Come back to the Jasmine star show, a conversational podcast where people building the business of their dreams and a life they love. Today's episode is from one of my ask me anything sessions on my Facebook page. So every week I go live as a way to connect with people in real time. I offer to help and I give back everything I've learned along the way. Oh yeah. We talk about life, business and everything on the in between. I've also learned that these flash fire Q and a sessions are helpful. At least that's what many of you have told me in my direct messages on Instagram. Yes, I read and I respond to all of them. Real talk , legit. But I also have to let you know that for a while I've dreaded sharing these. Ask me anything sessions. To be honest, I thought that they were unprofessional. I worried the audio was awful and I hated the sound of my voice. But I quickly learned that when I get out of my own way, the realness of who I am cracks through. Okay, so why am I telling you this friend? I can't help but want this to be your invitation for you to get out of your own way. Now, you might worry that you don't have the right tools or maybe you worry about not having the right words to say or maybe you think someone else can do it better. I'm like, heck, maybe you're right, but here's what I also know. No one is you. No one can do what you do or say it like you say it in that that is your superpower . It's time for you to show it off. Speaking of making it work, however you can, I'm excited for you to hear my realtime answers to the questions that you asked, so let's listen in even though the audio ain't all that great. Hi friends. How are you? Welcome to this time of the week where I have the opportunity to connect with you. I always get nervous and awkward before I do this. I've been doing this now I don't even know a couple of years and I still get stupid, nervous, awkward. This is asked me anything. This is our opportunity to connect, to answer your business questions as they come up and as they arise. So let's start right about here. Uh , this question has been updated four times and Wendy Nicholson is asking the best tips for starting a Facebook group from scratch. How to get people to join without a click funnel. So let's dive in and focus on the three ways that you could start growing your Facebook group without a click funnel. So we're going to dive right in. And way number one, it is so important to have a clear mission. Like the thing that I always ask and tell people is to really understand what a mission means. And these are a few questions to get started. Why should someone join? What is the value and what do people get? So if you want to have a Facebook group that is different from your Facebook page, it's going to be very important for you to answer those three questions. Like, why should somebody be there? The value is what are they getting in your group that they're not getting on your Facebook page? Because there has to be a distinction. And another thing would be what is the benefits? Like joining a group is a lot more of a commitment for people because groups have a tendency to feel more intimate now that they are intimate, but people feel like the group is private and they can be a little bit more of themselves. So what then would be the very clear mission we're going to get into the third way to grow a Facebook group without click funnels and that is to have a clear member like who do you actually want in the group? Who are they? Why should they join? What do they need? Like when you ha , when you know basically what your group is about, like the benefits that they get and then you know exactly who you want in the group. Then all of a sudden creating the content becomes so much easier. A lot of times people like, they're like, I want a group like just period. Instead of saying, I want a group that does this particular thing for this particular purpose. So who is that person? Why would they make the commitment to join the group? Like what do they get as a benefit? But furthermore, what do they need? So if you're a photographer, why would you have a Facebook group? Like what ? What would the Facebook group before and what kind of content are you sharing for them? Now, the third thing that you want to consider as you're creating a organic Facebook group, no ads, no ClickFunnels , is three to have a clear schedule. How often will you post? How often will you engage and how will the content be different? Because oftentimes it's going to be real easy to have this temptation to say like, okay, I want a Facebook group because I've heard really great things about it, but my Facebook group is just there and it's for anyone who wants to join and I'm going to post whenever I feel like it though. That's like the three kisses of death. If you want a successful Facebook group, the best thing is what does the group do? What are the value? What are the benefits? Why would somebody join? Who is a Facebook group for the clearer you are for that person, the more likelihood you're going to attract the type of person you want in the group. And number three, you have to be consistent. How often will you post? How often will you engage and how will your content be different? You have to have something in the group this wildly different. So let's give a real life example, and I'm going to give an example. I'm so sorry I'm getting choking over here. I'm thinking my real life example, and people are going to say, Oh, Jasmine Stripe pitch social curator. Well, number one, I don't pitch. I only ever, and I'm not in this , I'm not in the zone. It's selling right now. Social curator is closed for enrollment. So I can talk openly about the Facebook