Rev. Dr. Robert Lee

Part 5 of Series: “Becoming a Transformational Church” Acts 15:1-35 Big Idea: Transformational churches uphold the core CONVICTIONS of the gospel while showing the FRUIT of the Spirit. The decision from the Jerusalem Council in Acts 15: 1. PRESERVED the gospel. 2. ESTABLISHED a pattern of resolving divisive doctrinal issues among believers. Transformational Churches discern the difference between convictions, commitments, and preferences: • CONVICTIONS are the core of what we believe. • COMMITMENTS are derived from convictions and represent commitments to positions, perspectives, and practices. They are important for fellowship and effectiveness. • PREFERENCES are the non-essentials such as changing tastes, cultural factors, generational experiences, and traditions. Today’s Takeaway: 1. Discern doctrinal convictions and stop arguing over lesser issues. 2. Do not treat commitments and preferences as convictions. 3. Remember that the world is watching.
