What is up, everybody, and welcome back to the Trinity League Football Podcast. I'm your host, Dan Albano with the Orange County Register and OC Varsity, and I'm joined by our insider, Scotty Barajas. We are recording our show on Monday, September 14th, 2026. And just want to welcome everybody back to the Trinity League Football Podcast. It's great to have you with us. It is a very big week in the Trinity League. Um and it believe it or not, it's this is for most uh intents and purposes, for most of the teams this week is the final week of non-league games. They'll take their bye, and then the Trinity League uh season will be upon us. It's gone that quickly. And not only that, Scotty, there's some huge games this week, including another big one for Modern Day against uh Bishop Gorman of Las Vegas, but we have a lot to uh recap, including Modern Day's you know, um defensively um grudge match with Centennial, Monarchs winning 10-9. So a lot to re uh recap, Scotty, a lot to preview, and believe it or not, non-league season is is almost over. How are you doing tonight?
SPEAKER_01Yeah, it's another one that's I'm doing well, first of all. So, but it's another game, another week that's you know flown by. You know, we've enjoyed these games and we've watched them, and uh some craziness has happened, but uh yeah, it's one away and then a bye week for most, and then we're you know, we're into the grind of uh uh the Trinity Gauntlet.
SPEAKER_02So yeah, and that gauntlet will be here October, Friday, October 2nd. Um, the calendar is uh quickly approaching um there, but there's a lot to recap. You know, a week uh uh we're coming off a six-in-o week for the Trinity League teams, Modern Day with the big win against Centennial, Santa Margarita and St. John Bosco both rolling. Orange Lutheran and Jay Sarah won their third straight games and servite got to the 500 mark with a with a decisive win against St. Paul. But again, want to welcome everybody back. Um, and thank you for however you're listening to the show. Hopefully you have subscribed by now. Um but thank you for whatever platform and wherever you are listening. Scotty, we have some listeners that are you know all over the you know the United States, um, even some in Europe and Asia. So wherever you are, thank you for tuning in, making the Trinity League part of your day. Maybe you're driving to a game and you're listening to us getting ready for some exciting Friday night uh action. So, Scotty, I want to take you to uh the modern day game on Friday. We both took it in that 10-9 win against Centennial, and it was really both teams played well, but the modern day defense just a little bit better, forcing three turnovers, recording seven sacks, showing their speed. Um, that was a big part of this game. How Modern Day won with an interception of a shovel pass by linebacker Mike Davis, led to a winning touchdown run by quarterback Russell Saconia. Monarchs uh later uh forced a uh a missed field goal in in late in the fourth quarter that helped seal the win. So Centennial certainly had its chances to win. They suffer the Huskies suffer their second one-point loss to a Trinity League team. They also lost to Santa Margarita by one point. And you know, of course, uh the modern day offense, you know, needed a lot of help from its defense um because Centennial played well. Modern day still using the three-quarterback situation between Sacona, who I mentioned, Peyton Guess was definitely a spark as a freshman, and uh Cameron Pooley uh started the game. But uh Pooley is a senior, Saconia is a is a junior, and Peyton Guess is a f uh freshman. But uh it was really the story of the defense. Um DJ Clanton, um senior linebacker, three sacks, Scotty. Um you know that was really impressive. Um I think he had a total of 11 total tackles to lead the modern day defense, and Davis had eight. Um but uh and that's against a good centennial team what's got some definitely has some speed um in in and Jaden Jefferson, their dual threat wide receiver, and of course, um what they have at Quentin Hale at wide receiver, the USC commit. Uh Jaden Jefferson committed to Hawaii, and he he played really well. Uh he's a tough matchup. But Scotty, what was your take on this game?
SPEAKER_01Yeah, you know, you touched on it right off the bat, you know, it was the defense that made more than enough stops, you know, forcing those turnovers, you know, to win the game, but it came down to a centennial missed field goal and then a big third down conversion from Peyton Guess for Modern Day to still, you know, to steal that one-point win. And you know, Modern Day almost wasted away a great defensive point performance with its musical QBs, you know, and the questionable play calls. But it's obvious I think Modern Day has found its quarterback with Guess. He just now needs he just needs to get more reps in practice, build offense around him, get that continuity with the line, you know, and its running backs. You know, it showed that he's been only taking a third of the reps in practice. And, you know, even with him in, you know, you see you saw that that some of the the with the snaps were off, the timing, the fumble in your center, those issues go away with more reps, more when you know, being able to game plan around him. Uh, I you know, I know that this is a big week and we'll we'll see, and I know they have a buy next week. So, you know, we'll have to see what transpires uh going forward, but you can't deny his playmaking ability and the vision on the field, that fourth down play to Gavin Honori, you know, I guess his first series, you know, it shows you his downfield vision, you know, except for our quarterbacks are told never throw cross field, you know. But that kid has demoxy and you know he made it, you know, he got it there, you know, and uh but Centennial's defense is no slouch and they made him work and they got after him, you know. Uh, you know, you know, he probably could, you know, he didn't have his you know greatest stats or anything. They didn't get any offensive touchdowns with the man, you know, but the speed of the game is different, you know, and he's gonna have to adjust to that. But I think you know the time, you know, will you know will come with that, you know? And then who would have thought that you would have been able to hold a Logan offense to one touchdown? You know, the trio of DJ Clanton, Mike Davis, Ezekiel Sue, you know, they brought their A game. And um, you know, Modern Day brought pressure, uh, something that we haven't seen all year. They did some things differently. Mike Davis, who's been playing inside, moved outside, um, opposite of Clanton, you know, and the trio uh combined for six sacks, eight tackles for loss, the two turnovers. Sue added pressure up that middle. He had two sacks, and then um an underrated performance is uh is Isaiah Dance. He added a late uh sack, was it looked like it was more of a scramble, but but it was it was rated a sack. He had four tackles, but all four tackles were big open field tackles for like no gains. Um and you know, that modern-day defense showed a sense of urgency and they played fast, they looked better than they had in these past few games. Um, you know, Danny Lang contained Hale. He only allowed two catches in that first series. He actually batted the ball away that should have been an interception by Ace Lutelli. Ace came down with the ball, and when he was on his back, he was down, the bobble ball kind of bobbled up. Hale rolled over, taking the ball, you know, looking like it could have been a catch, and they ruled it a catch, but it was clear that that it was an intercept. Um, you know, and that actually led to um Centennial's only TD, you know, because they scored on that series, you know, and then later Lang reforced, you know, returned to forced femmble by David King, and he suffered a bruised thigh and he had to lose lead the game and didn't return in the second half as it tightened up on him. So then you know, we saw Troy Bishop on hail, and you know, he only gave up two catches uh on hail. Hale finished four for 80. They did just enough to contain him, didn't let him get anything really big. Um, you know, but Modern Day kind of escaped with that win. I think Centennial had the critical turnovers and mistakes. Still, you know, if they make that field goal, they're away from taking the lead and the potential win. You know, so you know, they got another big one next. You know, Modern Day still has a lot of things I think they need to clean up besides of its rotation of QBs. They are rotating centers, and we've seen inconsistent snaps. You got to settle on one, you know, with these rotating QBs and the rotating centers. I mean, there's just no continuity. You know, you know, the QBs get get accustomed to one. And, you know, and and there's no freshman game this week. So going forward with Guess, um, and he's got to probably be a varsity-only QB going forward, you know, and then modern day's got to do something with the its scheme, you know, play calling, it seems predictable, outdated. It's just a matter of time. The lack of innovation is gonna catch up with them, even if guess is the QB. You know, at some point, Laura's gonna need to ask for help with the offense, not rely on his calls because this is not working. Um, you know, they're not producing enough yards, you know. Again, you know, they're they think they were under 150 total offensive yards again, fourth game under 100 yards passing, and it's only gonna get tougher and against better coaching in these Trinity League games. But, you know, again, you lean on the defense, and what can you say is, you know, at least that defense is playing lights out.
