So I am absolutely over the moon, stoked right now to be joined by this guy, brandon Hogue, team USA traveling right now. He comes to us en route. He's traveling to the Quad Cross of Nations as we speak. Brandon, where are you right now? I know you're in an airport. Where are you at right now?

Speaker 4:

Yeah, I'm in Chicago Airport right now. I just had a flight from Omaha to here. Jim Hardy is actually on the same flight as me, so, oh nice, yeah, it's me, jim Hardy, and my girlfriend Ava. We're about to's.

Speaker 2:

It's feeling pretty real right now I can't imagine what it feels like to be moving through the airport like that covered in team USA gear. Like obviously, anybody that would see you may not know what you got going on, but they would know that you're representing. You know our great country some way. Somehow I can't imagine what that must be like, dude. You're literally living out like all of our wildest dreams yeah, dude, I just the feeling's pretty awesome.

Speaker 4:

Like I've already had quite a few people ask me, like what are you doing? So, uh, it's super cool. Uh, you get a lot of stares, that's for sure. But yeah, I mean the whole entire just feeling's definitely starting to hit.

Speaker 2:

So it's like, dude, it's, yeah, it's next level we've all been places and saw people and we're like I don't know who that guy is, but he's somebody and that's what's going on right now.

Speaker 4:

Exactly, yeah, like I got like the Yamaha on the side and we were actually. You know people are like who is this?

Speaker 2:

guy Right, I love it. So Saturday March 9th, I texted you at like 8 42 PM and I texted you two words. Those two words were team USA. Uh, we got word that Chad was out right, he was out for the season and you were the very first person I thought of, you were the very first person I thought of when I got that news that I I knew that this was going to make it your time, this was going to be your time to represent team USA. I was a believer from the very beginning.

Speaker 4:

Right, yeah, I actually didn't even.

Speaker 4:

you know, I didn't think about it at all at that time when you had reached out to me.

Speaker 4:

But yeah it, uh, it feels good to finally be able to do it.

Speaker 4:

Um, like I kinda about halfway through the year and stuff, like I knew I felt like I could definitely belong on the team and just be, uh be one of the guys, for sure, um, and yeah, I I'm pumped that they selected me and it means, like it means a lot to me to uh go do this and definitely a a kid's dream for sure. But yeah, I just want to do good for for our country, of course, and uh, kind of like the team racing is a little bit different too. So, yeah, I'm looking forward to that. Like I mean, if, if one of my guys does bad, like that's gonna hurt me just as much, and like that's a cool feeling, I mean I'm, I'm there to help them as much as as possible, you know. So, uh, if I see a line on the track or I mean even anything with the machine, just whatever, I know we got a great team, but I'm, I want to be a team guy, like that's just. I know that's the job to do here.

Speaker 2:

So yeah, that's pretty, pretty damn cool man For you what a season it was. You know, after some trying years here, everything came together. This year it seemed like the Westland Motorsports team really came together. Everything was really hitting its stride. That had to feel so good for you to be back in podium contention each and every weekend. You know p3 and points again this season. You know back to where you were a few years ago with the music team, kind of just back where you belonged, and that had to feel so good, being that you know there was a couple years there where things weren't perfect necessarily.

Speaker 2:

I gotta believe that you're. I know you wanted more. You know I know you had some. You were leading some races, you were getting some hole shots. I know you wanted more, but you know I know you had some. You were leading some races, you were getting some hole shots. I know you wanted more, but I got to believe that it was a good, a good year that you made some strides from the last couple. And then you look forward and if you can make some more strides, like you did, you know, last year, coming into from where we are now into next year, I would think that that puts you, you know, possibly pushing Joel even a little more and that hopefully has to have you, you know, kind of liking where you're at right now yeah, I mean, all in all it was.

Speaker 4:

It was definitely a progressive year and, uh, the results on paper is a p3, but, um, I learned so much like every single race this year. So, uh, yeah, I you know, of course it's the off season, it's the time for everybody to try to think of what they can do better, and and I've been doing so much of that like just digging into everything in my life really because I'm 24.

Speaker 4:

And like I mean the old me, like call me crazy, but I'm like man, I want to definitely be a champion by now. And so it's like, uh, one of those things where I have to close that gap just more and more. And you know, the gap did close this year. I had some of my best races, no doubt, um, like pleasure valley, moto one comes in mind and just races where I felt different things and I felt, you know, definitely just like one of the guys.

Speaker 4:

So like, instead of being one of the guys, so like, instead of being one of the guys, I want to be that guy, you know. And uh, joel is there, of course, but, um, yeah, I'm just going to keep using every, every chance I get, every winner I get, to uh figure out what it takes to be that next guy.

