Hello, everybody, and welcome back to the Trinity Football Podcast. I'm your host, Dan Albano, with the Orange County Register and OC Varsity, and I'm joined by my partner, Scott Barajas. We are recording our show on Monday, September 7th, 2026. Happy Labor Day, belated to everyone. Happy Labor Day to you, Scotty. We uh we are uh in our labor of love, should I say, about the uh covering the Trinity League uh football podcast with all these uh interesting results to break down. We are grinding on a uh Labor Day evening, and it's great to be with you, Scotty, because we have a lot to talk about tonight.
SPEAKER_01Yes, indeed we do, Dan. Yeah, I'm fired up because yeah, there's just a lot going on. Um, like I said, it's a it's we're in a a time of the Trinity League where where a lot of stuff is going down that we're not normally used to seeing. Um so uh yeah, you know, it's just gonna keep on uh getting uh a little bit more interesting as we go along.
SPEAKER_03So and I want to welcome back all our listeners, and we really appreciate you guys going on this journey uh with us in the 2026 Trinity League football season. You know, it's uh starting to uh feel a little bit like football weather out there here in Southern California. A little rain uh today um over the weekend, but it's heating up again. And um but it's also heating up on the gridiron. Trinity League went uh five and one uh last week, Scotty. Um the only team that lost was Survite. We'll be uh breaking it all down and looking at a big week coming up, led by one of the best rivalries in Southern California for sure, modern-day Centennial hooking up uh again. Um but Scotty, I uh off the uh the jump, I want to ask you know, you know, what did what do you think was the the biggest win last week in the Trinity? And I to me it was between Orange Lutheran knocking off number 12 nationally ranked bash of Arizona, you know, um at Orange Coast College, avenging a loss from last season, or was it was it Jay Sarah taking out Crean Lutheran for an early signature win under first year coach, you know, Ray Fenton? Of course, Lancers have a first year coach, Ray Fenton. You could say the same thing that, hey, back-to-back wins under Coach Fenton. Which one of these ones did you did you really like, Scotty, the most?
SPEAKER_01You know, it's a good one. It's how you want to look at it um from the surface or whether it's broken down because both wins are great. But um as I will probably get into it with the Basher win, you know, Basher wasn't as great, wasn't as strong as it indicated. Yeah, they were the 12th ranked team, but I think Basha's team last year was better than this year's team, um, at least early on. Um, and then again, you have Jay Sarah, you know, and that that was a big win because you know it was kind of a tail tell uh for Korean, you know, and um and I think that I'm gonna go with Jay Sarah. Uh, you know, I think that was a big win. And we'll break that, we'll break that one down as well, but um, that's how I look at it, you know. But I think most are gonna go with the other just because it was a national win, but people don't look at it the way we do.
SPEAKER_03So um well, I I'll I'll let's start with uh Jay Sarah. Um, because I think it was, you know, um I talked to um and I I will play some uh audio here shortly, but I talked to um running back Will uh Frederickson after the game. I covered this game for the register, and it was a Santa Margarita uh excuse me, a Jay Sarah victory on the road. Um first ever meeting between the two schools. Jay Sarah defeated Kareen Lutheran 37 to 29. And let's hear from uh first year coach Hardy Nickerson on this victory.
SPEAKER_00Uh that's some really good things, uh, some really good things to teach from and and uh and to learn from. We'll go back, we'll look at the film um and make the corrections that that are necessary. And uh again, for us, it's it's just about we're we're looking to get better and better each each outing. 1% better is our is our motto. We go by that every day, and uh uh we're excited to get the win, uh, but can't wait to get back to the drawing board and get back to work.
SPEAKER_02Your ground game is certainly improving. What do you say, coach, would uh you know, with the way Fredericks is running the ball, and then with Hayes, what he brought in that dimension, you know, obviously a big run late in the game.
SPEAKER_00Yeah, you know, um at halftime, you know, pulled uh I talked to Will in the locker room and said, hey man, need 100 yards out of you in the second half. And he said, I got you, coach. Um so really proud of him, really proud of the work uh with our offensive line. Uh they're really getting after it. And uh when those guys get moving, uh, you know, we're we're tough to stop in the run game.
SPEAKER_03All right, Scotty. Well, like I was saying, I talked to uh running back Will Frederickson after the game. He talked that this was, you know, he looked at this as a paradigm shift moment that they are going uh under uh at Jay Sarah with just a new outlook, a new approach, really focusing on the the power running, um focusing on um their offensive line and trying to have you know playing that you know a little seems like a little bit more intense football and trying to have a better attitude and going for going for wins. I mean it incorporated a lot that um Will was telling me about and it showed up in this in this win where Jay Sarah they ran for 225 yards, Scotty. Um and that was you know they also um passed for 168, so they they racked up almost 400 yards of offense. Uh Will Frederickson was was huge, um career high 25 carries for 137 yards, two TDs, and then Hayes uh Cloucher, you know, the uh transferred from Texas, he was uh very problematic the way he um scrambled and ran the ball and passed it. He ran for a touchdown, a key 31-yard touchdown in the fourth quarter was kind of the backbreaker. And he also threw uh two touchdowns to Sam Fredericson, he's the brother of Will Frederickson, and he was pretty accurate too. 15 of 23 for 129 yards. So the big offensive line led them. And you know, the the the penalties were definitely a big story in this game for both teams uh concerning for Sam for uh for Jay Sarah, 18 penalties for 169 yards, um 11 for 114 yards for Kareen Lutheran. And like we were saying off air, Scotty, you know, I th I think that this was this was a pretty chippy game. It was pretty intense. I felt like the referees were trying to control it and with a lot of unsportsman-like penalties and stuff, trying to keep it under control. Um and yeah, there was there was there, I know there was one decent little skirmish um that they kind of um didn't didn't get too out of hand, but it was a chippy, intense game, I think that led to a lot of the penalties. But uh, like you said, Scotty, you thought this was a big win for Jay Sarah. Um, what's your breakdown on this one?
SPEAKER_01You know, uh that was a great quote by uh Frederickson. You know, you got to give them the big kudos for the pair using that that big word. You know, it's like I bet you a lot of people had to sit and look it up. But uh that was pretty good on his part. Um, but yeah, the fourth you know quarter got interesting. Um, but I don't think Jay Sarah was ever in trouble, you know, and I still think they won convincingly, despite you know, this it would be a seven-point win. Um, you know, what I got out of this is that Creen still has a ways to go before they're considered you know Trinity level team because Jay Sarah pretty much controlled the line of scrimmage on both fronts and and was physical with them. Um the Lion defense put constant pressure on Joe on Kinnan Jones. You know, if not for his mobility, I think Jay Sarah would have racked up more than the one and a half sacks that they were uh credited for because Jones was flushed from the pocket just about every snap. Um he kept creening the game, you know, making um out-of-the-pocket runs, uh throws, mainly to Braylon Ross, who had nine catches for 132 yards. And then he hit hit on some big passes in that fourth quarter that you know I'll talk about in a bit. But you know, and they contained the run game. They limited uh Caleb Bay to 44 yards rushing. I think his longest game was was their first TD, which is about a 20-yard run, possibly. Um, but as you alluded to, yeah, the tempo of this game was just marred by constant penalties. Um, and then they were costly for Krean. You know, Kareen was nailed for back-to-back offside penalties um on a series which Jay Sarah decided to go for it instead of kicking the field goal, and they actually punched it in on a short run that gave them a 14-7 lead. So um and then the next series, Kreen was nailed for three 15-yard penalties to aid in Jay Sarah's score when Hayes Collard took the QB keeper, uh, but the play was strung out, and Hayes improvised and came back and hit Sam Frederickson for a six-yard TD, which was great, but they were lucky they didn't call for linemen downfield. But the play was you know pretty short, so you know the linemen didn't have you know, you know, carry downfield, but it was great on Frederickson to be alert, you know, for them to be on that same page for him to dump it off to him. And that was they jumped out to a 21-7 lead.
