The Point of It All
A podcast that touches on every day life issues, but from an "inner circle" point of view. I interview my closest family and friends to find out how they get through difficult times, as well as celebrating their victories.
The Point of It All
Surviving Prostate Cancer
Here are some quick facts about prostate cancer:
An estimated 164,690 men in the United States will be diagnosed with prostate cancer this year.
The average age of diagnosis is 66. The disease rarely occurs before the age of 40.
For unknown reasons, the risk of prostate cancer is 74% higher in Black men than in non-Hispanic white men.
African-American men are more than twice as likely to die from prostate cancer.
Prostate cancer is the second leading cause of cancer death in men in the US.
Every 45 minutes one man dies from prostate cancer - that's more than 12,000 men every year.
1 in 8 men will be diagnosed with prostate cancer in their lifetime.
I thought this was the best way to show just how prevalent this disease is among the African American male community. I find it interesting that we still don't know why it attacks this segment of our community more than others.
My guest on this episode is Larry Jero, who battled prostate cancer twice! In this podcast Larry shares with me what it was like to be diagnosed, how he prepared to battle it, and what his life has been like since then.
Larry also has his own podcast called Civil Rhetoric, and you can check it out here.
