As the Church prepares to celebrate the Feast of the Holy Apostles Peter and Paul, Fr. Theophan reflects on the lives of these two great saints and what they reveal about the Christian life. Far from promising comfort, prosperity, or an easy path, the witness of the apostles reminds us that faithfulness to Christ often involves hardship, sacrifice, and perseverance.

Drawing from the lives of Peter and Paul—from Pentecost to imprisonment, persecution, and martyrdom—this homily explores the difference between modern expectations of Christianity and the apostolic vision handed down by the Church. Their example challenges us to endure suffering with hope, remain steadfast in our calling, and seek first the Kingdom of God regardless of the cost.

As Christians living in a relatively comfortable age, we are called to remember that the path to the Resurrection always passes through the Cross.

Homily preached at St. Innocent Orthodox Church. (Macon, GA)
