Speaker 2okay. Pull up to the speaker a bit more. That's it. Maybe you could raise the volume because I'm about to show something. I keep behind closed doors. This was a private conversation, but I really think you need to hear a small piece of it. But first, welcome to the Jasmine star show. I'm your host, a photographer and business strategist from Newport beach, California. Today. You're about to listen in on a fiery pep-talk . I gave to members of social curator just last month. I launched this monthly membership less than three years ago. And if you don't know the community, it's all provides business owners with group coaching with me, a social media resources and solutions and community accountability. So they can build their businesses and market it online. Now to provide a little context, enrollment for social curator is closed right now, and it opens just a couple times a year. Now, after people enroll while our new members are checking out their resources and making connections with thousands of business owners in the community, we host what is called social curator kickoff week to welcome new members. So we have five days of live classes. Now you're wondering Jasmine , what are you talking about? Get to the point, but we'll wait. I have to explain the context so that you understand the content in a different way. So stick with me. Okay. So during these five days of live classes, our members receive actionable tips to transform their Instagram bio. They get to ask their biggest business questions in live Q and A's. We have a three-part caption formula that turns followers into customers. So you're going to see that we're getting a lot of actionable, tangible things. But what you're about to hear today is a clip from day five of social curator kickoff week, where I explained the three big questions. You should ask yourself today to guarantee your success by the end of the year. Now, whether you're a member of social curator or a dedicated podcast listener, who's looking to get inspired. I have a feeling you're really going to like this conversation because I like to call it a loving kick in the pants. This was one of our members at favorite classes, and I just felt selfish. I couldn't keep it just for members and they really couldn't wait for you to get a glimpse inside of what we do in the community. So without further ado here, it is a recording from my live class during day five of social curator kickoff week.
Speaker 3So friends as take off weekends, I want to get in and have a real conversation because what we just went through, we're feeling it. It's fun. We're taking actions every day, accountability. And then all of a sudden, it let's say tomorrow, the next day or the next day, you all of a sudden say, huh? I'm not feeling as excited as I was. I'm not feeling like I'm , I'm on fire on top of a mountain top. Like, I don't feel like Mount Vesuvius right now. And when you start to question whether or not you have it in you to continue working questions, like do I belong? Is social curator really? For me, you know, Jasmine, I see so many people taking so many action. I just feel really behind. You might even ask yourself, can I make this work for me? Can I make the pictures work for me? Can I make the captions? Like, does this really work for me? And the thing I want to caution you is doubt is a decision. Faith is a decision. Will you choose doubt? I don't know if I can do this, or will you choose faith? I'm going to work like, heck that it does, because what I don't want to happen is this is y'all. I'm just going to be real. This is business owner to business owner. I'm going to sit across from you. Like we're having a cup of coffee. And what I'm going to tell you is I've been in the game two and a half years of social curator. And I'm going to tell you that the reason why people stopped social curator isn't because I don't know how to use it. Isn't because the pictures don't work for me. It's fear. It's fear dressed up in. I don't have enough time. It's fear dressed up in . I don't know if I can make this work. It's fear. I'm still behind. So I'm going to stop working. I don't want fear stopping you from what you've been called to do, because you will hear it from me first. When I tell you that in this moment you are right where you need to be. You don't need to be further along and you don't need to look at what's behind you. My daddy always said, I might not like where I am today, but I'm so thankful. I'm farther than what I wear as yesterday, because we can look at today and say, you know what? I don't have enough followers. I'm not making enough money. My business. Isn't where it's supposed to be. But if you were to go back to the you of 2018, go back to you of 2018, heck go back to the you of 2010. Go back to the you a decade ago. Think hard to where you were in 2010. And would you be proud of the person you became in 2020? Because if I put your thoughts on a loudspeaker , would you be embarrassed or would you have cried ? If I put your thoughts on a loud speaker , what would I hear? And in this moment, the only thing I want you to thinking is I am right where I am supposed to be. Because when you say that you then have the deep gratitude and the grounding of understanding that yes, you are building a business on your own. It is your business. It's not mine. You are building a business on your own, and I'm a building a business on my own, but we can do it together. And that's what I want today to be about. Because if you'll make the commitment to do this together, and you say, Jasmine, I'm going to build my business on my own and I'm going to do with other people. Great. Let's break down the three promises. I don't want you breaking to yourself. You owe it to yourself. Three promises. Number one, just start where you are. Start