John 8:12-30 1. You don’t walk in darkness “In the beginning was the Word, and the Word was with God, and the Word was God. He was in the beginning with God. All things were made through him, and without him was not any thing made that was made. In him was life, and the life was the light of men. The light shines in the darkness, and the darkness has not overcome it.” -John 1:1-5 “This is the message we have heard from him and proclaim to you, that God is light and in him is no darkness at all. If we say we have fellowship with him while we walk in darkness, we lie and do not practice the truth. But if we walk in the light, as he is in the light, we have fellowship with one another, and the blood fo Jesus his Son cleanses us from all sin.” - I John 1:5-7 2. You believe all the truths about Jesus, v. 21-28 Lenses through which we look at Jesus... a) ourselves b) our intellect c) our experiences d) our preferences e) our culture 3. You live with a sense of God’s presence, v. 29 “Where shall I go from your Spirit? Or where shall I flee from your presence? If I ascend to heaven, you are there! If I make my bed in Sheol, you are there! If I take the wings of the morning and dwell in the uttermost parts of the sea, even there your hand shall lead me, and your right hand shall hold me. If I say, “Surely the darkness shall cover me, and the light about me be night,” even the darkness is not dark to you; the night is bright as the day, for darkness is as light with you.” -Psalm 139:7-12 4. You do what is pleasing to God, v. 29 “His delight is not in the strength of the horse, nor his pleasure in the legs of a man, but the Lord takes pleasure in those who fear him, in those who hope in his steadfast love.” -Psalm 147:10-11 “Finally, then, brothers, we ask and urge you in the Lord Jesus, that as you received from us how you ought to walk and to please God, just as you are doing, that you do so more and more.” -I Thessalonians 4:1 Questions for reflection... Is there any part of your life where you are walking in darkness? What do you find hard to believe about Jesus? Does the thought of God being everywhere bring you comfort or concern? How often do you think, “Is this pleasing to God?”
