PART 3 OF “BEING RICH” SERIES QUESTION: WHY DID GOD MAKE YOU RICH? You will be made rich in every way so that you can be generous on every occasion, and through us your generosity will result in thanksgiving to God. (2 Corinthians 9:11, NIV 1984) Command [those who are rich] to do good, to be rich in good deeds, and to be generous and willing to share. (1 Tim. 6:17-18, NIV) God has blessed me with more than I need. I’m rich. I will not trust in riches, but in him who richly provides. Because I have more, I will GIVE more. 1. Truly rich people give STRATEGICALLY. Each of you should give what you have decided in your heart to give, not reluctantly or under compulsion, for God loves a cheerful giver. (2 Cor. 9:7) Bring the whole tithe into the storehouse, that there may be food in my house. (Malachi 3:10a) • Tithing teaches me to put God FIRST. The purpose of tithing is to teach you always to put God first in your lives. (Deut. 14:23, TLB) • Tithing increases my FAITH in God. Test me in this,” says the Lord Almighty, “and see if I will not throw open the floodgates of heaven and pour out so much blessing that there will not be room enough to store it. (Malachi 3:10b); Since you excel in so many ways—in your faith, your gifted speakers, your knowledge, your enthusiasm, and your love from us—I want you to excel also in this gracious act of giving. (2 Cor. 8:7, NLT) 2. Truly rich people give EXTRAVAGANTLY. As Jesus looked up, he saw the rich putting their gifts into the temple treasury. 2 He also saw a poor widow put in two very small copper coins. 3 “Truly I tell you,” he said, “this poor widow has put in more than all the others. (Luke 21:1-3)
