Pastor Rob continues our series: The Jesus Way: A Journey Through the Sermon on the Mount, preaching on Matthew 6:1-18. Jesus teaches that giving, praying, and fasting should be done humbly and in secret, seeking God’s approval rather than human recognition. Jesus emphasizes that true devotion comes from the heart. As we give, pray, and fast, we should follow Jesus’ example, ensuring that our heart posture is aligned with Him in humility and faith.
Reflection Questions:
- Have you ever done the right thing with the wrong motives?
- This passage talks about 3 things: giving, praying and fasting. Which is easiest for you? Hardest for you?

- Is there a current opportunity where you can be more generous with your time, talent and treasures.

- What is one thing that has deepened or grown your prayer life?
- What’s the heart and motivation behind your prayers?
Matthew 6:16- 18
- What has been your experience with fasting? Is there anything you want to fast from during the season of Lent?
Application: Pick a day this week to fast from a meal and use that time to draw closer to Jesus.

* Repent from doing things “for” God instead of spending time “with” God.
* Pray for one another to have humble hearts in the practices of giving, fasting and praying.
* Spend time practicing 5 minutes of Listening Prayer
