00:02:50.000 --> 00:02:53.120 But before we read the text, let me say this by way of background. 00:02:53.280 --> 00:02:59.439 The church has been established, and this is kind of the first wave of opposition uh to this movement known as Christianity. 00:02:59.599 --> 00:03:14.000 It leads to these two men, Peter and John, getting arrested, or they get kind of chewed out, they get sternly warned hey, don't talk about Jesus anymore because they're gonna heal, or excuse me, God's going to heal a man who's never walked before, and God's gonna heal him. 00:03:14.159 --> 00:03:15.680 Now, let me just say this, okay? 00:03:15.919 --> 00:03:17.360 The miraculous, look at me. 00:03:17.520 --> 00:03:20.240 The miraculous is just a platform for the gospel. 00:03:20.479 --> 00:03:22.960 The gospel is not a platform for the miraculous. 00:03:23.120 --> 00:03:29.039 Because a lot of people ask me, well, hey, why didn't God do do miraculous things in America like he does in other countries? 00:03:29.199 --> 00:03:36.319 Uh uh Well, God's, we believe still God still can do the miraculous, uh, but the miraculous is just a platform for the gospel. 00:03:36.479 --> 00:03:38.639 Now you may be thinking, that makes no sense. 00:03:38.800 --> 00:03:39.759 Just stay with me. 00:03:39.840 --> 00:03:42.000 I'll show you that from the Bible, okay? 00:03:42.080 --> 00:03:47.680 Uh, but but here's three things uh uh that that happened as a result of what we're gonna read. 00:03:47.759 --> 00:03:55.199 And I want to start with them and we'll end with them this morning because these are the three things that I want you, uh I want for us as a church. 00:03:55.360 --> 00:03:58.000 These three things happen as a result of what we're gonna read today. 00:03:58.080 --> 00:04:00.479 Number one, a fresh filling of the Holy Spirit. 00:04:00.719 --> 00:04:06.479 Now, let me be very clear, because especially in the Baptist church, we don't talk about the Holy Spirit that much. 00:04:06.560 --> 00:04:13.039 And so I said a fresh filling, not a receiving, because when you become a Christian, you receive the Holy Spirit, okay? 00:04:13.120 --> 00:04:19.439 Uh, but but a fresh filling, in other words, they were just their their hearts were stirred up, they were full of the Holy Spirit. 00:04:19.519 --> 00:04:23.600 So you should ask yourself today, uh, hey, am I full of the Spirit? 00:05:56.319 --> 00:05:59.519 Because I want him to be intentional with other deer hunters. 00:06:00.000 --> 00:06:03.680 People that would look at me and be like, loser, you don't even own a gun. 00:06:04.240 --> 00:06:13.439 Yeah, so it's that we all of us, this is what you see in the in the act in the book of Acts is that everybody in the church was intentional in their sphere of influence, okay? 00:06:13.600 --> 00:06:16.560 And so this is what I'm uh this is what I'm driving at. 00:06:16.639 --> 00:06:19.759 I want all of us to this is what happens for them. 00:06:19.920 --> 00:06:21.199 I want it to happen for us. 00:06:21.279 --> 00:06:25.759 Now let me read Acts chapter 3, verse 1: the authority of missional living. 00:06:25.920 --> 00:06:30.000 Now, Peter and John were going up to the temple at the hour of prayer, the ninth hour. 00:06:30.079 --> 00:06:38.879 And a man lame from birth was being carried, whom they who they laid daily at the gate of the temple, that is called the beautiful gate, to ask alms of those entering the temple. 