Welcome back to squelch voted the most average Hearthstone podcast by its cohost. I'm Daniel, I'm enthrallment and I'm a Gooch and we're here to remind everyone that Hartson is a game and games are supposed to be fun. It's time for tea with Findlay. This is the part of the show where we talk about what we did this weekend. Hearthstone, Hey yo, let's meet for tea after the match. So this week I'm going to start because I never get a start. So um, thank you. So I played by free arena run and boy I really hate the arena. It's not like the limited format that I hate specifically, but the fact that it's like solely limited. Like I don't like being able to like build an actual deck and I only, I kind of just like that I have 30 decisions to make in 10 or 15 of them are made in a vacuum and I have no idea what kind of Beck I'm making until I'm like 12 cards or 13 cards in. And if I'm offered no good one drops and I'm kind of like, okay, it's not fixed, it's bad. One drops. And like I understand that like arena players get really good at the arena and I under I much prefer constructed over like limited, but I don't like the arena. So I played my free arena, Ryan and I went one and three and I got kind of mad at the game and then I just turned and I stopped playing arena and, and then I wrote my show notes.

1:32
So, um, or gal, I also put a lot of time into this brawl this week, which was like the, like the timed bra. And I got to the headless horseman like four times and died on his stupid head like four times and I'm, I'm kind of embarrassed by it and I never did get my three packs and uh, it was just pure stubbornness really at a certain point. And I know it's a me problem. I think everybody else got their packs but, but I just like it was, it was sad. Um, I think it's funny when we swapped then, cause I did, I was one and done in the brawl because I had to step away. So closing and exiting the client and walking away for 10 minutes and it's still counted all of that time. And I was 45 seconds over giving the thing and I was just like, whatever.
Speaker 2:
2:21
I'm done. Like it's close enough. My first run, like I was like blowing through it and I was like, Oh, this is awesome. I've got this awesome deck of having so much fun. And that was like, alright, I got him down to zero, he's dead. And then he's like, head popped up. I'm like, ah, I wasn't accounting for that. And so now I'm kind of like out of gas. And then I ended up dying and I was like, Oh, I almost had him. And then I got there again and again. I kept on not being able to kill that stupid head and I'm like, Oh, this is really pathetic. You know? It's more pathetic than that is. I did the first boss got one pack and I never did anything. I didn't know. I didn't know you could get three bags, you could get three, you
Speaker 3:
3:00
can get like three packs and something else. Right. Oh. And to go to comments or comment or something, but they're not even good cards. So, Oh, I'm going to reading about that. I did read about, Oh, I should have man and I need dust. Oh, they still do it right? Is it or is it done now a day,
Speaker 4:
3:17
doesn't it? I think it rolls over it, whatever the like seasonal roll over time is. So it's like midnight PST I think. I'm not sure about that, but [inaudible] hours now you call it though.
Speaker 3:
3:28
When you play a bunch of the brawl, can we call that going with Gooch on the brawl? Yes. Yes, sure. Yes. Sure, sure.
Speaker 4:
3:35
Um, I did only do it once, but I, I had an amazing win where I stole the head with Solanis. It killed them. It was wonderful because he goes, and the one paying just went right to the face and it was over. And I was like, that was awesome. But also anticlimactic.
Speaker 3:
3:53
I wish mine was anticlimactic and I got my three packs just saying I only got the one, two. Uh, I also hit rank for, um, playing a whole bunch of different stuff. But got to rank for using Highlander Powell then. And I think Highlander Powell is good. Like it feels like Justin Good surprised by it. But yeah, it was fun. Was it frozen? Who was playing that first? Kind of, who was it? No, John Bray may be like, it's been up. It was a thing even before that they had new before, like the new legendaries come into the meta. So it was a thing. And so then people's added like, you know, secrets and you know, uh, the six, six, blanking on the name. Serious challenger. Mysterious challenger. Thank you. And then, yeah, so it feels like a good deck, surprisingly nice. Um,
Speaker 4:
4:47
I did the quest. Ah, yeah, I know I skipped out on a couple of them, but this one I thought it was really cool. Uh, I had a dumb joke that I made and I was like, no, I'm really going to do that. So I did do it in wild and I'll talk more about it later, but I did it. I was proud of myself. Um, I've played a bunch of death rattle rogue, like I had talked about doing. So I absolutely did that. And while I was bummed to find out that I can't use my golden off, uh, I have golden Todd wacko schemes, so I put 10 golden shots first time I took it out and I only get to play w one of the golden ones afterwards. But it was, it was good. That's some good fun. Uh, I also used up my arena tickets on Asia and, uh, EU barreling my way through zero three runs with absolutely garbage tax.
Speaker 4:
5:36
Like I get what you're talking about. Like it's hard to, building that deck is definitely a skill, but part of it seems to be like what's the best you can do with a bunch of crap cards. So I'm questioning my deck building, but also the overall design. Like my, the thing I love about magic drafts is you end up with 45 cards and you or however many cards you get, then you take out the extras that you don't need and there's no wiggle room in Hearthstone arena. So that's, you know, a different story. But, um, I also wrapped up my regular tombs run this morning and get an absolutely garbage, Goldman pack. That was a little bit of a bummer. Um, I might do the heroics, but uh, it pretty much depends on how much, how hard I want to try and get a Bob deck. Cause that's pretty much the only thing I'm going for anymore. I wasn't super jazzed about the heroic card back. Um, and other than that, it's just a weird selective dive into Hearthstone media this week because of the focus still being rightly on the blitz, Chung and, and everything. Um, but it's gone so far. Both sides too. There's been some really crap takes out there and it's uh, it's fatiguing. Ha ha.
