The ED/BC Podcast. You think you hate it now, but wait until you listen to it.
Welcome back to another edition of the EDBC podcast. Eric Dobratz and Brian Coleman. Uh we are getting ready for the NFL, Brian, here on August the 30th. We're taping this on a Sunday night. I don't even know when the NFL starts. Is it next week, Brian? A Wednesday, a Tuesday?
SPEAKER_00So when hey, listen, I don't care about all those ancillary games. What do you call it? I'm using the right word. I might be doing some mad dog dialogue here. I'm just saying two weeks from tonight, Eric, we will be at seven o'clock, we will be uh most of the first full Sunday of NFL football will be under our belt. And if you're in this house, you know, I'll be gearing up for Cowboys Giants primetime Sunday night, two weeks from tonight. That's their season opener.
SPEAKER_01So how will you handle that? How will you handle that in your house? Uh you're handle it.
SPEAKER_00I'm gonna go downstairs and watch TV. No one's gonna bother me for two hours. Three hours.
SPEAKER_01So you're gonna you're you're you're the game you care about the most is the eight o'clock at night.
SPEAKER_00Yeah.
SPEAKER_01So is a free to say the wife could schedule something at 1.30 with the kids to go apple picking or something, or is that out of the question?
SPEAKER_00No, it's not out of the question because as we mentioned, I think we did this on the show a couple weeks ago. You were running down because we were talking about there's that Wednesday night game, Pat Seahawks ticket off on the NF NBC season opener. There's a that bizarre Thursday night game. And then you said there's a Friday night game. Long story short, the fur the really, unfortunately, because again, they got too many mouths to feed, as you've often said, the first Sundays late is kind of sucky. Yeah. I mean, if you know, I if I don't even know the Jets open against the Titans or somebody. I mean, if that floats your boat, God bless you. But if it's a nice day out, I mean Mike, if the wife and kids want to do something on a fall on one of the first fall Sundays of the year, I'm fine as long as I'm in front of the teeth for uh Tariko and uh Mr. Collins worth it 820.
SPEAKER_01Yeah, take a bullet, right, if you can during that first day, because I know you look like a good guy as well. Hey, it's first NFL Sunday. I'm not paying attention, blah, blah, blah. Uh, a couple things from the NFL, Brian, real quick. Joe Fignano, the former UConn quarterback, did make it with the Baltimore Ravens. He did make it as their third quarterback behind Lamar Jackson, Ty Huntley. I don't know if you saw it last week. We had Joe on our Channel 8 uh podcast called Life of Sports, our competitor that we strictly you know go up against. But Joe came on the show, uh, talked about how hard he's been working and what a thrill it's been for him. So we made it, Brian. He had a great camp. And a lot of people right on the cut line there. But you know, you put him on the practice squad, you make him uh uh vulnerable to other teams being quarterbacks. So they put him on the 53-man roster. I'd be curious to see how things go over the next couple days, but things could change again. But as of right now, he is on the 53-man roster. Uh Will Levitt, former quarterback from Madison, played at Xavier High School, played at Kentucky, played at Penn State. He was cut by the Tennessee Titans today. They've been trying to trade him for a couple weeks, which we all knew. Um Will will get a fresh start. Brian, he's gonna sign somewhere. The guy's got a rocket for an arm. He hasn't been healthy, and you know, some question is uh ability to throw the the ball to the other team. So we'll have to see what happens with our friend Will Levett.
SPEAKER_00Yeah, I mean, best of luck. He had a rough, let's be honest, he had a rough uh go of it when he was Titan starter. You know, now they're definitely team stunk too, by the way.
SPEAKER_01Which uh team stunk too, by the way.
SPEAKER_00Oh, absolutely, Erica. We'll get to the Titans in a little while. Um with our over-unders, which we left one of my favorite shows to do all year. But I wish Will Levis the best. You know, teams always need a quarterback, and there's enough quote-unquote gurus around the NFL. You will always find the guy who thinks I can make something out of that guy. So, I mean, you know, look at Malik Willis, who had the same thing. Mid-round pick by the Titans, went to Green Bay, had a good showing as a backup. Now he's got, you know, now he's a starter. And I'm not saying that's gonna happen to Will Levis, but he's gonna get another chance.
SPEAKER_02I'd love to see him go to the Jets Brian. Why not? Why not? They can use a backup. Hell they can use a big thing.
SPEAKER_01I wouldn't if I was him. I would go find a quarterback guru, as you mentioned, go see if he can get on the practice squad with Sean McVeigh. Uh, someone along those lines. Uh you know, go work with uh try Andy Reid. You know, go sit and watch Patrick Mahomes play for uh 16 weeks and see what it takes to be an NFL quarterback, something like that.
SPEAKER_00But we'll you know there's 37, there's like five Kubi X uh coaching teams now. I believe uh Arizona is one of them, and you know, don't they don't have a quarterback. I mean, go maybe a team like that be good for him.