messy, start scrappy, start ugly, start doing it wrong. Guess what? There's no such thing as right? And there's no such thing as wrong. Start where you are. I said it before I sent it on day one, I'm going to say it on day five. It is easier to fix something than it is to start. So if you make the decision to start right now and be scared, worried, and feeling like you're doing it wrong, great. It's easier to fix that than it is to start. So start where you are. Number two. I want you to give yourself grace. Remember what you tell yourself. Your beliefs are just a thought that you think over and over and over again. If you, if any of you are a parent or if any of you are a sibling to somebody younger, or if you look at somebody, you love your best friend, your mom, your partner, and this person is starting something brand new haver , never done it before. And you see them beating themselves up. You would tell that person, Hey, you're doing such a great job. Like you've just started this. I remember JD , uh, four years ago, he decided he was going to do a triathlon. Uh , a triathlon is you swim two miles and you run 12 miles and you bike 25 miles. And there were days when he would come back and he would just be frustrated. He's like, I just couldn't do it. And I would sit there and I would say, Oh my gosh, but you ran eight miles today. Like that's amazing. And one day he looks across from me and he said, I really wish that you could speak to yourself the way that you're speaking to me. Cause all you do is encourage me. And you beat yourself up four years ago. When I wasn't getting all teary eyed, four years ago, I had a breakthrough. I saw my husband in Santa Barbara, California, and he bikes . And he ran and he swam and I am telling you I had my camera and I was just crying, crying, crying. Cause I said, man, I'm so proud of him. I'm so proud of the work that he did to get. And I thought to myself, Jasmine, can you be proud of yourself in the same way? So friends, I know that I have been called to teach what I had to learn. So please know that these promises are our homespun on the inside out. And number three, let's have some fun. Let's have some fun. Can you enjoy the journey? There is a scene at the end of the office. When Andy, I don't know if you guys are fans of the office of your fancy office, like holler back. Everybody loves Michael Scott. Okay. At the end of the final season of the final episode of the office, Andy is sitting in a chair, very similar to how I am right now. And he says, I wish we knew we were living in the good old days. Y'all that hidden ? I don't want us to look back to right now, this struggle, this fight, this hustle and say, I wish I knew I was living in the good old days. Y'all let's have fun right where we are. Can I get an amen? So promise number one, start where you are, make it messy, do it wrong. Do it your way and fix it because we have to let go of this idea of comparison. I think it's very easy to come into social curator. Some people knew who I was coming into social security. Some people are like, I don't know who you are, but I really liked the service. So let me just try it out. And then you come in and then you just think that I came out of the womb. I came out, I was born. I was like, yo, thanks, mom. Here's social curator. And I got a team of 10 people behind the scenes working on it. No, we started social curator, scrappy broken. We didn't know which way was up. I'm just going to tell you that. When we launched social curator in 2017, it was the most ghetto fabulous thing you've ever seen. And you want to know what I kept on working at it. And I'm so proud of where it is today. And you want to know another thing in two and a half years, I'm going to look back in 2022. I'm going to look back at the social curator of 2020 and be like, yo, that was real basic. I have to let go of comparison. I have to let go of me comparing myself to others. But in this group, I don't want people looking at me or anybody on the team to say I can't do it because it doesn't look like that. Girl, girlfriend, boyfriend, it took us years to get here, start moving. Because what we see are the results. What you see is the action plan. What you see is these bonuses. What you see is this kickoff week, but what you don't see our behind the scenes, just this very week, having phone calls with people who are like just stressed out. And I'm like, I know, I know. In fact, before we had this class, there was a group of us on a call. And we said, the minute this class is over, nobody talked to me, I'm done. I'm out, peace out. I'll see you on Monday. But what you guys see is awesome behind the scenes, we are hustling to serve you. Well, just like you are hustling to serve your customers, members and clients. Well, because what I don't see about you is I see your success, but I don't see your sacrifice. And you see social curator success, but you don't see the cost at which we pay every single day. Somebody once said the dream is free, but you got to pay rent every day. Yes. Friends, we're paying rent. So how about here? We make the promise to connect over, comparing ourselves just because somebody did something you have yet to do does not mean that they're taking a piece of your pie. Your pie is there. It is a never ending pie . Just because somebody got a slice doesn't mean that you get less of a slice. The internet is big. Go out and take a bite. Y'all so where do you begin? You use what you have right now. I'm using zoom. I am using zoom and zoom is free. And if you want to go high budget, zoom is 1499 a month. What am I using right now? Social security photos. You got them. What am I using now? Canvas presentation, canvas free. Use what you have and make it work. And I am not here to say it will be easy, but it will be worth it.
