When Jesus says, “The harvest is plentiful but the workers are few; pray therefore that God would send workers into his harvest,” he is offering one of the few explicit instructions on prayer in the Gospels. Here, the prayer is for good, benevolent, Jesus-following people who will care for those in their immediate context—and trust that the larger picture ultimately belongs to God.