group and the differences that exist there. I do not do group coaching, outward facing, so I'll go live Facebook, I'll answer questions, but group coaching is different in there. We have productivity, power hours where we go on and we create content that's specific to the group. We bring in guest masterclasses. So we bring in experts in their fields to teach people. We have three C calls, which means that you're getting individualized attention on where your business is and what you're doing. So for me, there's a very clear distinction, like if you follow me on my Facebook page, go. If you're in the Facebook group, you're there for something else. I hope those three tips helped you. Let's get into the next question. Christina said blogging. Is it worth starting now? Ideas for speakers getting started during this time? Thanks, Jerry . Star . Okay, so the question is pertaining to speakers in general, but the main question was, is blogging worth your time? And I come from the school of thought, and maybe it's just cause I'm a hustler and not the hustler is I'm going to steal some money from a card game, but a hustler being like, I'm going to hustle and do whatever I can to make it work. So yeah, I totally think that blogs are still worth their time. I always believe that you should start messy . You should start wonky. And I believe that you should start now. Right? Because what Christina had asked with specificity was how does this pertain to speakers? How do we get discovered to speakers? Will you have to put yourself in the mind of blogs and Pinterest are for search based marketing. Like when somebody knows they're looking for a speaker or when somebody knows that they want to invite somebody to an event. But Google and Pinterest are the best ways to do that. So if you want to use a blog, I always say to put content on your blog that somebody would be searching for. I still blog. We're posting about three or four blog posts a week and those are based on things that I think people would be asking for. So for instance, I am going to share this video on my blog, but I'm going to create a small transcript. You know, should people have a blog in 2020 , uh, tips for starting a Facebook group? I'm going to be creating content around things that people are searching for. I believe that blogging is still pertinent. But if you're trying to be like, okay, I'm a speaker or you could fill in the blank, but Christina's a speaker and she's like, what kind of blog push should it have? I would say, what are people searching for? How to stand confidently on a stage, how to take a 60 minute presentation and cut it down into a 30 minute presentation. How to answer questions quickly and efficiently. How do establish trust on a stage like you literally are going to be creating the content to help you get discovered as the authority in your field. So let me know if this is working, but sometimes I talk and I'm like, I don't know if this is resonating . If you have questions, leave them here. Like we definitely want to answer those questions to make sure that I'm connecting the dots because sometimes I think so fast I Lily pad over connection points. So holler at your girl. Elma says, my question is when do you use Pinterest over Instagram or even Facebook? I'm a bit confused. Oh, so I started using Pinterest with a lot of seriousness in 2019 because I was blogging and so I had a lot of searchable content. Now Pinterest is very similar to Google. When you go to Google, you know what you're looking for. You're looking for leather moccasins, you are looking for golf tips. You are looking for how to crochet. Crazy enough people are going to Pinterest the exact same way. People are going to Pinterest looking for golf tips, how to crochet, but on Pinterest it's very visual. Now on my blog, because I'm a photographer, I include visual photos and on the blog post I will create, I'll create a graphic. It's a photo and then it has a title on it. How to improve your golf swing? No, I don't golf, I'm just using an example, but for me I have things like how to use Instagram stories to increase organic reach. I have things that people would be searching for like how to get more followers, how to organize Instagram posts, how to go live on Facebook. I need all of these graphics in my blog post, and then I have text and copy in the blog post itself that then becomes searchable on Google and any other search engine. However, I will create photos and graphics in the blog post and then from my Pinterest account I will go into Pinterest and pin my own blog posts in addition to other things. So when somebody goes to Pinterest and types in how to do a Facebook live, there's the possibility of one of my articles having been pinned from a virtual graphic and then linked back to my blog post . Now the more people that pin that graphic of how to do a Facebook live, and just in case anybody's wondering how to do a Facebook live, I created a whole tutorial, Jasmine star.com forward slash FB live page. We'll leave the link right here, the word slash FB life, but I've created multiple blog posts around that topic so there's a higher likelihood of my pins coming up. So where does my Pinterest strategy fall in? Very similar to my blogging strategy. So just imagine you guys, I am creating a blog post, one piece of content that can then be searchable on Google and also be shareable on Pinterest. So there you go. All right , let's get into another one of these questions and this was uploaded and this was a good one. Six upvotes question. Facebook 2020 where are my efforts best spent building an official page for my personal brand or serving the network I have on my personal page. If