00:00:07.300 --> 00:00:09.200

Welcome to the Me, Myself, and You podcast.

00:00:09.200 --> 00:00:12.900

My name is Sara and I'm your host and I'm so glad that you are here with me today.

00:00:13.000 --> 00:00:17.700

I wanted to talk a little bit about mental health during quarantine.

00:00:17.800 --> 00:00:20.800

It has been almost six months now of quarantine.

00:00:20.800 --> 00:00:25.300

I guess it's probably about six months when you're actually hearing this episode, which is crazy.

00:00:25.400 --> 00:00:32.000

I literally haven't been to my office for my full-time job since early March, I guess.

00:00:32.000 --> 00:00:34.000

I just wanted to kind of address.

00:00:34.300 --> 00:00:39.000

How I try to improve my mental health during quarantine and let's be honest.

00:00:39.000 --> 00:00:40.200

I am not perfect at it.

00:00:40.200 --> 00:00:46.771

And in fact lately, I've been completely sucking at it, which I'll address in probably the next episode you hear it's

00:00:46.826 --> 00:00:47.100

hard.

00:00:47.100 --> 00:00:52.000

It's the isolation that comes with quarantine is incredibly difficult.

00:00:52.000 --> 00:00:58.989

I definitely sympathize with a lot of my co-workers and friends that live alone instead of with family or husband or

00:00:59.050 --> 00:01:01.400

significant other whatever it might be.

00:01:01.500 --> 00:01:03.900

I mean, I can't even imagine being completely.

00:01:04.099 --> 00:01:11.180

Lee alone that just experience of isolation is got to be really strange and for me there's definitely the aspect of

00:01:11.242 --> 00:01:18.693

isolation but there's also the aspect of being stuck in the house all day with just my husband and son and dog but having

00:01:18.755 --> 00:01:25.652

only your spouse to talk to don't get me wrong I do get to interact with my co-workers on Zoom calls, but that's

00:01:25.714 --> 00:01:27.500

definitely a different thing.

00:01:27.500 --> 00:01:34.100

So I just kind of wanted to run through a few ideas for what can help what has helped me in the past.

00:01:34.000 --> 00:01:38.700

Asked what I need to work on doing but I know does help when I do it.

00:01:38.900 --> 00:01:40.200

So let's jump into that.

00:01:40.200 --> 00:01:43.600

So first get outside get fresh air.

00:01:43.600 --> 00:01:45.000

I know here in Texas.

00:01:45.000 --> 00:01:46.400

It really sucks right now.

00:01:46.400 --> 00:01:50.200

Like I don't want to be outside at all because it's so miserably hot.

00:01:50.200 --> 00:01:52.000

It's over a hundred most days.

00:01:52.000 --> 00:01:54.100

I feel like which is not enjoyable.

00:01:54.100 --> 00:01:59.500

Like you really do have to be up really early to be able to go outside and it be somewhat tolerable.

00:01:59.500 --> 00:02:03.100

I'm waiting for it to cool down, but do try to get outside and get some fresh air.

00:02:03.100 --> 00:02:09.300

Even if it's just for for a few minutes if it's boiling hot where you are like it is for me find a routine.

00:02:09.300 --> 00:02:15.900

This has been one of the hardest things for me to pick back up since I gave birth to my son.

00:02:16.000 --> 00:02:24.489

We were quarantined for the last three three and a half months of my pregnancy and I definitely found a routine in that

00:02:24.560 --> 00:02:27.200

there was a lot of walking every day.

00:02:27.300 --> 00:02:34.800

We found a flow that worked really well and we haven't fallen quite into the same routine now, He's here.

00:02:34.900 --> 00:02:38.700

He's two months old as of August 23rd.

00:02:38.700 --> 00:02:45.815

So that's a guest been a little more difficult for me personally, but finding some semblance of a routine can definitely

00:02:45.874 --> 00:02:52.989

help you feel a little more sane in this quarantine because if you're just kind of not following that structure that you

00:02:53.049 --> 00:03:00.283

would normally have if you were going into the office day-to-day if you were furloughed maybe you've been laid off finding

00:03:00.342 --> 00:03:03.900

some structure I think can definitely help with your sanity.

00:03:04.000 --> 00:03:11.670

Tea and maybe that's as simple as getting up at the same time and going for a walk or maybe you have a full-on morning

00:03:11.735 --> 00:03:13.100

routine kudos to you.

00:03:13.900 --> 00:03:21.800

So there's that next make time to engage with people during quarantine and safe ways to me.

00:03:21.800 --> 00:03:27.400

This is something along the lines of phone calls texting regularly Zoom calls.

00:03:27.500 --> 00:03:30.300

I have found that can be helpful.

00:03:30.400 --> 00:03:33.900

I feel like my experience is definitely a little bit different.

00:03:34.100 --> 00:03:39.700

Because I have a newborn that definitely is a good way to engage with people safely.

00:03:39.800 --> 00:03:46.400

I have not been great about setting these times to go engage with people via Zoom or via phone call.

00:03:46.400 --> 00:03:52.966

I've been doing okay with texting some of my close friends and that definitely helps to talk to somebody else and then

00:03:53.022 --> 00:03:59.200

because I am working full-time having the opportunity to have zoom meetings with my team has been really great.

00:03:59.200 --> 00:04:06.200

That being said, I have an amazing work team that it's very much a group of friends and And not just co-workers.

00:04:06.200 --> 00:04:13.896

I don't know if that makes sense, but it's a very close-knit group and that really helps give me some social engagement

00:04:13.961 --> 00:04:20.300

and not just be totally isolated during the work week lastly use this time to focus on your goals.

00:04:20.300 --> 00:04:22.200

Just do something productive.

00:04:22.200 --> 00:04:24.700

This is definitely something I've struggled with a little bit.

00:04:24.700 --> 00:04:28.900

I haven't had the motivation but there's a lot of other stuff that plays into that.

00:04:28.900 --> 00:04:33.900

I think Beyond just being in quarantine as we've been in this longer and longer.

00:04:34.200 --> 00:04:38.400

I think this can be a really good time to focus on your goals.

00:04:38.400 --> 00:04:42.400

I know at the beginning there was kind of a lot of back and forth with this where some people were like.

00:04:42.400 --> 00:04:42.700

Oh, yeah.

00:04:42.700 --> 00:04:45.600

I'm going to use this to reach my goals and other people were like, it's okay.

00:04:45.600 --> 00:04:47.600

If you're not feeling up to doing that.

00:04:47.700 --> 00:04:54.035

I feel like absolutely it's definitely a struggle mental health wise during this time, but I think as we've been in this

00:04:54.087 --> 00:04:58.100

longer as you've been able to process kind of what's happening in the world.

00:04:58.100 --> 00:05:03.700

I think it is feasible and healthy to work towards some of your goals to maintain your mental.

00:05:04.000 --> 00:05:05.700

A thin to feel better overall.

00:05:05.700 --> 00:05:11.734

I hope that makes sense and I want to be clear that that doesn't mean that it's not okay to have tough periods of time

00:05:11.785 --> 00:05:17.819

where you're not that's absolutely okay and normal do what you can I just think that taking some time to focus on your

00:05:17.870 --> 00:05:19.200

goals can be very helpful.

00:05:19.300 --> 00:05:20.400

I think that's about it.

00:05:20.500 --> 00:05:26.500

Just ideas to try to help maintain your mental health and overall sanity during quarantine.

00:05:26.500 --> 00:05:28.600

I hope you found some of this helpful.

00:05:28.600 --> 00:05:32.700

I hope you enjoyed if you like my podcast definitely share it with a friend.