SPEAKER_01Yeah, be healthy, go impressed, learn as much as you can. Uh Brian, I don't know if you care. Aaron Donald is back in the NFL. I know that's something people have been talking about for a while. Your thoughts about Aaron Donald coming back to join the Rams.
SPEAKER_00Yeah, I mean, that blew up over social media right around the time the NFL cuts were coming in this afternoon. Aaron Donald sort of hijacked NFL media for a few minutes while teams were getting their cuts and having them announced. I think you listen, uh, we're a lot of people are already crowning the Rams, and this move sort of put the Rams over the top as the prohibitive favorites. You know, I don't know. The guy hasn't played in two years, and he's 35. So if you're expecting like 2019 Aaron Donald, I think that's really kind of being unrealistic. But without when not and without going through the Ram depth chart, on the it's a very good defensive line. They got Miles Garrett there now, by the way. Oh, by the way, remember that train.
SPEAKER_03Yeah.
SPEAKER_00So if they get like 70% Aaron Donald or can play him in like third downs, or just you know, give him 30 snaps a game, I think that's gonna be huge for them. So it's a great and by the way, I don't think anyone was surprised by this. He's been leaving breadcrumbs for months. So I was more thing like, I'm sure they get the cut down day, they know what the roster's gonna be. Aaron Donald's like training camp. No training camp for me. And now he's there, he's gonna he'll be time have time to ramp up.
SPEAKER_01His name is escaping me, but the guy who's signed on to Vaughn Miller. Is that who I'm thinking?
SPEAKER_00Yeah, Vaughn Miller, yeah.
SPEAKER_01That type of guy who just comes in, plays on third down, or as a specialist, good for the locker room. Uh uh, I don't know. Talk about your cowboys, Brian. They made some, they did cut a Connecticut guy. I also saw they cut uh the first Navajo player to sign with an NFL team today. They cut him a little while ago. His last name is Pete. Yeah, sure. I see Pete. I think his name was a tough team. Yeah, he was let go today, too.
SPEAKER_00So Justin Barron, a lot of linebacker from Syracuse, who was, I guess, from Blastingbury. Nice write-up by Donna Mori in the current last week. Hard for current about Justin. And uh he's he was there last year, so he got cut by the Cowboys, but hopefully for him because we like the local guys. He I think he's got an excellent chance to go back on the practice squad. So uh I think he'll be, you know, obviously disappointing, but hopefully he makes it. But yeah.
SPEAKER_01Well, so the NFL season, as we mentioned, right around the corner, and Brian, we'll get right to it. Some of your favorite things to do, uh, shows to do are the over-unders about the NFL. Um I that's I think it's tricky, Brian. I looked over the list a little bit, some of the things you sent me. Um, I had a couple in mind already. But I'll tell you, man, it's just it's tricky. The schedules you gotta really pay attention, man. Like some things you say, no-brainer. I think you just gotta go with your gut. If you see something you like, Brian, you just gotta take it right away. Uh, I would flip a coin with you or something. I don't know who won the over-unders last year.
SPEAKER_00Uh you did, because I you went two and I remember and I'm gonna I'm bookmarking it this year so we can make ourselves make fun of ourselves again in January after the regular season's over. You won a robust two and three, which is better than my one and four. Yeah. So we're back at it again, folks. If you're for the folks who just love to gamble, you've come to the right podcast.
SPEAKER_01Uh I wouldn't say that, because who knows what the hell we're talking about. But uh, so I will take the first pick and then Brian will get the next two. Is that how you'd like to do this, Brian? Sure. Uh we'll go first pick just for fun. I'm gonna take an over.
SPEAKER_00Okay.
SPEAKER_01And I'm gonna take this team whose number is eight and a half wins, and I'm gonna go over with your Dallas Cowboys.
SPEAKER_00Wow. Okay. Uh I don't touch the Cowboys because I'm uh super. I know, that's why I took them. All right, go ahead. Give me shoot me some info.
SPEAKER_01I just I think that I think the division, I think the Giants are still gonna be down a little bit. Um I think the Eagles are gonna be down from where they've been the last couple years and have gotten older. Uh I I think that if uh what is it saying? If not now, when Brian. If not now, when so if the Cowboys are running, you know, they've got to do it now. If they want to do it, they've got to win the division. Go win 10 games. I think winning nine games, the eight and a half number? I could see them winning ten. So I'm gonna take the Dallas Cowboys because I think the division is down a little bit. I haven't paid too much attention to their out-of-competence schedule, Brian. But the division is down a little bit, and I think that'll help them get to that nine.
SPEAKER_00I'd love to play the AFC West, the NFC East does this year. And uh so that's yeah, I mean, I'm uh things I'd be excited about is again, they brought every starter back from offense, which is incredible in this day and age. I mean, you always lose a starter. And it's the second year under the Brian Schott and Hyman Clayton Adams offense, which looked really good last year. Uh again, I'm a little scared because the defense is also brand new and uh it was awful last year, but I'm I like what you're going, but I can't endorse or not endorse it because I am very superstitious. So all right, so that you said yeah, eight and a half Dallas, you Eric takes the over. That's the first one. All right. I always try to pick one of the three teams that we consider local here, Eric. And I sort of like like to start off with one of those, so I know sort of because sometimes they're the hardest. And when I say the three teams we talk about the most, I'm of course we're talking about the the new the New York City area teams, the Giants and the Jets, and the Patriots. Yep. I really had it and I struggled with this. I especially the Giants, because I don't know what to make of the Giants, but that's another time. I'm taking the Patriots are nine and a half, defending AFC East champions, defending AFC champions. I'm uh I'm taking the under on the Patriots.