Speaker 5:
6:50
Oh. Oh cause that's it. It's been fatiguing to carry it. The, yeah. Thank you. Yeah, me. Well, I listened to a, um, uh, your guys' short episode on the blitz Shung like commentary and, uh, I agreed with a lot of what you said and, and it, it's been hard to avoid. Like, I know we don't want to talk about it much this week. Um, but I think when something you love is so tied so closely to something like that, it's, it's hard. Uh, it's, it's hard to ignore it. Um, yeah, I think at the end of the day, like really proud of him and doing what he did and, uh, I like to see how much support there has been for him. And really quickly, I think the one piece of negativity that'll add is like seeing that the, the followup like media response from blizzard was on Friday night, like that old kind of incorporate like 5:00 PM. It was really disappointing to see quiet down over the weekend. It was really disappointing to see that and read it. But I don't want to get into why. Okay. Um, I played a lot of rogue, I played a ton of rogue this weekend, so, and this past week and like I grinded my way up to rank three, uh, played my quest deck on ladder and almost drank three a night. I dropped back to rank five.
Speaker 5:
8:19
Zay, it didn't go so well. Uh, and then like later that night, like I played like three or four hours a rogue, I think, maybe three hours and like got up to like kind of rank four with a few stars. And I was like, feeling good. And then the next day I like went to log in and I was like, I'm gonna play some hard stone today. Like for sure it's Saturday. And I was like, you know, I want to climb and I can climb with rogue, but it's gonna it's just going to be a grind, you know, I love playing Sharman. I'll just give the of all show. I'm gonna try. Yeah. Uh, I hit legend that day, so it's fun. It's super busted. And on ladder I played pretty much exclusively against all of his busted. Yeah. Pretty much exclusively against ShawMan and priest. And unfortunately the meta is way less diverse since the new cards have entered.
Speaker 5:
9:11
That's what I noticed. It may just be that first, like, Hey, these are the strong, seem like the strongest deck, so we're playing them all kind of thing. Um, but it was really rare. I didn't see a showman and when I didn't, it was, there's only one of each other class I played in the entire climb other than priest and Charmin. So that was that. Maybe two warriors. Uh, so what I learned though is Ntozake was cool but not very fun. Evolve, evolve is fun but not very cool. And then like Silve without as off or like rag or road cards, those are like seemed just right. Like they kinda like, they fit just in and I love that kind of level. Um, and I'm excited to play different things at legend this month and I still have to get my 30 wins with warrior and more luck.
Speaker 5:
9:55
Um, the solo content packs, I finished the, I only have a few. Uh, I, I got the last wing finally. I can afford it with my goal and I got the last of my packs and the golden packs and I ain't got nothing. I got one. I don't have a good collection. And in all those packs, like whatever, how much gold was it? 2,800 gold. I got one Epic card I can play and nothing else. So, um, that felt pretty bad. Uh, but I wasn't expecting a lot, but that was okay. That's where I kind of ended up with that. But I'm almost done all the heroics. I just have to do three more kind of heroic things and it'll be good and that'll be fun. I like doing the works. I think heroic solo content is best solo content. It's fun.
Speaker 2:
10:42
I started doing the heroic solo content and then I was like, wait, why am I doing this? I stopped. I'm like, the only reason I bought the Cylo content was because I was so excited about like that that like trailer they put out. Right. And like the story of these four like kind of goofs and like that that, that animation about like Findlay, like you know, throwing the fish and I was like, Oh this is going to be so awesome. The story like Sony, I cannot wait to see them expand on it. Yeah, maybe didn't,
Speaker 5:
11:15
maybe the sad thing is in the past, like video games at the end would have the cool video there and now they have the cool video to sell you the game. Maybe that's the sad,
Speaker 2:
11:24
well, whatever it is, I don't think I'm giving them 20 bucks again next time for this. Yeah. Because I, the packs aren't where they worth it. Like, and I don't particularly enjoy the content. Like I'm not a big fan of this solo content. If I'm going to play, I kind of would rather just play on ladder. So I think, you know, what I want was under to expand the story. I went into this two episodes ago though, so I won't go into it again. But yeah, I thought about doing the hurl content and I was just completely uninterested in it. And so I just, I've kind of forgot I even owned it to be honest. I love it. Yeah.
Speaker 4:
11:57
Um, yeah, I love it. It's a nice level of hard but not impossible. I like it. I like having that other aspect where you're looking for a Bob deck or something. So there's you know, different lines but
Speaker 2:
12:10
all right so lets enjoy a tasty Naga sandwich. The Naga sandwich is the compliment sandwich. Avant trace. It is two good ingredients. Sandwiching a not so good ingredient. Thought about it. I was just waiting for that. Oh sorry. One day I'm not going to laugh. You guys are going to be like, Hey, are you still there? All right. All right. So what is our first good ingredient this week? Magoo. [inaudible]
Speaker 4:
12:44
ah, that day, somewhere down the line in the future when divine spirit gets hall of famed, uh, fairly aspirational. I got a good no, it's not really, I didn't get smoked by a wall priest with divine spirit, inner fire combo and it was just gross. But now really, um, it's like we said earlier, it's been a rough time with Hearthstone this week. There's like personal stuff, there's Metta stuff, worldview stuff. So kind of even picking what, what of those things to focus on. And you know, I could have just said like I did the quest today, so I moved that up. But really thinking about it right now. Um, especially with everything that's going on. For me the, the basket right now is the community. And to me that community is, it's you guys, it's us having people listen to the show. That's amazing. It's still mind blowing and uh, as hard as it is to separate the game as an entity from everything else, when you boil it down to the actual game, um, you guys make it a lot cooler for me. So that's my super, super good right now. Yeah. Five times too large. Broke out the little X Ray machine. If anybody out there listening doesn't have like a populated friends list hit us up. We would love to have, have more people and uh, absolutely join the fun. Yeah.