SPEAKER_03Yeah, that was a slick play, huh?
SPEAKER_01Yeah, and um, and then the last two minutes of the half probably was the best football uh of the game for both teams. Crean answered the Jay Sarah score, drove down the field, capitalized on the good field position with no penalties on the drive, where Jones hit Troy uh Roberts on the back end of a crossing with 56 seconds left. Um and then Jay Sarah took its shot, drove the ball down, and they got three points with eight seconds left with the 37-yard field goal to make it 24-14. And then, you know, that second half was mainly all Will Frederickson and Hayes Clauter's ground game. Frederickson opened the second half, I think running like the ball five consecutive times. He capped it with the 25-yard run. They make it 30-14. Um, and Jay Sarah had the chance to even increase the lead, but they failed to punch it in uh for a score, and they turned the ball over on downs on the one-yard line. So if they if they could have blown that one wide open, but somehow Crean just wouldn't go away. You know, tossed, uh, Jones tossed back-to-back TDs in the fourth to get them down to 30 to 22 with six minutes left, and then that's when Hayes Clowder turned, you know, took over on fourth down. He scrambles, goes untouched for a 31-yard TD, and they balloon it back up to 31, 37, 22. But it wasn't just over yet, because that's when you know Kareen, after a turnover on downs in Jay Sarah territory, the Lions got the ball back, but they went to three and out and they shanked the punt, gave Korean back the ball on the 20-yard line, and then Caleb takes the Wildcat snap for a one-yard TD, then it cuts the lead to 37-29. So, you know, despite all that scoring, you know, like I said, the game wasn't that close, but somehow they they stayed in the ball game, you know, in that last uh last you know, fourth quarter. Um, but it wasn't that close, like I said. But interesting, but it's interesting to this, and you probably can allude more on this too, is that Hildenberg actually started the game for J Serra. Went the first two series, made some nice throws, yeah, had a scramble, and then Hayes entered and went the rest of the way. But you know, they could have probably stayed with Hildenberg because he, I mean, he looked just as solid in his time that he played. But what I like about this J Serra offense is they used Hayes' mobility on rollouts, they hit the crossing receivers, it was efficient, just enough to keep the offensive flowing with its running game. Um, even though they didn't have, you know, like I said, they didn't put up big passing numbers, but it was efficient and um, you know, their offense looks a lot like similar. And we mean we talked about this of Santa Margarita, you know, because they used similar um um setups, the way they use their receivers and um their running game. But in all, I mean, other than the penalties, I think it was still a solid game for J Sarah. And um it's gonna be interesting to see, you know, if they can clean that up as they go down this stretch. Um it's just like I said, it's just gonna get more interesting because we're not used to seeing you know the Jay Sarah teams um, you know, actually, you know, putting up this type of production.
SPEAKER_03Yeah, well, some good uh points there, Scotty. Um you know, speaking of to that point, you know, you know, J Sarah improves to two and one. Um I guess uh Scotty, uh here's a trivia question uh quick question for you. Who scored the most points uh through three games in the Trinity League?
SPEAKER_01Teamwise? Teamwise teamwise. Oh, I would have had to like is it just I would have had to sit there and think, but now that we think about it, is it Jay Sarah?
SPEAKER_03It is Jay Sarah, they've scored 121 points. Wouldn't have thought that. I know. Uh just like you said, um, they haven't been exactly showing that. Um and yeah, what they're doing with their offensive line, um, scrambling with their both those quarterbacks that you mentioned, um, both the Jay Sarah quarterbacks that played against Green Lutheran, very good runners. Um Hilgenberg, he was five for eight for 30 uh nine yards passing, and he had four carries for 34 yards, including a 15-yard run. Um, yes, uh Hayes is a little bit more crafty maybe with throwing on the run, um, but some great experience for Hilgenberg, who is a sophomore. Um, and Hayes is a uh is a senior. So if if Jay Sarah is trying to get a sophomore quarterback some big time experience um when it matters on the road, they're succeeding. And um that's probably bodes well for their future. So and uh, you know, Clark Coakley in the in the pat in the short passing game is definitely a great option on third down. And then when there's a lot of ground attack and people are focused on Clark Coakley going for short, then they're able to go deep for Sam Frederickson, for example, and and and he got behind the defense for his touchdowns. Um so yeah, very uh productive game and a lot of progress. I do feel like early in the season, despite all those penalties, I felt like Jay Sarah is showing they had in this game, they showed they have a feel for their offense. They they they they knew what they are they looked comfortable and executing what they needed to do. They have a lot to clean up because that's a lot of penalties, but um definitely some progress. Um who was your uh player of the game in this one, Scotty?
SPEAKER_01Uh it was tough. I went with Will Frederickson based off of you know, he had that that great uh rushing T in the first half, but he ran for um 137, but 109 was in the second half. Yes. So all right.
SPEAKER_03Well, that's a good pick right there. I I can't uh argue with uh with Will Frederickson Sr. Um and yes, he did give a great uh post-game interview with that uh with that quote. Um so um I thought enough of it to put it in the headline. Uh, and it the the editors kept it there, so that was happy to hear. Uh happy to see that uh the the paradigm shift uh got in the headline. That's all credit to Will Frederickson. All right, Scotty, like we said, another big game and big victory last week was Orange Lutheran defeating Basha of Arizona 23 to 17. I picked Basha to win this game, but I was wrong, and the Lancers get back-to-back huge wins under Coach Ray Fenton. And um, because you know they went on the road and beat Cathedral Catholic the previous week. Now they're back at home at Orange Coast College, and they took out Basha. And Scotty, there were some uh big plays in this one, and one guy we got the spotlight on the defense, I think, was was obviously very huge, and that would be King Johnson, um, King Richard Johnson with a very big interception return. That's back-to-back weeks that he's returned an interception for a touchdown, and this was the go-ahead points in this game. I'm sure you'll have that in you know your breakdown, but that was a big pick six where the yes, the ball was overthrown, but he did go get it. The junior safety, and he did bring it all the way back, got some good blocking, a lot of good blocking from his um teammates that you know he took it up the sideline. Um and they all blocked for him, and and that's a great sign. And um, you know, one thing, you know, we just go from one running back to the next here, uh, Scotty, which I know is is a theme that we'll be we've we've talked about and we're noticing for sure. And we're mentioning on the Trin League podcast, there's a lot of great running backs that are doing well right now. Um, and for Orange Lutheran, it's it's sophomore uh Ryan Christensen, who 31 carries for 144 yards and a touchdown to lead the offense. Um so I think that was a big interception return, and you know, uh a great running uh game. Um as it was a little bit quieter passing game for the for the duo of uh Regan Toki and Ezra Brown. They were hot, uh especially Ezra was certainly hot, almost perfect against Cathedral Catholic, but it was Ryan Christensen um leading the way with a big game. And like we said, Basha, Scotty, they were number 12 in the country. They tumbled a lot, and um Orange Lutheran uh gets to two and one. Uh, what did you think of this game?