SPEAKER_01That was nine and a pick, Brian. You stole it from me.
SPEAKER_00All right, well, that's okay. That's okay. We could share picks, but uh nine and a half I would feel a lot better if it were ten and a half. I would slam the under, I'd make it a uh, you know, a smooth Jimmy Apollo lock of the year. Uh but nine and a half with that schedule and all the things that had to go right for them last year, and not really getting hit with too many serious injuries. Uh uh and I don't really think they've done anything bad there if lost to Major Peace. I mean, I love the AJ Brown, I love the AJ Brown trade for them. I don't like giving up a first-round pick, but I think he's gonna be great for Drake with the way Drake, you know, Drake may throw a deep ball to AJ Brown. I would listen, if you're a fantasy owner, get out of that action. So, but I just think there's a lot I think the division might be no, not the division, I think the conference is gonna be better this year, and I think the Patriots were just like a sort of right team, right time. And I don't know if they can repeat that. They had a lot go right last year, including a paper thin schedule.
SPEAKER_01They did. They did. All right, so you take the Patriots under. What's your next one, Ryan? You get the first two here.
SPEAKER_00So well, I'm I didn't mean to plan it out this way, but I'm I'm looking at both Super Bowl teams. You had the Patriots at nine and a half, I'm taking the under. You got the Seattle Seahawks at 10.5. Yep. And that team's low to me. I'm taking the over. I don't know if this team is as good as the Rams, but I don't think they're much worse than the Rams. I know the Rams are the heck favorite for the division, the heck of the favorite for the Super Bowl. Uh but the Seahawks lost a few guys, but I think they did a nice job of replacing guys. You know, they got the rookie running back from Notre Dame to replace Kenneth Walker. They still have uh Zach Charbonneau coming back. So and they love to run the ball. We know that. So they'll still be able to do that. They got a good offensive line. I think Sam Darnold looks really comfortable. Uh we I don't know if JSN is going to be the best wide receiver in the league last year, but he was awesome, and I don't think he's gonna be much worse. So that's a huge thing. And then the other thing is that and just the fact that, you know, dude, uh that's a pretty solid offense with a really still really good defense. I don't know if they're gonna win 13 or 14 games, whatever they won last year, but damn, this team should be able to east goal 11 and 6, even in that division. He split with the Rams team, still gonna make it 11 and 6. So I'm taking the defending champs. I don't really think I'm gonna pick them to go back to the Super Bowl, but I'm taking the 10 and a half over.
SPEAKER_01I'm gonna go with another over, Brian, for my second pick. I'm gonna take the Tampa Bay Buccaneers over eight and a half. I think this is terrible. Uh I think Baker Mayfield has got something approved. He's got a chip on his shoulder. The preseason in the preseason, they talked about a contract extension. He didn't like the terms they offered him. I think he's tough, man. He battled some injuries last year. I mean, the problem with this is you don't trust the end. Do not trust him. As far as I can throw him. But again, eight and a half. I can I think you just get to nine, Brian. I think that's doable. Um, I know they've made some changes, they've gotten old as well, but I think they still have a good offensive line. And I again that division just does not scare me. This can blow up in my face, but uh I'm gonna take Tam Bay Bucks at nine win.
SPEAKER_00All right. So you've got two overs in the NFC to start us off. So let's go to your third team, Mr. Dobretz.
SPEAKER_01Well, you can go now. You can go now. You could oh wait, how do we I thought we're going one and two, one and two, so I did two.
SPEAKER_00You did two.
SPEAKER_01I would do one, two, one, one, one, one, the rest of the year.
SPEAKER_00All right, fine. But this like can be a five. All right, so I've already nailed down my first two. We mentioned it at the top of the show, uh, because Will Levis and I don't rarely do we talk about the Tennessee Titans within the first five minutes of the show, but we're doing that again because the Titans are a six and a half point uh overunder, and I am comfortable taking the under. I don't know what this team has done much to improve. Um, I don't know. I kind of like the quarterback. I know you do. He keeps he's a Miami Hurricane.
unknownYep.
