If you were 30 or 50 feet down in a mine that was collapsed, what would you do? Would you just sit and hope that somebody knew you were underground, or would you do all you could do to fight your way out?

To say what's going on out there is nothing short of crazy is not an exaggeration. And I'm not saying that this is crazy good or it's crazy bad. It just is what it is. And as much as I hate that statement, it is what it is. If you are someone who is working from home now, running a business, then this podcast is for you. If you are living with someone who runs a business, or goes to work every day and they leave the house or they go to their home office or the kitchen table with question marks in their eyes, then this podcast is for you too.

I want to introduce you to a few strategies and tactics that will help you get into the right state of mind as you are working through what's going on today.

Make today a great one!

If you were 10 feet, 20 feet 30 50 feet down in a mine that was collapsed, what would you do? Would you just sit and hope that somebody knew you were underground? Or would you do all you could do to fight your way out? Welcome to the Red Rock Leadership Podcast, a show designed for business owners and leaders who want to transform their company culture and unleash the potential for exponential growth. Here's your host, founder, CEO and author of Red Rock leadership Jeff Ruby. To say What's going on out there is nothing short of crazy is not an exaggeration. And I'm not saying that this is crazy good or it's crazy bad. It just is what it is. And as much as I hate that statement, it is what it is. If you are someone who is now needing to work from home, if you are somebody that is running a business and wondering what's next. If you're somebody who lives with someone who has a business or needs to go to work every day and they leave the house in the morning or they go to their home office or the kitchen table with question marks in their eyes. This podcast is for you. I want to introduce you to a few strategies, few tactics, a few things that you can think about that will allow you to be in the right state of mind as you are working through what's going on today. Notice how I didn't lead with what's going on. I'm just mentioning that something's going on because you know why there's always something going on always, and I really look at training the training that I do and the coaching that I do to be the preparation for a time such as this. I want you to think about what's going on in your mind right now. Are you stressed frustrated? Are you angry? Are you on an emotional roller coaster? If you say no for you, it's business as usual. I don't think it's really hit you yet. Things were different. We must act different, but you know what's kind of interesting. We should have been acting this way all along. We should be concerned all the time with the state of things, because when things are going good when things are not in disarray, life's a cakewalk and you know, I've had people say to me in the past they said, You know what? If it was easy, anybody would be doing it. And I've been saying now for the last six months, 78 months And a lot of you know that I've been doing training for, you know, I've been saying this, that we are due for something I didn't think it was gonna be. Anything drastic is going on right now, but we are due for an adjustment and people were getting arrogant. I think that the mindset of people is one of arrogance when you could interrupt somebody on the way to the bank and get them to give you some money. You know, things are going really well, and that's that's where we were taken things for granted. Taking life for granted, taken relationships for granted, taking business for granted. And now we're in a new normal. Let's just face it, we're in a new normal. It's not a bad thing. It just is what it is. A. T, C, A. T C. Appreciate or acknowledge, turn around and can d'oh! That's a technique I want to teach you about right now, a t c appreciate or acknowledge. Turn around and can D'oh! Why am I bring this up to you right now? If you're a sales person, you you better be making calls. And you might be saying to me right now what? Really aiming. Eating cold calls. I mean, you better be making calls. You better have a list in front of you of people that you're calling on a day to day basis our our basis, working two and 1/2 to 3 times harder than you've ever worked before. I know what you're saying. Oh, Jeff, you know what you know you got to use that. What's going on in the world today is an opportunity to propel yourself forward. Well, if that's what you're thinking, that's what you were already thinking. And I couldn't be further from that wanting to be the message. Do you know that every individual on the planet craves an emotional connection? Did you know that we crave emotional connection and we're in a time where when things get tough, people go in a silo, we're afraid to call people. We're afraid to make a phone call for fear. We're gonna, you know, disrupt someone or upset them. And I'm gonna be straight with you. I'm gonna shoot you straight. I'm not gonna tell you that. Friday I wasn't thinking the same thing. Now is not the time to make phone calls. I slept on it over the weekend. I got out my journal. I kind of noodle around with a little bit. I hit the ground on Monday morning, got to talking about a couple things with some clients, and I decided to start this messaging of talk to people. Talk to people, talk to people. And that's when I came up with a T. C. When you call someone in the phone bid 19 let's not lead with Corona virus. Why? It's already out there. Why would you lead with it? Why not? Leading with how much you appreciate someone that you acknowledge how they're feeling right, that you maybe maybe you affirm them and in what they're doing, and then why don't you turn things around? So if they decide that they want to talk to you about Corona, they want to talk to you about cove it 19. Maybe you could just turn it around and say, Well, how is it affecting you personally. And then And then you listen, really listen to what they say. And then once you come back with something you can do like there's a lot of things you can do. You can If you're a praying person, you can pray for him. If you're someone who just plain out cares, you could tell him you're gonna keep him in your thoughts. Maybe there's something you can do to help them through a situation that