SPEAKER_03

Hello, dear listeners, and welcome back to the affiliate marketing podcast. I'm your host, Leanne Johnston, the founder of Affiverse and your guide to affiliate marketing and affiliate program management. Today we're taking a little detour from our regular programming session to bring you some exciting news. I wanted to tell you all about AM Leaders and give you a behind-the-scenes tour of what you can expect at this inaugural event. Now, this event is brought to you in partnership with Afaburse and our friends over at Hello Partner, founded by Matthew Wood. We wanted to give you a deeper insight as to what this event is all about and why, if you're an affiliate program manager or aspiring to become one, you won't want to miss this event. We'll start off by sharing why we've come together to host the AM Leaders event, taking place in London on the 23rd of October, which is the day before PI Live Europe kicks off.

SPEAKER_06

I think our companies both have the same vision, right? We want to bring people together, we want to connect people, and we want to aid learning and retain talent within the space. That's one of the most important things. We have a uh an army of hungry kind of account managers and people at the beginning of their career, but equally we have uh a good policy of people nearing the end of their career, hopefully, but that have been in the industry quite some time, and we want to share that knowledge and uh and experience and hopefully keep that talent within the industry.

SPEAKER_03

You see, the affiliate marketing industry is evolving at warp speed, and affiliate managers need to stay ahead of their game. That's where AM Leaders is going to help to facilitate continued skills development for account managers that are entering this industry. AM Leaders is all about in-person workshops, training for affiliate program managers who are working at agencies, networks, and of course in-house on the advertiser or operator side. Now I'm going to take you a little bit behind the scenes today to delve deeper into why this event is a must-attend and what you'll be getting out of it if you do. But before we get into the nitty-gritty details, let's address the industry elephant in the room. Why should affiliate managers invest in ongoing training? Why should companies invest in their team development, especially when they're already working in the role? Well, the data speaks for itself. The affiliate marketing industry is growing at a rapid pace, with an estimated $19 billion being managed inside the sector by 2025. So you can bet yourself that it's changing faster than you can say click-through rate. And with new technologies, platforms, regulations, consumer behaviors, and growth of the partnership economy to contend with, staying ahead of the curve is no longer a simple process. It's now become a necessity. According to a recent survey that I read, more than 75% of affiliate managers surveyed believe that staying up to date with industry's trends is essential to their continued success. What this means is you'll need to keep investing in your own personal development by learning from those that have gone before you, keeping up to date with new trends, and learning new tactics and frameworks that can help you grow your affiliate programs. And that's why we've got industry veterans like Wade Tonkin, the director of affiliate marketing at Fanatics Inc., coming along to share his insights at this event.

SPEAKER_00

One of the things I'm excited about is sharing on the kind of affiliate partner mix that I look to have in my programs. I feel like a lot of programs are a little too heavy on the corporate affiliates. I'm big into content affiliates, and so uh hopefully we'll be able to take a look at some people's programs, uh, look and see what kind of mix they have, and hopefully get them on a healthier path.

SPEAKER_03

Now, affiliate marketing is like a moving target. To hit that bullseye, you've got to keep honing your skills. And AM Leaders is the perfect place to do just that. Now, let's talk a little bit about the star-studded lineup of speakers and why we've assembled these people together in this inaugural in-person training event. Matt shares some of his ideas and some of his thoughts about why this event is a must-attend.

SPEAKER_06

We did some research and we we kind of saw that there was demand for face-to-face uh activity. I mean, online courses are brilliant, but especially in our industry, learning from peers is just as equally as important as learning from the experts and having people in that room in that workshop style where you can deep dive into a topic. I mean, at PR Live, we can cover it in half an hour, but getting the option over five hours to kind of really go into uh the meat of the subject matter and not only learn from the teacher on the day, but the others that are facing the similar challenges that you have. That's that's the value, I think.

