118 – Is it possible for someone to put a curse on you?

This is a pretty heavy duty topic.

I have met people who believe they have been cursed by someone. And there are people in the world who think they can put a curse on someone.

Unfortunately, there are even some Christians who think they can curse their enemies, and pray that they fail at what they're doing or even die.

Have you ever heard of anything further from what Jesus wants us to do?

Jesus said we should love our enemies and pray for them. He said we should bless those who curse us, not curse them back.

Just because someone has done you harm or you strongly disagree with someone does not mean you can curse them.

So, can someone put a curse on you?

Well, they may think they can. But as a friend of mine said, "A curse can only go as far as the nose of the person uttering the curse."

Proverbs 2:2 says, "Like a fluttering sparrow or a darting swallow,  an undeserved curse will not land on its intended victim."

This is a promise from God that a curse cannot harm us.

Psalm 91 also assures us that God will protect us from this sort of thing.

• A man who cursed me with blindness because I would not agree with a couple of documents he composed about how he was going to save the world

• (By the way, neither of those curses came about)
• How Jesus walked unharmed through a crowd that wanted to throw him over the cliff
• When someone curses you, there's really something deeper going on
• Ways to pray when someone tries to curse you

Ephesians, chapter 6, tells us to put on the whole armor of God. 

When you trust in God, and put on this spiritual armor, you are safe in God’s care. 

And no one can put a curse on you.
