look at this idea of a macro and micro lens honing in on the character of Daniel. 00:04:45.839 --> 00:04:50.800 So let's read together Daniel chapter 1, starting in verse 1. 00:04:51.360 --> 00:05:00.399 In the third year of the reign of Joachim, king of Judah, Nebuchadnezzar, king of Babylon, came to Jerusalem and besieged it. 00:05:00.560 --> 00:05:04.639 And the Lord delivered Joachim, king of Judah, into his hand. 00:05:04.959 --> 00:05:13.920 Along with some of the articles from the temple of God, these he carried off to the temple of his God in Babylonia and put in the treasure house of his God. 00:05:14.480 --> 00:05:34.319 Then the king ordered Ashbanaz, chief of his court officials, to bring in some of the Israelites from the royal family and the nobility, young men without any physical defect, handsome, showing aptitude for every kind of learning, well informed, quick to understand, and qualified to serve in the king's palace. 00:05:34.879 --> 00:05:38.399 He was to teach them the language and literature of the Babylonians. 00:05:38.639 --> 00:05:42.959 The king assigned them a daily amount of food and wine from the king's table. 00:05:43.199 --> Judah: Daniel, Hananiah, Meshael, and Azariah. 00:05:56.160 --> 00:05:58.480 The chief official gave them new names. 00:05:58.639 --> 00:06:07.839 To Daniel, the name Belshazzar, to Hananiah, Shadrach, to Meshael, Meshach, to Azariah, Abednego. 00:06:08.959 --> 00:06:13.920 But Daniel resolved not to defile himself with the royal food and wine. 00:06:14.160 --> 00:06:18.800 He asked the chief official for permission not to defile himself this way. 00:06:19.199 --> 00:06:29.040 Now God had caused the official to show favor and sympathy to Daniel, but the official told Daniel, I'm afraid of my Lord, the king, who has assigned your food and drink. 00:06:29.199 --> 00:06:33.920 Why should he see you looking worse than the other young men your age? 00:06:34.160 --> 00:06:36.959 The king would then have my head because of you. 00:06:37.439 --> 00:06:47.920 Daniel then said to the guard, whom the chief official had appointed over Daniel, Hananiah, Meshael, and Azariah, Please test your servants for ten days. 00:06:48.079 --> 00:06:51.199 Give us nothing but vegetables to eat and water to drink. 00:06:51.360 --> 00:06:59.040 Then compare our appearance with that of the 00:07:40.639 --> 00:07:43.279 That's not the only intake, but that's not what this is about. 00:07:43.519 --> 00:07:45.519 Let's take a look at this micro lens. 00:07:45.600 --> 00:07:52.079 Let's really zoom in on Daniel, and I want us to see what was it like for Daniel in his youth. 00:07:52.319 --> 00:07:56.959 Now, at this point in the story, Daniel is about 14 years old. 00:07:57.199 --> 00:08:02.000 He's been separated from family, from his home, even his name. 00:08:02.240 --> 00:08:05.839 It tells us everything was trying to be stripped away from him. 00:08:06.000 --> 00:08:08.879 But in this micro lens, what do we see? 00:08:09.040 --> 00:08:10.560 Well, I think we see a couple of things. 00:08:10.720 --> 00:08:13.920 Number one, we see a respect for authority. 00:08:14.160 --> 00:08:16.160 Look at verse 8 with me. 00:08:16.399 --> 00:08:21.040 It says, But Daniel resolved not to defile himself with the royal food and wine. 00:08:21.120 --> 00:08:25.120 And here it is, and he asked the chief official for permission. 00:08:25.360 --> 00:08:29.279 Now, a lot of people today, they don't ask for permission, they just start showing out. 00:08:29.439 --> 00:08:31.199 I tell you what, you're not gonna tell me what to do. 00:08:31.279 --> 00:08:32.399 I'll be the one to decide. 00:08:32.480 --> 00:08:36.000 I Daniel had lost everything. 00:08:36.159 --> 00:08:40.960 unbeliever, perhaps maybe a taskmaster, or maybe that's the way we ought to be with kids we go to school with, instead of giving in uh in a way that puts a barrier between us, perhaps we ought to be respecting authority a little bit more. 00:09:15.360 --> 00:09:20.639 Whether or not we agree with it, it doesn't change our position, nor our showing respect. 00:09:20.720 --> 00:09:23.519 And that's what Daniel demonstrated to us. 00:09:24.320 --> 00:09:35.200 Now, it might be the teacher at school or the guy in the big white house on Pennsylvania Avenue, or it might not be, but it is a respect for authority. 00:09:35.440 --> 00:09:40.480 It would be real easy for people to lump us as Christians in along with everyone else. 00:09:40.559 --> 00:09:42.320 Oh, see, they just rail in too. 00:09:42.480 --> 00:09:44.559 I mean, even Jesus had some zealot, right? 00:09:44.639 --> 00:09:48.080 Didn't he have somebody that was politically against everyone? 00:09:48.480 --> 00:09:53.759 Yeah, he did, but I promise you, he still insisted on a respect for authority. 00:09:54.399 --> 00:10:01.519 The second thing we see in Daniel at this point in the story, this micro lens, we see a confidence in his belief. 00:10:01.679 --> 00:10:03.919 Look at verses 12 and 13. 