Welcome to Elmhurst CRC's daily dose of the Word of God. It's Tuesday, April 23, it's the season of Easter and we're walking the Emmaus road with Jesus. I'm Billy Heschl reading for Rachel Klooster. Today's reading is going to be Luke 24: 30 through 32.

Rachel Klooster  0:27

As they sat down to eat, he took the bread and blessed it. Then he broke it and gave it to them. Suddenly their eyes were opened and they recognized him. And at that moment, he disappeared. They said to each other, "Didn't our hearts burn within us, as he talked with us on the road and explained the Scriptures to us?"

How amazing to suddenly see Jesus in a way you didn't expect. And yet, they had an inkling something was different when they were talking with him - their hearts burned within. What did they mean by that? Excitement, eagerness, a feeling of something was different about this person and the things he was saying to them (and probably the way he was saying it as well). What a wow moment. I also love that it describes the moment as, "suddenly." It wasn't a slow recognition, rather it was all of a sudden they realized who this person was that made their hearts burn. I challenge us all today to find some of those moments suddenly (or not) we realize it is Jesus working in and around us.

Rachel Klooster  1:33

Let's pray. Dear Lord Jesus, thank you for making yourself known to us. We ask you to open our eyes to see where and when you are working. Amen.