SPEAKER_02So yeah. Well, um speaking of um lights out, um let us hear a little bit from Peyton Guess uh about um playing uh sometimes twice in a week, uh back-to-back days, uh from the freshman football to varsity. I got a chance to check out, catch up with Peyton Guess after the game.
SPEAKER_00Um well I prep uh I prepare for this moments like this may not get it all the time, but I gotta make the most of my opportunities. Yeah. So just having opportunities like that and making play like that, that's just something I'm preparing and turn for.
SPEAKER_03Seemed like you uh were close to getting some connections this uh this game and um you're gonna some rapport with the game. I can tell them that's what um what a battle for you in this game, right? I mean made some made some great plays, they got the fumble money, but you keep on battle, like you for the first money. How do you feel about just mixing it up and and and play to the end? I mean they they they put some trust in you. Then you can battle in you. Yeah, exactly. How are you feeling internally, Peyton? Are you feeling nervous about there?
SPEAKER_00Or is it most definitely feeling nervous? That's natural. Oh, yeah, right? That's just a natural feeling uh you have as a young player in big situations. Yeah, exactly, Peyton.
SPEAKER_02All right, Scotty, since we've been talking so much about Peyton guests, I thought it would be good to uh uh have uh a little bit of voice from the young freshmen uh on our podcast. Um, you know, one thing about uh modern days record, um Scotty, and some of their competition. I mean, yes, uh the Treaty League um is gonna be could be you know definitely looking tougher with you know Santa Margarita on the schedule, you know, opening, you know, the uh Eagles are four and oh, St. John Bosco at the at the yeah at the end, um you know, Orange Lutherans off to a very good start um as well one three straight. But I would say that modern-day American Fork is four-and-one. Um they're playing pretty well. Um they're solid, Valor's solid, we know Centennial, so I I think while they are struggling, like you said, with the 150 uh total yards, they are playing some pretty good competition. Um I would say Orim and and Valor are you could say that they're on the level of a J Sarah servite. Could you not?
SPEAKER_01Possibly. I mean, they are, you know, those records are um, you know, at least they're not, you know, two and you know, you know, one and two, one and three, like some other teams that, you know, that other teams that played that you know, we'll we'll talk about a little bit later. But but um yeah, it's it's it is kind of interesting because of the fact that, you know, like I said, modern day, you know, you know, gave up a lot of points, but the offense also gave up a lot of those points that made the numbers skewed. Um but um you know the the offense had you know that I I don't think I've seen anything on on those levels as far as their that did defensively that have that have should have contained that modern day offense. I mean, we did see a seer run, you know, for um, you know, for these last those two first two games for like you know, he was up to like 300 plus yards. Well, the last two games they've kind of you know contained him because they know that that was all Modern Day had. And against Centennial, they were running straight into that eight-man front, you know, and that was another thing. It's like you got to get him, you know, in space. And I know Mark Allen was running the ball straight dives up the middle and had space. Now Sear has that space, he's he's getting more yardage than Mark Allen. So it just happens to be weird sometimes. The the how how the game flows, that the running backs and stuff, they get the different, but they're also keen on a seer, you know. So so you know, you know, it could be uh, you know, like I said, those those teams have have you know are winning and their their their modern days non-league records is a lot stronger than a lot of these other teams. So, you know, you know, it could be you know possible.
SPEAKER_02So in some ways, I I would say the way it's turned out, and I know you we were talking off the air about how some of Orange Lutheran's schedule is kind of doesn't look so good. The resume of competition in the non-league doesn't look so good because for one, Basha had a very bad loss, as you pointed out, um, last week, a very lopsided loss to Pinnacle in State. It was like 40 to 7. Um, and that really that hurts Orange Lutheran schedule uh in some ways, and then you know Sarah Gardena isn't what they've used to be uh in the past either. So those games kind of come down. Even Cathedral Catholics uh lost again as well. Um but that and I say that to say that maybe Modern Day has the best schedule. Um it's probably gonna be the best schedule non-league in terms of the caliber, you know, but you know, beginning to end compared to anybody in the tree league. I mean, it's you know, because obviously it's gonna be up there again with Bishop Gorman, and uh that's a team that Bosco played, and uh the Gales got all over Bosco before Bosco mounted its comeback. So um I do think modern-day schedule um has probably been the toughest in the league and probably has something to do with some of the struggles, but I definitely hear you. Hey, um want to move on to Santa Margarita. Uh Eagles get to uh 4-0, and they beat um a team from uh Northern California, Indocurm, uh 41-0. That was uh Santa Margarita's second uh shutout. Of course, they opened the season with a shutout win against Jones of Florida. They got another one this time, and leading the charge was a guy, uh sophomore running back. We've talked a lot about him, Adrian uh Pitero, uh 12 carries for 101 yards, so he averaged about eight and a half yards a carry, and he scored four touchdowns. So um that's his second 100-yard rushing game uh of the season, and uh the four touchdowns are season high. Um so that was a big part of this win besides uh the defense. Um Fletch Palmer was uh was the completion percentage was good at you know 60, pretty much 70 percent. He was 16 of 23 um for 216 yards. Uh this is only his fourth start. Uh one touchdown, two picks. Um and uh speaking of the uh the fabulous freshman for Santa Margarita, I'm sure you probably saw that freshman uh wide receiver uh Kayan uh Callas had eight catches for 111 yards and a touchdown. Um so Scotty, 4-0 for Santa Margarita. We expected this one. Um they have a better competition uh this week, but what did you have on this one uh for Santa Margarita?