SPEAKER_00I think he's got some talent, and I like the I think the receiver they took out of Ohio State with like the fourth pick will be good. Yep. But I don't know that how much I you're you're asking me to put a lot of eggs into Bob Stella, Brian David, a basket basket, and I'm not really there yet. You know, nothing against Robert Stella. I'm glad he got a second chance, I guess. And that's not, but that's a tougher division than people think. I think the Texans, you know, the Texans have an all-world defense, so they're gonna at least be decent. I agree. Um, Daniel Jones could just be okay, the Colts can make some noise. Jaguars won the division last year, so I mean they don't have a lot. It's not a great division, but it's not a bad division. They don't have a gimme in their division, like oh, like there's no Jets in their division. I agree. And I just haven't seen enough. And you know, again, with their free agent acquisitions, you know, signing a bunch of guys from the New York Giants are not there's I like uh Wandale, Rob, whatever's the uh the wide receiver. But you know, like Cordell Flott and Daniel Bellinger, ex-Giants, aren't moving the needle for me. I'm sorry. I just I think this is a team that's gonna still be kind of a non-factor, and not a team we're gonna be running to watch on the television this fall. So I am taking the Tennessee Titans, and they're six and a half win over under, and I am taking the under portion.
SPEAKER_01I'm gonna take an under and I'm gonna stay in the NFC, Brian. I went back and forth. I have two unders I like in the NFC, two, but uh I'm gonna go west, young man. Uh I'm gonna take the 49ers under 10 and a half wins. I know they got some good news that George Kittle's gonna play, but I think George Kittle's allowed I I predict him to kind of be like the Chiefs were last year, Brian. I I think the window is closed for the 49ers. They've got a lot of turnovers, they have a lot of age on that roster. I don't think Purdy's gonna be great without a I mean he still has a great running back, obviously, but I for some reason you picked the the Seahawks to go over the 10 and a half, and I'm right there with you. I just think the I think the window's closing for the 49ers. They've had a weird offseason of coaching car accident. I just something seems off about them, and I could see them, you know, were they gonna win nine games? Maybe ten, but I think ten and a half is a little too often. I'm gonna take the under, and again, all they have to do is not win eleven, and I could see them not winning eleven games.
SPEAKER_00Yeah, and you know, you mentioned again, you get you got two games with the Rams and two games with the foot with the Seahawks, and uh those teams on paper. It's interesting because about two months ago I would have said I'm definitely 49ers feel like an underdog team to me this year. And you're 100% right. It's been a weird couple months, and I the vibe is not good. So, all right, so you've got three down here, all three NFC teams. You've got two overs and one, I'm two NFC teams rather, two overs and one under. All right, so is it my turn?
SPEAKER_01Yes, now I've got to find an AFC team while you're going on here. Go ahead.
SPEAKER_00All right, I've got my last two are both from uh the same division. The AFC, I guess I'm teasing my my last, which my last one's gonna be, or one of them. Uh I'm gonna go to the NFC North for my last two, and I'm gonna start with the Chicago Bears on nine and a half. Their number is nine and a half. Um lost to players on defense. That's concerning me, and their defense is a little overrated last year. They gave up a ton of a ton of yards, but got a lot of uh turnovers. But having said that, it sounds like I'm gonna go under. I'm actually taking the nine and a half, and I'm going over on the Bears. Wow. I think they're gonna, I think they're gonna be better. I am I am one of those guys. I know he's a hot young, we all love him. He's a hot young coach. I do believe in Ben Johnson. I think he gets just a little bit more of Caleb out of the run out of the quarterback. He doesn't have to make a huge leap, you know, become a superstar because I'm not sure he's there yet. But if he can just be get incrementally better, they've got I'm putting a lot of eggs in the young wide receiver baskets like Luther Burden and Roma Duze. I'm like, I'm like projecting that they're gonna be really good. They had that good tight end last year. We had a great rookie year. So I think their offense is gonna be like a top five offense again. And I'm not sure about the defense, but to me, if this was 10 and a half, I would have stayed the hell away. But nine and a half, I I think Chicago can get there.
SPEAKER_01I'm gonna take an over from the AFC, Brian. All right. 10 and a half is the number, and I think they're gonna win 11 games. I think it's right on the button. But you know what? Uh again, kind of like I said, with the Cowboys, I could see this team playing the Cowboys in the Super Bowl. As a matter of fact, it might be my Super Bowl.
SPEAKER_03Oh, wow.
SPEAKER_01I'm gonna take the Buffalo Bills over 10 and a half, Brian. Similar reasons we talked about. Jets, Miami, uh, not great team. I think the Patriots are gonna take a step back because the schedule you talked about. Uh, I love the idea that Sean McDermott is gone. I'm not blaming Sean McDermott, Brian, but you know, sometimes when you have a head coach there who's lost some big games, who can be a little conservative, can get a little tight in big games. I like the idea of Brady. You know, the former offensive corner taking over his head coach. Uh he'll let the other guys handle the defense. I think Josh Allen will be a little freer to do his thing. Not that he isn't anyway. But for some reason, much like the Cowboys, if not now, when Buffalo Bills over 10 and a half.
