Today we commemorate the Holy Fathers of the First Ecumenical Council, gathered in Nicaea in A.D. 325 to defend the truth of the Orthodox Faith against the heresy of Arius. Guided by the Holy Spirit, these God-bearing Fathers boldly proclaimed the full divinity of our Lord Jesus Christ — “true God of true God” — preserving the apostolic faith handed down to the Church.
In this homily, Fr. Theophan reflects on the courage, humility, and spiritual discernment of the Nicene Fathers, and what their witness means for Orthodox Christians today as we strive to remain faithful to Christ and His Church.