it's the page, how do I build the bridge to get there? So there are a lot of people who say, I'm on Facebook and I have a personal page that I'm using for business and people say, I don't really like, or I don't really want to start a Facebook page because organic reach and engagement is not the same. And to that I respond, I know that's facts. You will absolutely get more engagement on your personal Facebook page. Facebook Senate , it's not a secret. However, on your personal Facebook page, you're limited to 5,000 people. So if you are spending all of your time building out your personal page, you're going to get your personal brand to be so big that people can't follow you there anymore. And so you spent a lot of time building a short ladder. I made the decision to say, I know I'm not going to get as much organic reach on my Facebook page, but I also know that that page can grow with me. But Hillary's asking, okay Jasmine, if I do the Facebook page and there's not a lot of organic engagement there, how should then I do it? Or should I do both? Or should I just focus on one? And my response would be do what you can however you can. If I was Hillary, I would be building out my Facebook page to the best of my ability. I would be going live there. And here's the thing, like how many of us like co-sign real quick, like drop me an emoji. If you have that friend on Facebook who's using his or her profile to sell their product again and again, it's like you probably went to high school with them or you went to college with them and then all of a sudden you're like, if I have to see one more shake or if I have to see one more essential oil, right? Like, but here's the thing, Facebook personal pages should be about personal lives, like what you're doing and connecting, right? People don't always want to be sold to, but when you framework a Facebook page, people are following you there for a very specific different reason. So during this time, some people are very, very, very busy, but some people have been given a little bit of extra time during this uncertain time to actually have a little bit more downtime. So you could spend it on Netflix or you could spend it building your business. I believe now is the perfect time to build your personal brand because what a lot of people are doing are sell, sell, sell, sell, sell. But right now, if you have the ability to build your personal brand, that is what somebody thinks about you. That's what somebody feels about you. That's what somebody says about you when you walk out of a room. Oh, that Hillary girl, she's this. If you are not needing to sell at this moment, the best thing you could do is create free resources, is to share your knowledge, is to connect with other people, is to give the type of engagement that you want to get this, the time to build a personal brand. So that when we revamped , because it's not going to be if when we rebound after this crazy time in human history, people are gonna be like, you know what? I really like him. He showed up in a different way. I really liked her. She showed up a different way and that personal brand is going to seep on over to your business brand. Okay? A questions . You could have them. Please leave them here. I'm going to get into some right now. Um, what do you , Oh , so Afton Porter asked, what do you mean by text and copy? So I was referring to writing blog posts. So for instance, right now I'm on Facebook. People are listening to what I'm saying, but Google doesn't read video. Google only reads text copy, texts and copy are both in the same thing. Text is what you write in a blog post. If I got this exact video and just put it onto my blog without any words, without any text or copy, Google would think it doesn't exist. What I have to do is get this video embedded into my blog and then write using words the things that I talked about today, that three steps to how the three steps to creating a Facebook group organically. I'm also going to be typing in how to start a podcast. That's one of the questions I'm going to get to. I'm also going to be putting into should I be blogging during this time? So I'm creating notes from this video so that it's readable on Google. Uh, should I ask , I've got four subgroups audiences to my overhead business company. Is it socially cool to create four separate Facebook groups versus one overwhelming group? Shy, yes. If you have the bandwidth, all a hundred percent people will spend more time in a small group that is tailor made for the conversations that they want to have. That is the beauty of Facebook groups is that the beauty of Facebook groups is that you can find a group with how to play musical instruments that's going to be big and sometimes overwhelming and finding a Facebook group or how to play kazoo really, really, really small, but the people that are really only want to talk about how to play kazoo and if you have more questions, please feel free to leave in here. Let's dive into this question from Felicia that's uploaded five times. I would love to know tips and starting a podcast. What are some great resources that you would recommend? Now here's the thing, Felicia and anybody else who wants to start a podcast. I'm going to be real with you. I am not the person who is going to lay the framework for how to start a podcast. I started a podcast. The way that I do everything in my business. I literally, I'm like, I'm going to do it. Okay, we'll figure it out. Like you jump and then you figure it out on the way down. I jump in with both feet. I'm the kind of person who learns better by doing, not by thinking. So I know that Pat Flynn and I know that John Lee Dumas, they have resources on how to start