I have been struggling recently. I won't lie.
For me words of encouragement have always gone a long way.
One quote that has been on my mind is that 5 minutes of encouragement at rock bottom is worth more than 10 times that when you are in the spotlight.
In this episode I dissected that and shared three reasons why I think that is the case.
1. Timely - In your moment of struggle it is the main thing on your mind. In a week or two you will probably have something else to think about. Receiving encouragement shortly after the break down helps a lot in being able to channel those emotions towards something besides yourself.
2. Personal - The best encouragement I have received was specific and it helped me get a better idea of why I needed to keep going. When someone reaches out to you in your rough time and they know you well they can say words and do things that will truly help you to rise up again.
3. Lasting - In a few years you will probably be able to look back on this experience and remember exactly how you felt and what happened. When you reach out to someone struggling you are not just reaching out to them in that moment. There is the potential that the lift you give them will help them for the rest of their life, and they'll never forget it.
