Paul gives a revolutionary view of Christian marriage.
1. Christians are to submit to one another (Ephesians 5:21).
A. Wives are to submit to their husbands (Ephesians 5:22, 24).
*Submit means to be supportive of, to respect their husbands (Ephesians 5:33).
B. Husbands are to be the head of their wives (Ephesians 5:23).
To set the right kinds of examples for their wives;
To make sacrifices for their wives.
C. Husbands are to love their wives with agape love
(Ephesians 5:25, 28, 33).
Why? Because Christ loves the Church that way (Ephesians 5:25, 29).
Paul may be trying to get back to equality
between husbands and wives (Genesis 1 and 2)
before sin entered the world (Genesis 3).
Husbands and wives are to submit to each other, and both submit to Christ.
Who is in charge in the marriage? Christ is.
