherwise I'm CLA yeah, keep going. And like, it was this whole thing between like the whole like whole family, right? Like how does this guy make the, how make this amazing buttered chicken recipe. Okay. And, um, and one day he sits me down.
He goes, Ricardo, he's like, and he's making buttered chicken in the, in the, in the kitchen. Right. [01:17:00] And I'm like, 30 seconds. And I'm like, how? No. And I'm like, what? What's so good about this butter chicken. Right. And he goes, he goes and looks to me. He looks at me and he's like, Ricardo. So you want to know how the buttered chicken is so good.
And the, he just turns to me and looks and says, oh shit, look, basically, all that I put in there is like everything, but a chicken. Oh, no way. Yeah, do not do not play that sound. Do not play that audio. That's the finish up. Do not play audio. Don't touch it. I hate you, Ricky. That was actually good. Fuck this.
That's a dad joke. That's a dad joke. He's a dad. He's a dad. That's a dad joke that sucked. Anyway. Walk into a bar. Let's get around applause for Jonah, Tony, and will.[01:18:00]
Thank you so much for having us. Thank you, Rick. You oh yeah, no, I love you.
