Earth Day/Walk for Peace

I describe my thoughts about attending this year's Walk for Peace in Vancouver.

A few hours ago today, I attended the Walk for Peace here in Vancouver; it was a celebration of Earth Day (which was 
yesterday) as well as a protest against the government and its partners in crime--read:big business--for what these 
entities are doing and not doing to destroy the environment and slow down climate change. Some student groups at 
universities whose representatives spoke at today's rally at Vancouver's Grandview Park scored some small victories 
recently, but we have a lot more work to do to hold the government's and big business's feet to the proverbial fire 
to get them to act on ceasing to extract resources such as coal and oil from the ground and to slow down, if not stop, 
climate change. As well, there was mention of how war contributes to environmental devastation, among other things, 
and at least one presenter I remember called the government and big business, as well as the military-industrial complex,
out for that as well.

There are entities who tell us to limit, if not stop, our use of single-use items such as bags and straws, and use bags, 
straws, and other items we can reuse; this is good and all, but, as far as I'm concerned, Earth Day is, and should be, 
about holding the system accountable as well.