Speaker 2:
14:06
All right. I get the not so good this week. Um, my, the not so good this week is give me a break with evolve. Ever knew that evolve was a good card ever and knew that the bunny rabbits card was waiting for a card, like evolve to be really good. I'm sorry to interrupt your little rant, but that bunny rabbits card as you so flippantly put it is actually called desert here and has a battle cry that reads some in three sweet little bunnies cast evolve to win the game. Shaman was already basically a tier one deck, maybe borderline tier two, because the Metta had kind of really figured it out. But of all the cards you can bring in with these new 23 cards, what, why would you bring evolve? You knew it was going to break the meta. You knew that the deck was just kinda, I mean you get
Speaker 3:
14:52
to make six of those stupid bunnies or however many bunnies you get to make. Like why, why, what the here power. But it's super broken. Say having played it for a few hours the other day, like it's super broken on turn three with the coin. If you get it, like it's just, so going into your opponent's turn four, you've already put a two drop on board and then on turn three you get three four drops and four drops. Uh,
Speaker 5:
15:22
compared to other of all targets. Turns out they're really good stat lines for their costs. So, um, you don't, with much on four drops. It's actually the weird thing that I noticed, uh, playing, um, yeah, you get some free wins for sure.
Speaker 3:
15:38
What's the difference between six and three? Right? Cause it was with the original combo. It was the six, the six drop. Right. Yet sevens. Yeah. So, but coming out a card comic evolving six drops on six, right? With the coin. Yeah. It's so much different than devolving three drops on three with the coin. If you put up a board of Ford drops on turn three give me a rate with that. Well, and that's, that's the thing is it's, um, it's, it's the amount of them as well. It's obviously on curve, but um, yeah. Yeah, I agree. Yep. Alright. Alright. Uh, best good? Yup. That's good. All right, good. Here we go. You guys are gonna think of somebody that feeling in Hearthstone when you do that thing. That's, that's my best guess. So
Speaker 5:
16:27
what does it do? You hit rank 10 did hit rank five? Did you hit legend? 12 arena runs, 10 arena wins, three [inaudible], you know, uh, all let one golden hero portrait all your golden hero portraits, a thousand wins hero Paul portraits. Like did you get all 1000 when here on portraits? If that's the case, that's probably when you notice that you forgot to feed your cat for a month.
Speaker 3:
16:50
But um, like that
Speaker 5:
16:54
thing you were going for when you do it feels so good. So I know this every month, every month I play pretty much I hit legend
Speaker 3:
17:00
and every time I do it I have to screenshot that stupid Amber number and then I have to post it for my friends and everything. They're like way to go, dude. Like every time I do it, I know you guys are like great and awesome, but it feels so good every time. Even though like I don't know if I can lose some friends every single time you do it though, it's like, Oh look what you did. Like I'm very happy for you. It's super awesome. Like it's cool. Like no one's someone that like gets legend every month. I know somebody gets ranked fine every month and then plays really garbage decks and the stage about rank five every month. Yeah. Well thanks.
Speaker 5:
17:43
It's just like when you have that thing that you want to do and then you do it, it just feels so good. So, um, yeah. Yeah. I don't know what mine's going to be for the rest of the month, but I guess it'll be maybe heroic on solo mode. I don't know. But it's always nice to have that thing. So I don't know. What's the most recent thing that you guys did that was like that.
Speaker 2:
18:00
Okay, so I got my 4000th win. That was neat. Yeah. For one thing, I noticed that a lot. Hiro. Oh 4,000 twin on your um, yes, I took a big old fat long break. Right?
Speaker 4:
18:16
So like I just logged in one day. I was like, Oh look, I'm like at 3,996 and I was like, cool. Or I was like actually lesson, it was like 380,800 something like that. So I had like a a hundred something winds to go and I was like, Oh, this is cool. And then like I just kept on playing and I got it and I was like, Hey, cool, look at this. I did this thing and then nothing happened. So I moved on and then now I'm like, I think I'm caught the 5,000 now. Cause I've been playing a lot again. So I'm like, Oh, this isn't that big of a deal. But I mean, I didn't set out to do it. But my most immediate recent thing is probably people like snap conceding when I shuffle 15 copies of this off of my deck.
Speaker 4:
18:48
And then last new favorite thing is making people snap cuts. Oh, it's not new at all. I just haven't had any milestones in awhile. Like I think it was at least three or four seasons ago and I hit legend on, Oh actually, no, it was right when we started the podcast. I is when I hit legend on EU and I've tanked really far since then, but I haven't really been focusing on the grind and having done it twice. Uh, I don't know how people can do it constantly. Um, I know there's a grind and you know, it depends on the time of the month and what's been going on and whatever. But uh, no, definitely props for, for getting there on the regular and, and then representing crazy stuff when you get at, one thing that I appreciate, like when you talk about hitting legend is you're not like, Oh, you know, anyone can do it. Or just like, Hey, you just got to put X number of games in per month. It was kinda like, yeah, you know, I played like three hours this month and then this time and then I, you know, this many hours that time and yeah. Then I was able to get there because I think about like how I, I play
Speaker 2:
19:53
the game, it's a a rare month when I have more than one session where I get like two hours of ladder at a time. Yeah. Like I just, that's not how I play the game. So like I do a lot of like practicing for something I put in probably more time like practicing my decks for my various like league, like series's. Um, the, I do one ladder most months, so I usually just like try to hit rank five real quick so that when I'm playing our quest, I don't have to worry about dropping anything. So I am like, my early goal is to lose my first five right away and then, you know, when a bunch to hit rank five and then I basically just play dumb decks or play with friends. That's really, I don't, I don't put the let time in on ladder to hit legend and it's kind of, I still don't know if I could do it if I wanted to, but um, yeah, so. All right. So we're Justin filthy casuals. Each week we roll a D 20 a to pick a rank between one and 20, and then we talk about the rank at blah, blah, blah, blah, blah. [inaudible]
Speaker 2:
21:01
okay. So this week we rolled a three, which means we're talking about the rank three meadow. That is correct. Right. Three. Metta. So what are we going to talk to them? I'll be a real night. I'm sorry. I was going to like do a separate tank after take after. I like blew that first read, but now I'm not going to one day we'll have a real pod voted then most average Hearthstone podcast by it's Coke. Um, so this week we wrote a three, which means we're talking about the rank three Mehta and to absolutely nobody's surprise, we are going to talk about Shumon. Um, so the HS replay, um, meta tears at rank three. Uh, so tier one is secret Highlander Paladin, then combo priests, then quest [inaudible], then Highlander and then evolve shaman. So like w two of those four are just two sides of the same coin really. And that combo priest right there notice a big difference
Speaker 5:
22:10
different in the mirror, but, but that's about,
Speaker 2:
22:13
yes, for sure. But like when you're playing and like I've played a lot of like death rattle priests for funsies because it's good and like I can kind of wreckable shaman, but quest Shama gives me run for my money and if I win, it's in fatigue. So, um, yeah, cool. But of all ShawMan is easy peasy lemon squeezy cause they're just, we're on a gas that way. The way that the quest Shama doesn't so cool. Um, tier two real quick, we're locked. Shaman I don't believe was actually that good. A Highlander, Hunter, quest Druitt tempo, rogue Highlander warrior, and we're locked. Paddled in secret palled and then resurrect priests. Uh,
Speaker 5:
22:51
just playing the other day, Marillac, showman was not an easy win for quest German. I'm like, I was playing quest evolve and uh, I would see Marillac shotgun and I was scared that was not a fun match up. So, um, the evolve ShawMan felt like a pretty decent situation. But I think Marillac, Shaun counters, combo priest and question omen. So I think that's why people are playing it.