SPEAKER_01You know, the uh the headline may highlight the offense for the win, but it was Orange Lutheran's defense that was responsible. Uh they controlled the game, they won the field position battle uh while shutting down the Basha offense, you know, giving up, except for like two long TDs, that was all they gave up. You know, the Lancer defense held Basha to 179 yards passing, 67 yards rushing, like I said, controlled the line of scrimmage, uh, primarily with Ray Lange, a res Lometti, and uh Bubba McClure, who were you know causing havoc. They were all in there, they all had multiple tackles. Um, you know, they made it difficult for Basha to get its offense going. You know, the only guy on Basha's offense that gave Olu's issues was was receiver Jaden Baldwin. He had nine catches for 132. He had the first TD on a 66-yard reception. And like I said, Baldwin had 132 of their 179 yards passing. So, so besides the the the front, we talked about Olu's secondary was solid, you know, and I'm gonna specifically uh point out, you know, um, you know, Honor Johnson. Um he broke up four passes, including two back-to-back breakups on a third and fourth down stops. He may not have had the pick that his brother had, yeah, you know, um that he'd had. And like I said, you said it resembled that his pick resembled more like a punt than a throw. It hung up there, but Johnson returned it for you could have said 86 84 yard TD. Um, but it uh yeah, put Olu up 14-10 heading into that half. And then it was the third quarter that Olu put them put Basha in the hole and is hammered down on their offense. Uh Basher's average starting field position in the third quarter, their own 10-yard line. And that was primarily because of Toby Wickman's doing. The punter put four punts inside the 20, three of them inside the 10-yard line. And that Lancer defense did not allow a first down or allowed Basher to get out of that, you know, out of that corner. Um, you know, Olu's starting position in the in that quarter, Basher's 45-yard line. But they could only capitalize on one offensive TD, and that was a 16-yard touchdown pass from Meza Brown to reading Velasquez in that second half. You know, and so if not for Ryan Christensen's steady play, which was keeping them in the game, you know, that could the passing game was just a non-factor for them in this one. And then, you know, Basha did answer back with the 32-yard pass on a fourth down to running back Noah Roberts um to close out the score 23-17. Um, you know, but that that's when you know Ryan Christenton went to work at Junior, his blue-collar production. They eight clock for Orloo, you know, with the five minutes left in the game, he carried the ball seven straight times, you know, rushing for 93 of his 144 yards in the second half. And you know, he finished the game with a 31 yards, 31 yard, 31 carries. 30 carriers, yeah. Yeah, but he knows and he average, you know, he only averaged 4.6, but you know, that was just like you know, war course, you know, work for them. Um I think Chauncey Washington capped the game with an interception with 30 seconds left in the game, which he actually scored, but it was called back for a penalty, which was Olu's 14th of the game, you know, could they got to clean that up? But uh, because it was, I think, their third game with double digit penalties. Um, and then Olu continued to go with. It's dual QBs. Toki started, but Ezra Brown took more snaps. You know, Brown wasn't as sharp this week. Um, he was 50%, nine of 18, only 87 yards, a TD in the pick. And then when Toki was in, he was utilized more as a runner. You know, he took a lot of QB draws and keepers, even though he was five of five for 32 yards. Um, but this is another you know quarterback situation that we you know we we we should you know have to watch too, because like the way they use theirs, the way Moderday's using theirs, the way um Jay Sarah is using theirs, it's you know, it's interesting. So um, you know, it seems that Olu seems to go is gonna go in with the hot hand versus the number of series. Um you know, sometimes, you know, because sometimes it's like you know, it disrupts the offense if you go with series versus who has a hot hand. And um, I know it's kind of been an issue with some other teams that do it that way. So um, but yeah, great win for Olu. They they get back, you know, get back on it. Um, you know, they're gonna play, you know, they're gonna, you know, this week's is a little kind of a I want to say sigh, or kind of a little, it's probably the easiest game left on their non-league schedule. Um, but we'll talk more about that a little bit.
SPEAKER_03Yeah. And your player game is it uh running back Ryan Christensen. Uh just like um Will Frederickson, I mean, this is a career high game for carries and yards.
SPEAKER_01It is, but I did not. I thought that and hoard I went with uh Johnson for his lockdown coverage and his bread his past breakups because when you watch him, watch his play, I mean it was textbook. I mean, he he drove on guys, he hammered on guys, he broke up everything, you know. They he was key and also limiting because they had they only had 15 yards passing to the rest of the team when you take away Baldwin and that Robert touchdown catch. They didn't get anything on him, and you know, and so I I I just you know thought that with with them being Basha having those athletes at receiver and that and that you know, being in that that I just I just looked at that as being you know part, you know, because I think we're gonna see Ryan, you know, Christensen down the road. And he, you know, he again, it was like yeoman's work for him. He could have got it, but I you know, I want to highlight, you know, um something that that may have not been seen um unless you really break down the film. And I thought that was Honor Johnson's play, and and um, you know, you know, he's just adding to the to the to the strong corners that we see in the Trinity League.
SPEAKER_03So yeah. Two good uh twin brothers right there. Um that you're we spotlighted on that one, and of course Ryan Christensen. Um all right, Sky, another uh you know, very anticipated game I want to take you to. Uh this is the one you took in Modern Day 38 Valor 20 uh 22. 3822. This game was at Santa Ana Stadium.

SPEAKER_03And this improved Modern Day to 3-0. Uh Modern Day up 17-3 at halftime and pulled away in the second half to get the uh victory, stay undefeated. Um so for Modern Day, uh wasn't a big passing game as far as yardage. They did throw a couple touchdowns, but speaking of running backs, that's where you know again Modern Day spread it out with the ground uh yardage. And um, well, he wasn't as prolific this uh this time, but um he continued his uh strong sophomore campaign. That's a Sierra Nebhard running back, 13 carries, 64 yards, and a touchdown. Um but Modern Day also ran the ball um again with another uh sophomore. Um Mark Allen definitely ran hard again, eight carries, 67 yards. Russell Siconia, the quarterback, also rushed 11 times for 86 yards. So that's how you get to as a team, Modern Day running for um 252 yards. I'm sure you're probably gonna spotlight the the two touchdown catches by uh Gavin uh Onre, who continues to make uh definitely an impact in his return to um modern day. It seeming like the the uncommitted senior uh receiver, he's back to you know doing what um the monarch faith was uh thinking that he could do um as a playmaker. And um on defense got some um key plays, um a couple sacks, got a um inner uh interception from um uh Ezekiel Sua. That was big the linebacker. But what did you have on this game, Scotty, where uh you know this was a game that I was I was I was a little I was wondering about uh the monarchs. I thought they might be um a little bit in they could be upset in this game, but they were steady enough to get the 3-0.