SPEAKER_01Yeah, so I know this game was Saturday night, you know, and I know a lot of people were were watching um, you know, SC and many, you know, all those, you know, college football games. But yeah, you know, he had an awesome game, you know. But we all knew that, you know, he did those things all fall of last year, so that's no surprise. But uh, but if you were, you know, if you saw the halftime score, you might have wondered, you know, okay, maybe this intercrumb can play with Santa Margarita, but that wasn't the case. Uh uh because it was only 14 zip at half, you know. Um and Santa Margarita, you know, they got off the slow first half start, you know, they slow that included two Fletch Palmer interceptions, you know, and so that kind of took them you know out of the scores opportunities, uh, slowed the offense down, but the defense pretty much toyed with the NorCow team. You know, it made them a miserable night for their offense for three quarters. Um the Eagles then rolled to 28 points in the second half, and they got their second consecutive running clock on the heels of Adrian Petero's four TDs, and I literally mean the heels. So, you know, what could have been could be the candidate for play of the year? I don't know if people have seen that, they've probably seen it out there on social media. You know, Petero takes a pitch down the left side and the defender goes low to tackle him, and Petero is like, he's already so low to the ground that he gets catapulted up in the air. He flips over, lands on the defender's back, kind of slides off, maintaining his footing and momentum, running continuously for a 20-yard, which appeared to be a TD, but the ref ruled him out at the at the three-yard line. I mean, and it was like I mean, it was like it was, I mean, yeah, I couldn't believe it. I was like, he did not, you know, it was all one continuous motion, you know, highlight of the night, you know, and that led to Patero's 101 yards, 8.4 per rush. Um, but and you know, Intercom was, I think, you know, in over their heads, you know, on that first series from the start, uh, KJ Kernden Herndon dropped in coverage, the freshman defensive man, and picked off the quarterback at the 15-yard line, and then you know, um, you know, they punched it in and you know, all uh and um the Eagles continued defensively continued to keep um you know Endercum on their heels. Um they held them the the starting Eagle defense held them to negative five yards total offense. They only had one sack, but they were put in constant pressure, and nobody could block Kingston Jamerson if not for the mobility of Endercom's QBs. Santa Margarita would have racked multiple sacks. They were credited with like seven hurries, um, but I thought it was more. I mean, the QB got rid of the ball just as quick as it was snapped. I mean, he wanted no part of that oncoming rush. Um, Indercom's biggest gains of the night, believe it or not, came on three Santa Margarita unsportsman-like penalties, you know, aided for 45 yards, but they still couldn't get a first down. That wasn't aided by a penalty. Not until the fourth quarter when all the backups came in. So, and then it wasn't a walk in the park for SM because Jayon Smith left the game early in the first quarter after a wicked collision while attempting a tackle on a crossing receiver. It was a bang bang play. Um looked like Smith may have got bent back, you know, took a knee to the head. He was he was he was on the ground for a long time, but he they did walk off with health. It was good to see him get up. Um, and um, you know, because Santa Margarita also was playing without Isaiah Van Der Raid, who was suited up, but he didn't play. Ryan Clark was out, not suited up on the sidelines, looked like he was had an ankle, he wasn't you know, gimpy, looked gimpy. Um so you know, Santa Margarita doesn't have a lot of key quality depth, but I will say that sophomore Emmanuel Logan that filled in for Smith um recorded two tackles for loss and had five tackles. So I mean he was pretty active. So, you know, at least on that standpoint, for me, you know, they have that. But as far as all their other spots, um because in that second half, just on a side note, they did get the running clock, but Santa Margarita's backups couldn't get off the field. Endercrum took the whole 12 minutes on with their offense and ran and went down the you know, down all the way to the 10-yard line, had two penalties and then threw a pick to end the game. So Santa Margarita's offense never, you know, backups never got to go in. So it was kind of a uh an interesting, scary look that you know those backup guys. Um, you know, I don't like I said, I already knew that they didn't have like the the quality of depth, but that's something to look at because if those big guys
SPEAKER_02guys key guys get you know go down it's gonna be it's gonna be tough but we know how injuries work it's just a part of the game and you just gotta make do so it's just it's it's an offer observation you know just to keep an eye on so yeah and that maybe that was uh probably if if that was probably a good spot for some of those guys to maybe get a a a breather uh against uh against that foe so um you know with the Eagles got a bigger game this week against Norco and then they'll probably be uh looking for that buy like a lot of people um you know one thing I talked to you know as I talked to a lot of high school coaches they're always talking about depth um is definitely a challenge um high school football um all right Scotty another team um that got a win you know like I said everybody uh in week three in the Trinity League got uh a victory so did St. John Bosco again uh defeating Kahuku of Hawaii um Kahuku came out to SoCal but the Braves got him 49 to 13 it was 35 to 6 at halftime and um Braves added uh two more touchdowns in the third quarter um before a uh scoreless fourth quarter for both teams and uh Koa had a really good game at quarterback um definitely his best uh game of the season uh throwing for 355 yards and five touchdowns um in this explosive win uh leading the way for the receiver was uh with DJ Tubbs 12 catches 136 yards and uh uh two touchdowns um and uh yeah the Braves get to uh three and one speaking of outmatch foes they got one coming up uh this week uh going against another Hawaii team we'll be talking about in St.
SPEAKER_01Louis uh later in the show but for all intents purposes was this was uh Bosco's last real uh significant non-league game um they get the Braves get the three and one what do you have on this one Scotty yeah for the first time this season Bosco looked like the Bosco offense we all know uh yeah it was by far Koa's best game he spread the ball around uh Kakua Muala you know tubbs and Joshua Lard you know and all three combined for 22 receptions for 330 and all five TDs you know hubbs tubbs you know 12 receptions and two TDs that was a career high for him um you know the Braves wasted no time they scored on its second play from scrimmage it was a 40 yard slant to Joshua Lard you know made it seven zip you know and then Koa found you know Kakua for another 17 yarder and they were up 14-0 real quick um then Bosco's next drive you know they go on a 95 yard drive and they kept it on a Malik Allen five yard rushing TD and put them up 20 21 six and then you know Kahuku had no answer for the Braves passing game. And you know Koa found Kuka again for a 15 yarder to make it 28 six and then Asa Wileyava capped the scoring for the first half on a 65 scoop and score fumble return and that made it 35 six and and then they Braves continue to keep their foot on the gas Koa added two more TDs 39 and 38 yard at a tubs to make it that 4913 in that third quarter and then that pretty much capped all the scoring you know Kahuku did move the ball on Bosco they just didn't do it consistently and they had two costly turnovers but uh they did and they did get a kickoff return for a score and then Kahuku's starting running back had 123 yards um rushing. So uh we've seen the Bosco defense you know like give up more yards than I think that it has you know but it's still talented you know um but that's just something we've seen. And I think Kahuku is more concerned with stopping the run seeing as Allen's been the workhorse and the most productive um for these past weeks but you can't forget about that passing game and you know Bosco opened it up and I think that's what's important that we see during these preseason games is to get better, find some new kids, you know, you know figure out where you need to work on you know what's working what's not working we'll see if this trend stays with Bosco you know because I think what we saw here was what everyone you know expected. And it's interesting because you know Koa got you know like I said got back on track but you know after three games Koa was 45 48% yard you know throwing the ball and he had three picks. So you know he so we'll see if if if this game jump starts him you know going forward.