a podcast. Now I can't say that I, that I saw them, but I know them as people and I think they're great people and I think that those reasons will probably help you a time. I just literally went and bought the equipment, plugged it in and started to record. You know , people ask Jasmine like, what are you, what podcasting equipment. I've made it super easy. Jasmine, star.com, forward slash Amazon. That's my Amazon list. It lists out everything. I use my podcasts . I am not techie whatsoever. I just plug in according to my computer, plug in a cord into this little box. I think it's called a recorder. No, it's not called recorder. You'll see it there on my Amazon list. Um, all of my products are there and I record in garage band, garage band comes for free on my laptop. We are not fancy whatsoever. I record in my closet, I connect it to my computer, I record and garage band. That's my podcast. So you know when it comes to this I'm like y'all go to my Amazon link, figure out what you want. It's all laid out for you there. That's exactly what I use in . I just dove in with two feet. Paula said. How would you suggest re-engaging members of an existing Facebook group that you haven't been consistent in? Well this depends Paula, quite honestly on how group, how long has the group been stagnant? There have been times, there is one group. It pains me. Oh I'm so actually I'm embarrassed. There was a group that got up to 20,000 people and it was an Instagram focus group and I just let it fall to the wayside. I stopped engaging and the post just fiddled down and then when I was going into like a promotional period, I'm like, I'm going to go back into that group. But like that was the biggest disservice I could have done because that's like showing up in a group with the intention of getting something from it. It was my bad. I let that group fizzle away and the lesson that I learned by trying to go back and revive the group is that people wouldn't engage and if people do engage in your group, they weighed down. The group groups are based on an algorithm as well. If people are active in a group, there's a higher likelihood of them seeing that group when they go into their feet and a higher likelihood of getting them popup notifications for what's going on in the group. I let the group get so saggy and heavy that when I went back into it, nobody was engaging and that indicates the algorithm that my group was whack and I let it get whack . So it's totally up to you if you're like, you know what, I know a group is where it's at. I am going to start a new group and my commitment is going, they're going to be different. And if you go into your old group and say, I'm starting a new group, that's fine, but if you're going to revive a group and you're like, no, I believe that , that that I can provide this group again. Great. What I want you to do is go live, ask engaging questions, give people a reason to start liking and commenting back so that your group gets then rewarded, elevated, noticed within the algorithm. Um, Eric has said, so when he platforms as a newbie, which is the most relevant, I can eventually expand, but too many fields right now, a little bit overwhelming Erica . Girl, I know I never recommend, recommend trying to get to too many platforms at once. The question remains Erica . Number one, what are you selling? Number two, who are you selling to? And number three, what platform are they on? Like if you are going to be selling to a 27 year old female, your platform of chores should be Instagram. If you're selling to a 45, 50 year old woman, your platform should be Facebook or LinkedIn. If you're selling to like , um, like a mommy blogger who's at home like homeschooling her kids, you should really be focusing on Pinterest, creating helpful resources for her so that when she pins it, her pinning juice on Pinterest expands over to your network as well. There isn't a right or wrong at all. Just think about where does your dream customer, where does the person who is most likely to buy from your business, where do they spend the most time on social media? That's where you start. Um, okay. Lisa said, is it worth it to buy a nice camera to take pictures for my Instagram page? Lisa, you know, if you would ask me this question two and a half years ago, my answer might be different. I am here to tell you that the iPhone has made such and even the Android, my sister in law has an Android. I put the proponent , I was like, what is this? What is an Android? But it has a phenomenal camera as well. The iPhone is just so great that like, because we've been in quarantine, if I had been taking a lot of my Instagram photos on my phone, and here's the irony, ever since we went into quarantine, the photos that I take with my real legit camera, my DSLR perform worse than the photos I take with my iPhone. I think on a psychological level, either subconsciously or consciously, people want to see stuff like that feels real. Like nobody's trying to live that glamorous yacht life when you ain't know . Ain't nobody on no yacht. You know what I mean ? Ain't nobody on your private jet flying around right now , like everybody's home. And so at this point in time, do I feel like it's a necessity? No. Do I think it's helpful depending, but if you know how to work an iPhone and y'all , there's like literally a million hours of iPhone tutorials on YouTube. I would rock that out like legit. Like legit. I'm okay. Tanya, should you post multiple times a day when you first start a Facebook group? It depends on the size of the group. Like if you have like 10 people in your group and you're posting like 10 times a day, probably not good . You will soon understand the cadence