Jasmine Star 00:00:00  Welcome to the final day of your five day growth challenge. We've reached our fifth and final day of celebrating our 500th episode, and it is also the fifth year anniversary of this podcast. Today's episode is going to be sharing strategies about embracing a new identity. Growth often means stepping into a version of yourself that you haven't really met yet, and this episode will help you make that transition. And remember, if you leave a review today, you'll be entered to win $500. Why is this important? The reviews help us get to where we want to go. It attracts top talent and it actually helps so much with this understanding what is really resonating with you. We create the show for you and now when you leave a review with you. So stay tuned until the end for your final step in taking some action during this challenge. Embrace an infinite identity. My word for 2023 was rebirth. And like I have to tell you, man, like, did it come to life for me? Did that word just like make itself true in my life? Yes, but not in the way that I expected.

Jasmine Star 00:01:01  To be honest, nothing about me changed in my life until about late August or early September. So I haven't spoken publicly about this experience because I'm still working through a lot of everything that I had learned, but I would love to share about my first ever alone trip to a place called sensei. So I went to sensei and I wasn't really excited to go. I had a mentor. I had my husband, and I had R.C. oh, look across from me and say, you got to step away like you got to get away. And they saw in me what I couldn't see myself. That I was working so much to compensate for something, anything. And if I was being very honest in my family, I come from a long line on both sides of addiction. And so I think in today's society, some addictions are celebrated and some addictions are pushed aside. And so we know addictions that are not so healthy. And I think I got to a point where I got really addicted to work, and it was the only thing I wanted to do.

Jasmine Star 00:02:03  And I think that the work was substituting me not wanting to address like stuff that had happened in 2022. So I thought, oh, 2023, I'm getting this new word. It's called rebirth. And all of these things are going to be like, so amazing. I'm going to be a new person. And in my mind, and my finite, small minded human thinking, I was like, my rebirth would be totally, perfectly scheduled around February, March because I'm going to be ready for it. And then I just realized that the more that things didn't change in my life, the more I just wanted to work, because work kept me busy, and work kept me not feeling the things that I wanted to feel. And so when I was 100% with my family was one of my family, but I was 100% with work, it was 100% with work. Like there was no like time to just be and think and feel. And so August, September 3rd very important people said, you're going and you need to go by the end of the month.

Jasmine Star 00:02:49  So I went and I spent a week by myself, something I have never done in my entire life. And there I met a lot of great people. I worked with therapists, I did meditation, I did yoga, and one of the things that I learned is that something I've always learned, but it was good to hear it again, is that I am not my work, and my work is into me, and my worth is not in the work that I do, the work that I produce, or how much I work. In more than anything, I learned that my identity isn't fixed. It doesn't have to be one thing. I believe that our identities can be infinite. I could be an entrepreneur, and I can be a mother, and I could be a partner in life and business and friendship. I could be a daughter. I can be a granddaughter. I can be a friend. I can be an auntie. I can be a cousin. I can be 37 different types of entrepreneurs.

Jasmine Star 00:03:38  You have the power to evolve and change no matter what box people try to put you in. Or let's just be real, the box you put yourself in. So in order to do this, you have to reflect on what you want to change. You want to set clear goals, and you want to be open to evolving over time. Let people know about your goals, act on your goals, and be kind to yourself as you grow. It might feel like you're starting over when you decide to reinvent yourself or your career, but trust me, you're not. We can get into an example right? Let's say there is an aesthetician. Let's call her Britney, and you know Brittany's business really got started and he started getting noticed on TikTok, but not by a potential clients, but by other estheticians like her setup videos, her product recommendations and her industry knowledge had citizens from around the world reaching out to her for advice and asking questions and how to grow on social media. Now, even though Brittany spent years building a brand as solely an institution, she started to choose to embrace an infinite identity.

Jasmine Star 00:04:39  She started realizing that she had a big opportunity in front of her. Brittany decided to pivot her brand and add on consultations for other industry professionals. Her reinvention allowed her to share her expertise, impact more lives, and make more money. Choose an infinite identity. This allows you to grow and evolve instead of holding you back to pass versions of yourself who you no longer are. Yes and amen. I'm reading a book by Dan Allison called The Gap in the gain, and I've mentioned that book on my podcast before, but I'm listening to it now on audio, and it feels like brother is coming in sideways, preaching and then beating me up at the same time, and the concept of the gap in the gain is simply that where you are now, we have a tendency to compare what is, to compare where we are to where we want to be. And so what happens is that there's a big gap of where we are versus where we want to be, where we think we deserve to be, what we aspire to be.