SPEAKER_02So yeah I mean I think this was very well timed because of what's going to be happening you know the matchup this week against St. Louis is is not looking good. So this was a super huge performance for Koa and the passing game. Wouldn't you say Scotty they really needed to get this one against you know the best opponent left uh on their schedule um as far as their non-league schedule yeah exactly because you know like I I had no idea St. Louis was going to be as down as as you know as they are so and we'll get we'll get to more and you know and give you the details surrounding that one all right Sky uh let's move on to uh Orange Lutheran like I said they've won three straight um after their season opening loss to central uh Miami so Lancers defeat Sarah 35 nothing um and there was a lot of impressive stuff here by uh by Orange Lutheran starting with the passing um attack both Reagan Toki and uh Ezra Brown um lit it up with uh extreme accuracy they both combined uh for to pass uh 20 of 28 for 244 yards and a touchdown so um and they both had pretty much uh similar lines uh tokey the senior 11 of uh 16 for 104 and uh Brown was nine of 12 for 140 and equally impressive uh on the ground game was sophomore running back Ryan Christensen 12 carries for 107 yards and a touchdown and that's uh significant because the area is almost averaging nine yards a carry but that was also his first 100 yard uh game of his uh young career um chris Flores was the top target uh with six catches for 100 yards um as the uh the offense rolled and uh defensively um Chauncey Washington uh junior uh a junior cornerback had a team high um seven um tackles one guy that uh got on my radar I don't know if you know much about him um Antonio Caseon sophomore uh Scotty had six tackles um don't I don't know much about him as a sophomore um lineman but um but yeah that was basically uh you know this game I think it was 21-0 at halftime and uh they got it out to uh 35 nothing uh after three quarters so again good uh performance by Orange Lutheran as they worked toward a huge game this week against Sierra Canyon. What did you have on this one Scotty?
SPEAKER_01I mean you pretty much you know that's what I had you know like going into this one you know they they they actually slow rode Sarah to that 35 um zero win you know putting up 420 yards of total offense and you know you know with that performance by Togie and Ezra Brown um you know and not to be outdone you know the defense posted the shutout you know they held Sarah to under 50 yards rushing they they contained bean AJ Bean to I think 58 yards um and in an under 100 yards passing so Sarah was never never a threat you know they had their freshman QB he looked timid at times but he made some timely throws but it just wasn't consistent to be a factor with the score at 21 zip you know midway through that third I think that's when Olu put the game out of reach when when Ezra Brown you know flushed out of the pocket rolled to his right with pursuing defenders he threw a nice ball on the run to Flores who goes up and makes the catch with the DB draped arm you know there was a penalty on it for a 37 yard reception to the 10 yard line but on that play Flores came up gimpy and limped off the field and he never returned and then the two plays later Christensen punched it in to make a 28 zip on the Olu's next series of you know on second down Brown hits Raiden Velasquez for a 34 yard TD down the seam makes it 35 zip with five minutes left. Eventually they got it to the fourth quarter running clock um and then also more concerning with with it with the injuries uh is the status of center Troy Oliva he went down in the second quarter and didn't return and that made Jonah Tabra has moved from center to to the uh guard with freshman Bryson Lewis who's been their sixth man you know coming in to go to guard so depth is a huge issue for Ordloo they kill they can ill afford to lose another lineman um because with Sierra Canyon and Trinity League play that awaits that's going to be really tough because we know how how those trenches are and then you know as we as we talked about earlier I said you know at one time that you know this schedule was the toughest um and you know that's changed and as you alluded to Basha who started um 15th is now one and two and took that 40 to seven loss to Pinnacle Arizona and it's the same pinnacle who beat Orange County's the Edison Chargers 32 28 in week zero um so you know basha and and basha looked you know I checked a lot this game because I couldn't believe what I saw so I took a look at this basha was lost they had mistakes they had turnovers they had two block punts and I thought well maybe their key guys aren't playing they had all their big time you know uh college commits so I have no idea what's going on over there but they are nowhere near the team they were last year and you know and I think that's you know that's this that's just a big hit on on um you know their schedule and then you looked at Cathedral Catholic they're one and two they lost 42 to 13 to Chandler Arizona who almost and couldn't beaten Basha that week one um so you know we'll see you know what's going to give this week you know I think it's gonna give us a gauge where Olu really is um more so than we than we than before because um you know those those wins because they played tight games with with everybody except for you know like I said this this past game so you know we'll have to wait and see yeah well good insight on uh those uh you know Basha and Cathedral as well uh like we were talking about earlier one score that does hold up and it it easily could have been an Orange Lutheran win uh you know against um central um but last week uh central lost to Buford who's undefeated and super highly ranked um but central lost to them 18 to seven buford is three and oh um high school football america Scotty I'm sure you saw it I mean they have Buford ranked number two in the nation uh uh behind um St.
SPEAKER_02Thomas Aquinas uh is the high school football america's number one and uh Santa Margarita is number three and so that one does work uh I think that Central game which I think Orange Lutheran you know Central miraculously pulled that off with that wild quarterback scamper for a touchdown with like about 14 seconds left and he was on the sidelines and it was a third down and long and he was like a 30 yard run and they they they Orange Lutheran could have been 4-0 going into this week is what I'm saying.
SPEAKER_01And it yeah and they could be but the you know it's more than just the the records I think it's the play on the you know the play on the field because like Cathedral Catholic is not strong you know and then they played with they played with Olu and they're not they're not a strong team. Basha has not shown that they played with Olu. The only one is Miami Central and that was the very first game of the season so a lot of that kind of has changed. Yeah they could have won but that game was still close you know so you know and I know Beauford is good but that's why I'm saying the Sierra Canyon game is going to be the litmus test. I think that's the one that's going to give us a if is is is Olu a pretender or a contender. Pretender or contender.