Speaker 2:
23:16
Gotcha. Okay. I might be wrong. No, no, I think you're probably right. You would know better than I would. It's, I haven't played that much ladder. So, um, do you want to talk about a, so we're talking about the quest [inaudible] because even though HS replay isn't calling that the tier one deck, it's, I mean the Metta revolves around the quest showman with, um, with the desert hairs. So yeah, I would say so. Yeah. Do you want to give a run down on like your, your experience going to ladder with it? Um, legend.
Speaker 5:
23:46
Yeah. Uh, sorry, I should've been a little more prepared. Um, I think that, um, it's, it's pretty easy deck to play. Um, one of the, uh, one of the things that you really obviously need to do with every deck, but especially this one is, uh, like against secret, uh, palliative, which I played, uh, a couple, not many. Um, but especially against priest, a combo priest and a death rattle priest, you need to have board. So, um, you need to just a Mulligan for early drops. But if I get a desert hair or an evolve in my hand, I straight up keep it. I just keep it and hope for the other half because if you can get that by turn three or turn four, uh, you really take the game over. But yeah. Yeah. And then obviously in the mirror match, uh, with you versus any other showman, it's, it's keep your sandstorm elementals first to evolve.
Speaker 5:
24:44
Um, uh, if I Mulligan into my mind control tech, I'm not sad. I wouldn't keep it on the mall, but uh, that's, that's if you fall behind at all. That's a really important way to, to come back and um, yeah. Yeah. Otherwise it's, it was pretty straight forward. Um, think games were ending a lot shorter than the previous meadow when I was playing question and I noticed it was like you take over the board and you can kind of finish the game a lot quicker. Um, yeah. So that's one of the reasons I actually enjoyed the deck a little quite a bit was like your games didn't last forever, which sometimes I like long games and sometimes I know, I don't know right now. It was fun.
Speaker 2:
25:23
Yeah. So my understanding was before Evolv came back into the meta one, Mike controlled tech usually. Right. But now it's like to my control techs for sure because everyone's going wide now basically. Right. And so you're, I even Shama that's going wide so no one can play around the mind control tech necessarily.
Speaker 5:
25:42
People I was still playing when mind control tech, but I think people had kind of decided on two mind control techs. But now it's like you're crazy if you're not playing to your right. Yeah. And um, yeah, I usually, I take a deck like this and then I'll trade out some fun things and I'll, I'll, I'll be like, no, you know, I think this one little card is a little bit better, but when you have a win rate like I was having the other day, you just, you don't move two days. Like, yeah. Sounds good.
Speaker 2:
26:09
Getting broke. Do you still have your deck put together?
Speaker 5:
26:13
Uh, yeah, actually I think the deck that I used is, uh, this deck pretty close that you have up here. I do. Yeah. I can post it. Yeah.
Speaker 2:
26:21
Yeah. Well, we'll just go ahead and like throw it onto the website and the show notes and stuff. So
Speaker 5:
26:25
I can't remember where I found it. I just Googled it and found it and plugged it in. So, yeah. All right,
Speaker 2:
26:31
cool. So, uh, each week we surf Reddit, accept friend requests and read the comment section of YouTube videos to ask Hearthstone fans. Why are you so salty?
Speaker 3:
26:46
I love it. That's my favorite. It's like I have, I have like pleasant dreams in my head where I just hear assaulted dog going, let's get salty. I don't even pick a favorite, but they're so good. The voice acting in Hearthstone is fantastic. I think it really helps make the game in it. I know. Um, I know some people, they're not as big on the yard or the themes. Those are so important to me as someone who loves art. Yeah, they, they do great with the voice acting. I love it. So the art, I like it. It's important. I doesn't like check my trigger, but like the story of the game I find to be so important. Right. Because otherwise, why play this specific game? You know, I think that that matters. And I think some of my favorite expansions have been those, those cool heavy story expansions.
Speaker 3:
27:35
So the thing we're about to talk about and the clip that we're about to talk about that that were some mentioned there, but we're going to watch this video a little bit. Yep. Oh cool. I didn't watch the video. I just, I was like, who's a big stream? My Crips, a big stream. Let's go to his Ute. It's going to his comments. I bet some of them are real dumb and more than one was real dumb. This one I thought was just kind of like great cause it's perfect. So, um, I can read it and that's one of you to want to read it now. All right. All right. So, alright. IDK. But why, what's up? Let's try that one again. Sorry. It's kind of goofy. Ivy K Y but I have been watching Crips videos for over years now and I keep doing it. I don't even know what that means.
