Sharon Young is senior strategist for marine issues with the Humane Society of the United States. She is appointed to serve on a number of federal task forces addressing marine mammal conservation including 5 federal task forces dealing with fisheries and marine mammals.  She served on both the Bonneville and Willamette Falls task forces addressing sea lion predation on fish runs in the Columbia River and its tributaries. Sharon has taught or guest-lectured at several universities regarding marine mammal conservation and has co-authored publications on whale conservation. In this interview, she talks about the plan to kill sea lions in order to save salmon populations for orcas who are dependent on them for food.
