Kingdom work is so large in scope that no individual Christian, family, Church or organization can do it alone. More hands are required from time to time to meet up with the task of advancing the Kingdom of God.
In the above passage, Jesus appointed and commissioned additional 72 disciples. They were to go "... ahead of him to every town and place where he was to go."
A. Definitions.
· Appointed is same as chosen or selected.
· Commissioned has to do with "authorization or command to act in a prescribed manner or to perform prescribed acts." It could also mean "authority to act for, in behalf, or in place of another."
B. Appointed and Sent: 7 Ideas to Share.
1. The need to be grateful to God for being among those appointed and sent - V.1 cf. Jn. 15:16; 20: 21; Judges 1:4-7.
It is a unique privilege to be appointed by God to kingdom service.
Of the thousands following Jesus all over the place, just 72 were selected for this special mission.
What a privilege!
What a privilege we have to be involved in the Great Commission!
What a privilege that God is asking you to go on Church Planting next weekend!
It is a special privilege that you should be grateful for.
That your hands and legs are not chipped.
That you are in good health and strong.
I hope you will not give untenable excuses.
2. The need to be a responsible and reliable worker in God's house - V.2a.
It is sad that the number of people involved in God's work in every local church is often few.
A large majority are mere consumers of God's grace, chair warmers, SMO Christians.
This is a major reason why God's work has not spread at the rate it should - workers are few! This is sad.
