Kelly Day 0:06
Welcome to Elmhurst CRC's Daily Dose of the Word of God. It's December 16, and today's reading is from John 1, 1 through 5 as we journey through the Bible this year with the spotlight and Jesus and John is our guide.
Kelly Day 0:21
In the beginning was the Word, and the Word was with God, and the Word was God. He was with God in the beginning. Through him all things were made; without him nothing was made that has been made. In him was life, and that life was the light of all mankind. The light shines in the darkness, and the darkness has not overcome it.

Most of my life, I pictured Jesus as starting his Bible debut as a baby in a manger - but John starts off his gospel with a very different storyline. Jesus (the Word) was here from the beginning. Through Jesus, all things were made. It makes me picture him a bit differently, a bit more all-knowing, all- powerful and a bit more God. Jesus was always a part of the story. Actually, the whole Bible points to him and his life, death and resurrection. The Word became flesh when he was born to Mary, but that was not his beginning in his death, and his death was not his ending - Jesus is alive and well today. I love that John consistently refers to Jesus as a light - and not just a light in a room full of lights - but as one that shines in the darkness. Will you let him shine in your darkness and lead the way?
Kelly Day 2:02
Let's pray. Dear Lord Our Savior, you are the beginning and the end. You know the whole story, what's been written and what is yet to come. I pray that you would forgive us for foraging our own way through this dark world and not following you. I thank you for your gift of light that shows up in the Bible, through prayer, through people and places that we don't expect. Lord, please help us to look for you each day and I pray that we'd see your goodness and celebrate you well this Christmas season, Amen.