Speaker 3:
28:24
That was the entire comment. And they have like six, like up votes. Like some people were like, yeah, I also been watching Crips video for years now and I keep doing it. It's like, all right, YouTube, comment up votes make no sense to me. It's the top thing is always like, who's watching this in 2019? And it's like a seven year old video back. I kind of feel bad for this person. I feel like they claim they don't know how to find other forms of entertainment. Like if they're not having fun, they don't move on to something more appealing. They're just like, I don't know why I post to be funny and it's just poorly formatted. But the fact that we don't know whether it was supposed to be funny, I became why, but I have been watching Crips videos for over years now and I keep doing it. Yeah. I think it's because you keep on pressing play dude. But my, my favorite part is like this guy was like, you know what? Or this, this, this gal could have been a woman. I don't know, probably a guy though because it's kinda dumb. But, uh, he was like, you know what, the internet and the means to know that. I don't know why I've been watching videos. If the funniest part of this comment is that you feel the need to post, it doesn't really add anything to anything.
Speaker 5:
29:42
No. The video though, the one part I was going to say from earlier is Crip actually talks about how old gods was his favorite expansion just with the story and the old gods and the art and the theme. And I was like, yeah, that was a really good expansion for that. That was lovely.
Speaker 2:
29:55
It was really good. It had like a very cohesive, uh, atmosphere and yeah, things are not quite matching up with the, um, the three gangs. One would probably my favorite for storyline. Yikes.
Speaker 5:
30:11
Okay. Let me just step in for a second and stop everyone from laughing and, or yelling at you because you couldn't remember the name of main streets of gadgets, son. Actually, nevermind. You sort of deserve to be left and for this one. Yeah,
Speaker 2:
30:26
like they just dove in so deep. Sorry, I forgot what's it called, but gadgets and, yes, thank you. Yeah. I thought they really just opened the story heavy in that expansion and unfortunately like the meadow wasn't good because patches and, and JJ kind of like took away all the good that was with that, um, expansion. But the story I thought was, and that, that huge buildup to it, like that was awesome.
Speaker 5:
30:52
Yeah. And it was like, and then the, the, like the gadgets in news or whatever one had clipped out, there was like, there's been a vault robbed and everyone was like, this is a theme for the new expansion. And everyone's like gangsters.
Speaker 2:
31:05
And don't forget they had that bot that you could go in and talk to and it would talk back to me [inaudible] that it, those comics leading up to it was so amazing. And I feel like it got like forgotten because the Metta was awful. Like it was a super poor Metta, but like the buildup that expansion in the story they built around that expansion was amazing. And they haven't lived up to that sense.
Speaker 5:
31:29
Oh no. Well, the one build up that actually my favorite expansion for theme and feel was, honestly, I don't want to sound cheesy. I think it was Ben Rhodes rap from an Goro light got me so excited. I remember being like, there's like tar elementals and then the animals are adapting. Okay. And then having Ben rap about it and be so excited about it. Like by the time it came out I was like, they're like tar elementals and the animals are adapting. But like I was like so excited.
Speaker 2:
31:59
Yeah. We'll meet with the solo content and write like that theme song got me so excited for the solo content for this expansion cause I just thought it was so great. Like the double flex from Reno. I just, every time I watch it, it still makes me smile.
Speaker 5:
32:13
But the young girl meadow followed through. Man, that was a fun expansion too. Anyway, we're, we shouldn't stop going out. What I really got from this, those people say this about Crip all the time. They always say like, I just love falling asleep to Crip and I hear that all the time and I'm like, like Crips fine. And he's great, but like I definitely don't like love his voice. Do you guys have a streamer that you just love the sound of their voice or like how they talk or, or like just listening to them. Do you guys have someone like that Magoo chance? This guy knows
Speaker 3:
32:40
his answer will. So I have said before that like I'll put Crip on if I'm like about to pass out. But I think largely it's because, because he's quiet for a lot of it. Like he doesn't, he's not constantly talking. A lot of the streamers that are on when I would watch are people like asthma and APX and just like pizza and I can't fall asleep to that cause I'm like glue. I'm like, all right, what are they doing? You know, I really want to pay attention to it. Um, and he's very laid back with a lot of how the stream, you know, all the actions in chat. So if you're too far away to see it or you got shot, minimize like it's, it's actually very, very chill. I like, I like APX for that actually. I think it's funny you said, Oh I like APX like if I'm tired and I'm like just catching them like the last little stream before I go to bed.
Speaker 3:
33:28
Like he's so calm, he was calm. So he's playing these goofy major attacks and I want to be like, what's going on with this? Like I want to see it and I get sucked in so I can't fall asleep when I get stuck then it is pretty complicated like often when it has decision making. Dan is there someone for you? I so I watch uh, eighties Cy fi and fantasy movies on Verve and like horror movies on Verve. That's how I fall asleep usually. Like you have that on with falling asleep. Interesting. Yeah. So I'll put on like, so like I'll put on like pick up like shutter and like watch like Billy Bob's last driving, like fall asleep to that. How often do you wake up screaming? Skidding cause it's cause it's like [inaudible] about like [inaudible] like you just can't get like scared at those movies cause you're just like, it's not like torture porn, which is, I just don't even think that's an extra, that's awful right side stuff.
Speaker 3:
34:24
Yeah. No, no. I have a cold like Craven and John Carson like 70s and 80s horror movies. Like they're great. Especially there's, she's so much fun, practical effects didn't really hold all that well and you can tell how cheesy they are now. Yeah. And so, yeah. So I love that kind of stuff. So that's funny. That's what I usually fall asleep to. Or like a history show on YouTube or something. So I watched like a couple of history channels on YouTube culturally. Yeah. So cool. I'm a weird, I'm a weirdo. Uh, so Laura's for nerds and nothing is nerdier than hosting a Hearthstone podcast page toner. So this week we are going to talk about in his off sort of, yes. I don't know what that means. Possibly. Maybe this the from lower master I gone so Aegon I don't know. Hey gone. It's his, it's his fault for having a name that I can't pronounce. I mean it's anyway, go ahead and gauge. So long ago, and I had ostensibly in a galaxy possibly far away as Roth was known as the black empire and
Speaker 4:
35:38
it was completely consumed by the corruption and influence of the old gods and their servants, the elemental Lords, the Titans became aware of the corruption, the old gods and led Titan forged armies against Yasha Raj ultimately destroying his corporeal farm, which is why I assume he can like summon a minium from your deck. Sure. Um, so this, this victory nearly sundered the planet. Uh, in fact, according to the wow Chronicle, Laura master Aegon actually paid for with real money, uh, as Roth used to be a Pangea like single continent until the destruction of the well of eternity, which is this another well or thing that Yaga had been messing with? I don't know that one, but at the same one we've already talked about, cause I honestly know that was the forges. Oh of course. Yeah. So this when this, when as well was destroyed, it shattered the continent into several pieces and they drifted apart as tectonics work. Uh, and it became clear to the Titans of the old gods had so completely infected the planet with their powers and their influence that killing the gods could kill as Roth as well.