Jasmine Star 00:05:38  And so when we look at the distance between where we are to where that is in the future, we get hurt and we get disappointed, and we say, look at how bad, look at how slow, look at how behind. But it takes just as much energy for you to look at where you are now and look back from where you've come. If you go back to who you were five years ago, if you were to go back to who you were ten years ago, that version of you is looking at you today and is blown away that you are doing this and that you have done that. So when you wake up in the morning and you are not feeling all that great about yourself because you're looking at things in the future and you see a gap, I want you to flip the script and say, look at how far I've come. Look at what I have done on nothing but $2, a bag of oranges and a Social Security check. Look at what I have done with nothing.

Jasmine Star 00:06:22  Great. Now look at what you can do in the future. Because if we're about to talk about common challenges that come up on your reinvent and journey, we're gonna do that right about now. Okay, so I have three that I really want to talk about because I see it happen a lot with a lot of entrepreneurs as they pivot and reinvent themselves. Number one, be prepared to feel emotional at times like you're essentially demolishing a brand that you spent time and energy and effort and most likely money creating. This can be hard, but it's necessary given the place that you're meant to be and know that you're doing this because you have a vision that is worth it. Now, I have to say, I'm not a very emotional person. Like it's just I have a twin sister and I always say, oh, she was born with the crying gene and I was born with like, the non crying gene. but when I'm pivoting, there's so much I don't know that I can't depend on my logic because I don't know, there's no logic to compare it to.

Jasmine Star 00:07:18  So it's easy for my emotions to take over. But here's a reminder that I repeat to myself. Emotions change. Facts don't. Emotions are fleeting. My vision isn't. Emotions aren't as dependable as consistently stacking small actions each day to get to my goals. So while we might feel the temptation to be a little bit more emotional, we're not going to let our emotions overrun the vision. We're not going to let our emotions overrun the logic that it takes to do the small work in the dark and cold days to get to where on a go. Can I get an amen? Yes. Number two, expect resistance from others, including friends, family, followers or colleagues they might not understand and they might not support your reinvention journey. I want you to stay true to yourself and stay true to your vision, even if it means that you're facing opposition from people who love you and are trying to protect you. Now, please note it doesn't last. People will get used to the new version of you and your success will silence their doubts.

Jasmine Star 00:08:23  What I have learned is that sometimes people don't want to see you grow and evolve because they fear that change, or they feel threatened by your progress. I got a message on Instagram from a person. Now before anybody thinks, oh, it was like a hater or it was like an anonymous comment. No, it was from an actual follower because I clicked on over to their profile to say, like, was this like a Drive-By comment? Like, do they even follow me? No, this person follows me. This person has their face and their name attached to their Instagram profile, and they're using it for business. So I got a message from somebody who had said, I really think that you should stick to posts about social media. Your new business content feels a little bit like. And then she put like a lips, like three dots. It feels a little generic. Generic. Generic. That too. It feels a little generic and like you don't have a clear point of view. Ooh.

Jasmine Star 00:09:18  Pew pew pew!

Jasmine Star 00:09:19  And I thought to myself, game on, game on. Not everybody will be for me. But you're going to be sad that you were never with me. let's get on to number three. Let's get on to number three. But it's just hearing it and sitting through it and we're okay with that. So number three is to push back and past the fear of self-doubt. Now I want you to recognize these feelings. You're totally natural, but do not let them hold you back. Instead, I want you to focus on your strengths and your past successes to build confidence in your ability to succeed. Remember, every setback is an opportunity to learn and grow stronger. Embracing a new identity is both exciting and challenging, but it's the key to reaching your fullest potential. Your final action step of this challenge is to visualize the person you want to become. All we want you to do is write down one action, just one that you could start today to begin living as that person. And the reason why we have this challenge is because we didn't want you being the same as you started, as you took this challenge, and you took one tiny action every single day as part of the challenge, you are a different person.

Jasmine Star 00:10:18  And that's the thing we created this for. I also want to remind you, don't forget, today is your last chance to leave a review and enter to win $500. Thank you so much for being with me on this journey. Here's to your growth into the incredible things ahead.