SPEAKER_01Yeah, so you know, modernated won the game, you know, but I think you know they left with more questions heading into this week, you know, and I think like we said, it's it starts with the elephant in the room, the quarterback. So for the third week in a row, the rotating QBs failed to generate momentum, move the ball down the field passing, or you know, they haven't thrown for a hundred yards yet. Um you know, and that's that's gonna be an issue. And it it took a scoring, you know, drive from freshman ace Peyton Guess and a highlight fourth down play to show he's definitely the guy to give Modern Day its best chance the rest of the way. You know, we'll get back to that in a little bit, but Modern Day was really never in jeopardy. You know, they allowed Valor, you know, 7-0 lead on its opening drive, you know, where the Monarchs ended up giving up three third down conversions, including, you know, that that aided a rough, they had a roughing the passer penalty, but after that they settled down the rest of the way. Um, you know, this week Sakona got the start. You know, on his first drive, he led Monterday down the field all on the ground between, you know, you know, you know, Nemhard and um Sakona, you know, carries. They got inside the five-yard line, but Marterday had to settle for a 25-yard field goal by Jerry Schiffman after Sakona went 0-2 throwing inside the five. He threw one into double coverage, and then he threw he had a slant to a wide open Gavin Honore, but it went like high and like three yards behind him. So next series, Sakona fumbles the snap, you know, and um they recover, uh, Valor recovers, you know, it was the Mardi's sixth offensive turnover in three games. Um, you know, Sakona finished the game all three passing, but he only attempted five more passes that he chose to scramble on, meaning that he didn't throw, which aided to his 89 yards rushing. You know, in the three games, he's six to fifteen for 147 yards, but remember 120 of it came on those two deep balls. And then Pooley's play was shaky despite he threw two TD passes to Gavin. And one of them, Gavin had to go up and make a great leaping catch and toe tap because the ball was high in a way. And then the last one came on a fourth quarter 12-yard crossing route to a Gavin that capped the scoring at 38 with like 11 minutes left in the fourth quarter. It was probably Pooley's best throw that he's thrown all year long. And he was only six of 13 for 65 yards, 46%. So it was pretty much like that all the game with these two inconsistent drives, no continuity with the offense. Modern can't drive, you know, can't survive just on scramble runs or you know, on Essier and Allen. They you got to have this creativity, you got to be able to make a pass after the play breaks down. So after the stall drive with 255 in the second quarter, they bring Guess in on a fourth down play. That play that they've kind of been bringing him in. He rolls to his left, eludes, sidesteps three defenders, rolls back to his right, and hits Ace Luter on the run for an 18-yard gain. Like, wow, like the other two guys can't make that play. I mean, it was like Bryce Younglight. That's that's what it was like. And there's a highlight out there that you may have seen.
SPEAKER_03I have seen it now that you mentioned it.
SPEAKER_01But the momentum was with Modern Day. And then Poole comes back in, but can't get down the field. But they're aided, Modern Day's aided by a questionable PI call that later Assir Namhard punched in from the eight yards out to make it Modern Day's lead 17-7 going into the half. So after a three and out for Modern Day to open the second half, Guess actually comes, enters the game with the ball on the Modern Day 44. He leads them down the field, capping the drive with the five-yard TD pass to Rakim Gaynus to increase the score to 24-7. But on that drive, the first play, he took the read option, pulled it, went 15 yards, and then he hit Gavin Honre for a 12-yard pass, and he finished three of three, 34 yards, the TD and the 15-yard rushing on his limited opportunity. And it was limited, but it was so obvious when you compare his reads, reaction time, his skill set to the others. I mean, the offense just it ran smoothly. Um, it there wasn't any hiccups. There wasn't it just you could see the momentum, you could feel the energy. Um, and then on Valor's next possession, Modern Day's Vilamiya Cifab strips the Valor running back and Modern Day recovers. But Laura goes back to Sakona. All the momentum is like lost. You know, Modern Day does score, but it ended up being on a one-yard sneak, but it was a struggle to get down the field, you know, and Modern Day was, you know, ends up being up 31-7. You know, and as far as the rest of the offense, you know, uh Sear was kind of contained. He never broke loose. He did have the 64 yards rushing. Allen ran well, had the 67. And then, you know, combined with Sakona's yards, they had 217, you know, between the three of them. Um, and then defensively, Modern Day starters held Valor to 130 yards passing, one touchdown, negative five yards rushing, um, and had 12 tackles for loss between between Vila uh defensive lineman, Vila Messifa. He had three for loss and a caused fumble. He had four tackles. Mike Davis, five tackles, two for loss. Both of Davis' came on fourth down stops, and then DJ Clanton led him with six tackles. He had two for loss, and then Judasilva also had five tackles and a sack. So um, you know, they played solidly. And then Isaiah Dans made his third pick of the year, but it was nullified on a defensive penalty. Um, and it was a nice play. He cut in front of the receiver at the goal line. Um, and then Danny Lang shadowed Notre Dame commit Jackson Coleman holding him to one catch for 14 yards before giving way to cramps. And then Coleman ended up catching six more balls on the night, including a late half, second half TD. So just to put this in perspective, you know, Valor head coach Mike Sanford, who's a former LoSau QB, you know, said the freshman QB is by far their best QB, and it ain't close. It was a he was the difference in the game. So it's out there. Everybody's seen it. I don't know why, you know, it's it's so obvious, you know, and but um we'll just have to wait and see. I mean, we'll talk more about you know this, you know, for what's in store for them uh going forward this week.
SPEAKER_03Well, that is uh some high praise from um the Valor coach, Valor Christian coach. Uh Valor, number one ranked team, uh or no, number two ranked team in Colorado. They dropped the two and one. Hey, Peyton Guess is doing what uh young players should do. Um is he's presenting his case and he's making the most of his opportunities. And you keep that up uh long enough, um, usually good things will happen for you. So he's doing what he can do. That's what he's controlling what he can tr control in terms of capitalize when you're in there and make plays, be dynamic, move the offense. That's what you want of your quarterback. We'll see. Um, because I mean the next three weeks there is a buy in here, but it is maybe you can even say the next four games are pretty brutal, uh, Scotty, where for modern day centennial, Bishop Gorman both at home back to back. They take the bye, open the Trinity League against Santa Margarita, and the best defense in the Trinity League, um, for sure, I would say. And then go down to Jay Sarah, which we just talked about, um, doing some good things that are going to cause some Trinity League teams problems, especially with their offense. Um, so should be some interesting times uh for for for modern-day among everybody, and we're where that's what we've been saying. Um, who is your player of the game, Scotty?
SPEAKER_01I actually went with Peyton Guess because it was a because this is a game of momentum. Both times he came in, he swayed the momentum, leading the scoring drive. He converted that fourth down, he looked smooth running the offense, and he did what was needed, and he made the most out of his opportunities. Uh, you know, I if I had to go like with somebody else, you know, like the defense, you know, Sasifa, who's a uh sophomore defensive tackle, um, he's actually played really well in the three games. Um it kind of under, you know, it kind of maybe undershadowed. Um, but but um if it wasn't that, he would probably be it. But I mean I'm highlighting it, you know, you know, guess for just what he's done momentum-wise, even in that limited opportunity. And we know what's needed going forward um when you're gonna be playing the the rest of the schedule because there's no more wiggle room, the dam is full, and um yeah, so that's it, then there's definitely no uh wiggle room, and we know um we know where's what Scotty's seeing out there, and we appreciate you bringing your insights to us.