SPEAKER_02So I agree. All right Sky let's go on to Survite um got they even their record uh at two and two and defeated uh St. Paul the swordsman 69 to 14 um servite started fast they were up 56 to 7 at halftime speaking of quarterbacks that really maybe had their best game of the season um you could probably put uh Geno Wang in that uh category um I believe he was like 10 of uh 13 um passing um 113 yards three touchdowns and then the ground attack Scotty um I'm sure you saw the numbers the Friars rushed for almost 300 yards on only 23 carries um that's an average of almost well over twel 12 and a half yards um and the friars rushed for six touchdowns um as a team and Jordan Wells the junior just remains on fire six carries he got to 105 yards three touchdowns and just like that um you know that's where you get all that offensive uh production and uh you know for the the the proud friar uh fans the you know this is a long-standing rivalry with St. Paul um it's one of the the the strongest rivalries for servite uh is St. Paul uh dates back you know into the 60s and 70s uh starting out and uh the all-time series now the friars go ahead 19 uh wins 18 losses and one tie so um this was a big one for um you know those those uh old time survite fans that continue to follow their alma mater uh and know the history and um know the rivalries they'll they'll know that they're pretty happy that uh survite got this convincing win got to two and two like you said scotty they have a bye this week um they're the only team on the Trinity having a bye this is a good way to go into the bye uh what did you have on this game yeah as I said it last week this was a pad the stats game and they sure did that with the 69 points and nine touchdowns I think wells increased his touchdown totals his yards per carry and being the OC's leading rusher with his 105 yards 17.6 per carry in the three TDs and then he added to his his six TD runs of more than 45 yards or more in this one and it wasn't just Wells.
SPEAKER_01I mean it was so bad that the backups Colvin and Acosta scored on three of their four carries totaling 122 yards scoring on runs of 28 30 and 62 yards so I mean we knew St. Paul was going to be more matched you know I can't believe that St. Paul looks like they do they look like a youth football team um they look like they should be playing Bolsa Grande and Anaheim um and I know we've seen the yes that's how yes that they are very small um yeah it's it's it's it's kind of you know it's sad you know because I know we've seen past and we talked about this past rivalry games being canceled because of dramatic talent disparity drop offs and you could put this one on that same list. So I know you guys have talked about like the Bell the Fountain Valley and Edison don't play anymore because I because the the talent has been those games have been blowouts the last what I don't know four or five years so they they took you know the coach didn't want to do it anymore so they took it off the schedule. I know you talked about CDM and Newport that started sliding and I think Newport you know played pretty good last week um but uh you know I I just you know I think that's another one that's you know gonna have to go by the wayside um because they keep playing these these games that are just uh you know just absurd that shouldn't even yeah you know you get these lopsided scores so you know I'm I'm shocking that St. Paul scored 14 points even on the backups so but you know Survite's gonna be on the bye this week so you know they're gonna take on two and two Damien next week and I think Damien's playing a three and one Salesian team. So and Damien's also down from what they usually are so um you know we'll just again we'll just I think survite will you know you know take care of the business you know and then um head into you know that first week of league.
SPEAKER_02So yeah you know you mentioned about St. Paul I mean they also you know they opened their season they played Bishop amont they lost 55 nothing and uh then they played Mission Viejo and lost 77 to 12 and uh they did beat Whittier 28 nothing and then they they got uh they got crushed by uh survite so this is you know the friars were doing what uh bishop amont and mission viejo did to the swordsman so um in that way um the the comparative we'll see what happens with the rivalry I know uh the old time survive uh fans will like it but who knows where uh where it goes um all right scotty one more game to talk about and this was a a bit of a surprising one to me um I didn't expect it to be this lopsided but you know talking about lopsided scores Jay Sarah opened the week it was a Thursday game at home they were coming off their big win against Kareem Lutheran and they won 63 nothing over Oak Hills which was coming off an upset win um against Rancho Cucamonga but 63 nothing 49 nothing at halftime Scotty um there's a bunch of numbers to th uh to throw out um and this one you know 384 yards of offense for Jay Serra um guys uh some familiar names that we've been talking about have did well um will frederickson running the ball only uh five carries he got out to 88 yards and a touchdown he had a 68 yard run hayes uh uh claw tier uh two carries for 53 yards and one touchdown he had a 50 yard run um he was and hayes was also seven for nine for 178 yards and uh four touchdowns um had a 51 yard uh connection with uh Luca de Leon um Clark Coakley caught a touchdown Sam Frederson caught two Dylan Ashberry caught one but you know the number that I looked about uh right away Scotty besides the score um I looked to see how many penalties did Jay Sarah have because they were heavily penalized I think they had 18 penalties against Kreen Lutheran uh they only had four penalties this week or this past week four for 40 um so that was a striking improvement uh for coach Hardy Nickerson's team um you know uh Oak Hills is a uh primarily a rushing team they did run for 250 uh yards but again um Jay Sarah kept him out of the uh the end zone um but what did you have on this game uh Scotty you know I wasn't surprised at the big win but surprised at how big and with ease that they did it.
SPEAKER_01You know it was done with more precision execution from its offense and they capitalized on three first half turnovers you know and you know the offense jumped on Oaks Hill from the get-go with with runs uh from Bedford Frederickson and a textbook scoring drive to open the game you know and they capitalized on a blown coverage wide open Sam Frederickson for that 24-yard TD um who from Hayes Clowder who actually was making his believe it or not it was his first start of the game for some reason you know they had he's been doing playing more but um Hildenbergen had been starting you know all the all these games but after you know that Jay Serra turned the next three turnovers into scores you know there was a Dylan Brown pick that led to the 51 yard TD to Luca de Leon and then Jay Sarah get this with score on three consecutive plays starting with that 68 yarder from Ben Frederson to make it 210. Then the first play of the next series Clautier takes the read option 50 yards for the score 28 zero the next J Sara possession Clautiera hits Sam Fredericson for a 26 yard then follow that up with a Braylon Spencer pick off of old Oakshill's you know quarterback in the flat and it takes it for a 50 yard return next play Clautier hits Sam Frederickson for another 35 yard TD 42 zero just like that. So three offensive TDs just like that and um you know with 35 seconds in the half Mohabella picks off the ball at the two yard line and returns it 98 yards for a score so it's 49 nothing right at you know with I think like 22 seconds at the half and second half Jay Sarah played a mix of subs and starters until the fourth quarter when they cleared the bench um but yeah Oaks Hill was a bit overmatched. I mean Oaks could not throw the ball when they did they couldn't hold on to the ball They were one of ten in the first half with three interceptions, four for the game. Jay Sarah had five sacks, three by God's choice, who played his best game of his career. I think all of his sacks were of the like violent nature. They were impactful. I think that shows you his burst, how fast he can get off the ball. And if he can channel that consistently, watch out because you know, like we had said all year long, he's he's raw and he's only you know he's new to football. Um, but you look at him and he he looks like an NFL, you know, college type guy already. But like if he can you know channel that you know look out because yeah, he he he looked pretty good as far as like you know impactful tackles. So um, you know, and you can see James Serra improve from week one of the season um with offensive, you know, the efficiency and the execution, you know, how they're you know how they're they're they're you know running it. Now, I will say this, I know you know we have to wait and see if you know, like with the strong defense, you know, we I thought we would get that from from Kareem Lutheran with their you know with their speed and their college you know bound guys that that you know but you know we never saw that. So we'll have to wait and see when it comes to Trinity League that you know if they if they can maintain that execution. But right now it looks like they're hitting um the cylinders uh with with their offense.