they're in or something that they're thinking about. If we think that all the companies, all the businesses that we do business with are going to sit by and close their doors. We got another thing coming, Gang. People want to stay in business. If you are 10 feet, 20 feet, 30 50 feet down in a mine that was collapsed. What would you do? Would you just sit and hope that somebody knew you were underground? Or would you do all you could do to fight your way out? That's where we are today. People want to fight their way out, we're gonna find new ways to do business. We're gonna meet virtually We're gonna We're gonna converse. We're gonna have conversations that are going to sound different. You know, we're gonna have Ah, a new way of communicating. It has to do with putting yourself in the right state of mind. Are you in the avoid state or you and the approach ST Are you avoiding difficult to handle situations difficult to handle conversations? Are you going to just sit back and wait for things to get better? Do you know this could last another five months and you could look at that as a negative Or you could look at that as a positive. You choose your state of mind, choose to be in the approach state, choose toe, look positively at the future. As I said the beginning, this podcast there has been no time like the present for great leadership. It's time for you to step up. It's time for you Toe point people toe a more positive future. Now is the time. And you know what? You gotta work hard. You got to be able to just keep moving your feet. If you're not willing to do that, then here's what I have to tell you to do. If you are somebody who worked for someone. Take Petey. Oh, take your paid time off, right. Take your vacation time. If you can't bring yourself to work, take the time that's deserved to you. Step aside. And then if you come back from your PT or you're out of P T. O and you can't bring yourself to work two and 1/2 to 3 times harder and make yourself purposeful and valuable, then you ought to do the honorable thing and take a layoff. Businesses right now can't afford to carry deadweight that can't afford to carry people who aren't going to put in the effort every day to make a difference. I don't care where you are in your organization. You can bring value. I was talking to a company this morning that has warehouse workers. I said, Are you Are you kidding yourself? To think that some of those warehouse workers may not have talent, they could maybe do a skit. They could record a video. They could create a marketing campaign for you. Perhaps some of these people have ideas for setting up something virtual, and that conversation took off into an hour long discussion where we started to self discover different ways that we could be different, different ways that we could reach our customers. And you know what? It's you, you're thinking begins to open up opportunities for other people to do business a different way. People want to keep working. This is what we do. We work, we inspire and encourage others. That's what human beings do. This too shall pass. And my question is this Are you going to get to the other side? And the waves have just been pummeling you and washing over you, and you're just exhausted by the time this whole thing ends. You know, it's unfortunate. I remember 2007 the financial meltdown, and I remember what a lot of people went through. And I know there's a ton of people that worked hard through that and unfortunately, didn't come out unscathed. Right? They came. They came out the other side with battle wounds and battle scars, and and they maybe they've lost everything. But I know people who never stop pedaling and came out the other side, and that they weren't They weren't they weren't flush. They didn't have everything that they thought that they should have. If they're working that hard. But you know what they did have that they realized they had It was their dignity. And that was the one thing. And I interviewed number of people that said, You know what? I don't regret working hard and coming up short. At least I have my dignity. And then there was a whole nother group of people that when the when the storm came, they sat by the side of the road and they didn't They didn't do anything. They just let the just let the storm come over them again and again and again and again and again. And, yeah, they lost everything. But you know what? Here's the thing. It took those people years and some of them still have never recovered because they didn't have their dignity when the whole storm ended. And I'm not saying this because I'm trying to hurt anybody's feelings or I'm not tryingto bring the light. You know something? You bring up old wounds or anything like that, but I'm trying to say Hey, people, let's get it together. Let me tell you something else we ought to all be focusing on right now is education. We are to be educating ourselves. Now is the time we ought to be reading, studying, looking into the facts behind Cove it. 19 The facts, not the opinions, not means on social media, not news. On the half hour, right, I'm talking about the fax like let's go to the CDC and make sure we've got the latest in the greatest. And if that's the most relevant factual data, we have them. Then why don't we turn that into our fact sheet when we educate each other on that educator employees? There's so much information going on around us right now, and people are just winging things and flinging things, and we don't know, we just don't know and some things we don't have answers to. Why don't we just admit that that's educate ourselves? The other thing you can do is you can educate yourself on what's going on and how the government's gonna help out. I mean, there's relief money available to many businesses, and many people educate ourselves. Educate ourselves on different industries that are being affected. Read. Now's the time. Talk to your kids, learn how to talk to your kids, talk to your spouse, learn how to talk to your spouse, gang. Now is the time. I want this to be an encouraging message to you. I want this to be something that that you listen to and think to yourself. You know what? I'm gonna get to work. Let me give you of another couple of ideas that I have ways that we ought to be taking inventory right now. Let's take inventory, take financial inventory. Look at your budget. What do you spending money on that you shouldn't be spending money on right now? What should you be doing right now to get things