The Change Management Institute

In this episode, Naomi chats to ACM Master Bernie Thorpe about people and culture.  Over 20 years ago, Bernie started a company called Shape Consulting. He was part of a significant merger of seven electricity organisations which came into one to create Ergon Energy. He went on to embed system changes, process changes and org redesigns, amongst other activities, for Ergon which were about efficiency and effectiveness. Since then, he has worked in change with every company in Queensland with over 1000 employees.

Naomi says: “Culture, Bernie says, is what drives what organisations choose to focus on.  He says, from experience, that efficiency and effectiveness must go hand in hand with “healthy”. Bernie’s advice is to understand the cultural impact of the tools you are choosing for change. Our conversation ranged from systems thinking to the Human Synergistics tools to designing things so that they are human centric. Change managers, if your organisations are simply nodding their heads and then not doing anything, you need to listen to this podcast.”
