Welcome to Elmhurst CRC's Daily Dose of the Word of God. It's Wednesday, October 15 and today's reading is from 1 Samuel 16, verses 8 through 13 (New International Version). "Wait...not The Voice translation?! Kyle, you always read from that!" There's too many voices - I can't do all the voices.

Then Jesse called Abinadab and had him pass in front of Samuel. But Samuel said, “The Lord has not chosen this one either.” Jesse then had Shammah pass by, but Samuel said, “Nor has the Lord chosen this one.” Jesse had seven of his sons pass before Samuel, but Samuel said to him, “The Lord has not chosen these.” So he asked Jesse, “Are these all the sons you have?” “There is still the youngest,” Jesse answered. “He is tending the sheep.” Samuel said, “Send for him; we will not sit down until he arrives.” So he sent for him and had him brought in. He was glowing with health and had a fine appearance and handsome features. Then the Lord said, “Rise and anoint him; this is the one.” So Samuel took the horn of oil and anointed him in the presence of his brothers, and from that day on the Spirit of the Lord came powerfully upon David. Samuel then went to Ramah.

Let's pray. Thank you for your word, thank you for your voice and how it called to Samuel and created a prophet out of him. Lord, like Samuel, help us to trust in your voice - not only to hear it but to understand and trust it. And Lord, like David, we may feel like we are the most unlikely person to be chosen by you. To be used by you and to be sent by you to bring about the kingdom, but yet you still speak to all of us. If we will listen, you whisper, you show us things. You guide us through Your Holy Spirit and as sons and daughters of you, we are all chosen to carry your word and your spirit forward in the things that we do every day. May we feel your anointing and your presence in our lives. In your name, amen,.