Speaker 4Okay .
Speaker 3It will not be easy, but it will be worth it. Number two promise to give yourself grace again and again, what happens is I don't want you to have a bad day or I don't want you on day five and kickoff. We could be like, this is my first class. I miss all the other ones. I'm behind I'm homeschooling. I want to take a drink at eight o'clock in the morning. Like yo, yo, yo, don't let a bad day or a bad week, ruin a month or ruined a year. I've seen that happen. Don't cry for what happened yesterday. Work for what you want tomorrow, because can you just say, you know what? I am doing the best I can with what I have. I ask the team again. And again, if we did not get to where we wanted to go, can we say we did the best with what we had and I am doing the best I can because if you are doing the best you can, how dare you expect anything else? Are you doing your best? If the answer is yes, you're right where you're supposed to be. Go on and do the dang thing. It is totally okay. If things didn't go as planned, it is totally okay. If you didn't post for a week, it's totally okay to come up with a new plan when you're like, you know what? Life threw me a curve ball. Dang it. Are you going to stick your heels in the mud and say I can't on no it's okay. Pick a new game plan and go. Don't wait.
Speaker 4Okay .
Speaker 3Because success comes from perseverance. What is perseverance? I don't know the exact definition, but let me tell you the definition from the hood. The hood definition of perseverance is getting knocked down and getting back up, getting knocked down and getting back up as business owners. We are in the boxing ring of life. Getting that down and getting back up the third promise. I want you to make yourself to yourself as a curator is to have fun. Have fun as adults. When is the last time you had good old fashioned fun. I want you to celebrate the small wins. I want you to Pat yourself on the back for trying something new. I want you to enjoy unexpected results that came from a connection or collaboration or networking with a curator. I want you to do a happy dance for your first direct message. I want you to toast to your first sale on social media. And if you're like Jasmine, I don't drink and toast with some sparkling water and put some lime in it. Just do a little clique, do something to say, dang, the work is working. I want you to congratulate yourself on booking your dream. Client have fun with the small wins along the way. Now I know you're like Jasmine. I don't know if I can have fun in the middle of a life changing and world changing event. And I want to say to the many people on the front lines, thank you. I want to say to the first responders and the essential workers. Thank you. I want to say to the parents who are homeschooling children. Thank you. But let me also make something very clear.
Speaker 4Yeah .
Speaker 3COVID-19 eight Jack. If you want to blame COVID-19 for ruining your business. I have another thing coming.
Speaker 4Yeah ,
Speaker 3it could be COVID-19 right now, but in two months it's going to be something else. It might not be a worldwide pandemic. You might lose a family member. You might have an employee who steals from you. You might have your entire website go down and you lose everything on it. You might have somebody pack your credit card and ruin your credit. COVID-19 is one thing that could knock you down. But what is the whole definition of perseverance getting knocked down and getting back up? So how many of you right now, show of hands right now? A show of hands . Give me a like, give me an emoji. How many of you are going to stand up? Regardless of what COVID-19 goes your way. I want to see you. And I know it feels stupid, cause you're on your phone. You're like, I'm not going to put an emoji. Yes you are. Because if you can't put an emoji now you're not going to show up for your business. Take an action. Any action I'm training you to take action. So how many of you are going to stand up after getting knocked down from COVID-19? The real question becomes, how many of you are going to stand up next month? When you get knocked down? How many do you want to stand up tomorrow? If you get knocked down, we made the crazy decision as business owners to say, this is the thing I want to do. Really, really business owners are crazy folk, but we persevere my advice and encouragement to you is to be bigger than your excuses, because let me tell you something. Everybody has excuses, you know, who have excuses. You know that friend who just bought, bought box, why they can't lose weight? Why they're in debt? Why their dad ruined them? Why their children don't respect them. Listen, everybody has excuses. Will you, will you make an excuse or will you find a reason for your success? Will you make an excuse as to why you won't get what you want? Or you find a reason come hell or high water? What you're about to do? That's the real question right about now. Now if you want to be like, okay, I'm ready. I'm not going to make excuses. I'm going to find reasons that I want you to take 30 seconds to define your success. Because what happens on social media specifically on social media is that we look at people with fancy cars in big houses, on lovely vacations. Sometimes they even have a private jet. Sometimes they have a personal chef. Sometimes they have a full time nanny. And we look at that and we say that success. But my question to you is, is it really? I want to live my life on my terms. I wanted to love God. I want to love my family. I want to love my team. And I want to love the community in the process of me getting a private jet or living in a fancy house takes time away from spending time with my family takes