What happens when we try to follow Jesus without staying connected to Him? In John 15:1-17, Jesus describes Himself as the true vine and His followers as the branches. Cole Ellerbrock explains that lasting spiritual growth does not come from simply trying harder or managing our behavior. It comes from abiding in Jesus, allowing Him to shape our hearts and produce fruit through us.
• Jesus is our source of spiritual life, and apart from Him we cannot produce the kind of lasting fruit He desires.
• Abiding is more than checking off spiritual habits. It means making our home in Christ’s love and continually orienting our hearts and lives toward Him.
• As we surrender to Jesus and remain connected to Him, He produces fruit in us that brings glory to God and blesses the people around us.
