Welcome to Elmhurst CRCs, daily dose of the word of God. It's Monday, July 11, and Sunday's coming. This is Kara Hackert and today I'll be reading from Matthew 6, verses 25 through 30.

Kara Hackert:  0:20

Therefore I tell you, do not worry about your life, what you will eat or drink; or about your body, what you will wear. Is not life more than food, and the body more than clothes? Look at the birds of the air; they do not sow or reap or store away in barns, and yet your heavenly Father feeds them. Are you not much more valuable than they? Can any one of you by worrying add a single hour to your life[a]?  "And why do you worry about clothes? See how the flowers of the field grow. They do not labor or spin. Yet I tell you that not even Solomon in all his splendor was dressed like one of these. If that is how God clothes the grass of the field, which is here today and tomorrow is thrown into the fire, will he not much more clothe you—you of little faith?

Kara Hackert:  1:14

I will admit this is very hard for me. I am a worrier from a long line of  worriers. If I had to guess I would think that many of you who struggle with the same trouble. Every year we ask our fifth graders about verses that are meaningful to them. And over the last couple of years, this verse has appeared more and more. Do not worry. I understand this Lord, but it's so hard for me. So I look at this passage. And it reminds me of how much my heavenly father cares for me. When the worry creeps in, I focus on that. I say thank you to him for all the many ways he's cared for me. I read my Bible or listen to my Bible app. And I try to mentally give my worry to him. I picture him taking it from me. He's a good good Father who loves us, who provides for us and who does not want us to be weighed down with worry. We are his children and he cares for us. Let's set our focus on that.

Kara Hackert:  2:19

Please pray with me. Dear loving Father, thank you for providing for us. Help us to trust in you and focus on your care. We know that we are precious in your sight. We are valuable to you. And you have not left us alone. Thank you, dear Lord for your faithfulness. Amen.