in financial order, not hitting the panic button, Like having some serious conversations about how you are going to look at your finances. The next thing is, and these air in no particular order spiritually, where are you? Spiritually, It has been nagging at you for a little while that you know, you you need to get in the right relationship with God. Do you know that this virus is so unique? Because one of the questions I had when we win this whole thing for Start is I wonder if this was man made and what they've come to understand that this thing is so unique, it's not possible that man could have ever made it. It's so unique. And here's the other thing. It is so unique that we can't kill it. You can't kill it. Very interesting, right? I think it's time spiritually, we get our minds, our hearts, we get him in order. Reach out to me if you want. Have a conversation about that. I won't go into a deep detail on this on this podcast. But if you're somebody that is in need, just hit me up on the website. Hit the contact form. I'll respond to you. I'll call you directly. You leave me your phone number. We'll have a conversation. Get yourself an order. From a health perspective, now's the time. Now's the time. Take a look at your health. Also, I mentioned education socially. Get yourself together socially. If there's something I made. This made this declaration a long time ago. I don't think ever made it public, but I guess it's gonna be public now. I don't want to have any enemies. I don't want to have anybody that I haven't made amends with. I Forgiveness is such a powerful thing I don't want to have this sort of feeling in my stomach that there's somebody I can't stand, somebody I don't like. I don't like that root of bitterness. I don't like that Those grudges. We've got to release those things. Put your itself together socially. Maybe you haven't talked to Mom or dad a little while. Maybe it's a sister or brother or a cousin. Maybe is a friend, an ex spouse, maybe in a strange son or daughter. Now's the time. Now is the time. Let's get ourselves together from a work perspective, I told you you should be working 2 to 3 times harder than you've ever worked. Don't sit on a payroll if you're not bringing value to the organization. Work like your 50 feet under in a broken mind. Let's get our Selves together. I just mentioned to you the areas of our life. Now is the time we've got time that we're home. We've got time to reflect. Get yourself a journal and let's get it together. Let's use this time valuably get your goals in order and then let me finish with this approach. State. Avoid state talk track if you will approach state avoid state? Do you know that if you're seeing this as overwhelming, if you're overwhelmed right now, if you're overwhelmed by the news of your overwhelmed by rhetoric, if you're overwhelmed by your own emotion to your own thoughts, you know you must be in the avoid state and the avoid state just simply means that the situation around you seems way bigger than it really is. Because your influence is so small, it's because your personal awareness has diminished and your let's hope that your personal awareness hasn't diminished so much that now you have a breach of integrity and you become unmotivated. And here's how you know you've got here. You're not empathetic with the people around you. You can't find the words toe to really communicate in a calm, rest ful sort of way. Low emotional intelligence avoid state your influence. Is small situations or big? Not a good place to be. You could make a choice. You can get yourself into the approach state. It's just a choice, and that choice becomes more easily made when you get those areas of your life in order. When you begin to journal when you get to get to get that garbage out of your mind. They call that in mind. Trash. Get it out of your mind. Get it on paper. Turn the page. Focus. Focus on a more positive future. Look at the big pictures. Don't see obstacles. Choose toe. Look at what's positive. Choose toe. Look at what's going to be good. It's very difficult to get their gang if you don't have those areas of your life in order. If you have unforgiveness, if you're spiritually not connected to God, if you if you don't have, ah, a good work ethic financially, you're distressed. It's very it could be a challenge, but it's not impossible. It just takes you getting focused in getting organized. Get yourself into the approach date. And then when you get into that approach ST. Let me just tell you something. It's an amazing place to be situations. They seem smaller, but they don't actually get smaller. They just seem smaller because your influence is so much greater. It's because your mindset is so much greater. A friend of mine was. Tommy is reading a book and I forgive me. I can't I don't know what book this came from. I don't even remember exactly. I think maybe it was Mike Jones. So, Mike, if you're listening, I'll shout it out to you. It might also been Mike Leonard was a Mike. I know that, but But what they said was they were reading a book, and it was all about this idea of growth mindset and that the human body is on. Lee ever accomplishes something like a maxim of 40% of its of its potential, a maximum of 40% of his presidential being that every human being has ever lived. No matter what world records they've ever set, they've only ever accomplished 40% of what they're actually capable of accomplishing. Is that amazing or what? I have no idea that's that's founded or not, but it it seems logical to me that that we could push ourselves a lot harder and a lot further than we actually do. It's a choice. It's a choice. Get in the approach state, make the choice. I'm trusting that the words that I've chosen to share with you today over this podcast will be meaningful. That will put you in the right state of mind. I'm so appreciative of my followers. I'm so appreciative of my book Army. Some 30 folks who have been reviewing my book. They will release on March 24th my business. You know, I'm so appreciative of the clients that I have that continue to lean on me and lean into me and teach me more than they could ever know. I'm so appreciative of that. I just I just want to take the time to say that on this podcast that let's focus on a more positive future. It's your choice gang. I hope this has been helpful. Thanks for joining me on the Red Rock leadership podcast. I wanted to take a little bit slower pace today. I'm a little bit more keyed up, Norman.