SPEAKER_03

Now we've brought together some pretty big hitters to share real life strategies and help you triage your affiliate programs in a live workshop setting. This means there's no fluff. You're going to get access to real-life veterans who are laying bare their knowledge and expertise for you to come and learn from. You can expect insights, strategies, and a touch of humor from some of these luminaries. We've got Ian Sims, the founder of Rightlander, who will be on hand to talk through how to work with affiliates compliantly and discussing frameworks for managing blind affiliate networks to avoid fraudulent sales. Kevin Edwards, who's got more than 20 years of experience in the affiliate industry and has worked for Europe's largest network, A-Win, and is now founding Affiliate and Partner Marketing Association, a new initiative that will represent the UK affiliate channel. Kevin's got over 16 years of experience managing strategy, product marketing, and content teams. And he's going to be sharing lots of insights about what the future of affiliate marketing holds. Myself and Liana Klein, who head up Affiverse Agency, between us, we've got more than 30 years of experience running affiliate programs from startup to multi-million dollar worldwide across multiple verticals. And there's plenty that you're going to be learning from in the workshops that we cover. We've also invited along Sanjay Sareen, who helps creators and advertisers bring inspiring influencer marketing partnerships to life. With nearly a decade in SaaS and digital marketing, San has established himself as the EMEA specialist for all things related to influencer focused technology and the partnership economy marketing. Vice President of the UK and client development, Dan Staples, who's joining us from CJ.com, will be discussing the future trends that he can see from being responsible for managing a team of marketing experts that are really responsible for the growth of some of the world's largest affiliate programs. So there's going to be plenty to learn from there. And of course, there's Dean Sedden, a virtual maverick on social media and social selling, who's going to be sharing his best tactics to help affiliate program managers become brand ambassadors for their program and to learn the power of leveraging social media channels to find and recruit new partners into their programs successfully. Plus, there's still more to come. You can check out the speakers and contributors of this event on our event page as we continue to update the agenda and workshops for this event. I think it's safe to say though that we've packed a lot into this first event to make it as impactful as possible for those of you who are going to be attending. Now let's talk a little bit more about the workshops, what you can expect and why this event is so different. These hands-on interactive sessions are where the real magic is going to happen. From optimizing affiliate relationships to crafting compelling affiliate content, our workshops are designed to give you the practical skills that you can implement right away. And for those of you wondering what on earth is a triage session, well, think of them as a quick focus session where you can get personalized advice from industry experts. It's kind of like a mini ER for your affiliate program. Picture this you're in a room with like-minded professionals sharing ideas and solving problems together. Now that's the power of networking at in-person events. And that's what AM Leaders is going to bring you.

SPEAKER_06

It's smaller, right? You can ask questions that you might feel nervous about asking to a big audience of 500 people on the stage. You know, there are challenges that brands have, whether it's kind of the transparency around subnetworks, for example, or fraud within the industry, or programs. And where are you getting this traffic from? And how do you understand how much value it's giving to your brand? And I think you can you can talk about that in a smaller group a lot more comfortably than out in the bigger picture. It's not Chatham House rules this kind of session, but it is a kind of like close-knit community where you can kind of fit leave the sessions with uh a lot more comfort than I think that you uh arrived with.

SPEAKER_03

And speaking of in-person events, let's not forget the venue. We've chosen a stunning location that will not only inspire your creativity, but will also offer you a chance to unwind and recharge with an opportunity to network together and share what you've learned from your experience after the event, too. For those of you wondering when this extravaganza will take place, mark your calendars for the 23rd of October. If you've already bought your ticket to PI Live, you'll get a 50-pound discount on your purchase for your AM Leaders ticket too. If you've not yet purchased your AM Leaders ticket, you can go and do that right now by heading on over to www.performancen. This training event promises to be a game changer for your affiliate program management career. But don't just take my word for it. Listen to what some of our AM leaders workshop hosts have got to say.

SPEAKER_02

I feel there's a lot of events that happen that sort of think about thought leadership, deliver thought leadership. Um, but it's that interactive piece within education that I feel sort of takes it to that next level, which is something that I'm quite excited about.

SPEAKER_01

I think the thing that appeals to me about AM leaders this time round is that it's unusual to have an event where you get the decision makers at the top understanding what exactly the roles and responsibilities, and more importantly, where the accountability lies for marketing. So more often than not, we're talking to the people at the coalface doing the work, but they're not necessarily the right people to make the decisions as to what is correct. And sometimes, of course, there's also a conflict of interest in terms of marketing and compliance. So some people at the top need to actually have an understanding of what those conflicts are and what the best practices for that the business that they're running is.

SPEAKER_04

When you go to most training events, it's stats, facts, and figures. But it doesn't really, you don't leave going, I've got something I can do, I've got something I can work with. You come away most of the time with stats and go, oh, that helps me somehow. AM Leaders is practical, tactical, packed with frameworks, and it's going to equip any program manager to absolutely nail it.
