Description: Peter begins the body of his letter by pointing these chosen strangers to the living hope they have in this world, on their way to the salvation that is to come. The ideas of present hope and coming salvation are paralleled by the resurrection and return of Christ.

Main Idea: Our hope and salvation as chosen strangers is set on the resurrection and return of Jesus Christ.

I. Our hope: the mercy and might of God through the resurrection of Jesus Christ. (1:3-5)
a. Rest in his mercy in giving us new life and living hope.
b. Rest in his might in keeping our inheritance and guarding our hope.
II. Our salvation: the outcome of suffering and faith at the return of Jesus Christ. (1:6-12)
a. Rejoice in the glorious result of our suffering.
b. Rejoice in the certain future of our faith.
c. Rejoice in the testimony of the saints and angels concerning the glory to come.