Speaker 5:
36:49
So that's kind of like when someone's super addicted to Hearthstone and he threatened to take Hearthstone.
Speaker 4:
36:57
That sounds about right. Yeah. Looking to break all the plates and just let them, we got gotta let him do his dailies. I feel attacked. Three and four year wins. It's cool that it is three warrior wins. So we thought, no clear path forward. The Titans elected to imprison the old gods as to contain their evil while not destroying the planet. So, you know, we'll, we'll just put them in the basement and all that screaming and totally not gonna get to us eventually. I was like, yes. It's great for a video game where it's like, I don't want to come up with like new weird names. So how about the same ones keep coming back because they can't be destroyed. Huh? Um, so the imprisonment of Nasar specifically has not been fully laid out in Canon, but if the a hosts of the show want to create and play retail, wow. Uh, uh, they're welcome to find out more about our favorite sea-based old God way. And you must know that he was a C based olds. God. No,
Speaker 5:
37:56
I did. Yeah cause remember no, those lost first mate. There's the guy running the mosquito with the, he's like a pirate. I remember hearing all about his off being under the ocean. Doesn't he personally like cause for the Naga and stuff, I might be wrong. Don't listen to me.
Speaker 4:
38:11
No. Yeah, he, we get to talk about the Naga here in a second. So yes, you're right on about that. Right. So I'm his author offered queen a Shara of the high born ideal work for me and I won't destroy your kingdom and its people. I'll take it, I'll take it. [inaudible] you showed it. It's just, I'm kinda, but this is way older than that. So Shara ever the bold, insisted on remaining queen and working side by side with Ntozake cause that's totally how these kinds of deals go. But for reasons which will soon be revealed, he accepted and was like you do your thing. And this decision led to the high born elves becoming the Naga. Oh so many of them, which is NC, which is many years later after the heroes of AZA, Roth had claimed who lyrically unlikely victories against both Kissoon and Geox are on ms off kinda knew he was in trouble. So he did the most logical thing you could think of. Corrupt death Wang, nothing can go wrong there. No. So uh, the leader of the black dragon flight will now go race some heck and some pulses as well and bring about the cataclysm in world of Warcraft and uh, it's been recommended to go check out the opening cinematic for cataclysm on YouTube cause apparently it's awesome. I'm going to go do that when we're done here.
Speaker 3:
39:33
Yeah. When I watched it, when it first came out, actually I went back to world of Warcraft for like two weeks. I was so awesome when I stopped, when I broke free of my wow. Addiction. That's the closest I came back to plain was when cataclysm happened. I was like, dad is cool, but no, no, I will not say that. Yeah. So during the candidate
Speaker 4:
39:57
[inaudible], uh, two of the elemental Lords, that would be Ragnar Rose and Alec here kept their loyalty tunes off and waged war against the heroes of Azur auth while the other two Naptilan salon and [inaudible] who have never heard of it before. I mean, I know everything about broke free, the bonds of slavery, the old God had over them. And that's the end of part one because Laura master Aegon didn't want to spoil the resolution because it's, I guess alive and retail right now. And also bad spoilers. And also he don't want to know yet.
Speaker 3:
40:27
You don't want that one
Speaker 4:
40:31
really for part two of new South stuff,
Speaker 3:
40:38
I think it's called no stuff. Um, but uh, what are we doing? Many good things. All good. All good things. I want to take this moment to thank everyone who is. So when I, when I read that like two elemental Lords, Ragnar, she's like, Whoa, so good. I was like, Oh, Alec, here. It's like, Oh, not great. And it's like nip to law. And I was like, Ooh, real bad. And then the very rare, I don't know who that one is not even good enough for a card. So I was like, wow. So the ones that kept their loyalty, one is like amazing. One is good in like very specific Meadows and usually stops being good very quickly. And then one was always terrible. And then the fourth, what there is seen is a, he's the frat guy who hangs over three now when our renos frat buddies. There
Speaker 5:
41:34
you go.
Speaker 2:
41:35
Nice. All right, so it's time for the rope. Oh, I love that fuse thing. So we're changing up the rope now that we have three co-hosts. So each week, uh, one of us is going to ask, uh, one question, the other two are going to answer it and we're just gonna ask her, ask one question each week. So a, and throw them on. You are up first,
Speaker 5:
42:01
right? So my question is, what aspect of Hearthstone as an e-sport captures your attention the most? What keeps you tuned in versus tuning out?
Speaker 2:
42:12
Uh, I just kind of love learning more about the game cause I can watch a streamer and like heck 70% of the time, like a streamer won't like always explain why they're doing certain things and then sometimes they will. So it's like hit or miss whether you get like actual, like decent content, like, you know, why are you doing X, Y, or Z? Um, and the rest of it's kind of like conversations with chat and it's like, it's entertainment, right? So I w I love about like the e-sport aspect is seeing how like great players play the game and then having other great players explain those moves. Right? Why they did X, Y or Z versus a, B or C.