SPEAKER_02Yeah, that's good insight, Scotty, by you about the improvement um that they have shown throughout the year. I would agree. You know, speaking of uh resumes that kind of maybe taking the dip, but I mean that was a huge win for Jay Sarah against Crean Lutheran. They won uh 37-29, they won by eight, but Karean Lutheran lost again last week. Um yeah, I think they were at home against Oak Ridge of El Dorado, and they lost 28 uh 21.
SPEAKER_01Yeah, that was that was surprising. I I I didn't see anything. I was kind of doing score, you know, watching for like you know, the the big teams that we like to follow, and I didn't catch that one until like you know late Saturday. Um and and I had you know, I still I think I still need to go back and look at it more on that one, but uh but that one did kind of like catch, you know, you know, and I I did see that's the uh like I think a stat sheet on it, and and I think Jones, again, he played solid, but he didn't wow. You know, he's been like he's been like in the 240 to 270 range passing, but he's been stuck now. He hasn't been able to like blow it open like he did last year. So that's just that's just you know, and just interesting that that he hasn't been able to blow, you know, like carry his team, I guess you could say. So I guess you're just saying we were just everybody was just expecting more.
SPEAKER_02So yeah, I think the the injury to Ty Johnson's been huge at wide receiver form. Um and they're they're they uh they had that was our first full game without him against uh Jay Sarah. So uh two weeks without him has been huge. Um that was his his favorite receiver, but um, all right, Scotty. So that's a 6-0 week for the Trinity League um and sets us up this week. Uh everybody's playing this week, and there's some huge games. Everyone's playing except Survite. Survite's on the bye. So we got five uh games to talk to about Scotty, and I want to start with um, you know, and I think four of these five are gigantic. Um I'll throw out the one I think that's probably the the least um you know enticing um is Bosco going on uh going to Hawaii to take on um St. Louis, which is 0-4. Uh they are coming off of like a 52 to nothing loss to Sierra Canyon, and they've been shut out in their last three games. Um, I don't think the Sierra Canyon game it got ended early um because it I think an injury. Um and St. Louis has only scored 12 points um overall for the season, and they have three straight shutout losses. So this one is not looking great for this is gonna be a very lopsided game for Bosco.
SPEAKER_01Yeah, you know, like I said, they're you know, everybody who follows the high school scene, I think it's shocking to see that they're usually one of the top programs in Hawaii that they're winless, you know. And then early tonight it's reported that they fired their head coach.
SPEAKER_02Oh wow, I didn't know that.
SPEAKER_01So yeah, so I it was right. Yeah, it was right before we went up, it was right before we went on. Um I I saw it on there so that they let him they let them go. Um and it was interesting because I also had seen a quote from him that they were thinking about canceling one of their games last week because of injuries. They've been decimated with injuries um playing this physically demanding schedule um because they played Melani, IMG, and Sierra Canyon, and that's where they've they've lost by a combined 135 to zip. You know, and and so I think the injury, like you said, yeah, the game was called because like the QB um took a helmet to helmet hit, and I guess they had to take him to the hospital. I guess it was a brutal hit, and then they just decide to call the game. So um, you know, so you're probably expecting another lopsided loss. You know, I guess he's a nice Hawaiian trek, you know, for Bosco, but yeah, with you know, with the coach being, you know, let go tonight, and you know, uh after seeing that that that uh that quote earlier in the week, you know, um that they that he was thinking of like canceling one of their games, and so I'm thinking could they have can't could they cancel the Bosco game? I don't know. You know, that's just that's gonna be interesting because uh they're reeling right now. So yeah.
SPEAKER_02Well it's interesting, you know, thinking about the Braves, um, it's that's why that their performance was important um to play well um this past week against Kahuku. They really needed uh that work and to get uh get their uh passing attack um firing a little bit more on all cylinders because you know Scotty, they're not you know, who knows what kind of look they're gonna get this week against St. Louis and Um You know the Braves open the Trinity um after they'll they'll take their bye and they open it against uh Jay Sarah, which could be coming into the uh Bosco winners of four straight, and like you said, improving and really starting to peak. And that game is gonna be starting to look pretty, I think, pretty darn interesting on how Jay Sarah uh matches up, uh perhaps with you know um with the momentum because let's talk about that game this week, Scotty. Um on Friday, September 18th, um Jay Sarah is taking on Bishop Amont. The uh Bishop Amont's gonna be the home team. They're 4-0, they're from the Mission League, and um this is a huge game. Um, you gotta have Coach Hardy Nickerson in his first year facing off against uh Corey Minor, um uh alma mater um alumnus of Bishop uh Amott, of course. And but um Bishop Amott hasn't played you know the schedule uh that um you know Jay Sarah's played, and and they have um a common opponent in uh you know Oaks Hill. That game uh Bishop Amott beat Oaks Hill, uh Oak Hills 22-3. And we just talked about uh Jay Sarah wonning 63-0 against uh Oak Hills. Um what do you think about this game, Scotty?
SPEAKER_01Yeah, it's a pay on paper matchup that looks good, you know. Amott 4-0, you know, back to prominence, you know, they're 13 in California, but when you break it down, it could be more like another Korean Lutheran game. You know, I don't think Amott has doesn't have the big name college commits or the household names, um kind of a scrappy bunch um up and coming, despite their 4-0 record, their combined opponents um are 5-10, with 2-2, like you said, Oak Hills is being their toughest win. So, and you know, when we saw what Oaks Hill uh got taken to the woodshed. So uh, you know, I'm not sure if they're gonna be able to match up physically. Um, you know, they might you know sustain. I do know, you know, uh does have some athletes, um, so we'll have to see if they if they can get that going. Um, but I think you know, without a doubt, I don't, you know, Jay Sarah's gonna win this one. So yes.