Speaker 2:

So I want to get to a couple of questions here. To make sure we get to them. We'll circle back to that if I got time. Yeah, so I'm assuming this is going to be a first time overseas. Have you given any thought to the fact that you're going to be racing guys that you don't know? You literally don't know them. You don't know their, their racing antics or the. You know the way that they ride, the way that they race like you won't have done that, since you're probably a little kid, like everybody, you race against, even for even dating back to the 300 days or whatever, like you knew everybody. So think about how weird that is. Like it's gonna have been a really long time where you're racing against people that you're like. Yeah, I don't, I don't know who that is yeah, I've, uh, I've stalked about everybody over there.

Speaker 4:

That doesn't surprise me yeah, uh, but uh, yeah, I I do know quite a bit of those guys, like just from, obviously, like I said, stalking them now, but got to see their riding style and yeah, it's a lot different. It's definitely different to uh race guys that you're not racing normally or have never raced before. So that'll be a really cool experience as well, just to see uh see the different even machines and stuff. Like you know, it's just so different. So these guys got a lot of different stuff and parts and stuff to the chassis and all that. That'll be cool to see. So I'm a gamer dude. I want to be all in on all that stuff, like I want to learn all of it.

Speaker 2:

So, hey, I know you are. I know you're a film watcher the whole deal. That was going to be my next question. I know you're a film watcher, so tell me about the locket track, because I know we know that this is a big deal. This year it's now fim sanctioned. This is literally the biggest, baddest quad cross of nations ever. So what do you know about the locket track?

Speaker 4:

uh yeah, I already know the whole track, to be honest with you, so tell me about it one second. Yeah, no problem, thanks, uh, yeah, so I mean, I've watched all the footage that we have up to date on youtube and stuff, but track looks really my style like the dirt. The dirt's what I like. Uh, long start left hander little rhythm section to a right, like it's.

Speaker 2:

It seems like it flows really well and this is a legit mxgp real track over there it's. This isn't like what we've been, you know, doing up until now. So, um, you're part of the biggest, baddest, best quad cross of nations to date, pal I think it's.

Speaker 4:

It's legit to go like uh, I think it's going to turn out really well. Um, nice, you know, nice layout for it, elevation and stuff, like it's the real deal. I'm hoping it turns out with weather and stuff the way that you know. Hopefully it's all good there, but the track is definitely legit.

Speaker 2:

Yeah, pal Well, I know that you're boarding right now, so this is, you know, awesome to talk to you right before you're going to head overseas and get on the plane that whole deal. Last question, if you still got time what does your week look like for you between it's Monday night now? What does the week look like between now and when you go racing over the weekend? What's the plan for the week here?

Speaker 4:

Uh, plan for the week, did a nice training session to uh replicate the race. So I 30 minute warm-up and then 40 minutes of high intensity inside of that session. Uh, tomorrow's rest, just with the travel and stuff. Tuesday or wednesday we test, um, and then I'll still do some just off the bike like jogs and stuff, I'm sure with the team or something, and uh, stay loose with the colder weather. Just you know, you just want to stay loose and stuff. But um, yeah, rest and recover and then be sharp Saturday and Sunday.

Speaker 2:

Awesome man. Well, hey, wishing you the best, Safe travels, of course. I am so freaking proud of you as somebody that's seen you from the very beginning get to where you are today. I'm so proud of you, man, so I'm so proud to have you represent our great country and our series and everything over here. I'm so, so, so, very happy that you're going to get to put this in your memory bank and live out your dreams this way. So you're the guy that kind of shows everybody that you can do anything, you can speak it into existence, you can make it happen, pal. So, again, I'm so proud of you. Best of luck, and you're going to have a lot of us cheering for you many, many, many miles away on this side of the pond.

Speaker 4:

Thanks, man. It means the world to me. Seriously, dude, I'll have to send you a photo I was just looking at. I'll send it to you after the show. But yeah, it means a lot Thanks.

Speaker 2:

Good luck, safe travels. Sure are proud of you. Make us proud.

Speaker 2:

Man, I'm just so excited for Brandon Hogue to get this opportunity to represent Team USA at the Quad Cross of Nations. It's a long time coming. A lot of people wanted to see this happen for Brandon for a few years now. And to see it happen, man, I'm just. I'm so excited for him, so proud of him.