SPEAKER_00Okay. Uh I'll give I'll have to say that was one of the ones I looked at, and I was just, I couldn't, I couldn't make up my mind, so I whooshed out and I went another direction. So I'll go back to my final one. Uh, and I'm staying in, again, the NFC North. And I'm the Green Bay Packers right now, same as the Buffalo Bills, 10.5. And I'm taking the under. Uh, Eric is a top division. I think Detroit's gonna be better. I think Chicago will still be really good. At least it's you know, they should at least split with those teams. Uh but this team lost a lot of people in the offseason, and they didn't really replace them. They're doing a lot of like, well, this guy that we drafted two years ago that really hasn't done much of anything, we're gonna have to hope that he's got stuff. You know, they lost to my receivers, Romeo Dobbs went to New England, uh, Wicks went to the uh the Eagles, and their thing was like, well, remember Matthew Golden who kind of stuck last year when we made him the number one pick? We're just hoping he's gonna be a lot better this year. Uh and I just like the Josh Jacobs thing, and I made this pick before the Josh Jacobs things came down. For you that haven't folks haven't heard the uh Packer running back Josh Jacobs, who's got some legal issues, is on the suspended list of the commissioner's office right now, so he can't play for the foreseeable future. Um but also then Micah Parsons out for at least the first month of the season. He's on the pop list. I think this team is just that trade looks better every day, Brian. What's that?
SPEAKER_01That trade looks better every day.
SPEAKER_00You know what, Eric? I I I I can't believe I'm saying this, but it's I'm it you it does. It really does. And I didn't think that it happened. It was a year ago this week, and I thought it was the dumbest trade I've ever heard of. But anyway, yeah, I think Green Bay is going to take a little step back. I think they were a little fools goldish last year. Um, and I think that I think, listen, if it was nine and a half like the Bears, I might have skipped or gone a different direction. But I think ten wins is around the pad for this too.
SPEAKER_01There's a couple of picks I have in my final one here, Brian, that I kind of torn. But I want to have a little fun because I want to get you will not pick your team. But I'm a Cetpan so who gives a crap?
SPEAKER_00No, you no. I mean, if any of you guys want the unders in the worst way. You can think about Arch Manning right by now.
SPEAKER_01I I don't like the Ravens number at 11 and a half, Brian. I think they're gonna be under, but I I don't want to pick that because I actually like watching the Ravens play.
SPEAKER_03Yeah.
SPEAKER_01Minnesota is another team I battled with, Brian. Um, eight and a half wins. Who's the quarterback? Uh you know, I mean, again, tough division. Uh you know what I mean?
SPEAKER_00So you're not going with the Jets, or are you taking the Jets?
SPEAKER_01No, I'm gonna take the Jets. I'm just telling you the other teams that I was messing around with a little bit.
SPEAKER_00Yeah, Minnesota could be fun, but the Kyler Murray thing, like you're putting a lot of eggs in the you're putting all your eggs in the Kyler Murray basket and hope that you don't crash and slamming them all into the wall.
SPEAKER_01You know, he's a he's a type. Is he gonna be fixed by their head coach O'Connell? Is he gonna fix them? I mean, I'm not sure, man. I again that's I again I like Kyler Murray. I want to root for the guy, but so I'm gonna take the Jets, Brian. This is crazy for me to do, but you know, you gotta win some games one of these days. So I'm gonna take the Jets over five and a half. Okay. Um again, go take two from Miami, split with the Patriots. Rested, they play Cleveland on their schedule. I looked it up a second ago. Their schedule is not daunting. Out of the gate, it's tricky. They play ten, they do play Tennessee, which is a winnable game. Of course, you know, Robert Salad's gonna come there and beat the Jets just to stick it to the Jets because nothing ever goes in their favor. But I think if they win opening week, Brian, I'll feel really good about that bet. So the Jets over five and a half, because I think just like you, you never want to root against your team. So it'd be a little more interesting to watch a team that traditionally thinks and it's never worth watching. So there you go.
SPEAKER_00Uh listen, uh I hear what you're saying, and I I I couldn't get there with the Jets because they do have some when you look on the paper, they have some talent, they've upgraded some talent. Even after trading sauce and trading Quinn and Williams. But um again, those guys are great players, but it wasn't working with the Jets, so get some and they got some great capital back. I mean they got first round picks next year to move like that they can move up for a quarterback. So um I think they you know it's it it's just the fact that I don't know, you know, I'm just gonna Geno Smith might be shot, and I'm not sure about the head coach. Because I don't know, because I thought about the Jets, because they do have some talent on that roster.
SPEAKER_01Yeah. Uh listen, uh Aaron Glenn's got a listen, Aaron Glenn is coaching for his future. If they have a bad year, he's gonna get fired. They're gonna win four games, Brian is getting fired. So that's why I'm thinking in typical Jet fashion, he'll win six because then he'll keep the job, and the Jets will then go backwards next year.
SPEAKER_00And then you fire him next year. Yeah, that's that's very that that follows the Jets' path. Yeah. That works.
SPEAKER_01All right, those are the over-unders, Brian. You got them all. You want to rattle rattle through them one more time?