SPEAKER_02All right, Scotty. Um, I agree. I think Santa Margarita uh I think Jay Sarah will win this game, and they're gonna have a lot of momentum for Bosco. And I'm very intrigued to see um the where the Lions are trending right now. They're exciting team. All right, Scotty. So Santa Margarita back at home playing on Friday at Saddleback College, and they have a 4-0 team uh they're facing in the Norco Cougars um that come in. Um Norco's doing some pretty good things, uh, Scotty. Um, you know, offensively, you'll probably talk a little bit about their senior quarterback, uh Julian uh Medina. You know, he's got 15 uh touchdowns, only one interception, and um he's thrown for almost 1,300 yards, and he's completed a very high percentage. Um he's off to a great start. And with all that passing, you know, they have a very good uh senior receiver, uh Blake Wong, um, but he's only played in like two games. Um so they get uh a lot of other productions for some other guys, which is um a good sign. So I think for for Santa Margarita, you know, I think this is another um, this is a better, much better opponent than Iderkum, better than Highland. Um maybe close to Jones, but they're gonna um I don't know. I don't think uh Norco has the size of the lineman that Jones of Florida had, but I think Norco's got some um some passing. Um interesting enough, uh Scotty, Norco is from the same league as um Centennial Corona. They're from this this big West uh league in the in the northern um northern division. Um they've they've been pretty um successful against most of the teams that they play, but they haven't played anybody near the level of Santa Margarita where you know um the best team they beat is um Edawanda. That was uh last week. Um they beat uh Edawanda 56-26. That was the best. Everybody else was kind of blowouts um and with lose losing record type teams. So what do you think of this game, Scotty?
SPEAKER_01Yeah, it's another on-paper matchup that looks intriguing. You know, you just mentioned it, you know, Norco's opponents, you know, they are also a combined 5-10. Um, you know, they you know, Julie Medina, you know, and Blake Wong have been uh, you know, spectacular for Norco, but you know, does Wong play in this one? Is he gonna be healthy enough? Um, you know, are they gonna be able to withstand and give him time to throw? That's the difference, you know, having to withstand that Santa Margarita uh uh pass rush. So again, I don't think this one's gonna be close. I still think, you know, I still believe that Santa Margarita can add another shutout or keep him under 14 points.
SPEAKER_02So okay. Gotcha.
SPEAKER_01Do you know much about what's going on with Wong? I do not. Okay. Um I I I just you know, I just know that that when he is when he is in there, he he is a game changer like you know, him and Hayden Coo, you know, Tustin, they're almost like carbon copies, you know, and everybody you know, you know, have has has kind of like who's better, you know. You know, they're both very similar, you know. And um, you know, Julian Medina is kind of like, you know, he's not a big guy either, you know. Um, but he just you know he fires the rock, he's you know, he's got a quick release, and um but but again, you know, you know, the teams that they have played, it's you know not daunting, so you know it's gonna get you know it's it's it's it's hard to like really put that put it up when you you know um when you match up against a uh you know a top ten opponent like Chrisan and Margarita.
SPEAKER_02So yes. Alright, Scotty. Um so these last two games of the of uh this week are just awesome games. Um we'll be at both of them, uh got them covered. So on Friday, I'll be going up to check out Orange Lutheran for the first time this season, and the Lancers are taking on an undefeated Sierra Canyon team. Uh Sierra Canyon is the team that beat Orange Lutheran uh to open up the season. You look at the uh the national rankings, Scotty. We talked a little bit about those. Um Sierra Canyon 3-0, they're ranked sixth in the country um by Max Preps. Um, you know, that's uh two spots behind um Santa Margarita, and they're above Bishop Gorman and Bosco. So um Sierra Canyon is a team to really watch in the southern section in Division If they can make a run in the postseason. But this is a pretty good rivalry game. These teams have been playing a lot of each other. Uh, I'm sure you'll talk about a former uh Orange Lutheran standout who's now plays for uh Sierra Canyon. Um but Orange Lutheran's trying to go four-0, Scotty, um, and uh, I mean, win four in a row, I should say, um, after their season opening loss and get a ton of momentum for their opener in the Treaty against Servite. Um what do you got on this one?
SPEAKER_01You know, uh you know, I've seen Sierra Canyon, you know, like you said, you mentioned they've been as high as that seven rank nationally, and I've seen them as low as 17. So it's interesting that throughout the spread of the national polls that they're in that range. But you know, uh it's gonna be nonetheless, it's gonna be challenging, you know, for the Lancers, um, you know, especially going up against that that defense, you know, with that's led by you know Fakatu, you know, who came from Olu. So that's gonna be an yeah, you know, that's gonna be an interesting same with with wrestling wrestler, uh, one of the receivers, landing wrestler. So he's also over there. Um, you know, Sarah Canaan's defense has been pretty impressive. You know, um, you know, it's gonna have to wait and see if can they get enough from Reagan Toki and Ezra Brown who've been efficient, but have yet to really rely on them to lead the way with that big performance. Although Brown did have that 17 of 18 performance, but it still was the defense in that one that led them the way. So, and then Olu with this issues on offensive line, is it gonna catch up to them this week against that stingy front? Um, you know, Sierra Cannon's offense hasn't really lit it up throwing, but rather they've been very effective with their short game and they've been scoring off of it, you know, with Slade and Miles Baker, and then Jackson Stokes, you know, and then they've been playing with really good field position and capitalizing off its defensive turnovers. Um, and they've been getting pretty solid, you know, from the run game with Stokes. So I just think it's gonna be too much Sierra Canyon um and that defensive front that's gonna that's gonna give Olu uh some issues. Um, but I think I have Sierra Canyon winning this one.
