124 – The Bible is full of stories explaining that God is not a respecter of persons
When I was in college I had a professor who had a couple of favorites in class. I was definitely not one of them. In fact, it seemed she didn't really like me at all.
I asked a friend to pray with me about the situation. My friend said I needed to start with the fact that God loved the professor just as much as He loved me.
That's not what I wanted to hear, but it's what I needed to hear.
The more I prayed this way, the more the professor began to show me more respect.
It was an important lesson for me and started me on the journey of discovering that God loves everyone equally and does not show partiality. God is not a respecter of persons.
There are many verses in the Bible, both in the Old and New Testaments, that bring this out, as well as explaining that we should not show partiality in our judgements either.
There is no iniquity with the LORD our God, nor respect of persons. 2 Chronicles 19:7
For God does not show favoritism. Romans 2:11
One of the best stories to bring this out is found in Acts, chapters 10 and 11. It's about a Roman Centurion, Cornelius who hears an angel tell him to send for Peter.
God prepares Peter's heart to share the gospel of Christ with Cornelius, even though he is a Gentile.
Cornelius, his friends and family all accept Christ and receive the Holy Spirit, to the astonishment of the Jews who have come with Peter.

This is a pivotal event in the history of the early Christian church. Peter, first, then the whole church, had a mindset shift from thinking their faith was for a select few to realizing the gospel of Christ was for the whole world.