SPEAKER_03Um, Scotty, this was a pretty another interesting game. Like you said, it's been been wild, but St. John Bosco did go to two and one with a 26 to 14 win in Northern California against Pittsburgh, uh, which uh falls to 101. Uh this game was certainly uh was popping up on people's radar, Scotty, big time because uh at halftime who was leading Pittsburgh was up 14-13. And uh everybody's wondering about the Braves. They did uh win the second half 13-0. So this game got on some people's radar. Um Pittsburgh's played St. John Bosco before, so people are aware of them. I think that are following the Trinity League and St. John Bosco. I mentioned how last week Pittsburgh, the Pirates, they play Mission View in a couple weeks. So um we're gonna see them down in uh in SoCal um making some noise here against the Braves. But uh speaking of running backs, uh that's the theme. Senior uh Malik Allen had another uh big game at a time that Bosco really needed it. 22 carries, Scotty, for 143 yards and a touchdown. Koa had a little bit more production this week um with a two touchdown passes, but the percentage uh completion percentage was still on a little bit on the lower side, 10 of 22 for 160 yards. But you look back at that you know running back um performance by Malik Allen and see how uh important that was. Um and it wasn't just that, uh Scotty, it was he also was their leading receiver with four catches for 61 yards and a touchdown. So um huge game for uh Malik Allen helping uh St. John Bosco rally in the second half, get the two and one. Um big spot. What was your thoughts on this one, Scotty?
SPEAKER_01Yeah, I mean, I know everyone was kind of scoreboard watching with that one for a while, you know. And you know, for the second time this season, Bosco's been down at least two TDs in the first quarter, you know. I'm thinking, you know, dating back, you know, he had to go back to that Gorman game. Yeah, you know, and um, you know, Pittsburgh actually capitalized on back-to-back Bosco turnovers in the first two series, um, giving him that 14-point lead. Uh, however, you know, the Bosco defense rallied back because they shut down Pittsburgh's offense that rest of the way, but it did wasn't easy. Um, you know, the Pittsburgh defense picked off uh Koa on a wide receiver screen pass that was kind of thrown high, tipped at the line of scrimmage, and they returned it into Bosco territory, and then a few plays later, you know, Pittsburgh uh tosses the TD, seven zip. Next Bosco series, the miscues continue because there's you know a miscommunication on the snap between Koa and the running back. The next play, Koa is sacked, he fumbles, Pittsburgh recovers at Bosco's 10-yard line, Pittsburgh connects on a six-yard TD pass. You're we're down, they're down 14-0 just like that. And you know, it's it was so uncharacteristic of a Bosco offense. I haven't seen their offense seem out of sync. Um, I mean, we're talking, you know, even last week it didn't seem right. Um, and it was probably have to be back right before Koa took over midseason when his freshman year. Um, because you know, the accuracy we've seen from Koa hasn't been there this year, um, at least early on. You know, he's had numerous you know, throws you know, overthrown to the receivers. I think he was sacked three times in this game. Um and then they had to rely on its defense and and Malik Allen, you know, and a defense that you know gave up no more than 30 yards passing after Pittsburgh scored those two touchdowns. They pressed Pittsburgh quarterback, they limited him to six of 20 passing. Um but um Pittsburgh's QB did miss. Hit, you know, he had three guys that he had wide open for deep balls that he overthrew. But other than that, they were never close. You know, they never allowed him to get closer than Bosco's 30-yard line after the first quarter. Um, and then all that Pittsburgh was able to do was they did get 150 yards rushing, but it was all between like the 30s, you know, both 30s, and they couldn't get anything closer. And then, you know, and then defense picked up the slack for the offense, you know, getting their first points when defensive lineman Samote Tupua blocked Pittsburgh's quick kick, and Dorian Franklin picked up the ball and returned it for a 43-yard score, but the extra point was missed. Um, and then later on, Malik Allen burst off tackle, did a cut back, and eluded several defenders to it for like about a 30-yard TD. And they cut the lead to 14-13, like you said, going into that half. And they regrouped um, you know, because it took its opening drive and it executed its best play of the game on a play action rollout from Koa, and he hit Cuku Muala on a cross for about 25-yard TD. And that gave Moscow its first lead 20 to 14 with 20 minutes, but uh five minutes, 30 minutes, five minutes, 30 seconds in the third. And then their last score came in the fourth when Koa hit Allen out of the backfield for a 15-yard TD to make it 26-14. So, and you know, Pittsburgh's a solid team, you know. They have they have some good athletes. You know, their deep their defense looked pretty good. They made Bosco work. Um, they put the pressure on Koa. You know, he was only 45% passing, and you know, Tubbs and Koo only had two two receptions each. Um, you know, Allen was their high guy. Um, he also had you know he had 61 yards rushing. He caught another one out of the backfield for a long gain.
SPEAKER_03Yeah.
SPEAKER_01Um, so you know, we'll have to see what you know what what Bosco does um you know with that offense going you know going the way. But as far as Pittsburgh, I mean they gave it to them, you know. You know, and like you said, you're gonna see that Pittsburgh team again when they play Mission View in a in two weeks, and that's gonna be a tough one for Mission View um, you know, to match up with this with the front and and speed um because this past week, you know, Mission View struggled against uh Folsom. Um so um and then the other you know, other side note, you know, that we have uh you know with the offensive line, yeah, um starting center Gabe Riyalobos, who's an all you know training the league O-lineman, he's actually playing right tackle. Um and so I think they were counting on Elijah Mueller being at one of those spots, tackle spots, you know, so it's interesting for them, you know, to have that shift in their O line because they're they're they're breaking in two new starters on that line, you know, as as well as not having Elijah Mueller out there. So I you know we'll have to see what his status is. I thought I saw something about him um that you know he'll be ready when the sit out comes, but you know, we'll have to wait and see um what that entails.