Speaker 4:
42:52
yeah, I'd say it's, it's pretty on the money. Um, in terms of like the competitive e-sport part of it, um, what makes me watch is like the high level play. Um, analysis is interesting because of the way the turns, how long a turn is and that there you're pretty much, whenever you're watching any kind of tournament, it's you rope every single turn. So there may be struggling
Speaker 6:
43:14
keep up. But um, there's no story and I think that's the bomb part. We're kind of getting there with relegation but it's really just high level play that keeps me alive.
Speaker 2:
43:24
Oh, I told you this. Agree. So like the East port aspect has been the part that's kind of brought me back to Hearthstone over the years and it really is like watching like I want to see Pavel kind of do well because he wanted me all those packs and now like he's like my favorite. I'm always cheering for Pablo or like fire back to see fire bat get good again. Right. Or like play at the competitive level that you know, he's capable of a game. We'll also trying to stream. So I think those storylines are actually there through, through like the GM, even with the mistakes of the, the, you know, format getting dull. I wish they would change the format up a little bit, like every week, but I think that the storylines are kind of getting there more so than in the past. So good. Sounds good. Alright, so my question, what makes you, what keeps you pressing the play button, uh, while playing Sharman stone here as a shaman craft?
Speaker 4:
44:19
Uh, sure. Um, rogue shenanigans. Um, goofy brawls like the one we had a couple of weeks ago. I mean, I will, I will always pick up a rogue deck and that's, you know, I, I have easy answers. Like I, I love rogue enough to keep playing it even when it's, you know, in the staring down the face of adversity. But yeah, I have like a very deep love for the class and that'll keep bringing me back.
Speaker 5:
44:42
Cool. My answer is you can still win a, I don't think this is the most dominant class in a meta. I think we've had a lot worse, um, kind of suffocating, suffocating, uh, T top tier decks. Um, it's annoying. So like that draw for the evolve targets and things. It's, it's not consistent enough to make it feel really awful unless you get two or three in a row and then you just feel kinda sad. But that hasn't happened to me yet. So, um, also though it's annoying to me. The annoying part about it actually is just that there aren't more classes on and the on that run I had.
Speaker 6:
45:20
Um, but yeah, yeah, I think, yeah, I just want to see more classes. Um, but I also think we're slipping
Speaker 5:
45:29
figuring out the meta and, um, I think more classes will be played as people figure out what works against showman,
Speaker 2:
45:37
you know, in priest. But there you go.
Speaker 7:
45:41
Yeah.
Speaker 4:
45:42
All right. So usually there's a couple of goofy card interactions we get with the new sets. Um, it's to be expected cause they can't test everything. But it feels like there's been a couple of more bugs than normal lately. We've, we've had some issues with the new hero portraits. We've had the craftable doom and the tube and cards being given as arena rewards. I'm not to go to exhaustive list, but Zephyr's animation plays twice. Zildjian's hero power animation is missing and there's an ice block bug in the solo content that just crashes the game. So do you think this is indicative of rushing content out? Is this a symptom of the unity platform and so-called spaghetti code or is there something else at play that's causing these we guys think is the issue going on here?
Speaker 7:
46:26
Yeah.
Speaker 5:
46:28
Um,
Speaker 2:
46:29
I mean probably is the, the platform, right? So that, that appears to be like what they say is the problem. And it seems like, you know, whenever we do have these kinds of issues, it's an easy thing to kind of blame. I was kind of unaware of any of these until you brought it up. So I mean, the golden card backs the new card backs I was aware of, but now whatever, like I've, I assume they'll fix that. It'd be nice if they just said, Hey, we know this is broken and we're working on it. Yeah. But, uh,
Speaker 5:
46:58
the worst part is my hair portraits were working fine until I got on chat with you guys know they call the hero portraits are working and I was like, yeah, they are. And the next time I logged in they weren't working and now
Speaker 2:
47:08
no, it was the same for me. Yeah. My were working in that. They stopped working yesterday. I was like, Oh, bummer was kind of working and now it's not.
Speaker 5:
47:18
Do you mind if I yeah, my take on it is they're doing more than ever and whether they have spaghetti code or it's the idea of unity across the platforms, they're doing more than ever. There's more images, more voices. Um,
Speaker 6:
47:31
and uh, more things in the solo content. Uh, the hero powers the old cards coming back in. They're finally doing them.
Speaker 5:
47:38
The stuff that we kind of want them to do and yeah, they're, the more you change in a game, the more bugs they're are going to be. That's just how development works. Um, so if these bugs are just because they're doing more things, bring them on, bring on the bugs. Um, yeah. The worst one for me was just the game crashing. Um, when I went to two, it was the one man, a free something, um, made spell. I use that a few times and it would crash my, my game on my phone, but I just log back in. It was mine.
Speaker 2:
48:12
Yeah, I agree with that. Give me a quest. So if you want to give us a quest, you can tweet, tweet@theshowatsquelchcastorsendanemailtothedragonboxatsquelchcasteatgmail.com. So it's a Christmas miracle because Mapuche actually completed the quest this week. So womb, I wish I had like the applause like queued up when you hit like a one at 1515 that kids face.
Speaker 4:
48:39
Hey [inaudible] you should definitely pull that, that bump out for something.
Speaker 2:
48:45
Yeah, I have it ready to go. I just haven't got it set up for this, so I have to, I'll have to fix that. Uh, but this was a ton of fun. So Bob, just Bob on Twitter, many thanks for sending this one in. So this quest was, we had to play you play any deck, any class, but the stat line of the minions had to be the same. So for example, I chose three threes and throw them on chose two threes and Magoo chose eight eights.