time away from spending time with my team. I'm not a success. I'm just rich. If your version of success is to make dinner for your family every single day at 6:00 PM and sit around a table. If your version of success is retiring your partner to come on and work with you full time. If your definition of success is to fully pay for one family vacation every year to Disney world. And that is your version of success. Write it down because if you don't know what your success is, you're going to look around and compare yourself and say, I'm not enough. I'm not doing enough. But if you wrote down the minute, I can pay to take my family to Disney world and buy the chiro and buy the nachos and wait in line for the Matterhorn . And I get a pay for all of it. I'm a success. The minute you get there, look around and you say, dang it. I did it. I am a success. No matter what other people say, I'm my version of success because I know it's easy to focus on the numbers. It's easy to say, Jasmine, I don't have enough followers, Jasmine, I don't have enough newsletter, subscribers, Jasmine . I don't have enough money in my bank. It's easy to look at that. But if you're always focusing on what you don't have, you will never have enough. If all you're focusing on is lack, lack of money, lack of followers, lack of authority, lack of customers. You're only going to perpetuate that. Why? Because a thought is a belief. I don't have enough customers. I won't have enough customers. I don't have enough customers. I won't have a GFE customers . Guess what? It's a self fulfilling prophecy. If you focus on man, I am so thankful. Like did I want to get 20 new clients to coach my coaching problem program? And I only got three. If you focus on the 17, you didn't have, you will never be able to serve the three. You do have look at what you have right now and say, this is enough because these three people are going to take me to where I want to go. If I serve them. Right? So friends, I want you to focus on what you want, focus on what you want. Be thankful for what you have, focus on what you want. Be thankful for what you have. So we're going to ask ourselves three big questions to ultimately get us to where we want to go. Big question. Number one. How will you define your success in one year? How better yet better yet? Let's just make this even smaller. How are you going to define success on December 30, first, 2020? What do you want to look back at the year and say, dang, I did it. I did it this year is successful because I did the thing I wanted to do. What is that? Can you define that big question? Number two is what do you have to do to secure your success? Like if you say I'm going to be a success because of X, great. What do you have to do to get X? Gotta be real. Number three, big question. Number three is who do you have to become? What changes do you have to make in your head? And what changes do you have to make in your heart to become the business owner that you want to be? Be real. Be real. You got to invest in yourself. You got to stop telling yourself negative stories. Maybe you say it's time for me to invest in a website. I don't know, but you have to become a different person to get different results because the secret to success, I don't know if I want to share this secret. Cause I kept it a secret for a really long time. The secret to success is there is no secret. There's no secret to success. Success goes to number one, the people who have defined what it means to be successful on their terms. And then they make it happen. If you say being a success is working a full time job so that you can have health insurance and a 401k. And then you have the photography side hustle and you still have the time to be your son or your daughter's soccer coach. That's your version of success now? You know what? Make it freaking happy . So how then do you secure your success? It's not enough for me to say, what's your version. Oh, I love it. Now I'm going to say, now we're getting real. How do you secure the success that you've defined? Because it's not about having all of the experience. It's not about having all the knowledge, all of the tools, all of the time, all of the money, the looks, the followers, the award that is not anything that will secure your success. What will secure your success? Number one, it's having the definition of success. And then number two, mapping your actions to your assets patients . Okay ? Because it's not enough for you to say, I want to make a hundred thousand dollars this year. And I asked you how much have you made so far, 13,000. Great. If you want to make another 97,000, $87,000 in your business this year, guess what chances are. You're gonna have to do something big. Chances are going to stop watching Netflix. Chances are, you're gonna probably have to hire a babysitter two nights a week for two hours. So you can get your work done, right? Map your aspirations by your actions to get success. You have to be very clear. What do I want by December 31st, 2020? I mean, y'all put in your head right now. What do you want? I think right now something's coming up for you. What is it? So if something's coming up for you, I'm going to walk you through a champagne moment framework. So do you guys see what I'm doing here? I'm saying welcome. Welcome to the fold of what it means to be a curator. We have fun and we dream big and we get the work. But today I am asking you, what do you want to do? How will you define your success? December 31st, 2020.
Speaker 2Okay. So tell me right about now, who else is dedicated to not backing down and not backing away from being inspired to guarantee success in 2020. Now tell me, after listening to that, are you just ready to show up?