SPEAKER_03Yeah, the latest I have seen on Elijah Mueller, of course, is a you know junior uh standout offensive tackle transfer from servite was the CIF uh Southern Section website is uh listing him as hardship pending. So we'll see if that changes, like you said, Scotty, to a sit out um period uh which I believe is a little bit in a in a couple weeks. It's pretty pretty much toward the to the beginning of league play. Uh that would be um when he could if he did get a sit out, that's when he could play um starting in in the in the beginning of training the league. But we'll have to wait to see uh see about them. But I could definitely see. That's a key with Elijah Mueller storyline to watch. Another one I I could have mentioned uh should have mentioned with Orange Lutheran. There also had big news last week with their um outstanding junior offensive tackle, Austin Ottawa, uh their transfer from Cajon, who's a uh Texas, I think it's uh Texas AM commit. Um Texas Tech. Texas Tech, excuse me. Texas Tech Commit. Um he was ruled, he didn't he was denied by the Southern section varsity eligibility for in his transfer from Cajon, and he received limited eligibility to play in the JV level or lower. So that was quite a um blow because um you know Orange Lutheran had designs of having two outstanding tackles in Lucas Roa, Texas commit, and then Austin, you know, one of the arguably the top junior linemen in the state of California. Um so the word is from Orange Lutheran is that they've been told that Austin is going to appeal. So we'll see what happens with um that transfer um story. The appeals can take some time, um, and they are their percentages are against you when you appeal your decision uh on these uh rulings by the southern section. The players actually appeal to the CIF state office. That's where it goes. And there's a waiting period uh until there's a response, and they go from there. So um it's it's uh and the the odds are usually against the appeal being successful, but we'll see what happens uh on both these guys, both two junior uh outstanding junior linemen to watch. Um and thanks for bringing up Elijah Mueller, uh Scotty, with that one. All right, hey, two more games to get to um Scotty as we uh recap um last week. Want to go toward Santa Margarita that remained uh undefeated and moved to 3-0 with a 55-7 victory against Highland. This is one that we expected, Scotty. We expected it to be um lopsided. It was. Um, we've expected Santa Margarita's defense to dominate, which they uh continue to do. It was 48-0 um going into the fourth quarter, Scotty. Um, I was earlier talking about you know who's uh scored the most points so far in the Treaty League as a team. Mentioned it was Jay Sarah. Who's given up the least points? By far, it's Santa Margarita. They've only allowed 27 points in three games, Scotty. Um, and this game certainly um helped their cause. Um, but it was going to be an um overmatched um opponent for sure in um Highland. You know, positives for Santa Margarita was sophomore, uh, excuse me, junior quarterback Fletch Palmer in his third start, you know, didn't have the most prolific passing game against Centennial on that win, but Fletch Palmer is 3-0 as a starter, and he was sharp in this game passing. I'm sure this is what Santa Margarita wanted to see, some more continued development from the first year starter. He was 11 for 14, 126 yards, and two touchdowns. Santa Margarita didn't have to um push um their standout sophomore running back too much in uh Adrian uh Patero, who is a workhorse against Centennial. This time he just had six carries for 63 yards, two touchdowns. Um, so and they spread it out. Um Fletch uh spread it out. Also, they gave uh some time to um Matt Smith um as well, but Santa Margie's passing attack um spread it out. Uh leading receiver uh Grant Van uh Raphorst, four catches for 91 yards, one of his uh best games. Uh Ryan Clark caught a touchdown, and so did uh standout freshman um Kayan Callas. But what did you have on this one, Scotty?
SPEAKER_01You know, the only surprise was that Highland scored seven, you know, even even against you know uh Santa Margarita backups. You know, this was a get well game. If there was any guys they needed to get well, uh work on your offense, you know, get some timing down, get some kids some playing time, you know, not much in this one. Um, and you know, the next couple, well, I'd say at least maybe the next game is probably gonna be be much of the same. Um, I think they they brought up some some other freshman kids because there was another kid who's he's he's not as highly touted as as the Fab Four that they have, but he's still uh uh one of their you know better freshmen. Uh Devian Miller. Um he's an athlete, and I think he led him in tackles. Um so I think he was playing you know either at like a strong safety or outside backer. Um but uh I yeah, he hadn't been on their radar, he hadn't been on their radar. I hadn't seen him on the on their roster, so they must have to you know just brought him up this this week. So um, but yeah, that was pretty much it on that game.
SPEAKER_03Yeah, and I'm glad you mentioned uh Daveon, D'Tavion Miller, um freshman, 5'10, 190, and these were um indeed his first stats, uh four solo tackles, two assists uh for a team high um uh six total tackles. So for a team loaded with uh standout freshmen that are starting, um including three on defense, um this is uh notable progress that um just shows you how strong of a freshman class that uh second year coach Carson Palmer um attracted one year after SM winning D1 state, rising to number one in Orange County, they they they by far got the best freshman class and it's starting to pay dev uh continues to pay dividends as they blend um you know, especially on defense. Here's another defender, Scotty. This is a defense that you know um re only returns two starters, and um there's one they're gonna lose one senior starter potentially off this defense, Scotty, which is pretty scary. Um if or if I'm mistaken, I could be wrong on that. Um I know Isaiah Vandermaid's a senior who's starting. Who's the other senior who's starting?

SPEAKER_01I think Nunez is a senior. I may be wrong. I thought he was. Maybe I might be wrong.
SPEAKER_03I think uh I think and I've seen different things listed on Cruz Nelson, and he is indeed a senior. Uh, you're right. Um, he's he's looking great, 6'3, 230, outside linebacker. Yeah. So they could potentially um return a lot on that defense. Um, but like you said, for this particular week, we knew it was going to be lopsided. Um, one more game to cover, Scotty. This was a tight one. Um, kind of flew under the radar, perhaps, but this is a good game, and that was uh another Arizona versus Trina League team, and this was Centennial of Arizona coming in to Orange County, defeating Survite 22-14. This game was at La Marada, and it was a tightly contested game, Scotty. We were talking a little bit about it, you know, um off-air as we got into uh our show. Survite uh entered the fourth quarter leading 14-13, and then it kind of unraveled with a safety and a touchdown, and that was uh um, I think you're gonna you're gonna break it down. There was just a few plays that really decide uh decided it, but that beginning sequence of the fourth quarter was key. Um but as far as positives for uh servite, which does fall to one and two, um Jordan Wells got it, continues to be a very big positive uh running back um junior, 16 carries for 158 yards and a touchdown. And we mentioned all these Trina League backs um from the Will Fredericksons, Adrian Pateros, Malik Allen, Ryan Christensen, Asir Nebhard. The one guy of all those everybody's running the ball so well, running back in the Trina League, Jordan Wells is the one who's three for three on hundred-yard rushing games. So he's been very consistent, and that was huge where uh servite struggled to get much passing game going. Uh you mentioned the the struggles of uh the modern day passing game with some of the yardage. Um so it was a tough game yardage-wise for Geno Wang, nine of seventeen for 53 yards, that's all for the passing. But with Jordan Wells rushing the ball, you know, uh for 158 yards, um you know, survey finished with over 226 yards rushing, including some contributions from Geno Wang, um Alan Connette, um and uh junior uh Parker Coven. So they just didn't get much passing uh game. You know, they got Ben Harris four catches, but for only 23 yards. So um it was a tightly contested game. Um came down to some fourth quarter, so it's got to be a tough one for Survite to s uh swallow because they're you know they're one and two. Um they're the only team in the Trinity so far that's got a losing record. Um they don't want to be there. They're plus minus on on scoring. Well, they have played a tough schedule for sure, um, you know, opening with Centennial of Corona. They're only plus four. They've scored 77 points and they've given up 73. So they have a tight margin of window. Um tough schedule, but what was your breakdown on this one, Scotty?