of how often you should be posting in your group. It's different for different groups. Some groups have like 17 or 27 posts a day and there's a lot of activity and some groups have very focused one or two posts per day. Now, in the month of April we decided for our Facebook group and social curator, there's like almost 8,000 people in that group and people were posting and it became overwhelming. And this is us just learning like this is legitimately me being a hundred percent real with you. And as a CEO and founder, I have to listen to the audience. So what we decided to do was for the month of April, the posts were only going to come from myself or our Facebook team. So I do group coaching and I teach classes and we bring in guest master class and like those are all coming from me just to that in this month because so many people have so many different things. I'm like, yo, what'd you come into this group? You're gonna have very focused action. We have two to three posts a day in that group and that's it. But before when it was open, you were having like a lot. So again, not a right or wrong, you'll be able to figure that out once you actually start doing my advice, stop thinking and start doing. Because when you do, you're able to test that. Kristin asked, Hey girl, Hey , I have an idea for a new project. I start with one idea and it continues to change and they start developing it . How do you know when to just run with it? I feel like it's holding me back from actually making forward progress and I confused myself more than anything. Okay, Kristen , I love this. I love this. I love this. So let's get a real life example with what is going on. Now. Here's the thing. People would say, Jasmine always talk about your business. Listen, if I don't talk about my business, ain't nobody else going to talk about my business and I am coming live completely unafraid to talk about my dreams. Even though there's a part of me that would be a little bit embarrassed if they didn't come to fruition. So Kristin , I know how you feel. The vision that I have for social curator is seriously that trash crazy. Like what I see of social curator in 2023 I said this at the beginning on January, 2020 I said my big vision is to empower a hundred thousand business owners to be making,
Speaker 2Hmm ,
Speaker 1I'm sorry, I messed it up. I messed that up. My vision for 2023 was to have 10,000 business owners make more than six figures. That's crazy. Like that's crazy. Like my vision for social curator is 10,000 people making more than six figures. But you want to know what, that's a big vision that could get in the way of me taking action today. So now that Christian , you know your vision, what do you need to do today? But what do I need to do to serve social security very well? I used to make sure that they have captions that empower them to talk about their business during cobot . So we created a whole new bonus just for them because like we need to empower you. I can't get to my big vision if I can't do the basic stuff. So Kristen , you don't even know if your big vision is going to even work. So right now, start with three small things. I know what you want to do in the future. You want to do some big and crazy wild , amazing. Okay, awesome. But what can you do in the next one to three months? Pick three things, small things, start a mission statement, start a blog, get a website post consistently, like make a video. Like what ? What is it? Three projects in the next three months. And if you're like, Jasmine, I have a full time job and I have kids, great. Pick one project in the next months. All I need you to do is take a bunch of little actions to get to your big dream. Um, uh , Remy said, this sounds to me like a lot of work. Log, Insta , Pinterest, Facebook group. Oh my God, how do we manage this all and find a client and shoot, hire somebody to do it. Oh, okay. Just because you can have a Facebook group, Instagram, Facebook page, Pinterest blog videos doesn't mean you should. Your actions should map your aspirations. If you don't have aspirations of hundreds of thousands of followers, if you don't have aspirations of a five 10 1520 $5 million business, it's all good. You need to choose what is right for your business at that time. Do not let anybody's other ambitions impede your trajectory for your version of success. Period. That's my answer. From a photographer standpoint, I have always been the biggest proponent of outsourcing. I outsourced everything in my business that was not getting me new clients because once I booked a photography client, they were done. How then do I grow my business? I have two ways. I can either sell more to my current client, which was really hard cause I was already a luxury photographer and they were spending like 15 to $20,000 and they would have albums included and things of that nature. It was like, what else am I going to sell them or get a new client? So what were some of the things that I outsourced in my business album design, shipping of the album , uh , processing like to have like a CRM, a customer, like a client management system. Like I was paying to have that automated. I was paying to have somebody edit my photos with my presets in Lightroom. But why did I need to click every single photo in Lightroom? I would give them the presets and I'll pay them per hour and they would be uploading to the gallery, they would be organizing. Then I would have my email templates, like I outsourced everything that didn't get me future clients. So anything that got me future clients, anything that grew my business was when I was in control of. So thank you for tuning in this week. Do another episode. Issue CA like live.
