Key Verse: “You are my Son, whom I love; with you I am well pleased” (Mark 1:11, NIV). 1. Jesus PREPARED for his assignment. He had a TEACHABLE spirit. (v. 9) 2. Jesus humbled himself and submitted to WATER BAPTISM. (vv. 9-10) 3. Jesus had an audience of ONE. (v. 11) 4. Jesus endured the badlands (see below). He relied on God’s PRESENCE and on God’s WORD. (vv. 12-13) The term “badlands” comes from Eugene Peterson in The Pastor, Harper Collins: New York, 2011, pp. 203-208.