Speaker 4:
49:14
So Magoo, how did you do with this quest? So I made a joke about, or before I was like, Oh, just this stuff, a whole bunch of giants in there. And then I realized with Druid that, um, the spells that I would be using to get treatments like I'm at, which would Apple landscaping, uh, poisoned seeds are going to discount mulch Monture and arcane giant and see giant. So this is pretty much it. Um, I need, so really top heavy deck. I have a w Ragnaros Lich King two mulch muncher nefarious and then to each of our Canaan mountain giants, um, not sheet with a double dream way. Guardians, by the way, I mean there's a lot of tokens, Yad dream guardians and spreading plagues and they didn't really fit with everything else being on tutus. But Nope, make first for me. I appreciate it. But yeah, I mean it came together better than I thought it would. I also, because it was wild, I wast out at first and I was just playing on casual and I, I did go through two. So it was like, all right, I'll take it out. And I went one and four on the real ladder. Um, I did beat a tot quest warrior, uh, because they just ran out of pee. They used shield slams
Speaker 2:
50:28
way too early and just did, there's threat density in here to where I was being able to drop one or more eight eights, like every turn and believe you didn't predict you're playing eight dragons but a loser.
Speaker 5:
50:46
That's one of my favorite things about playing a weird deck. Right. And it's actually one of the advantages you get playing an off Mehta deck and it's not usually enough to make up for the weakness of your deck, but it is pretty fun to watch people miss play around when you're playing a different kind of deck on letter. It's pretty fun
Speaker 2:
51:01
and you know, ferocious hell on earth and scales definitely got me like a little bit of extra leeway in there that this could probably be, be tuned to be a little more playable. But, uh, I, I enjoyed it.
Speaker 5:
51:12
Cool. Nice. How about you and throw them on? Yeah, I had a blast, but I realized after I realized this morning driving to work, I was thinking about it and I was like, I should have played two fours. Why didn't I play two fours with the a beer thing last year? That would have been great. Um, but uh, ah, I don't know why I didn't even think about it could have included like the brewmaster in there and everything. Uh, no, but I mean two, three, so I made like kind of tempo rogue two, three decks. Uh, I think, uh, my thought original thought was, um, what was my original thought? I can't remember if something didn't work right with it. I can't remember. I dunno. But to put the car dry, well, no, but I'm Sarah night taskmaster and dollar in librarian. Um, I wanted that combo.
Speaker 5:
51:58
And then just like Amani Berzerker, blood sale Raider. Uh, and then of course Shaku right. A snips, snapper. I just, uh, I just, uh, made him and you got Argus and then the impetus, realistic. Yeah, no, it was actually something else and I can't remember what it was now anyway. Um, but uh, Oh there was a card that uh, that had rotated. I can't remember what it was. Uh, it doesn't matter. Um, but I had a blast and yeah, I realize I forgot to put the car dry him. Like I meant to put it in and I just was like, I'm digging it up. I almost won that first game without it. And then, uh, I won the second game. Felt really good. I had been in both games. I was like, here we go. How's that rank for? And taken names. And then I lost a three more in a row. So those didn't go as well and I went one and four, but I had fun. It was great. What a great question. I,
Speaker 2:
52:46
it was so much fun. I also cheated. So I played the, uh, I did three threes cause warrior has a bunch of good three threes and there are some other good three threes out there as well. And then I played the a hack the system, the uh, the quest from warrior and then just a whole bunch of weapons, like just like all whole bunch of weapons. And then so like then I also played like the right caliber and um, the clockwork goblins, I got put some bombs index as well. So I actually went, actually went two and three with this dad. I like the Iraqi weapon Smith in there actually. Thank you. Thank you. It was well cause I had to have enough wet cause the whole idea was I had to make a bunch of four threes. Right. So I just had to have a weapon equipped all the time.
Speaker 3:
53:26
So I was like, okay, how can I always have a weapon equipped. Yeah. So like I will keep upgrade just to like go faced with like the one three weapon just to get that quest online. Yeah. Um, and it, yeah, it was actually good. I guess it was just good against control decks because it was the same situation. Like you hit Magoo Chad with like the A's but it was with for three so I would just keep on putting two, four, three, three, four, threes out every single turn and eventually stop being able to handle it. I was going to say was what's the problem? Just that you kept equipping weapons and they were like no one's running weapon removal in this meadow. Like what do you have nine outright weapons. Two from the weapon Smith and to upgrade. Yeah. Yeah. So phrase right there. So phrases just legit, awesome cause once you get, you get cell three as equipment, then you get to go face with it. You go, you go like you know, clear minion and then you get to make a four three and he clearly made me gonna go forward three and you cleared meaning you couldn't make a four with three then you go face and you just feel really good about that. That's the one that I forgot how weapon durability worked on like the first podcast.
Speaker 3:
54:30
It's funny, but it was the end of the life drinkers like that. I would've gotten three and two, but I was, uh, I was, uh, playing against side, uh, SciQuest shotgun on ladder and they were able, they, I had lethal next turn and they topped deck, um, the nine drop, uh, clause that bite Blake on his name. But, um, not only did you forget the name of shutter walk, but you got what he says wrong as well. So congratulations. I guess what shudder walk actually says is my jaws that bite my claws that catch, thanks for keeping me busy today, Dan. Okay. I appreciate the work. So yeah, so I, I would've been there, but a clause that bike got me. So, so that was disappointing. They were, they were there at, it was lethal, was there, but then they'd just talked it up. I couldn't get past it.
Speaker 3:
55:20
So yeah, that was tons of fun. I enjoyed it a lot. It was definitely a good one. It was a ton of fun. And I'm, I'm counting that other losses of women because I got so close. So, so three and two. It is. So three and two with the three, three deck. So congratulations me. You got to play one more game, man. Yep. That's [inaudible] record up there. I don't because I'll just lose again cause it's not a good deck. He finally admitted it. I know that the double course Corsair and there as well as like, you know those were always free basically. So yeah, it was a lot of fun. We should do a little round Robin with these at some point before they, before we forget. Oh we should, we shouldn't do that. And we'll post all these during the show notes and we'll also get them up on the website.
Speaker 3:
56:08
So there you go. That's it for this week. If you like what you're listening to, tell a friend a, put a post it note on a friend's desk if you want. Or like a Bolton board. You can like tack onto a bulletin board somewhere. That's also super cool. Do this hand drawn QR codes. Yeah, yeah. Hand drawn QR code if you can do that. That's really neat. Send me a picture of it in the back of your roommate's underwear.
