00:06:47.680 --> 00:06:51.040 Don't consume this upon yourself and your agenda. 00:06:51.199 --> 00:06:53.279 And so there's four or five words I want to point to. 00:06:53.360 --> 00:06:55.199 And the first one is just betrayal. 00:06:55.519 --> 00:06:56.079 Betrayal. 00:06:56.160 --> 00:06:57.600 It starts off in verse 23. 00:06:57.839 --> 00:07:00.319 On the night that Jesus was betrayed. 00:07:00.480 --> 00:07:04.720 Some of you in this room have been betrayed, and some of you in this room have been the betrayor. 00:07:05.120 --> 00:07:06.800 You betrayed other people. 00:07:07.199 --> 00:07:09.680 Sometimes life betrays you. 00:07:09.920 --> 00:07:12.480 Sometimes jobs betray you. 00:07:12.639 --> 00:07:18.160 You work there for 27 years and you got like four more years and you've topped off your retirement and you feel good. 00:07:18.240 --> 00:07:22.160 And you go in on a Monday and they say, Hey, John, could I see you in the office? 00:07:22.639 --> 00:07:23.920 It's betrayal. 00:07:24.079 --> 00:07:28.079 So we are going, we live in a world that is fallen, is contaminated by sin. 00:07:28.160 --> 00:07:31.040 And in this world, we are going to experience betrayal. 00:07:31.199 --> 00:07:33.120 Sometimes our children betray us. 00:07:33.439 --> 00:07:35.680 Some of our children, it feels like betrayal. 00:07:35.759 --> 00:07:41.120 They that we raise them and teach them all the right things and they go off and take a wrong turn. 00:07:41.360 --> 00:07:42.800 It's betrayal. 00:07:43.120 --> 00:07:49.199 But here's what I want you to see that on the night Jesus was betrayed, he still had the capacity to do the right thing. 00:07:49.439 --> 00:07:54.399 Just because you've been betrayed doesn't mean you can spend the rest of your life paying everybody else back. 00:07:55.680 --> 00:07:58.480 The gospel makes you capable of so much more than that. 00:07:58.639 --> 00:07:59.519 So there's betrayal. 00:07:59.600 --> 00:08:01.040 And secondly, there's gratitude. 00:08:01.199 --> 00:08:06.000 It says when I was betrayed, he took bread, and when he had given thanks, just stop right there. 00:08:06.160 --> 00:08:10.319 When he had given thanks, Jesus knows full well what is coming. 00:08:10.399 --> 00:08:16.959 He's told his disciples, hey, I the Son of Man must go to Jerusalem and suffer many things as the hand of men and then be crucified. 00:08:17.120 --> 00:08:18.879 And they're like, No, that's never gonna happen. 00:08:19.040 --> 00:08:20.720 He goes, Absolutely it is. 00:08:21.040 --> 00:08:23.360 And yet he could give thanks for it. 00:08:23.519 --> 00:08:28.720 Ask yourself this question What am I not grateful enough right now as I sit in this room?