00:10:04.159 --> 00:10:06.799 Now, look, Daniel's going out on a limb here, okay? 00:10:06.960 --> 00:10:08.000 And it demonstrates that. 00:10:08.159 --> 00:10:11.279 He says, Please test your servants for 10 days. 00:10:11.519 --> 00:10:14.480 Give us nothing but vegetables to eat and water to drink. 00:10:14.639 --> 00:10:15.519 I mean, 10 days. 00:10:15.679 --> 00:10:16.960 That's not a lot of time, okay? 00:10:17.120 --> 00:10:19.519 Keto, I think, says, take 30 before it kicks in. 00:10:19.679 --> 00:10:21.120 I mean, this is not a lot of time. 00:10:21.200 --> 00:10:29.919 And he says, then compare our appearance with that of the young men who eat the royal food and treat your servants in accordance with what you see. 00:10:30.240 --> 00:10:32.080 He had confidence in his belief. 00:10:32.240 --> 00:10:35.120 Now, this is what was probably going to happen. 00:10:35.440 --> 00:10:38.799 Daniel and his friends eat the vegetables, drink the water. 00:10:38.960 --> 00:10:43.519 If they lose any weight, any muscle mass, anything like that, they're going to be up a real creek. 00:10:43.840 --> 00:10:51.200 Because anything Daniel asked for in the future, likely this guard is going to go, you mean like what happened last time? 00:10:51.840 --> 00:10:54.639 Daniel had confidence in his belief. 00:10:55.440 --> 00:11:00.080 I think we ought to ask ourselves, what would have given Daniel that kind of confidence? 00:11:00.399 --> 00:11:05.840 Now, I believe what gave Daniel that kind of confidence was experience. 00:11:06.399 --> 00:11:07.919 Certainly, I believe in Revelation. 00:11:08.000 --> 00:11:09.600 We're going to talk a little bit about that in a minute. 00:11:09.759 --> 00:11:20.960 I think Daniel was being prompted by God and his spirit, yes, but I also believe that experience told him, I think Daniel, even in his youth, was experiencing intimacy with God. 00:11:21.440 --> 00:11:22.159 He knew. 00:11:22.480 --> 00:11:28.720 It's what I call kind of that tightness in your chest that you get when that spirit gets on you and you're like, oh, I'm supposed to do something. 00:11:28.960 --> 00:11:32.000 I think Daniel had already experienced that for a while now. 00:11:32.399 --> 00:11:37.600 And likely he had said yes to some and no to some, and he knew the difference in those. 00:11:37.759 --> 00:11:44.559 And I think at this point, he probably experienced that little tightness and said, Oh, I don't know if I can eat and drink the things look at, okay, so this was youth, but what happens when Daniel was in charge? 00:12:15.120 --> 00:12:20.080 So let's look at that micro lens, and I want you to flip a few pages over for me. 00:12:20.320 --> 00:12:22.639 Let's take a look at Daniel chapter six. 00:12:22.720 --> 00:12:27.840 Now I'm going to read verses one through four to kind of set it, and then we're going to fast forward to verse 12, okay? 00:12:27.919 --> 00:12:29.679 So stay with me as we as we do that. 00:12:29.840 --> 00:12:33.279 So this is Daniel chapter 6, starting in verse 1. 00:12:33.679 --> 00:12:43.840 It pleased Darius to appoint 120 satraps to rule throughout the kingdom with three administrators over them, one of whom was Daniel. 00:12:44.080 --> 00:12:48.960 The satraps were made accountable to them so that the king might not suffer loss. 00:12:49.200 --> 00:13:01.519 Now Daniel so distinguished himself among the administrators and the satraps by his exemption, excuse me, exceptional qualities, that the king planned to set him over the whole kingdom. 00:13:01.840 --> 00:13:11.200 At this, the administrators and satraps tried to find grounds for charges against Daniel and his conduct of government affairs, but they were unable to do so. 00:13:11.440 --> 00:13:18.639 They could find no corruption in him because he was trustworthy, and neither corrupt nor negligent. we are in verse 12. 00:13:38.559 --> 00:13:41.919 So they went to the king and spoke to him about his royal decree. 00:13:42.080 --> 00:13:51.200 Did you not publish a decree that during the next thirty days anyone who prays to any God or man except to you, O king, would be thrown into the lion's den? 00:13:51.600 --> 00:13:53.279 You can hear the setup, right? 00:13:53.440 --> 00:13:54.879 they said to the king, Daniel, who's one of the exiles from Judah, pays no attention to you, O king, or to the decree you put in writing. 00:14:12.799 --> 00:14:15.360 He still prays three times a the longest prayers in the Old Testament. 00:28:06.079 --> 00:28:13.920 Daniel was constantly in prayer, and it didn't take 70 or 90 years of captivity for Daniel to finally come to his senses. Now, um, not to get off on a rant here, but when I was in school, and this has been a while, we had two genders. 00:30:39.039 --> 00:30:49.680 Now there is, and I think at latest count, uh, it's estimated that there are 105 gender recognitions out there. 00:30:51.680 --> 00:30:52.799 What's my point? 00:30:53.519 --> 00:30:58.640 My point is we should not waver from what we know to be true.