SPEAKER_02Okay. Well, I'm interested to see Orange Lutheran. They're starting to make a believer of me. Yeah, I I know there's some maybe some of their schedule isn't looking as impressive as it initially did, but I don't know. Something about Orange Lutheran, I feel like um they're they're just I feel like they're flying under the radar a little bit. Um, you were talking about the rankings. Uh I think they're 26th in the nation right now by max preps, but they're 38th by high school football America, um, up from about 63. So they're up several spots in high school football America. Um yeah, Sierra Canyon. Uh I believe they let's see, in high school football America has them 19. They're not as nearly as high. That's not as nearly as high as Max Prep. So I don't know. I I something's going on with Orange Lutheran. I think a lot of it is some of their coaching, they've the cohesion with the offense. Um, I'm interested to see them play, see what their pace is like, um, see how their how their defense is. So I'm I'm excited for that one. And um let me see a different team in the Trinity League. Because after this one, I will have seen Orange Lutheran in person, I would have seen Jay Sarah, Modern Day, and uh Santa Margarita. So I would have seen four. Uh the only team I haven't teams I haven't seen in person is Bosco and Servite. Um all right, Scotty. So the game of the week, speaking of national rankings, rivalries, how about uh how about uh Bishop Gorman of Nevada, Las Vegas, Nevada coming in to take on Modern Day on Friday. This game's gonna be at Santa Ana uh stadium. Um again, um Friday, September 18th. Um the Gales 3-1. Um they we did talk about it a couple weeks ago, right, Scotty, that they lost uh surprising game to uh Columbus of um Miami, uh Florida, but they did bounce back uh to beat Lone uh Lone Peak of Utah 38-14. Interesting enough about Bishop Gorman, uh they are coming off their bye because that game against Lone Peak was on September 4th. So they got the bye coming into their rivalry game against modern day. Um, you know, a lot of people like to talk about Gorman being that, you know, um de facto member of the Trinity League or future member of the Trinity League. Um, we got some uh viewers into the Trinity League uh listeners from the Trinity League football podcast from Las Vegas. Thank you guys for the support. I know you'll probably touch on some injury uh issues that maybe Gorman has. We know we talked about how modern days defense is uh on fire right now. They got some quarterback issues that are trying to figure out. Um it's a work in progress. If you you you talk to Coach Laura, that's how he describes the quarterback situation. Um, could it be another low-scoring game? Uh, there's gonna be a lot of drama uh this one whenever uh the teams hook up. Uh Modern Day did hand the uh Bishop Gorman its only loss last season, Scotty. That game was in Las Vegas. Um, what do you have on this one?
SPEAKER_01So yeah, we saw Gorman beat Bosco, then they go down in an upset over Columbus the following week, you know. But since then, Gorman went on to beat, you mentioned Lone Peak, and then they had the buy. So again, this is going to be the Max Pepsi game of the week. It makes for a big matchup, um, you know, on paper because of the Modern Day has been staying among the unbeatons. But I think what's more interesting is that Modern Day's unbeaten Mark versus Gorman. 5-0, and it's out-of-state unbeaten record of 27-0. So I think that's gonna be an interesting network. And there have been times where where that record was challenged, you know, and the monarchs came away with victories where they weren't favored, you know, and I think you know, a lot of people again are gonna say Modern Day's probably not favored in this one. So, you know, we'll wait and see. You know, what Gorman team is gonna show up? The one versus Bosco or the one versus Columbus? Because, you know, at a glance, you know, that Gorman's defense is solid, but their offense hasn't been able to be like really consistent dominant machine. You know, they have three great running backs that they use very well. Um, they got that big offensive line, and the QB's kind of been up and down, and the receiving core has been banged up. So in last week's win, freshman Brody Amina started for his brother Ace Amina, and he you know threw one touchdown, and Gorman got three rushing TDs from their running backs. And that's interesting because you know, Bosco's been nursing the injuries, as we have mentioned. Zyron Minor, it's top receiver. He's been out of the lineup since Bosco, and it hasn't had its four full core receiver since that Bosco game. And Amina is 70%. He has thrown nine touchdowns and three picks, and those stats look great, but you know, that wasn't enough in the Columbus game. You know, you know, he was running for his life, they couldn't get anything going. Um, you know, so I think this is a much needed buy, you know, even though they got the win the week before, but you know, they got to regroup. You know, they've getting the rest for the guys that who've been out. You know, we're gonna have to see at game time, you know, who's out, who's out there, who's not. You know, you know, I don't know. I this I think I can't see Modern Day mooning another game as it did last week. You know, I don't though anything is possible because we've seen some crazy stuff this season, you know, play winning defense, you know, that will always keep you in the ballgame, and Modern Day has shown that. Um, you know, but you know, I'm probably leaning Gorman based off the fact that Modern Day's offense is a mess, you know, and Gorman's physical nature and speed on defense, it's probably gonna be too much for them to overcome on that end. You know, and then you know, I think they're gonna have to, you know, the defense get some help and some scoring from the defense too. You know, are they gonna get you know, is Gorman are they gonna force you know turnovers? We'll see. But wow.
SPEAKER_02So all those stats that you had on Modern Day's record against um you know out of state of foes and and their their mastery against Gorman, you think those are going down, huh?
SPEAKER_01Yeah, I I I mean I'm leaning that way. I mean, I I was that way, you know, I was surprised, you know, we had look at last week, you know, I I had Centennial. I said there's no way in modern in modern day found a way to win. It they could do the same thing this week. They could probably do, you know, play an ugly game and win in it, you know, defense, and it could be the same exact thing and and pull a win off. You know, great, but it it's very difficult that you know to win. You know, it catches up with you at some time, and you know, I you know, I'm just uh you know, it's just a lot to to overcome, but anything is possible.
SPEAKER_02So you know, I I there's a lot of uh I'd say modern day may a little bit more of a believer of me. Um when I see what their defense can do, um their special teams, um, their kicking game, there's a lot of things that can really help out that um defense, that that offense. I do think that the modern day defense, they're also, I think they recognize the struggles uh that their offense is having, and um I think that kind of inspires them to play a little bit better. And they know they they know they need to step up. Um, and I think they happily take that role. Um so I think that I think the modern day defense uh definitely legit um fast, you know, and that helps their special teams and the short fields. I think as much as the quarterback is definitely an issue, I think they also modern day also has to work on uh establishing that uh ground attack. And I would agree, you know, trying to diversify some things um and get the ball uh into some playmakers' hands. Um, I don't know if they start to try to pull um another playmaker or two from defense a little bit more um uh to put at right wide, you know, to help them a little bit more at wide receiver or um try to evolve their um a few new wrinkles to the offensive game, but um I think that Centennial game will certainly help them um make some corrections. And um, I think I'll I'll pick Modern Day, but I think it'll be a great game. So um, and that's gonna be it, believe it or not, Scotty. Um for the five those five teams, the non-league season will be over. They'll be on their bye, and then next week, Scotty, we'll probably be doing mid uh mid-season awards, I think.
SPEAKER_01Or mid-season watch list, yes.
SPEAKER_02Yeah, the watch list, excuse me. Yeah, the watch list. Thank you for correcting me. Um yeah, we'll be doing our watch list for our awards. Um, that's always a fun show as we hit the bye, believe it or not, already.
SPEAKER_01Yeah, crazy, but we always say it every year it goes by fast, but enjoy every minute of it. Yep.
SPEAKER_02So a lot to uh look forward to. Hope everybody enjoys these games. This is a very big week. Um, last week a non league season for most teams. Uh going toward the uh our mid season watch list, and then those big games coming up on Friday, October 2nd. So, for Scott Barajas, I'm Dan Albano, and thanks for joining us on the Trinity League Football Podcast.
