day."},{"startTime":397.262,"endTime":400.502,"body":"And in Canada, some of our provinces take"},{"startTime":397.262,"endTime":400.502,"body":"the whole day off to remember the Afghanistan."},{"startTime":407.222,"endTime":411.862,"body":"But regardless, the goal was to elicit a"},{"startTime":407.222,"endTime":411.862,"body":"response to support the military."},{"startTime":412.142,"endTime":416.622,"body":"So the goal was to stand shoulder to"},{"startTime":412.142,"endTime":416.622,"body":"shoulder with them and to get them to be"},{"startTime":416.622,"endTime":418.882,"body":"grateful for all that the vets had done."},{"startTime":418.882,"endTime":421.022,"body":"So I didn't know how to do that."},{"startTime":421.022,"endTime":424.672,"body":"And then I had a childhood memory that"},{"startTime":421.022,"endTime":424.672,"body":"happened to me when I was a teenager."},{"startTime":424.672,"endTime":426.802,"body":"Now at this point, I was in my 40s."},{"startTime":426.862,"endTime":430.722,"body":"There was a family friend, he was in his"},{"startTime":426.862,"endTime":430.722,"body":"70s when I was in my teens."},{"startTime":430.722,"endTime":434.922,"body":"He was an old -timer who would always go"},{"startTime":430.722,"endTime":434.922,"body":"to those Senate Taft Remembrance Day"},{"startTime":434.922,"endTime":438.602,"body":"services, and he'd quote a psalm about God"},{"startTime":434.922,"endTime":438.602,"body":"being a rock of defense."},{"startTime":438.602,"endTime":442.682,"body":"Now, my little 16 -year -old brain could"},{"startTime":438.602,"endTime":442.682,"body":"not relate to that."},{"startTime":442.682,"endTime":447.042,"body":"And I said to him one day, why are you"},{"startTime":442.682,"endTime":447.042,"body":"always talking about God like a rock of"},{"startTime":447.042,"endTime":447.332,"body":"defense?"},{"startTime":447.332,"endTime":448.442,"body":"What's that about?"},{"startTime":448.442,"endTime":449.612,"body":"And the man stopped."},{"startTime":449.612,"endTime":451.742,"body":"Remember, he's 70, I'm 16."},{"startTime":451.802,"endTime":454.782,"body":"He'd been a colonel in World War II."},{"startTime":455.022,"endTime":460.182,"body":"He had a large contingent of soldiers to"},{"startTime":455.022,"endTime":460.182,"body":"capture a hill from Nazi -occupied"},{"startTime":460.182,"endTime":461.302,"body":"territory."},{"startTime":461.522,"endTime":466.142,"body":"Many of his men had been lost in the"},{"startTime":461.522,"endTime":466.142,"body":"battles leading up to the moment, and he's"},{"startTime":466.142,"endTime":469.262,"body":"telling me this story as I'm a tender lad"},{"startTime":466.142,"endTime":469.262,"body":"of sixteen."},{"startTime":469.442,"endTime":474.942,"body":"Suddenly, there was a barrage of gunfire,"},{"startTime":469.442,"endTime":474.942,"body":"and he and two other men took shelter"},{"startTime":474.942,"endTime":477.922,"body":"behind a large boulder that was taller"},{"startTime":474.942,"endTime":477.922,"body":"than he was."},{"startTime":477.922,"endTime":482.478,"body":"They thought they were safe behind the"},{"startTime":477.922,"endTime":482.478,"body":"large boulder, when abruptly,"},{"startTime":482.478,"endTime":487.778,"body":"A live grenade landed right at the feet"},{"startTime":482.478,"endTime":487.778,"body":"and it landed between the two feet of that"},{"startTime":487.778,"endTime":489.138,"body":"Colonel