Speaker 2:

I want to read an excerpt that I posted to our Instagram, our social media accounts, really in the last couple days here, and I wrote as the gate drops this weekend at the 2024 Quad Cross of Nations in the Czech Republic, one notable absence will stand out Chad Wienand, the only rider to have lined up every time an American team has competed in this prestigious international event. After sustaining an injury at the season opener that sidelined him for the rest of the year, the eight-time AMA ATV Pro Class champion will, for the first time ever, not be representing Team USA in the red, white and blue. Despite this setback, wienand remains as dedicated as ever to the cause he has long championed. A five-time quad cross of nations champion himself, chad Wienand will be in Lockett this weekend offering his unwavering support for Team USA's riders Joel Hetrick, brandon Hogan, bryce Ford in every way possible. Truly a legend to go over there, excited to help the team in in every way that he could. I asked him about this. Actually earlier in the season I asked if he was going to be able to go or if he was planning to go over to europe for the quad cross of nations this year. Just knowing all that, he and thomas and tarv at the beginning of this whole thing it was kind of their brainchild, so just made sense and I thought that these younger riders could definitely lean on Chad for his insight, having done this and won this event five times now. So super excited that Chad shared that he was going to go over there and be part of this event, be part of Team USA, all those things he said. You know now he's been riding. He said he's got upwards of maybe eight times on the machine now he said it may be harder to actually be there for this event now that he's back doing a little riding. It might actually tug at his heartstrings even more now that he is back on the machine but, that being said, excited that he's going to be over there, he shared with me that seemed like it was a little wet over there when the guys tried to do a little bit of their testing earlier this week. So that is going to be a little bit of a hurdle for those guys.

Speaker 2:

It looks like the weather shows some chances of rain. Temperatures in the 50s, mid 50s. Chances of rain it is europe, right. So chances of rain, um, sit here late thursday night recording this. Chances of rain friday and saturday, kind of like 40, 50, 60 percent, something like that. Sunday looks like it's going to be okay. So I would think for the, for the main races, everything is going to be okay here. That's the way it's looking anyway, I believe. Per the usual these last few years at this event, Friday is some free practice, saturday they have their qualifying races. So each class, the, the, the one, two, three, joel Hetrick, brandon H, hogue, bryce Ford they're all racing their own classes on Saturday. And then Sunday is the big show for all the marbles, and this year is no different.

Speaker 2:

Formidable opponents, as always at this one Team USA, team Argentina, ireland, great Britain, estonia, france, belgium, norway, czech Republic. The list goes on. Notable names for some of these teams Patrick Turini, we've seen him in the States. Katrell Altamirano we saw him actually podium Pro-Am race earlier this year. He'll be out there for Argentina. Mark McLernan has been here in the States. Kyle Murphy is a name that we see. Harry Walker, the newly crowned 2024 european quad champion. Kevin saar of course, so many people here in the states will still be cheering for him and team estonia not in front of our american riders, of course, but obviously cheering for kevin saar, such a likable guy in more names that we know. Of course, going down the list here marcus thompson. Mike Van Glinsven, another rider that has really shown some flashes at this race in the past.

Speaker 2:

So so many guys to watch. So many teams to watch Should be exciting. Like I hinted at with Brandon, these are matchups that we only see once a year. We're going to see matchups with Brandon Hogue over there this weekend that we've never seen before. So that's really exciting and we can't wait to see these guys drop the gate both Saturday and Sunday. So much fun to watch.

Speaker 2:

I shared the link to our Digging Deep Facebook page where you can sign up for the live stream. They do such a great job with that broadcast. It's worth every penny. I've done it every year that we've had Digging Deep and have covered this event. It's worth the price of admission for sure. It's so good. It's not some janky live stream. It's very, very well done and enjoyable. It's like watching some race coverage on the TV, so it's really, really fun to watch. Good investment, for sure. I don't know the schedule for sure yet for the weekend, as far as like what times these dudes are going to race here, like in stateside time. Once I do get that, though, I'll share that to our Digging Deep page.

Speaker 2:

All right, as we finish up here, I want to make a couple announcements, and these announcements have to do with our awards, our Digging Deep awards for this 2024 season, of course, starting with our ATV Fantasy, our Digging Deep ATV Fantasy champion. That award obviously goes to Ryan Barnes. We've talked about him a little bit winning this title. We're going to talk to him on an upcoming episode. Congrats to Ryan. He's in the position that so many people, so many of us, want to be in. So congrats to Ryan. We'll talk to him on an upcoming episode.

Speaker 2:

Another award that we have to give away, obviously we're very proud of this one the 2024 Dane Molander Rising Star Award. Now, full disclosure. I think that Jaden JJ Launderville would be a very deserving winner of this award. He stepped up in a major way this season he was arguably the fastest amateur in ATV racing. He won the pro sport championship. He swept a weekend where he won both classes pro-am and pro sport. He was absolutely amazing. That being said, he's a previous winner of this award. I would like to think, especially with Dane Molander's name on this thing now, that it's something that is quite prestigious. It's something that I hope some of these guys even maybe think about during the season or, for sure at least, are excited to win or be in the running for. So, that being said, I didn't want a two-time winner of the same award. So if Jaden JJ Launderville was off the list, in my mind the next guy in line was quite clear.

