00:04:21.680 --> 00:04:28.480 Because the gospels, Matthew, Mark, Luke, and John are four different men that walked with Jesus, they were around Jesus, they were eyewitnesses to everything they saw. 00:04:28.639 --> 00:04:30.959 They didn't make it up and just, oh, this would sound good. 00:04:31.040 --> 00:04:32.240 Hey, put this in here. 00:04:32.319 --> 00:04:34.959 Uh, and so they all write from a different perspective. 00:04:35.120 --> 00:04:38.240 John writes to Jewish people who don't believe in Jesus. 00:04:38.399 --> 00:04:43.759 They're religious, but they don't have a relationship with God, which, by the way, is some of you in this room. 00:04:46.000 --> 00:04:48.560 Y'all are like, oh, what are you talking about, Willis? 00:05:04.160 --> 00:05:07.120 And in this last section here, he really focuses on Peter. 00:05:07.199 --> 00:05:07.519 Why? 00:05:07.600 --> 00:05:09.439 Because after the gospels is the book of Acts. 00:05:09.519 --> 00:05:15.279 The book of Acts tells about the birth of the church, the rise, and the historic consequential spread of Christianity. 00:05:15.360 --> 00:05:21.519 And the central person to that in Acts chapter 2, versus Acts chapter 12, is a man named Peter. 00:05:22.160 --> 00:05:25.199 And so how does he go from being a guy that's like, I don't know him? 00:05:25.360 --> 00:05:26.240 Shut up, girl. 00:05:26.319 --> 00:05:33.279 I have no idea who Jesus is, to being a man who preaches a sermon in Acts chapter 2, and 3,000 people become Christians. 00:05:34.639 --> 00:05:34.959 Yes. 00:05:35.120 --> 00:05:36.480 That's what we'll talk about today. 00:05:36.639 --> 00:05:44.879 So when I say the established things, on the way out, the gospel of John is so consequential, he establishes three realities on the way out the door. 00:05:45.120 --> 00:05:47.439 John chapter 21, I'll start reading verse 15. 00:05:47.600 --> 00:05:52.720 When they had finished breakfast, Jesus said to Simon, Peter, Simon, son of John, do you love me more than these? 00:05:52.959 --> 00:05:55.839 He said to him, Yes, Lord, you know that I love you. 00:05:56.000 --> 00:05:57.600 He said to him, Feed my lambs. 00:05:57.759 --> 00:06:00.959 He said to him a second time, Simon, son of John, do you love me? 00:06:01.120 --> 00:06:03.680 He said to him, Yes, Lord, you know that I love you. 00:06:03.920 --> 00:06:05.680 He said to him, Tend my sheep. 00:06:05.839 --> 00:06:08.959 He said to him the third time, Simon, son of John, do you love me? 00:06:56.399 --> 00:06:59.519 When Peter saw him, he said to Jesus, Lord, what about this man? 00:06:59.680 --> 00:07:06.240 Jesus said to him, No Zero Z, it is if it's my will that he remain until I come, what is that to you? 00:07:06.480 --> 00:07:07.839 You follow me. 00:07:08.079 --> 00:07:12.800 So the saying spread uh abroad among the brothers that this disciple was not to die. 00:07:12.879 --> 00:07:20.240 Yet Jesus did not say to him that he was not to die, but if it is my will that he remain until I come, what is that to you? 00:07:20.480 --> 00:07:27.040 This is the disciple who is bearing witness about these things and who has written these things that and we know that his testimony is true. 00:07:27.199 --> 00:07:29.920 Now there are also many other things that Jesus did. 00:07:30.079 --> 00:07:31.439 Were every one of them to be written? 00:07:31.600 --> 00:07:36.160 I suppose that the world itself could not contain the books that would be written. 00:07:36.399 --> 00:07:42.319 And so there's three things on the way out the door in this kind of some of this epilogue to the Gospel of John that get established. 00:07:42.399 --> 00:07:45.439 The first one is this that God uses people who have blown it. 00:07:50.800 --> 00:07:56.480 Like my wife said to me one time, oh, I had a wreck in the parking lot, which means her door dinged the car next to her. 00:07:56.639 --> 00:07:57.839 That ain't a wreck, okay? 00:07:58.000 --> 00:07:59.839 That's an excuse to go park somewhere else. 00:08:00.000 --> 00:08:00.879 But I digress. 00:08:00.959 --> 00:08:05.600 Uh when I say you've blown it, I don't mean, well, I didn't read my Bible every day this week. 00:08:05.680 --> 00:08:07.600 I mean, I dinged the door next to me. 00:08:07.680 --> 00:08:11.519 I mean I put it in the ditch so bad, I think this thing is total. 00:08:11.600 --> 00:08:13.600 We should just walk away from it and burn it to the ground. 00:08:13.759 --> 00:08:16.560 So let me ask you this question so I can see who I'm talking to today. 00:08:16.720 --> 00:08:20.319 If you've really blown it before in your life spiritually, say amen. 00:08:21.199 --> 00:08:23.439 Okay, so I'm talking to people that understand this. 00:08:23.519 --> 00:08:23.839 All right. 00:08:23.920 --> 00:08:25.519 So God uses people that have blown it. 00:08:25.759 --> 00:08:26.399 Why do I say that? 00:08:26.560 --> 00:08:30.079 Because I want to establish two things I want you to understand about blowing it. 00:08:30.160 --> 00:08:32.320 Number one, permission versus authority. 00:08:32.639 --> 00:08:33.919 Permission versus authority. 00:08:34.080 --> 00:08:41.279 See, when we blow it, we give ourselves permission by staying secretive, becoming more devious, more addicted, more deceptive, more permissive. 00:08:41.440 --> 00:08:45.120 We get a burner phone, we change our cell phone, we hide our phone or whatever. 00:08:45.279 --> 00:08:53.519 And what you when you do all that, here's what you're doing: you're building an idol to your appetites instead of an altar to your responsibility. 00:08:53.759 --> 00:08:54.720 Let me say that again. 00:08:54.879 --> 00:08:56.639 You build an idol to your appetites. 00:08:56.720 --> 00:09:02.320 You're kind of like, well, you know, I prayed for God to take this away and God didn't take it away, so it must be God's will. 00:09:02.480 --> 00:09:04.799 That's just you being ruled by your appetites. 00:09:04.960 --> 00:09:11.919 Men, the difference in men and boys is boys are ruled by their appetites, men are ruled by their understanding. 00:09:12.320 --> 00:09:13.519 Big difference in those two. 00:09:13.600 --> 00:09:17.360 I'm not saying as a man you won't have appetites, but they don't have power over you. 00:09:17.600 --> 00:09:20.159 Hear me now, you have dominion over them. 00:09:20.399 --> 00:09:27.679 Because as Psalm 16 says, God's crowned you with glory and honor and giving you dominion over everything that He's created. 00:09:27.840 --> 00:09:28.879 That means yourself. 00:09:29.039 --> 00:09:33.360 You're never at the mercy of just what you feel and things that kind of go through your head, okay? 00:11:49.519 --> 00:11:51.440 Uh I will lay down my life for you. 00:11:51.600 --> 00:11:54.960 And Jesus answered, Will you lay down your life for me? 00:11:55.360 --> 00:12:00.559 Truly, truly, I say to you, the rooster will not crow till you have denied me three times. 00:12:00.799 --> 00:12:03.600 Now, when I say now versus afterwards, look at right there. 00:12:03.759 --> 00:12:04.639 You said, Where do you get that?