SPEAKER_00All right, we're gonna write this down, folks, and I will write it down. We're gonna go revisit these in January. So I'm gonna just do we'll do Eric's then mine. All right, let's keep everything in order. So here's Eric's five. He is taking the Dallas Cowboys. Oh, one nine and a half win total, according to folks in Vegas. Eric is taking the over on the Dallas Cowboys. He's staying positive with the Tampa Bay Buccaneers. Uh, eight and a half over. I'm sorry, the Cowboys are eight and a half over as well. So he's taking two eight and a half over teams right off the bat, taking the over on both of them. But it likes the Tampa Bay Buccaneers, eight and a half over. 49ers, 10.5 over. That's a high number. I agree with Eric, it didn't stand, but he's taking the under. I think that's a sound pick. Buffalo Bills, man. You're right. Got to do it some year, guys. I mean, it's a 10.5 is not a huge number for that team. He's taking the over. And then the always optimistic Jets fans, they're all so optimistic bunch. Eric's being optimistic and taking that very low win total of five and a half, and he's going over. So they're at 11, baby. All right. And your pick up. And finally, the Newland Patriots have a nine, uh, the defending AFC Champs are nine and a half win total. I am taking the under on the on the on the Pats. Their opponents, the Super Bowl champions, are 10.5. I am thinking that they should at least be able to win 11 games, so I'm taking the Seahawks. Titans are six and a half. I'm taking the under. Bears at nine and a half, the over. And the Green Bay Packers, 10.5. I'm taking the under.
SPEAKER_01There you have it. The over-under for the 2026 NFL season. We're going to take a timeout. We come back. We got some uh tug a little major league baseball. Some college football kicks off this weekend, and much more coming up here on the EDBC.

SPEAKER_01All right, Brian, Major League Baseball. Uh, we'll start with your Mets real quick. Uh playing out the string here. They played Houston today. Uh they lose two out of three, so they've lost what? Three straight series now. So after a good little couple of weeks, Juan Soto comes back and they go to their losing wings. How about that?
SPEAKER_00Uh yeah, that's I like I couldn't. I never forgot, I never forecasted Eric to take it in that direction. Lon Soto looked good, they had home run. I really was really surprised. I was really surprised when I read that he was he was back on the lineup. I figured they'd shut him down with the rest of the year.
SPEAKER_01Yeah, when he wants to play and line up.
SPEAKER_00I don't play, man. I don't know. I like listen, the guy's fun to watch. He's an incredible offensive player.
SPEAKER_01Give Houston a little credit, Brian. They're first in the uh bad, a bad uh American League West by uh they're a game over 500. Uh so listen.
SPEAKER_00In a terrible division.
SPEAKER_01They took two out of three from the Yankees, took two out of three from the Mets, four out of six in New York. So Mets dropped to 61 and 76, back to 15 games at 500. The big story of this weekend was the Yankees and Red Sox playing four games. Yankees won on Friday night, one-nothing on a well-pitched game by Cam Schlitzer again against the Red Sox. Um Saturday split uh double header, which you know is par for the course for most of these games. Brian, how many times you see it? What you can put a double header. Today, Brian, I don't know if you thought nothing-nothing in the fifth inning. Say Don Raphaela goes into right center field looks to make a diving catch. The ball is ruled not a catch on the field. They review it for 20 minutes, the major league baseball comes back. It's a not a catch. I think if it was ruled a catch on the field, they would have held it as well. Uh, I've seen a million different angles. I don't know how much you paid attention to it. Of course, if you're a Red Sox fan, you're thinking you got hosed. If you're a Yankee fan, you're like, oh well, tough for you. But did you see the play I'm referring?
SPEAKER_00I did, and I saw I couple people I saw uh Bill Simmons tweeting about how it ruined the whole game. I'm like, this guy's the least self-absorbed and the least self-aware person on the planet. Bill, you lost 15 to Will. You let Will Warren look like Whitey Ford. Shut who cares? I mean, if it was a one-one game, you end up losing two to one. I'll listen to the bitch fest, but give me a break. You couldn't touch Will Freaking Warren. Yankees fans don't want to watch Will Warren pitch. Couldn't touch him. It's funny. What did they go? 15 runs? I stopped paying attention at 15. 16 to 1 was a fight. All right, there you go.
SPEAKER_01How about Will Warren, Brian? You mentioned him. He's made 26 starts this year. Doesn't miss a start, didn't miss one last year either. No, that's fine. 21 of his 26 starts this season, three runs or left.
SPEAKER_00Hey man, I'm surprised. You know what that tells me? Future met.
SPEAKER_01Yeah, right.
SPEAKER_00He'll be used to it. Perfect.
SPEAKER_01Oh my God. Anyway, so the Yankees take three or four. Uh, listen, like you said, a lot of drama. Yeah, Dave Portnoy calling for an investigation. Uh, why the ball wasn't catch, yeah. Yuji said, listen, it does change the game, obviously, but the Yankees ended up scoring a bunch of runs late. They got to scored nine runs in the seventh inning, I guess it was.
SPEAKER_03Yeah.