Speaker 2:

When you talk about a rising star award, you talk about somebody who really impressed in a major way, really made some waves within the sport, really hit the ground running, couldn't miss them. All of those things really showing that they're going to be a force to be reckoned with in the future years of our sport. Here I mean previous winners jayden jj launderville, dane molander uh, of course, rest in peace to dane. Mason jackson is a previous winner of this award and now our winner of the 2024 Digging Deep Rising Star Award is going to be Joey Norris. Joey Norris, the videos, how fast he's going, the dude, the riding style, all the things.

Speaker 2:

I don't need to explain how awesome Joey Norris is to our listeners here. He's amazing, he's the star in the making. He's such a young kid. This was his first full year on a 450. Like to think about what he did. Absolutely amazing, and I think what really stands out to me it was the way the guy came out absolutely on fire in the pro sport class. We watched him put on an absolute show, an absolute clinic at Daytona, being so smart, late into that race, making a late charge, doing all the right things to win the opener. And then he followed that up by winning two more events in a row. He won the first three overalls in the pro sport class and then he so that's three, that was three wins to start the season. Then a third, a second, a third, a third, a second, a third, a third. So that's one, two, three, four, five, six, seven. That's seven podiums, including three wins in the season here in the pro sport class. So absolutely amazing for joey norris. He's an awesome kid, so respectful, just uh, just a kid, that I find it very easy to cheer for and an absolutely deserving winner of our 2024 Digging Deep Dane Molander Rising Star Award. So congrats to Joey Norris on that one.

Speaker 2:

And then that brings me to our 2024 Most Improved Pro Award. Wesley Wolfe was our winner last year. He was in the running this year again. I mean mean, if you were to do the eye test of the most improved pros, I would think him and Max are the first ones that come to mind. Now it gets a little little dicey, a little little weird with the the points right, because we had riders like Wesley Wolf and some of these other riders that were out for portions of the season, and then some riders were out for portions of the season, and then some riders were out for portions of the season last year too. So that does change the math. But I think the guy that deserves the award is the guy that is is going home with this thing, is taking this thing home, and it's Max Lindquist. We always do this thing by the numbers which rider scored more points over their points last season than any other guy? And by the numbers it's max lindquist. And then the eye test too, shows that max lindquist was the 2024 digging deep most improved pro. I truly believe that, with five podiums on the season, max ended up fourth in points, just, uh, just single digits back from third in the championship and he was 86 points better than he was a year ago. That's absolutely amazing. He changed some stuff up with his program this year and every decision that max made was clearly the right one, because he got back on track 86 points better than a year ago, absolutely his best season as a pro and so deserving of our 2024 digging deep most improved pro award.

Speaker 2:

Max lindquist, other guys in the running, other guys that there's that deserve a shout out here. Our second most improved pro, our p2 in the running for most approved pro, was adam alrick, who was 64 points better than a year ago. So congrats to adam. That was really respectable. Marshall smith 61 points better than a year ago, so credit to him as well. Brandon hogue, who I thought was very much going to be in the running for this thing too 58 points better than a year ago, so that makes him the fourth most improved.

Speaker 2:

Fifth most Joel Hetrick 33 points more. 33 points better than a year ago. 29 points better was Kevin Saar in the sixth spot. Seventh most improved was Bryce Ford, 13 points better than a year ago. Eighth is his brother, cody Ford, nine points better than a year ago. Eighth is his brother, cody Ford, nine points better than a year ago.

Speaker 2:

And rounding out the field, there was nine guys that bettered themselves from a year ago and number nine is Wesley Wolfe. Now, that doesn't really show. He was actually, I think, his best version of himself this season. He was out with those injuries that obviously impacted some things, but he made it known. He got back on the podium multiple times. Great renaissance year for him, all those things.

Speaker 2:

So credit to Wesley Wolfe and he was a previous winner. He won this award last year. So credit to all these guys, all nine guys that bettered themselves on the year versus a season ago. But it was all Max Lindquist when it comes to Most Improved Pro. So congrats to Max Lindquist on our Digging Deep Most Improved Pro Award. Congrats to Joey Norris on our Digging Deep Dane Molander Rising Star Award and congrats to Ryan Barnes on his Digging Deep ATV Fantasy Award here in 2024. We got some cool trophies for these guys. We'll plan to probably talk to them on the show here as well. Maybe we'll see some of these guys at our Digging Deep ATV Ride Day coming up next weekend at Briarcliff. But yes, we'll get these guys their trophies, we'll get some photo ops, we'll talk to them, all those things. But congrats to all three of these guys taking home the hardware for our 2024 digging deep awards.

I remember watching Doug Guss I don't know who it was Steel City running the same times Friday afternoon as James Stewart was on Sunday. Back then it was mental. I've never seen quads go that fast. Quad leaders are freaking gnarly.
