On this episode of Podward State, our hosts Samuel Brungo and Matthew Paolizzi are joined by Onward State Men's Hockey beat writer Acacia Aster Broder and former Onward State managing editor and current Carolina Hurricanes beat writer for The Athletic Sara Civian.
Sara starts the show talking about how she chose Penn State, how she became a writer, specifically covering hockey. She chats about the rewards that her job brings to her and some of the differences between covering college hockey opposed to professional hockey.
Being in a predominately male industry, Civian talks about what it is like to be a woman in sports media and some of the challenges that it brings. She discusses how she deals with adversity and gives advice to young women interested in a similar path.
Finally, Sara recalls some of her favorite memories, both at Penn State and in sports media in general, including some of her favorite interactions.