SPEAKER_01Or eighth inning. Uh Sox put a position player in. Uh, I know we have another segment, but someone someone mentioned this, Brian, the other day, and be we'll we'll we'll talk about it for a second here, and I'm curious your thoughts. You've seen some changes in the rules over the years in Major League Baseball, the Manford rule, the sevening doubleheaders that went away. Someone floated the idea, and I made me think about it. Oh, no way. I'm curious your thoughts. Wave the white flag. Game like today, Red Sox are losing 12 to 1. They got to bring in a position player in the eighth inning. You want to give the team the ability to say, you know what? We're done. You win. See you later.
SPEAKER_00Nah, I don't like it. I don't either.
SPEAKER_01I don't like it at all.
SPEAKER_00Because here's the other thing, too. And you know, baseball, you know, is more of a I mean, listen, there's you know with baseball and baseball players. If a guy's got a hitting streak, got a 10-game hitting streak going, or he's got a chance to get, you know, four RBIs or hit for the cycle, that's just just right there. It doesn't matter if it's 20 to nothing, just right there, they're not gonna stop it. You know, you know, I know I know it. And I don't really like that. That's I don't even like I mean, that's just like a little league mostly rule. It's Major League Baseball.
unknownYeah.
SPEAKER_00You want to save a bullpen arm, that's fine. But we're not letting you quit because you guys suck today.
SPEAKER_01And you're leaving out the biggest part, Brian.
SPEAKER_00What? The T oh the the Well, I was gonna say the customers, but they don't give a shit. I mean, baseball doesn't give a shit crap about the customers.
SPEAKER_01No, not even them.
unknownWhat?
SPEAKER_01Gambling.
SPEAKER_00Oh, good point. Yeah, yeah. You're right. Great point. Bad miss by me.
SPEAKER_01You wave the white flag in the eighth inning, you're down 14 to 1 and the basic reloaded and one out. Yeah. And you've got some gambler who's, you know, betting something, whatever. You gotta take the game off the board. So they're never gonna do that because they want the gambling.
SPEAKER_00Well, you'd be thinking like is somebody in the organization, like uh, you know, yeah, you can't do it. You're right. You can't. There'd be too much chicanery behind that.
SPEAKER_01A couple other things real quick before we take another break. Uh, college football, Brian. I did watch about maybe seven or eight plays of the North Carolina game yesterday just because I was curious. I was home. That was the only reason. That was the only college football I watched to start. Was literally maybe six or I think week zero is stupid, Brian. I mean stupid. The NFL doing the things they're doing now Wednesday, Thursday, Friday. I'd be curious to see how many people watched. I mean, on Channel 8 last night, we had uh uh Howard playing somebody I was off last night. But the week zero thing, I I just Alabama AM, by the way. Yeah, that's who it was.
SPEAKER_00I John Stallworth's out alma moder for UBS Two buffs.
SPEAKER_01I I don't know what college football is doing. I mean, listen, we so did they have enough to worry about right now with the players, etc., that's going on.
SPEAKER_00So full d in fairness though, in my opinion, the fact that they last night, because there wasn't much going on, it was like there's three games all weekend, an ABC, where they instead of putting on like a who I don't even know what shit, like who wants to be a million around, you put you know, go two HB uh uh what's up, HBCU schools that never get on national television. So I thought it was really cool that they did that.
SPEAKER_01No, you're right.
SPEAKER_00There was uh I didn't watch any of the game, but I love the idea of it.
SPEAKER_01Instead of putting on Virginia NC State or you know, you could have played Florida State, you know, New Mexico State, Memphis UNLV. Do you care about any of those games? No. No question.
SPEAKER_00No, unless you're you've got to be a real die-hard gambler to give it any of that stuff. And uh the only thing I'll say, and I wanted your opinion on this, Eric, um, real quick. And I wouldn't have brought it up when you brought up the Node A TCU North Carolina game. Apparently there is an issue with the TCU. This is a journalistic question. You may have seen this story, I don't forget. Apparently there was a fight in the TCU locker room about a week or so ago. One of the players, I guess, is uh really hurt uh injured another one of the players. Uh and Nick Harris, who's a beatwriter uh uh for the Dallas uh time uh for the Fort Fort Star Telegram that tweeted out there there uh the TCU, because the uh Fort Worth Star Telegram's beatwriter wrote the story at the last minute before he got on the plane to Dublin, they pulled his credentials out. And I don't you tell me, was he we because we just talked about the Ed Oliver situation in Buffalo, and I don't think it's not as severe as because that was a horrible tragedy. But did the did the the beat writer for the Times tell for the Star Telegram, can you get that name right? Okay, was he in I mean, I think the the the field was this is ridiculous by TCU. Was he in error here? Should he have sound on the story? I mean, are they right to be pissed or are they being really thin skinned?
SPEAKER_01I again without I I did see the headline from it. Uh uh my initial reaction is thin skin, but how did he find out about it? Was he in a place he both didn't belong and he happened to stumble, saw that did he see it with his own eyes? Secondhand information, and how did he find out about it? Uh I was trying to think of something in analogy in my own career where I've sat.
SPEAKER_00I mean, I'm well that's why I wanted to bring it up, yeah.
