Welcome to Elmhurst CRC's daily dose of the word of God. It's Monday, July 25, and Sunday's comin'. This is Kara Hackert and today, I'll be reading from Genesis 1, verses 26 through 31.

Then God said, “Let us make mankind in our image, in our likeness, so that they may rule over the fish in the sea and the birds in the sky, over the livestock and all the wild animals,[a] and over all the creatures that move along the ground.”  So God created mankind in his own image, in the image of God, he created them; male and female, he created them. God blessed them and said to them, “Be fruitful and increase in number; fill the earth and subdue it. Rule over the fish in the sea and the birds in the sky and over every living creature that moves on the ground.” Then God said, “I give you every seed-bearing plant on the face of the whole earth and every tree that has fruit with seed in it. They will be yours for food. And to all the beasts of the earth and all the birds in the sky and all the creatures that move along the ground—everything that has the breath of life in it—I give every green plant for food.” And it was so. God saw all that he had made, and it was very good. And there was evening, and there was morning—the sixth day.

God made us in His own image. He made you in his own image. You are not like any other creature that God has made, ever. You are his child. His very special, one-of-a-kind creation. No two of us are the same. Stop for a minute, and think about how amazing that is. It's so easy to take for granted how unique and extraordinary each creature that he creates is. We can go about our day and not give his creation much thought - but let's notice it today. As you look out your window, pay attention to the birds that fly by. The different sizes, colors, and songs that they sing. Take a walk around the block and note the squirrels, rabbits, and dogs that you see. These living creatures move on the ground as our passage says and they all move on the ground in different ways. Perhaps even take a moment to sit in the middle of your yard or a park. What plants are covering the ground or soaring into the sky? Look at all that amazing color. What an awesome God we serve. What he has made is very good. You are very good. He created you dear child of God. You are his masterpiece created in his image. You are part of his plan. You are his.

Please pray with me. Dear amazing Father, thank you for making us all special and unique. Thank you for making us yours. Help us to take care of this beautiful world that you have made. Each precious person and creature. Amen.
