Hi there. This is Harry, and welcome to my podcast. Why? I tried to help you to understand English and a better way that you can communicate as the way you would like to both in your personal private life and also in your business life. So we look at grammar, Fraser, verbs, expressions and other aspects of English to help you to improve that. Okay, So what have I got for you in this particular podcast? Well, as always, hopefully you'll find it enjoyable. What? We're going to look at our words that will help us when we're talking about places and particularly when we want to describe places, homes, apartments, whatever it might be so vocabulary for describing places. Okay, so I'll give you each of the the words that I have, and then I give you a brief little example. Okay. Number one located in this apartment is located in a suburb off Paris, which is very swell. Sought after by buyers. Okay, So located in where is the apartment? Where is the house? Where is it? Situated located in two vast VSD vast. The property is located in a suburb surrounded by vast fields off open ground or vast areas ofthe forest land vast, meaning huge, wide, big now vast oceans. So vast is a good word for describing something very, very spacious s o the vast fields off forest surrounding this particular property vast. And be careful with the pronunciation of last. Okay, three in the heart ofthe this apartment is situated in the heart of London, close to all immunities on DH, where you young people wish to be. So in the heart of London means in the centre, whether the beating heart of the city close to all immunities, which could be anything from access to the the underground, access to rail and trained bosses, whatever it might be close to parks, shopping, all of those amenities that people living in a city centre needs. So in the heart ofthe so right in the middle, in the heart off. In the heart of that, you can have anything that's in the heart of in the heart of the countryside. In the heart of the city, though, is thriving, beating like a heart. But, um but, um, but, um, in the thriving city, okay, and the next word actually is thriving. So something that is thriving is something that is very lively, very active, on very well situated. This apartment or house is in a thriving suburban area off a main city, thriving because there's lots of businesses there. There are a lot of people there with their own businesses or people who have moved there from other cities, because there's a lot of employment, lots of opportunities schools, hospitals, all the infrastructure that you would possibly need. So a thriving city centre, no vacant shop units, a thriving city where the unemployment is very low, thriving city where there's lots of restaurants, bars, theatres, whatever might be available. Presuming there's no lock down, of course, are thriving. We often use thriving to describe how someone's businesses going. A thriving business, a business that has continued to grow and continuing to be profitable. Okay, and number five it is accessible, so accessible means easy to get to. So if you're hunting for an apartment or a house, you want accessibility to the motorway. To get two airports, you want accessibility to the main feed into the city centre, whether that's by bus, by rail or by road accessible you wanted accessible for schools, hospitals all the services, but the same time you wanted in some way quiet and peaceful. So something that is described as accessible means easy to get to. Yeah, easy to find, easy to get to on very well located well established When something is well established, it usually means that it's a little bit older on DH. It is probably more mature area that was built 2030 years ago. The people have matured. Perhaps families have grown up. Kids have moved out, so it's a little bit more mature than other areas so well established. A well established part of the city. Or, if you're applying for a job, you can say a well established company that you would like to work for well established, meaning something settled, something that people know about and something that is respect. But in terms of a place well established, something located mature and you won't find other big apartment blocks or the big factories or shopping centres being built around you because it's well established, its mature, and there's as much development as can possibly happened there. Okay, next on the outskirts ofthe the outskirts are usually those air outlined areas on the in the regions of cities so it could be a suburb. It could be a district. It could be a region, but it's not bang in the city centre. It's on the outskirts, where you may have to travel by train or metro underground orb us to get there, but it's probably close to countryside. Immunities close to park lands So something situated on the outskirts of the city. Eight. Stunning, a stunning view. Something absolutely beautiful. Stunning is a synonym for beautiful, gorgeous, air stunning dress. But in terms of a place, a stunning place means very attractive. Beautiful park lands, well groomed gardens. Ah, well, aye, Captain Decorated homes. So very, very stunning on DH. Stylish, stunning. Next, a bustling, bustling means really active. A bustling neighbourhood where there's full of maybe street markets or high street, with lots of shops and bars and lots of nightlife activity and lots of cafes during the open for the weekends when people can go and relax on the time off. So a really bustling centre small micro economy, which is based around their good standard of living that people can enjoy the bustling activity s O a little bit of noise, but sometimes that's good, but the right sort of NYSE of people talking and chatting and Children playing and the activities you'd like to hear in your neighbourhood next, which is number 10 on my list renowned for this area, is renowned for its hospitality. It's renowned for its architecture meanings. It's well known for. To be renowned for something means to be well known force of your seeking a house or an apartment in an area renowned for easy access or renowned for the quality of the building or renowned for the quietness of the neighbourhood. So something that is well known or understood to provide good service is renowned for 1100 list Charming, while charming means really interesting, very quaint, quite beautiful, probably peaceful, really well decorated and maintained homes, pretty gardens. So a charming place to live, something that just picture postcard type of charming place to live, full of charm, full of beauty. Number 12 surrounded by. While when we buy something, we'd like to feel that it is surrounded by woodland surrounded by Parkland surrounded by the other apartments and homes occupied by young people surrounded by all the amenities that you would like to have in that particular district. So surrounded means all around you, every in every direction. You know, shopping centres, access to motorway cafes, bars, Parkland, schools, Whatever it might be surrounded by number 13 on the list is cosmopolitan, while cosmopolitan can mean lots of things to different people. But cosmopolitan means a good mix. Good social mix, a good international mix of people, a cosmopolitan city like London and so full of people from all nationalities, which in itself attracts nice and interesting places to eat. Not just the old pub style or cafe style bar and restaurant, but something with a Greek atmosphere, eh? Perhaps West Indian or African culture, whatever it might be that this brings that Cosmopolitan feels something in truly international. A good mix number 14 within easy reach off. While it's always important when you're looking out for a home that you're looking for something in easy reach off your office and easy reach off the motorway in easy reach of the mainline station or the underground or metro, something that you can get too easily, so in easy reach of mean something in walking distance, short drive cycle, whatever it might be, but you can get there quite easily. A number 15 vibrant. So a vibrant location means something that is boozing. Bu zed, zed I n. G. Full of life, vibrant the vibrance of life. You can feel it. You can hear it. The weekends. You got lots of activities. You've got markets, but when it needs to be quiet, it is quiet. But during the week, it's full of that activity of vibrant place to live. A good mix off people young, old, middle age. So you've got young people coming through, keeping the school's busy with Children on DH, then other people at other stages ofthe there lives a really vibrant location and then, finally, something that has a worldwide reputation. Well, this is usually talking about Big City. So Paris, London, wherever it might be having worldwide reputation as a cool place to live a worldwide reputation as the in place to be cool. Sorry, a worldwide reputation as a cool, vibrant, interesting on DH, exciting place to live. So reputation is something that people want, something that will hold its value that will increase in value, which, of course, is the ultimate. When you're trying to buy an apartment or house that you'll get some long term growth in value. Okay, so they're different words to describe places that may run through them again. For you, there are 16 location, located in vast in the heart, off thriving. It is accessible, well established on the outskirts ofthe stunning, bustling, renowned for charming, it is surrounded by Cosmopolitan, is within easy reach off, vibrant and finally has a worldwide reputation as okay, So that's the podcast for this out of this podcast.
