This poem was written while under the tight grip of grief.
It is important we grieve the things that actually matter. To allow ourselves to weep deeply. To allow ourselves to sob & feel the pain, the sadness, helplessness, anger, the loss, the guilt, the disbelief, the fear, the experiences we didn’t get, or the things that got in life, but didn’t deserve. To go through the non linear stages of grief. Then to get back up and let that empower us. Successful grieving leads to personal growth & wisdom. Those who avoid grieving subconsciously create defenses against the pain of loss by walling off parts of themselves. When we are able to deal with losses directly, we can remain open to life as it is, and, thus, can see things more clearly. If we don’t work through it, if we stay on the surface of our grief, then we will continue to choke on our suffering- we will live in a state of avoidance, anger, sadness, fear, anxiety, numbness, depression- that can result in self-destructive behaviors. To work through it means to make sense of what we went through over time. This poem narrates an experience right after a loss, how I worked through it, and the insights of my higher self that came through. If you are grieving right now, hold on, hold on, dear one. I love you- Colleen