00:06:39.040 --> 00:06:42.959 Seeing Peter and John about to go into the temple, he asked to receive alms. 00:06:43.040 --> 00:06:46.639 And Peter directed his gaze at him, as did John, and said, Look at us. 00:06:46.800 --> 00:06:50.879 And he fixed his attention on them, expecting to receive something from them. 00:06:51.040 --> 00:06:55.120 But Peter said, I have no silver and gold, but what I do have I give to you. 00:06:55.279 --> 00:06:58.720 In the name of Jesus Christ of Nazareth, rise up and walk. 00:06:58.879 --> 00:07:06.639 And he took him by his hand and he raised him up, and immediately his feet and ankles were made strong, and leaping up, he stood up and began to walk. 00:07:06.720 --> 00:07:10.959 And he entered the temple with them, walking and leaping and praising God. 00:07:11.199 --> 00:07:23.439 And all the people saw him walking and praising God, and they recognized him as the one who sat at the beautiful gate of the temple, asking for alms, and they were filled with wonder and amazement at what had happened to him. 00:07:23.680 --> 00:07:27.439 Ask yourself, because usually we end the sermon with some questions on the screen. 00:07:27.600 --> 00:07:28.720 I'm not going to do that today. 00:07:28.879 --> 00:07:31.279 I want, I'll throw out some questions along the way. 00:07:31.360 --> 00:07:32.480 And here's the first one. 00:07:32.720 --> 00:07:38.720 When is the last time you saw God do something that left you filled with wonder and amazement? 00:07:39.519 --> 00:07:46.879 When is the last time you saw God do something where you were just like, oh my gosh, because that's what you see here, okay? 00:07:47.040 --> 00:07:51.920 Now, when I talk about the authority of missional living, it involves four things that I want to point to from the text. 00:07:52.079 --> 00:07:56.560 Number one is this missional living is about being intentional in the everyday. 00:07:56.800 --> 00:07:59.199 It's it that that's the best way I know to say it. 00:07:59.279 --> 00:08:04.319 It's not about being intense, it's about being intentional in the everyday. 00:08:04.959 --> 00:08:11.360 If you have a NIV, the New International Version, Acts chapter 3 starts with these two words, one day. 00:08:11.600 --> 00:08:12.879 Does anybody have that translation? 00:08:12.959 --> 00:08:14.240 Is that not what it starts with? 00:08:14.560 --> 00:08:15.279 One day. 00:08:15.439 --> 00:08:17.680 It wasn't a special day, it was just one day. 00:08:17.839 --> 00:08:21.120 It was just just, hey, they're just being intentional in the everyday. 00:08:21.199 --> 00:08:24.319 I uh and now mine says I read from the ESV. 00:08:24.399 --> 00:08:26.959 Now you may be thinking, what do you mean different translations? 00:08:27.120 --> 00:08:28.879 There's different translations of the Bible. 00:08:29.040 --> 00:08:32.639 They don't say different things, they say the same thing differently. 00:08:32.879 --> 00:08:34.159 Do you hear the difference? 00:08:34.399 --> 00:08:40.480 They say the same thing differently, like the New Living Translation is kind of modern English and it reads really well and really smooth. 00:08:40.639 --> 00:08:42.159 The New King James is that way. 00:08:42.320 --> 00:08:45.679 I I preach from what's called the ESV, the English Standard Version. 00:08:45.759 --> 00:08:50.080 And the reason I do is because it's the most literal from the Greek and the Hebrew, the original languages. 00:08:50.159 --> 00:08:55.120 Uh, but get you a Bible that you understand uh and read that. 00:08:55.200 --> 00:09:05.200 And so there's there's nothing spiritual about what you use, but I what I'm trying to, the point I'm trying to make is that missional living is about being intentional in the everyday warp and woof of life. 00:09:05.360 --> 00:09:09.279 So they're not on a mission trip, they're simply doing what we would call going to church. 00:09:09.360 --> 00:09:15.600 As the Bible says that they were going up to the temple at the hour of prayer, the ninth hour, that's three o'clock in the afternoon. 00:09:15.759 --> 00:09:25.039 Uh and and again, nothing wrong with mission trips, but my one of my prayers for our church that we'd stop thinking in terms of mission trips and start thinking in terms of missional living. 00:09:25.120 --> 00:09:31.440 Uh, when you start thinking in terms of missional living, then every time you walk out of your house, you are on a mission trip. 00:09:31.600 --> 00:09:32.240 Does that make sense?