SPEAKER_01Yeah, you know, this one came down to who made more big plays who could get the home run big play. Because between both teams' touchdowns, three of the four TDs went for more than 60 yards, and then the fourth TD went for 32. But that was all the offense. Neither team could move the ball with consistency. Both defense put the clamps on each other. You know, if not for Jordan Wells, Servite probably would have been shut out. Um, Wells scored its first T on a 78-yard punt return and later on a 77-yard run that ended up giving Servite the lead 14-13. You know, and then because the passing game struggled on the night from protection and efficiency, Wayne was sacked eight times by Centennial. Um, Wayne didn't complete a pass more than 11 yards. He was eight of 16 for 35 yards and an interception. And then, you know, Servite's defense limited Centennial offense as well. You know, they contained the running and the passing, holding them to 50% passing. Uh Caleb Avia had an interception uh that stopped the drive. Um, they just gave up three big plays. That was it, you know, and um, and then and then um centennial capitalized on the one survey turnover. Uh Centennial scored on its first TD on a tightest hill pass to his brother Teron Hill that went 64 yards, and Hill split the corner in the safety, who got over there late, missed, missed Hill, and he kind of slid back, cut inside, and um you know, scored the touchdown. You know, then Centennial missed the extra point. Um and then eventually, then Centennial's next score came off of uh a servite fumble. They scooped it and returned it to the servite 19-yard line, and then they scored on a five-yard pass um, you know, to cut the lead to 14-13. Um, and then Centennial's third score was a setup by a series of momentum swings. So Centennial takes the short servite uh punt to the servite two-yard line, but the next play, Centennial's running back can't hold the handoff, and Servite recovers at the one-yard line. And then Servite gives it right back when the running back is tackled in the end zone for uh safety for two points. So Servite was in the you know the shotgun. And I always wonder why teams get in the shotgun at their own one-yard line because I I've seen more botch snaps, I've seen more you know things that go wrong, you know, get under center, sneak it out for some room, then run your offense, you know. But teams want to, you know, try to do the opposite, and um it kind of came back and botched them. But you know, and then later Centennial added a 32-yard run from their running back who went down the sideline, and um, you know, their sit Servite safety came and had a shot at him, and he overpursued, and the running back gave a little juke on and on him and cut back on him in the end zone, made it 22-14 Centennial. So, and then Survite had two opportunities to score. They had a turnover on downs, and then you know, Centennial picked off Wang with 25 seconds left in the game. Um but you know, Survite you know has that home run capability with with Wells, but they just need to get him some help. You know, they just they need to figure out their what they want to do with their passing game because it's gonna get tough where you know, like we said, with these one-dimensional teams that can't throw the ball, um, they're just gonna, you know, you know, bog down on that, on that um run game.
SPEAKER_03So yeah. All right, I'm sure Jordan Wells is your player of the uh of the game of this one, right?
SPEAKER_01Yeah, yeah, because of his what you know, those two TDs, and you know, he continued with this 11.1 average rushing. So, and I believe he is the he's the uh Orange County's leading rusher now, um going into week three.
SPEAKER_03So tremendous. All right, Scotty. So going in speaking of week three, let's take a look at the schedule. It's actually spread up uh spread across three days. Um pretty interesting one. Of course, uh the game of the week uh coming up on Friday. We'll get to that uh momentarily, but uh I'll lay out the schedule a little bit here, uh Scotty, um overview, and then we'll ask you uh your thoughts. Um Jay Sarah plays on Thursday. They got the short week coming off the uh the big win against Kreen Lutheran. Jay Sarah, two and one at home against Oaks Hill. Uh Oaks Oak Hills, excuse me, that is two and one. Oak Hills is an interesting team, Scotty. They are a predominantly rushing team, and uh they beat Rancho Cucamonga last week in a nice win. So um, and Jay Sarah beat Oak Hills last year in a close one, like a three-point victory uh on the road. Jay Sarah's home. So a little bit of a matchup of rushing um teams in that one uh with what we've seen from Jay Sarah. But that's gonna be a tough game, I think, for Jay Sarah. That's no uh no easy game for sure. Friday, um servite hosting um St. Paul. Uh Kahuku of Hawaii coming in to take on St. John Bosco. Cahuku is uh 3-1. Moderday in the game of the week is playing host at uh Santa Ana Stadium to Centennial. Centennial coming off the bye. The Huskies haven't played since they lost that that uh one-point game to Santa Margarita, which uh ended up being up on a block PAT by uh Jake Martin. Um I don't know if we had that name last time, but uh that's who ended up having that key extra point block in the fourth quarter that sealed the win, um, among other big plays. Orange Lutheran goes on the road on Friday and takes on Sarah of Gardena. Uh Sarah Gardena 2-1 coming off a win against Los Alamitos. And then schedule uh concludes Saturday, uh, Scotty, and that's Santa Margarita. This game's gonna be at San Juan Hills, kick off 8 o'clock, uh, according to the uh Orange County officials website, um, as the Eagles play at San Juan Hills uh against Inder. Uh Inder come from Northern California. Uh they are one and one. Um Santa Margarita's been playing their home games at Saddleback College, but the um the Bobcot Bobcats, now that they're known, um, have a home game, I believe. So that's not available to them. And interesting enough, um San Juan Hills is hosting several game, uh a couple games on Friday. So if uh I'm excuse me on Saturday. So if you roll over to the Santa Margarita game, you know, that if you go to that eight o'clock game at San Juan Hills Stadium, you might see the end of Inglewood against Franklin um from Elk Grove. Um and earlier in the day, Marystar um plays uh this triple header at one o'clock. So um interesting uh schedule there. But Scotty, I know that the game of the week is definitely modern day centennial. It's also the max preps um game of the week. Um but I know that's uh probably worth a uh you know a breakdown on that one. What's your thoughts on that one at first glance?
SPEAKER_01With the modern day game first, yeah.
SPEAKER_03What do you got on that one?
SPEAKER_01So yeah, you know, Centennial and Modern Day are you know, when you look at the national rankings, they're pretty close and similar. Uh, you know, depending on which national rankings you go, they're right right about nine, between nine and twelve. Um, you know, if you're going off of that. But you know, I think Centennial needed that that buy after losing to Santa Margarita this week, you know, you know, that yeah, last week, two weeks ago. Um, they do have that opening win versus servite, you know, and Centennial showed that it still has the weapons and solid secondary. You know, they almost pulled that win off over Santa Margarita, but they also have some issues with its offensive line. Um, they're having issues at center. I believe that they're waiting for transfer Brody Black to be cleared from Survite. And I think they kind of maybe had him penciled in. They also have two starters on the line that went down. So I don't know if those guys will be back or if they they've they've you know shored that up because obviously in the Santa Margarita game, it it kind of you know hurt them in that game. So and then there will be some good you know matchups. We're gonna see Danny Lang and Quentin Hale probably. Yeah. Um, you know, we saw Caran Williams, Shadow Hale. So I would probably expect to look for Lang for the most part. You know, you could probably see Bishop um also as well, you know, on him, and even maybe Isaiah Dance, because you know, all three of those guys are are are solid in their man-to-man coverage. So, but you know, will Modern Day have enough pressure to get on Jefferson, you know, because Modern Day's front to me isn't as quick as Santa Margarita's. So I think that's gonna be interesting to see. Um, and then besides that, you know, for Modern Day, you know, we've already talked about their biggest question mark, you know, what's gonna happen with with you know the quarterbacks, you know, they can't be one-dimensional, you know, they're gonna have to get something out of that passing game. Um, because Nemhart and Allen, you know, as tough as they are, you know, you can't just rely on that. You know, we already said, you know, guest brings a different look. Um, if he doesn't play, it could get it could get lopsided, it could get out of hand. Um, you know, we'll just have to wait and see. Modern day's also gonna have to play clean game, mistake-free game, can't give you know uh the Huskies second chances. And same could be said with with Centennial. You know, they don't, you know, they they made mistakes too. They can't give those, you know, make those mistakes either. But I think they have more wiggle room than Modern Day does. So um, you know, I I you know I I have Centennial winning this one, you know. But um, you know, we'll see how you know Modern Days, you know, we'll factor in the QBs, what they end up doing. But you know, I like I said earlier in our report, like guests gives them a better chance. Uh, you know, but we'll just have to wait and see.
