This weekend, the digital marketing scoop, we're talking about Google optimize, what it is, how to use it, and how it can increase your leads and sales.
Speaker 2[inaudible]
Speaker 1Hey everyone. Welcome to this week's episode of the digital marketing scoop. This week we're going to be talking about Google optimize and Google optimize is a free too , that's offered by Google that allows you to split tests , um, pages on your website. Um, so I suppose just just before we jump into Google optimize, we would just do a quick kind of reminder. I w I want split testing is , um, so basically split testing is when you have uh , let's say one page on your website and you have elements in that page, maybe text or images , um, and you change those texts or images and you send half the traffic to you , the original version of your page and half the traffic to the new version of your page. And you see which version of that page converts into more leads and more sales.
Speaker 3Yeah, exactly. And so Google optimize is essentially a tool that does that really, really easy for you . You just plug it into your website, you just, you just go into it and it's, it's a very easy tool to check these things quickly and without kind of messing by making whole new landing pages and stuff. We love on balance . But this is uh , this is a slightly different kind of way of split testing to it is how we've spoken about it. So it's going to be split testing actually on your website. Yes, yep .
Speaker 1Opposed to creating new pages. Yeah. I suppose the great thing with Google optimize is there's a very good chance you have go to Google analytics already installed on your website. Um, and the great thing about Google optimize then is you set within Google optimize what it is you want to taste . So for example, if you have a page with a form on it and you want to improve, do you want to people filling out that form? If you've got gold already set up and Google analytics, then you already have that goal that you can import it into Google optimize. So you can take your page and Google optimize. You just put your URL of your page in , um, and it'll , your page will appear on the platform and you can literally
Speaker 3take a text element, clicking an image element, change it . Tell Google , this is the , the goal I wanted to test. Yep. Press start. And off you go. Yeah . I mean it's, it's, it's, I would describe it as like going into a word document and changing the header. Yeah . You know, it's, it's really, really, really easy to do. Um , so you can go in and like, I think I've bought a lot of people underestimate with split testing and this is a great way to show anyone who kind of thinks otherwise, but the smallest changes make such a difference. Yep . And Google optimize is just such a great way of showing you very quickly actually just even moving the sentence slightly left or Joe just changing the words around. Sometimes those, those small differences make, make the big impact. They really do.
Speaker 1I know it's something we always push years kind of always be testing. Um , and this is a, a very simple, well you kinda complex with it , but it , you can make it very simple that, okay, this week I'm going to test this particular product page, I'm going to change the image, I'm going to change the description, see what effect that has on just say ads or that product. Yeah . If you have an improvement, they're brilliant. If you don't, off you go. Again, that's something you can keep constantly testing, whether it's far , uh, you know, for eCommerce site, for leads , um, you know, it's , it's , it's just a fantastic, easy visual way to be able to split test a website. Yes .
Speaker 3You don't need any coding experience, so you need, you need very limited knowledge of a , of a website to be able to do these tests yourself. But like if you look at it this way, say if you have a website that's getting you 10,000 customers a month, and 2% of them are converting at tenure weeks , that's two times . And if my mouth says , okay, why did I go on this road? But yeah, okay, let's say it's 2000 but then if you do this good time and that's a 3% you get 3% conversion rate, your, your changes could have moved you from 2000 to 3000 euros. It's , it's, it's, and it could just be very simple change. So testing those things can, can make you more money and it's very, very easy to do. Yeah.
Speaker 1And the way I was , you know , when you say to someone, Oh your conversion weight went from two to 4% and it's like, okay, it's increased 2% no, it's an increased by 100% you just don't, you just doubled your amounts of leads or the amount of sales true to your website.
Speaker 3Exactly. And I mean like when we talk about, I always think people always say, Oh 1% 2% that's so small. It's, it's, it's not really that small on the scale of things, when you look at your, your website and how many traffic, how much traffic comes through. Because, I mean like if, if, if 2% of of your sales are worth [inaudible] and it's just an increase it to two and a half or 3% to make three or four times that however much you increase it by it , that's, that's, that's doubling . That's what you would consider that a hundred percent increase of your profits. Yeah , it's the same. Do
Speaker 1you know, and you , I suppose the thing I suppose WCAG will optimize to understand is that it doesn't matter what platform your website design or right or part of your, it's on a content management system like WordPress or it's you can retreat , just plug any page of your website into it and it's a fully visual , um, interface. So once that pops up, you can click any paragraph of your text, click on the image and change, change what a person will see. And when you start your test , then you can decide how much traffic goes to each one. So generally if you're doing a and B test, you put 50% a and 50% to B and you start your test off and it will report back to you. Then in the dashboard , um, of the goal that you set. So let's say for example, it's the form fill , how many people are on a fill out the form, how many people and be filled out the form and then from that then you can see, you know, which, which test is going to generate more revenue, generate more leads.
Speaker 3Yeah. And it flows kind of like I, our podcast the last few weeks I guess, I mean we started with kind of talking about Google tag manager and remarketing and stuff, but I mean when you have Googled the Google suite of stuff is just unbelievable. I mean when you have Google tag manager and all your tracking set up and then you've done filter truths , your goals and analytics and then you can just Google optimize is just a nice little add on. On the end of that we are taking, right? I've got, my goal is I've got a tracked there, everything's working well, that end , let's see, let's see how we can take this to the next level. You know, and, and like say if your spit test your changed version, we'll say get started a little bit more than that's your new one and you split test something small different again. And it's all about just kind of incrementally increasing your conversions constantly. And I mean that's, that's, that's how your you're gonna pursue . Yeah.
Speaker 1And I could see my tink as well. Probably a daunting task if you have a lot of off products yeah . On your, on your site and stuff like that. But if you're testing something that like, just say for example, the position of an add to cart button, you don't, you can do that on, you know, a couple of pages tests it . And if you find, okay, this, this change is working with across the mall , then deploy that across all the par , all the products. Obviously it's important to measure and track everything after you do that. But you , I would say you don't have to run that. Especially if you've an eCommerce page with a set layout, the T testing different changes in that layout and then deploying that layout to, to all of the ,
Speaker 3yeah, yeah. Deploying it everywhere. I mean it's, it's, it's a great way to get started cause then you can just go right to the core things. You have our product page, this page. It's as opposed to going, Oh we've 5,000 products, how would we split test all of these, you know, just pick one with a decent amount of traffic coming true to us . And that's probably a little bit important. If you want to kind of get a decent result from the split-tests and just go from there, then roll out the changes everywhere else then yeah ,
Speaker 1and if you're on, if you're in, if you know for your lead gen , if you're [inaudible] it's just, it can be, it's very easy because really chances are you're going to have a , a contact page. You just start playing around different imagery, different texts, push them out. I suppose the main thing look is to start split testing. Google the optimize gives you the platform to do it very, very easily and in a visual format where you don't really need to know any, any code.
Speaker 3Yeah, and we've spoken about that a tude before. Um , Hotjar. So you'd have your, you could, you could PLO , it's , yeah , she got a two week free trial when it's washed . Your really good idea is two weeks before you want to start split testing. Just put in, put it into your website and get the kind of heat maps back from it and maybe play around on Google, optimize where, where those hotspots are showing on your website. And that's a great way. Then I've kind of going, right , this is definitely an area of interest on the website. How can I perform better? Definitely. Yeah. Yeah. Brilliant. That has been this week's episode of the digital marketing scoop.
