Episode 8 - our guest this week is Howard Middleton, gluten free baking guru and former The Great British Bake Off Season 4 contestant! Howard chose to bake a gluten free cake during week 1 of Bake Off, which delighted the judges and smashed their preconceptions of gluten free baking. He now teaches gluten free baking masterclasses and is author of cookbook Delicious Gluten Free Baking. We chatted to Howard about: life in the Bake Off tent and behind the scenes, challenging yourself and getting creative with gluten free baking, drawing inspiration from other countries’ cuisines, choosing to bake “free to” rather than “free from”, whether Paul is really as mean as he seems, how Howard applied for the show - a new year’s resolution gone very right, the competitive process of getting on the show, cutting the end of his thumb off and having to go to A&E in week 1, his new Bake Off commentary podcast, Sue accidentally squashing his muffins and the infamous 'custardgate'.
Before the interview, Laura and Sarah talk about the challenges of going gluten free and some top tips and advice on how to stay positive. As well as the importance of asking for help when you need it. Oh and our adventures in Somerset and Devon this week!