SPEAKER_03Yeah. You know, I should um going back on um or continuing with Friday uh schedule. The uh I think Survite has got a potential to you know get a nice bounce back uh and feel a little bit better than about themselves. I think they can beat St. Paul. That game's gonna be at Orange Coast College. I know the Friars are kind of bouncing around a little bit as far as where they're playing their games. Um, that was an interesting one. Um, why they think they can feel pretty good. Um, these teams are pretty old school rivalries um going back to the early 60s when they started to play. Their first time these teams these two schools played was in 1961. And the all-time series, Scotty, is tied uh 18 wins uh for both teams in one tie. So um that's something that I'm sure um Servite uh can you know feel good about. I think they'll get that win um as expected. You know, obviously Kahuku and and Bosco have a pretty good rivalry. Um St. John Bosco looking to have some better first quarters, as you alluded to, Scotty. Uh, but as far as those Friday games, is it any of those games uh jump out at you a little bit?
SPEAKER_01Um you know the Kahuku game is interesting, um just from a standpoint that they are they are three and one, uh, but they are coming off of a twenty eight twenty one loss to. uh NorCal Sarah. And you know, Sarah lost to De La Salle in its opener. So you know Kahuku always plays, you know, always plays, you know, whether it be modern day or or Bosco, they always play in tough, but they always seem to just be missing. But the way the dynamics are for um you know the way Bosco is going with their, you know, they haven't been just the machine that Bosco has been in the early games that we used to see. So that one could be you know that could be interesting because they definitely Kohu has the you know the guys that can play with them, whether or not it's speed and skills remains to be seen. And then just touching on um you know the you know St. Paul is an interest is is you know St. Paul you can't blame them for their schedule because it was made before its new coach took over but you know you could argue that it's probably one of the toughest non-league schedules for a you know non-D team or lower. You know, lost they've lost a Bishop of Mont 55-0 Mich video 2077 and 12. You know I think it'll be somewhat similar but you know Survite you know I I think you know can get some playing time you probably see JD Wells maybe pat his yards per average um maybe get some passing yards from Wayne but yeah you know that that one servite should be able to take care take care of um and then um a little on um I was going to touch basis on the rest of them. Yeah um you know uh intercom you know they're coming off a 35-6 win over Pleasant Valley they have a 28-12 loss to a desert Christian academy so it kind of gives you an idea where what we're talking about they are considered the 87th ranked team in California they were 9-2 last year um and they they probably their best guy that they return is is their 5'11 quarterback he's a 2000 yard passer he has 27 touchdowns uh 61% last year but he lost a lot of its experienced receivers and I believe he has a twin brother that's that's that's a running back receiver that he's been uh in the early going it looks like he's he's their their number one guy but I don't you know that one it'll be pretty similar to what we saw last week um the uh the Oak Hills game with with with Jay Serra is very interesting like you said they had the upset win over ranch cookamonga 2517 um that's kind of considered the uh like an upset you know they're low and their but their only loss is to Bishop of Mott a couple weeks in week one where they lost 22 to three and Bishop Amott is kind of an you know we're gonna see somebody's gonna see them later on so you know they're kind of an another team that's kind of like on the uprise to see how good really they are you know um so we're gonna have some measuring yeah you know who's gonna see them next you know who Jay Sarah plays next after Oak Hills is that then Amott it is Bishop Amott because that's another measuring stick game for both of these these teams so um look forward to that one um and then the last one was was there was orge Lutheran taking on Sarah which Sarah's not the same Sarah that everyone's used to seeing I I believe they're down even though they're they're that ranking 30th in California I think it's inflated um you know they have wins over 49 to 12 over Hamilton LA Hamilton and then they just beat Losal 34 or 22 and they had to come from behind and neither of those teams are very good. In fact I'm gonna say that Losal is going to go winless this year when you look at their schedule um and then you know Olu Olu's probably gonna get a lopsided win they'll probably you know get the shutout um but um I think that's what we're Losal uh winless I got to check the rest of their schedule I mean yes I don't I mean I wow I got I mean if they're not gonna beat Edison or not going to get anybody in um nope so yeah it's yeah they're they have issues yeah I watched that game you know and I you know I couldn't believe that I was like you know and Sarah was down and they still came you know this that that game was tough to watch I I couldn't believe that they picked that for the game of the week um because you know that they were based off of Losa being a division one you know like being a uh CAF champ but they're champ duty yeah they didn't do their homework you know yeah they bring back the running back but they didn't do their homework enough um you know Sarah had a lot of guys leave um so that that game should have shouldn't have been picked they should have put another game on but um you know I think you're trying to they try to get representation but but yeah so yeah do yeah check that out because I yeah they flashed that schedule up and I was like I don't think Ola South is going to win a game so that's tough but it is what it is.
SPEAKER_03Yeah hey Scott I'm glad you brought brought up Bishop amont did you mention that I mean you said they were um definitely rising in the team to watch did you mention that they beat Oak Hills right uh yes yeah so that's this is a you know measuring stick um you know again you know Bishop Ammont um their performance against Oaks Hills is another matchup you know to watch the score for J Sarah on Thursday because they play Bishop um Bishop Amont next so it's gonna be interesting because I think Bishop Amont is going to be uh four and oh um undefeated uh when they take on Jay Sarah and that game is uh on September eighteenth and maybe J Sarah's three and one and playing some really good ball and one three straight and that's a that's a really uh good game between the training league and the mission league.
SPEAKER_01Um so obviously Jay Sarah has played one uh mission league team um and you know and really good one in Sierra Canyon um so um which is a team that that same weekend right uh Sierra Canyon's gonna be playing Orange Lutheran um so there's gonna be some uh interesting things going on but Scotty so many uh interesting things this week that we broke down um you know from everything you mentioned about the significance of Jay Sarah's win against Kreen Lutheran and your breakdown of the you know Orange Lutheran and and honor Johnson and Modern Day's quarterback uh situation and Bosco's first hand first quarter stuff I mean there's a lot uh wildness even though the Trinity did well there's so much to talk about yeah it's it's different than you know it's like they've come down from you know Bosco Modern Day and you know the pack they were just so they were they were separated from everybody else and you know it was just you know just it it it's a different type of excitement um you know because there's other teams that are that are now that are that are like closing the gap. Not you know we're not gonna say that they're they're quite there yet but there's it it's gonna make things you know a little bit more interesting as you know I know we keep saying a little bit more interesting we're gonna have to come up with with with something else to use but um but yeah every week is is uh you know just gets more and more to to talk about and break down and it you know it's I think that's what everybody kind of wanted to see.