SPEAKER_01Yeah, I mean, I I and so I'll tell you again to bring it back to Yale. Uh Tony Reno let me put a microphone on him at practice. It had to be about six years ago, maybe. I could look it up. Put a microphone on him. His star, one of his star receivers is running a pattern down the right side of the field, and he catches the ball and collapses on the field in writhing pain. Tony Reno goes running over to him and says, What's wrong? What's wrong? He says, My knee goes, my knee, I blew up my knee, I blew up my knee. And Tony said, I know I got an ear. I'm listening with headphones on. Tony's got a mic on, and the kid is screaming in agony. And Tony says, Okay, it's okay. You put the kid on the card, take him off, and Tony says to the trainer, How bad is it? And he says he's done it. And Tony Second player turns to me and gives me the hey, you know, cut the rope cut. In other words, don't don't show this. So that was one of those cases where I was there and I could have been a jerk about it and said, but again, it was he was doing me a favor, it was a privilege to let him wear a microphone during a practice. So by me tweeting out, hey, don't feel card, done for the year. Uh I didn't do it. I didn't mention it. I waited until the following week on like Tuesday and put it out there. Like or no, before the game, I tweeted out that he wouldn't be playing in the game, doing a movie to paint a classic. But again, if y'all football, it's not Notre Dame, it's not Miami.
SPEAKER_00It's not Notre Dame, but you know, that's gonna come out anyway. And you know, uh I I think not that you give a damn what you know anybody cares about I think. I think that's the right call. Uh I also think there are absolutely people who have been like, hey, I gotta spoop, you know, Notre Dame's not Notre Dame's Yale's got one of their wide receivers out for the year. But what what does a game? Okay, you go first. So what? Yellow's that's that information's gonna be known, so yeah. Yeah, no, I get it.
SPEAKER_01Do we need to take another break, Brian? We got three. No, we're good.
SPEAKER_00We're good.
SPEAKER_01All right, well, let's say I'm gonna give it to you now for a little, little, quick little three-minute pop culture segment that I know you're fond of, and so am I. So our listeners, but uh, you got some birthdays here on the list. We've got a couple of them. Let's go through them real quick.
SPEAKER_00Oh, yeah, yeah, yeah. Okay. Uh I'll get forward to four quick ones. Uh all right, Cameron Diaz. Uh, you love that movie? She's the one. She's got a whole bunch of stuff back in the, you know, probably her 90s or the 90s, 80s in the 90s and 2000s. So I'm giving you a little clue here. Is she 50, 52, or 54?
SPEAKER_01I'm gonna say 54.
SPEAKER_00I know you like the oceans movie, Elliot Gould, been in the you know, star-off in Oceans 11. What's that? Oh, you are correct. All right, I was going. I'm so I'm so cognizant of being on time today, though, and not listening to letting you. Two and a half minutes, Brian. Two and a half, Elliot Gould, great actor. Oceans 11. Play Trapper John in the match movie. Uh is he so that again that's that's that's cool right there because that movie's like 55 years old. Is Elliot Gould 85? 88 or 95?
SPEAKER_02I want to say 85.
SPEAKER_00Uh, it's on the playmaker with the number 88. He's like, 88. Good for him.
SPEAKER_02Yeah.
SPEAKER_00All right, Richard Gere. Uh yeah, great actor. I some of his movies uh great actor, though. I'm not, you know. All right, uh shut up, Brian. Is Richard Gere turning 75, 77, and 81?
SPEAKER_0177.
SPEAKER_00Uh, correct. And last, uh, I did throw one sports guy in there, and one of my favorite players. I'm sorry, I'm a sports fan. The chief, Robert Parrish, played forever. Yep. Such an underrated player, a hall of famer and well-deserving. Is he 68, 70, or 73? 73. He is 73. All right. You're at a four there, Brian. Nice job. You're at a four. And I did see today, but I didn't put it on. I know Jalen Brunson, your new, the new, the newest biggest hero in New York, has a birthday today, too. So how old is Jalen? I believe he's 28. And I also learned that he was born in New Brunswick, New Jersey, which is where I was born. So we have that in common. We're all and we both otherwise we have nothing in common whatsoever.
SPEAKER_01So real quick, one more for you. Annette Benning was an old Sabrik last night at the Kate. She was being Catherine Hepper Spirit Award. Uh, friend Ann Nyberg is there, posted some great photos of her today. How would you think Annette Benning is, Brian? I I I did not know this, and someone asked me, and I had no idea. In the final minute we have here, right now, one minute to go. What do you think?
SPEAKER_00Uh I'm trying to think of what I'm gonna take a minute, like 30 seconds. I'm trying to think of what her heyday was, like mid-90s, right?
SPEAKER_02So 65, 68, or 74. I gotta say she's 68. You got it. 68 years old. Yeah. Warren Beatty, Warren Beatty. Warren Beatty, right.
SPEAKER_00He's he's no spring chicken either.
SPEAKER_01No, he isn't. All right, that'll do it for this edition of the EDBC Podcast. I'm Eric Keith Brian. Till next time, Brian. Say goodbye.
SPEAKER_00See ya.
