New Colorado Amendment Paves the Way for Casino Expansion

The voter approval of Amendment 77 in last November’s general election paves the way for casino changes. Gambling venues in the towns of Black Hawk, Central City and Cripple Creek will all benefit. Targeting May 1, casinos will be able to offer new games such as Baccarat, Keno and Pai Gow Poker. The current $100 betting limit will also be lifted from all real money games. The last casino expansion took place in 2008. At that time, the betting limit was $5. New games added were Roulette and Craps. The state is finalizing its new rules and regulations governing the new changes.

Georgia Gambling Expansion Efforts Remain in Doubt for 2021

Proponents of legal casino gambling, horse racing and sports betting continue their fight in Georgia. It is a new year with a clean slate. However, this fight goes back more than six years. Opposition in the form of conservative groups and religious organizations remains strong. Disagreements over the use of added gambling tax revenue have slowed the cause. The only legal form of real money gambling in the state is the Georgia Lottery. This was first instituted in 1992. Any state legislation favoring expansion would have to be approved through a constitutional amendment. This would require a favorable outcome from a voter referendum.
