Beyond Mom

A veil has been lifted that has covered our reality and now we can’t look away. Thousands have walked the streets protesting racist systems and demanding equality and justice for black people. Non-black people are finally studying, verbalizing, and connecting the dots of their own privilege to the systemic nature of racism in our country. So many are finally feeling the heartbreak. And somehow in the midst  of the pain and fear is possibility.

In this episode Randi sits down with author, workplace peace advocate, speaker and inspiration enthusiast, Rahkal Shelton. She is passionate about serving, inspiring, and helping individuals find harmony and strategy to thrive in and out of the workplace. Her latest book Woosah: A Survival Guide for Women of Color Working in Corporate has been featured on WGN, the Huffington Post and Forbes. Rahkal brings all of her experience both professionally and personally to this honest and necessary exploration.

In this conversation Randi & Rahkal dive into:

-Why supporting women of color in the workspace is Rahkal’s passion and commitment.

-Institutional racism. Rahkal dives into the micro-agressions, stereotypes and stigmas women of color face in the work space and the frustration in navigating that socially.

-Education and personal work to combat white privilege: Why it is critical for white people to educate themselves and step outside themselves to really connect with these issues. Rahkal highly recommends a PBS documentary called “The African Americans: Many Rivers to Cross"

-The path to healing. How do we heal? How do we give voice to this? The power of creating a safe space to dialogue while taking the politics out of if it.

-Randi shares her own story about encountering micro-agression racism while applying to new schools for her kids.

-Mindfulness and how that helps us stay the course.

-How can companies can create safer spaces for people of color in the workspace.
