are written in heaven. 00:03:22.479 --> 00:03:32.400 When we talk about ministry that matters, there's basically three things that Jesus kind of says, hey, it involves this, it involves evangelism, it involves the kingdom, and it involves joy. 00:03:32.560 --> 00:03:35.520 I want to talk to you briefly about those three things this morning. 00:03:35.680 --> 00:03:37.120 Number one, evangelism. 00:03:37.199 --> 00:03:39.120 What do we mean when we say evangelism? 00:03:39.280 --> 00:03:44.479 For us here at Grand Parkway, evangelism is the works of Jesus and the words of Jesus. 00:03:44.639 --> 00:04:01.439 If all we do is tell people about Jesus, but we don't demonstrate, we don't do the things that Jesus would do, then our evangelism and our share in the gospel or our our whatever you call it, uh, it has no meaning in people's lives because they want to see that this has been affected. 00:04:01.599 --> 00:04:09.520 This has kind of somehow changed who we are and how we operate, how we spend money, how we spend our spare time and what we do. 00:04:09.680 --> 00:04:13.759 There's three things I don't want you to miss that I think kind of you kind of hang flesh on. 00:04:14.000 --> feel good, that don't feel stimulating, that aren't always kind of, uh, that doesn't mean that God's not there. 00:05:43.839 --> 00:05:48.720 Matter of fact, when I first became, well, I was a Christian, the first four or five years I was a Christian. 00:05:48.879 --> 00:05:52.319 I was trying to find a church that I thought just takes the Bible seriously. 00:05:52.480 --> 00:06:14.240 And it was so hard because the church growth thing had just started and everyone was just kind of going, hey, we're gonna, and I remember going to a church and and and the doors opened up back here, and like ten people, five from that side and five from that side, and they all had on black slacks and black skirts and jewel tone tops and microphones, and they say, Oh, and they had hand motions. read, a man named Richard Stearns, by the way, wrote a book called The Hole in Our Gospel that everyone should read. 00:07:11.600 --> 00:07:12.480 Great book. 00:07:12.720 --> 00:07:18.480 But I read it, well, I wasn't reading this book, I was reading this article that he had written, and they were interviewing him. 00:07:18.560 --> 00:07:25.439 And by the way, Richard Stearns, he was a CEO of Linux China, and he left that to become the president of World Vision. 00:07:25.839 --> 00:07:29.040 And so they were asking him about the church, and I thought he had a great quote. 00:07:29.120 --> 00:07:29.839 I want to share it with you. 00:07:29.920 --> 00:07:35.839 He said the predicament of the American church is that we live in a kind of magic kingdom, like going to Disneyland. 00:07:35.920 --> 00:07:40.319 You buy your ticket, and once you're inside the gates, everything you experience is controlled. 00:07:40.480 --> 00:07:45.680 The rides, the food, the shows are all there to entertain and amuse you. 00:07:45.920 --> 00:07:48.800 All you have to do is be there and observe. 00:07:49.040 --> 00:07:52.319 As Christians, we too are tempted to see our world that way. 00:07:52.560 --> 00:07:58.639 We start thinking that our job is to invite a few fortunate others into the theme park away from the troubles outside. 00:07:58.800 --> 00:08:07.839 But our job isn't to increase the attendance at Disneyland, it is to tear down the walls and transform the world outside. 00:08:08.560 --> 00:08:17.439 And Jesus so believed that he looked at these 72 and said, I'm sending you out because I do not believe your mission is to increase the attendance at Disneyland. 00:08:17.680 --> 00:08:20.480 I'm sending you out as lambs among wolves. 00:08:20.560 -->
